We came to the Russian banya that we purchased from groupon. We came the weekend after Easter and while we were getting out of our car a lady put a sign in the window saying no groupon on holiday or holiday weekends. We thought this would be okay because easter was last weekend. However, when we went inside she proceeded to tell us that unfortunately it was RUSSIAN easter. Since I'm not Russian I had no idea. This review is only based on the restaurant portion of the Russian Banya. I came in for Brunch on Sunday but was bummed to hear that they stopped doing it but based off my experience it's probably due to everyone coming in for the Banya Steams and not so much for the food which is disappointing. The place is quite spacious and full of colorful decor and Russian dolls with a stage for a band where I assume they have performers. They also have a projection screen so I assume they do private events. The food is very fresh and was better than expected. I didn't expect myself to like it as much as I did so that was a very pleasant surprise. I ended up trying the Borsch w/ beef soup, the Olivia Salad, Cheburek (meat turnover), Blintzes (meat crepes), Siberian Pelmeni (dumplings) and ended with the honey cake. All in all it was good but my favorite by far is the honey cake and the the Blintzes. Both were great. The only thing I didn't like so much were the Siberian Pelmeni dumplings as I felt they lacked flavor and seasoning. Other than that I enjoyed myself and the service I received was great!!! I am so happy to see this place open again since covid. The new management has done a lot to update the interior, it is also cleaner than I have ever seen it. Love russian banya! The best sauna and food! Sauna is so good for health and to recover from a hard workout. Follow the 212 degrees sauna with cold plunge and it will make you feel amazing. In a nut shell: All 4 of us really liked it and they would more than likely rate it a 4 but I'm going with a 3. Soooooooooooooooooo heeeeeeere we go! I went here with 3 others form my work. The Russian guy has been telling us we need to go for quite some time so we FINALLY did. We was right it was good. It is supposedly a very authentic Russian food establishment (I say supposedly because you could have served me many things and told me it's Russian as I have ZERO Russian cuisine knowledge.) All we got from the Russian was "How hungry are you" and we trusted him to order for us. We had....................... Herring under fur coat - $7.99 Although I was not a fan the other three really enjoyed this. You could tell that if it was your thing, it was fresh and made with quality ingredients. Bread and Salsa - complimentary The bread was fresh and the salsa is HOT! I had no idea bread and salsa was a thing. Beet salad "Vinegret" - $6.99 I really enjoyed this. All ingredients on all items were very fresh. Although I expected more of a pickled taste, this was not what I would call a "vinegret" as we in the USA know it. We all liked this dish. Chebureki (deep fried meat dumpling) - $4.00 This was a bread pocket (for lack of better reference) that was filled with ground meat. I did not catch whether it was beef or Lamb. The Bread was made with lard I believe as it was blistered where it should be, it was delicious. The meat lacked seasoning to me and would make it so that I would not order this particular menu item again. Three of them enjoyed this more than I did. Borscht with meat - $7.99 I really enjoyed the soup but again lacking basic seasoning like salt and pepper. Cons: This place is mostly used for the bath house not the restraint. We arrived at 11:45 and left at 12:30 and there was another table coming as we left, that was all. There was no salt and pepper to be had at the table so it did impact my rating as a couple of the dishes were lacking basic salt and pepper. The décor was up for Christmas still, but I feel this is a very minimally decorated seating place. They were getting new years party ready so all tables were put together like "family style" not sure if that's normal or not. I may return but it would be mainly for the Borscht. read more

I was really excited to try Russian cuisine since there are very limited options in the Dallas area. I actually don't know any Russian restaurants until I stumbled onto this place on yelp a couple years back! Russian Banya is a unique combination of a restaurant and sauna. My friend and I came in the restaurant earlier to try some of their dishes. We ordered the stuffed eggplant, the Georgian Kinkali dumplings, and the stuffed cabbage. I honestly liked all the dishes that were served to us but out of the three the dumplings were the best. To start off, we were served bread with a Russian salsa and oh boi we were obsessed with the salsa. It was slightly spicy but only because it was full of raw garlic. A kind of temporary spice that quickly goes away. The stuffed eggplant was served cold and was stuffed with cilantro, walnuts, and cream cheese I think. My friend thought it was an odd combination. It wasn't her favorite taste-wise but I thought it was pretty good. I really like the crunchy texture of the walnuts inside the cooked soft eggplant. I know it might sound weird but it's nice to try something different. The stuffed cabbage was tomatoey and stuffed with a meat (beef I believe?) and rice filling served with a side of sour