Your standard American fare. Burgers, soups, salads, etc. It is like a diner without the extensive menu. The service was pretty good.

We met up with a few friends for breakfast on a Saturday morning and I was surprised it wasn't too busy yet. If you have a group of more than four people, you'll probably need to split up into two booths, as there is only one large booth that seats six people. Our server was so awesome and on top of refills, taking our orders, and keeping everyone's checks straight. I got the Super Plus Breakfast, with three eggs, ham, bacon, and sausage, potatoes, and toast. It was a lot of food but I was really hungry! Nate got the breakfast burrito. I loved my big breakfast plate. The eggs were perfectly cooked over medium, and the sausage links were really tasty. The ham and bacon were okay and the potatoes needed a bit of hot sauce and ketchup, but it was a classic diner breakfast done pretty well. And the prices are great! I'll be back.

I don't know how old is place is or how long it has been in business ?? but this is theeeee hole in the wall as we like to say it!! convenient located in Grand Rapids in a small local neighborhood absolutely awesome fast service ,very attentive service ,waitresses were fun, shouting back-and-forth, shouting out orders talking to all of the patrons and customers.. very small inside and very clean !! but yes, very old!! a hole in the WalshIsh 5 star!! but the best part is hands-down, the food !!!!! my counterpart had a burger and said it was the best burger he's ever had. I had breakfast eggs, hashbrowns, and toast, and it was absolutely fantastic. The eggs were fluffy and plenty. The hashbrowns were fresh crispy, and vibrant, and the toast which was the sourdough was the heaviest sourdough. I think I've ever had with so much flavor!!! So to be that simple and to be that delicious is what we want. The pricing is outstanding and when I say outstanding absolutely fantastic. Every restaurant should take notice and you'll be having lines out the door like this place does!! The staff and atmosphere are very homey and the food is always well priced and great portions. I tend to overorder whenever I come here but the leftovers still reheat nicely. I'm a big fan of getting the sweet pancakes or sweet griddle options with potatoes or breakfast meat. Everything comes out hot, fresh, and in good time. I think you can order pickup which is actually really cool and I may have to start doing before super long days at work. They have a parking lot right near the restaurant which is very convenient. Overall, I really love Shelley's and think it's a quintessential american diner experience.

We decided to share the fish and chips and meatloaf. I was pleasantly surprised at how good both were! The fish and chips were very light, didn't feel too heavy for the fried food and the amount was perfect. This is a nitpicky thing, but I would have rather had it on a plate than a bowl so the fish isn't sitting directly on the fries - even though I know that's the vibe. The meatloaf was also really good - I loved the crisp edges on the meatloaf as it gave it a lovely texture and the gravy flavor was amazing. We were both pleasantly surprised at how good the food was and will definitely be back! We did not have a reservation, and it does look like you can get one online, but we were seated promptly. The servers did look a little overwhelmed though, it seemed as though they were only 2 people covering the whole restaurant, including making the drinks! So patience is your friend - but honestly, they did a great job of keeping up and we weren't in much of a rush. They just looked a little frantic, which caused the vibe to be a little weird. However, for our date night, we weren't bothered and still enjoyed our meal! Parking around is street and metered, but hopefully you can find something as there are a few other restaurants and bars nearby. We didn't have any issues though, so I think it's just being patient and possibly walking a little bit. I will definitely be back, especially for dinner!

Reduced by a star because their take out containers really weren't ideal/good. We kept things upright but one of the items spilled out and onto another container and some of the sauces didn't have lids put on them (but some did), so they were dumped out on the bottom of the container. Regardless though, everything was very delicious. We really enjoyed everything and felt like there was a good variety of items. Despite having a bit of an initial mess to deal with, we still would order out again!

I adore crab so ordering that was a no brainer. Their coffee is strong. It took a ton of cream to change the color... though it was delicious with free refills for $5. The omelette was heaven. All the flavors melded well and I appreciated the crisp acidic salad to cut the richness of the omelette. My only critique is wishing the crab salad topping was a bit more decadent. For $21 I was hoping for big lumps of crab rather than cool shredded mayo based salad. All in all, I love this place, I love the concept. It was quite busy and was thankful to snag a seat at the bar. The service was friendly and quick. Best hipster establishment I've patronized in a long time. Make a reservation if you have a group or pray there is a seat at the bar. My boyfriend and I stumbled in during happy hour and were happy to grab some cheap drinks, but the main event was the burger! We typically like sitting at the bar as well and chat with the bartender who was absolutely lovely! The dirty martini was okay but I will definitely order something else next time as the olives just didn't hit for me. It's a quaint and quiet spot - you can read that as intimate - since it's not loud or rowdy, so if you want a really sweet date spot, feel free to check this one out! Otherwise, you can just go and have a casual, delicious dinner. Parking is limited with the street parking and it being so close to Monroe Center but you shouldn't have a terrible time finding something, even if requires a parking ramp vs street parking. I'd just recommend a reservation if you are going on a weekend or don't want to wait/sit at the bar!
