BE WARNED! - Potential Deposit Scam…read more My fiance and I found Mira Vista as a prospective wedding venue, and instantly fell in love. The property is beautiful. We got in contact with the property and excitedly put a deposit down with the property manager, Melanie Greer. Unfortunately, that is where the excitement ends. You hear the term "Bridezilla" often. I'm not sure what the property manger equivalent is, but Melanie has been a terror to deal with. In the contract, it states that all vendors must be approved- which is understandable. Soon after signing the contract, we realized this meant any vendor that is not in Melanie's circle would go through hell. We were very clear with our budget before signing the contract(you don't get the vendor list until after you sign). After receiving the list we realized that if we were to only use her vendors, we'd be able to afford 1/4th of a wedding. For example- for a wedding coordinator on Melanie's vendor list, the starting price for a "day of" coordinator is around 4k+, and did not allow contact until 2 months before the wedding. We found a wonderful coordinator, with 20 years of experience, available at any time, for around 2k. Melanie tried every excuse in the book to avoid approving her. One of her excuses was that our coordinator's "Santa Barbara business license wouldn't work in Paso Robles". Our coordinator could(and maybe should) have given up out of pure frustration. Luckily for us, she is a true professional. Our coordinator assembled a call with members of both city councils of Santa Barbara and Paso Robles(and her lawyer) and educated Melanie of her false statement. Our coordinator was finally approved. We were already beyond frustrated by working with Melanie, but took the win. Everything should be smooth from here out, right?? WRONG My fiance and her bride's maids planned a trip from Orange County to Paso Robles to visit the venue. The first attempt, Melanie confirmed, and then canceled. No big deal, she gave us a different weekend that would work for her, and offered my fiance a free Boudior shoot on location to make up for the inconvenience. My fiance and her bridesmaids drove up from Orange County Saturday morning 1/28, and stayed at an airbnb for the night, since the tour was in the morning. Today(1/29), my fiance recieved a call from Melanie, 30 minutes before the tour, stating that there were guests staying on the property for the weekend and that she could not see the venue. She asked if they could come at 1pm. She stated that she had no idea that there were guests until this morning. When she arrived to meet my fiance and her bridesmaids prior to the tour, she slipped up and stated she knew the day prior(she lied, let my fiance and her friends drive up, knowing that there were guests) I spoke with Melanie on the phone, and she blamed it on the rental company, and said that she specifically told them not to book guests for the weekend. I asked if I could see the email chain where she told them this. To my surprise, she did send me an email, but this email chain shows that she was aware there was a possibility of guests(there is an email from the rental company stating they didn't want to block out the weekend). During the meet up between Melanie, my fiance, her bridesmaids and our wedding coordinator, Melanie acknowledged there was a huge mistake, and that she would understand if we wanted to walk away(with half our deposit.). She made no attempt to remedy the situation, which leads me to belive she is purposely making this difficult in order to get us to pull out, while pocketing the deposit money. This is a new venue. Possible deposit scam. Beware. Like I said, the property is beautiful, but I wouldn't wish Melanie on anyone. You only get one special day, and unfortunately, we will still need to work with Melanie for ours. As she refuses to provide the property owners contact information, I am hoping they see this so they know what is going on.

She has been very open with providing me with ideas of vendors and even helped us when we were struggling getting in touch with our caterers. We lost our deposit to Sarah, she delivered no work product, and ultimately ghosted us. Please continue reading for the details if you haven't already crossed her off your list. Our relationship started in early January 2022 and she was the first vendor we hired. Our venue required hiring a coordinator and provided a few recommendations. We thought that experience with the venue and relationships with local vendors would serve us well, so we hired her. First signs of trouble occurred in February. Upon us hiring her, we communicated a date that we'd travel to Paso Robles from our home in the Bay Area for late Feb, providing 6+ weeks lead time for her. It's an expensive trip for us plus we have full lives with work and family obligations, so we wanted to lock in the key vendors on this trip that required in person meetings. We reiterated the importance of this trip multiple times to Sarah. We held weekly conversations as well as emailed and texted with her, so we thought this was under control. About a week out prior to our travel weekend, we started asking about a schedule because there was none. These requests got more urgent as the week proceeded. The MORNING we were driving to Paso Robles, we asked her for details of our first vendor meeting and that's when we finally got a schedule. Needless to say the trip didn't go well. We wasted time with vendors that weren't priority and some were so misaligned with our needs which a quick conversation could have avoided those meetings. But we did walk away from the trip with a couple of leads to move to contract. In March, we started trying to follow up with Sarah on the vendors we liked as we wanted to secure them and avoid the risk of losing our date to other couples. Sarah claimed it was under control but we were never presented with contracts or asked for deposits. Our biggest follow up with was catering given the one Sarah presented to us was a complete mismatch. We undertook the search ourselves and ultimately found a caterer that fit our needs and budget. As we got into late March and then April, we started to hear less and less from Sarah. She would fire off weird updates to assure us she was hard at work but generally wouldn't return our texts or calls in the timely fashion as in the early part of the relationship. We still had no vendors secured and we started to get nervous and knew we needed to plan another trip. We decided to follow up with the handful of vendors we had contact info for just to see if there was a hold up somewhere. They all universally responded that they were either waiting on Sarah for a go ahead or that they didn't have our date secured. That's when we ended the relationship and took the planning upon ourselves. Even in the final 48 hours, she didn't reply to our urgent requests or even the fact we told her she was fired. To this day, we haven't heard from her. To say that she overpromised and under delivered is an understatement, steer far clear with your wedding planning needs.

The top 3 reasons why I would hire TVC for catering any event is: communication, flavor, and experience. Sara is a rockstar and we would not have had such a spectacular wedding if it wasn't for her. She goes out of her way to keep the couple informed, responds almost immediately to any and all questions/requests, and is just a wonderful person to be around! From quoting to executing the onsite catering, she is there every step of the way and knows all the important details. For our wedding we selected the below items: Passed apps: ahi poke tacos, mini arancini balls with tomato bisque, and pulled pork cornbread cakes. Given that we were having an outdoor wedding in November, we wanted to have something warm for our guests. Sara provided the creative idea to mix their fabulous arancini balls with a warm soup. It was a huge hit! Salad: Pear salad fit the fall theme perfectly! Mains: Syrah braised short rib and chicken piccata. Both were delicious (short rib was more popular) and we decided to serve family style instead of plated or buffet. This was a great option for us as our guests were able to converse and pass plates around. Food came out hot, which was a critical care about for us! Sides: Potato leek gratin and charred broccolini. The gratin is one of the best potato dishes I've ever tasted. I seriously wish I had this recipe! If I were to change one item, it would have been to sub in something more popular for the charred broccolini. In addition to the great food, TVC provided pie cutting, a water station, and tableside wine services.