cream. It was topped with cooked fruits (date and apricot) as well giving a sweetness to the dish. The dumplings were delicious. Very juicy and full of flavor. It had a beef filling and served with sour cream as well. Definitely try it with sour cream. I've never heard of the combination before but the tartness of the cream went really well with the dumplings. The order came with only 4 dumplings unfortunately. I guess we expected more since we're so used to Asian/soup dumplings lol. Overall, it was a really filling meal and a great experience go along with it! You do pay at the front when you're done with your meal. And tip was included if you're paying with card. I'm not sure about cash but tip is around 18%-20%. A little odd to already charge for tip. Had a great experience here yesterday! The staff are very friendly and accommodating, the saunas are fantastic, and the food is delicious. My one and ONLY complaint is that the price is kind of steep, but it is good for entrance to the banya for the whole week. That being said, it'd be cool if they offered a discounted rate for those that only intend to go for one day. read more

So this place was amazing. Sauna, hot tub, cold pool and delicious food in one place? Yes please. My brother, myself, and several friends got together there today to celebrate his birthday. We spent 4 hours easily, and I wish we had longer. None of us left with anything bad to say about Russian Banya. Our stomachs were full and happy, and we were quite relaxed and rejuvenated from the sauna and hot tub. My brother and a few of our braver friends even took a dip in the ice cold pool, which I understand is exhilarating after the sauna. I wussed out on that part because I shriek at the thought even of a cold shower. When we took a long break to eat, we were in for a treat. (Dumbest rhyme but I assure you it was unintentional) we started off with some bread and a red, spicy sauce. Then we got dumpling samplers, and a sort of Georgian "pizza" if you will. There was a word for it that I forgot a few sauna trips ago. Imagine pizza with no red sauce, but in the crust there is a layer of egg/cheese filling? It was unique, but pretty good. We also got a soup, which was delicious. We really liked the dumplings though. The whole group kept talking about them. My personal favorites were the potato dumplings with caramelized onions on them. I did not know I needed them in my life, but now I don't think I will be able to live without them now. They also brought hot tea, with lemons and sugar lumps. This tea was to die for, and we drank a ton of it. Our service was excellent. I did not get our servers names, but they were all very helpful. It has been at least 8 yrs since I've been here. I found the food to be minimal. The pricing is too high for the quality and quantity of food. The lamb kabob had a mere 5 pieces placed along side steam vegetables which were nothing but from a frozen bag from Walmart for an astonishing $17. The khinkali was another disappointment. 24 Hour Fitness steam/sauna is better than this place: -The 2 saunas are very small, 2 people can fit comfortably -It's not the cleanest, the locker room showers weren't clean they had dirt/particles covering the drain -They give you dirty, used flip flops -They want you to exchange your license or car keys for a locker key -Very disappointed with my experience. Tried out this place after getting Groupon. Pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. We had the borscht with beef, samsa, pork kebab, and the napoleon for dessert. The seasoning on the dishes was just right and not salty. If you try this place, would highly recommend the napoleon. read more

First of all I would like to say that I like this restaurant. Yesterday I had dinner with my husband there. I ordered pelmeni, vinegret, blinchiki with beef, samsa, okroshka. Everything was great except okroshka, I have never ever heard that okroshka can be with kefir and kvas at the same time. I was born in Russia and I know that okroshka can be with kvas and sour cream on the side and most of the people prefer it that way. Moreover, it can be with kefir but never mixed!!!!whats a strange recipe?! My suggestion would be to ask the customer for his/her preferences. Interesting place, sort of weird. The night we dined we were the only people in the place so it felt sort of creepy as the dining area is huge. Our waiter was a nice young man with a heavy Russian accent. The food we ordered contained a lot of dough (the "Russian pizza" most definitely). We tried the eggplant stuffed with cheese and walnuts appetizer. Just OK. My wife had the Chicken Kiev which she enjoyed ( but more dough). I had the lamb chops which were very tasty. My wife does not eat red meat so she felt the menu was very limiting for non-red meat eaters. For dessert we had the layered honey cake which was the highlight of the meal. Had to come back and review one of my favorite places in the Dallas area after they have remodeled it. New management, new look, but same spa with incredible food. This is really a unique spot I highly recommend you take advantage of for some peace, relaxation, and delicious food at a very reasonable price. The spa format is the same, with 3 hot saunas including one Turkish steam room, a Finnish sauna, and a Russian sauna. You can bring a "venik" which is a bushel of eucalyptus leaves, and have either a friend or a staff member smack you on the back with it in the hot Russian sauna for a pore-opening, muscle-relaxing experience. It is a very unique and rejuvenating sensation that I recommend you experience at least once. The food is also the same (but this is a GOOD thing as it was incredible before). The food feels so honey and delicious. The menu is what you'd expect to see from a Russian restaurant. It has meats, poultry, fish, rice, pierogi, borscht, compote. You can't go wrong filling up your tummy with this deliciousness. The restaurant room has been renovated and looks very updated. I will say the room was so nice and the food so consistently delicious that I considered having my wedding here (though hubs and I decided to just get it over with in Vegas). Seriously, come here, plan to stay awhile for a few hours. Bring a book or good company you can enjoy in between going in the hot saunas and plunge pool, while enjoying some delicious Russian food. read more

My review is strictly on spa We got a groupon after seeing an episode from Andrew simmer and though hi why not try it. We got there and there were no one and the lady was friendly and she told us we have to pay tax at the end $1.20 or se per person. Well do you not think you should say that on the groupon?? Then we went to check the sauna omg are you kidding me, I have a better sauna at 24 hr fitness, by the way steam room is not working, but someone they still will charge you the tax. There are no uniform, shower has no toothbrush/ paste, pool... Incomparable with Korean spas and they charge the same are you kidding me I would say do not go, check out spa castle amazing. read more

This place is extremely dirty. Dirt is everywhere: changing room, sauna, common places. Tried to give it a chance, spent 30 mins there but almost through up from that foul smell. You will not be able to find that much dirt in Russia! We drove here for 3.5 hours to get to this disappointment. We requested refund, but the owner/manager said that she didn't care. This place is a thread to health. We asked how often they clean, she answered "every day" - maybe once pat day is not enough. Waist money, waist time, horrible service. That lady that called herself an owner accused us that we were looking for something free, and for that we should go to Russia. All we were looking for were good time for money. read more

I like this place. It gets two thumbs up in my opinion but you need to understand you are not going to the Four Seasons spa. My boyfriend and I had just been evacuated from Belize due to Hurricane Rina and by the time we got home we still had one day left on our "vacation" so we decided to have a "staycation" and find something different to do. This place definitely fit the bill. It's located at the corner of Marsh and Rosemeade in a shopping center, facing Marsh and has painted windows. We had to call since we passed it a couple of times so I wanted to share this with you. I have to admit before we went I called and spoke with the man that answered the phone I was a little worried. The man had a deep/stern Russian voice and I was concerned he wasn't going to be nice. In the end, he was one of our favorite parts about this place. His name is Tony and I think he's the owner. Since we went during the week and around 2:30 PM we were the only ones there. By the time we left there were a few other people. I've been to King Sauna in Dallas and tons of American spas. I've even been to Okeanos Russian Spa in Manhattan, NYC. I only say this to let you know that I have something to compare this place to. This place is much better than the one in Manhattan. It seems more "traditional" with the cold plunge pool (the one in Manhattan has a cold shower) and the wood-burning dry sauna...which makes it much hotter than the electric ones. I think Tony said it's the only wood-burning sauna in America. When you go, just think you're going to Russia, you are no longer in Dallas so get rid of any Dallas pretentiousness you might be carrying with you. I've never been to Russia but I would imagine it to be more rustic and earthy than Dallas. They will give you two towels (you can ask for more if yours gets too wet), a robe and flip flops. You might want to bring with you: your own flip flops (mine were a little big that they gave me), your own soap/shampoo/body lotion and a change of clothes. I don't remember if they had a blow dryer in case you ladies would like to get ready there before going back out into the world. When we arrived Tony showed us around and the different saunas (steam, American dry and Russian wood-fired-inferno!). We both thought we'd be there about 90 minutes...we were there 4 hours and would have stayed longer if we didn't have theatre tickets. We decided to start out in the steam room, then move to the American dry sauna and once you adjust to the Russian wood-fired inferno there's no going back to the other two...you'll be hooked. [Note: if it doesn't seem hot enough in the Russian sauna be sure to grab the ladle and pour water on the stones and fling it around the room to create more heat and steam.] Once you've "baked" enough in the Russian sauna, quickly get out and head straight for the 40-degree plunge pool, jump in and out twice...and Tony was right, you'll feel like you just ran 5 miles. Sit down so you don't fall down since your heart will (should) be pounding. I'd HIGHLY recommend the massage after your body has warmed up. I wish I could remember the man's name that gave the massage. I was actually laying there thinking that I'd never think about driving to Carrollton for a massage and here I was trying to plan my next visit. Another reviewer called the massage "rustic" and I'm still not sure what they meant about that. It was in a private room, had soothing music going and if you like a sports massage or deep tissue and have any aches or pains, this is your man to help take them all away. My boyfriend said he didn't know whether he should punch him or hug him - that was a good comment BTW. We decided to order dinner there. Everything was wonderful! It will come with a side sauce that looks like a hot sauce/relish. It has a slight spice and a lot of garlic! I still taste garlic so you've been warned. It was a lot of food for two people so we took some home. I'd recommend everything we had. I wish we had room for dessert because they looked yummy so I'll just have to go back! We had the following: Cold: Russian famous "Olivje" Salad Cold: Assortment of Pickled Veggies (green tomatoes, cabbage, pickles) Cold: Stuffed Eggplant Rolls Warm: Pirogues with Meat (beef) Warm: Blintzes with Chicken They recommend you drink tea or juices to help detox as opposed to just water. We had the green tea and pomegranate juice. It was a good call. Check it out and enjoy your "staycation" Almost forgot....it's BYOB! Embrace the Russian tradition and go to Central Market or Sprouts, pick up some Baltika 9 and order dried fish when you get here or bring some vodka and order pickles. This review is for the restaurant part of the Russian Banya only. I have not tried the spa areas, although I did see them on my visit. I'll visit the spa at another time and update. The restaurant is BYOB, so I hosted a wine dinner there on Saturday. There were 14 of us in the group, including a friend of mine who is from Russia. I had never experienced Russian cuisine, so the menu was kind of daunting. I was glad to have someone there who could easily explain the items for me! Sugar Bear and I decided to split several small plates. We ended up ordering WAY toooooooo much food, but the left overs have been great! We started with the Khachapuri, a kind of Russian pizza. The bread is much heavier than traditional pizza. It has ricotta on the inside and white cheddar on the top. If you top it with the 'Russian salsa' that they put on the table for the bread, it is a masterpiece! This dish is enough for two as an entree or 4-6 as an appetizer. We had two types of dumplings...potato (a cheese version is also offered) and meat. They were both served with sour cream. Both dumplings were wonderful, but ordering two was a bit much. They are freshly made at the restaurant. These were Sugar Bear's favorite, and he wants to try the cheese dumplings next round. The stuffed cabbage my my top pick of the evening. They were filled with minced beef and rice, seasoned to perfection. The cabbage was topped with prunes and apricot halves. A wonderful dish! We ended the evening with cherry blintzes. They were a bit sweet for me, but I'm not a fan of sweets. They brought a pastry sampler to the table, and lots of those looked amazing. There was no room for them on this round. I sampled the herring under a 'fur coat' from a friend's plate. When it hit the table, it looked like a layered cake from the shredded eggs and beats. The combination sounded bizarre, but it was really quite tasty. I will be getting it on a future visit. We were surprised when we got our bill. We had shared much of our food, had another meal of leftovers (for both of us) and the cost was only $54. There is no corking fee! Hooray! Why only 4 stars? The music progressively got louder as the evening went on. They become a club with lights and fog machines. After 10pm, the karaoke starts. I was not expecting this, and had I known we would have started the wine dinner an hour earlier to avoid the noise. I look forward to my future visits here! It is really good and interesting cuisine! I am absolutely in love with this place. I made my first visit to the Russian Banya just a few days ago, and I already have plans to go again this weekend. The people that run the Banya are very cool and welcoming to Americans (most of the people there were Russian). The guys explained everything to me and my boyfriend, and took good care of us. I can honestly say the massage there from Jakob was the best in my life...and the Banya...I am envious of Russians who have been attending these places all their lives. I am staying in a hotel this week that has a saunas. I went into them tonight and was so disappointed. Nothing compares once you have tried an authentic banya. Finally - the food. It's really interesting! They do offer vegetarian options if you do not eat meat (I am vegetarian and was able to find things). As Vera M. stated the service isn't American style...but this place is so relaxing...while you are waiting for your food you can just go back into the banya and then return to your table to find borscht, blintzes and other things waiting for you. The green tea is also wonderful and is a good companion to the health benefits you get from the banya. I suggest just looking at their Web site if you want details. They offer a lot of information there.
