When we were at J. Lohr and asked our server for a recommendation for another good winery, he recommended Villa San-Juliette.  The property is spectacular!  They offer so many amazing items to purchase.  I was lucky to have Emily as a server.  She was so friendly and knowledgeable.  A tasting flight is $25 and is waived with a two-bottle purchase.  I really enjoyed all of their wines.  I ended up purchasing a bottle of 2022 zinfandel and a bottle of 2023 rose of Grenache.  I had a really enjoyable experience here, thanks to Emily!  Make sure you ask for her if you visit this beautiful winery!

Stopped by this weekend for their open house event and it was fantastic! We went for the first time earlier this year and were so taken by the wines, food and atmosphere that we joined their wine club. The property feels straight out Italy! Gorgeous landscapes, statues, and views. It's a little remote compared to other options but worth the trek IMO. We tried a few dishes from their kitchen and the Beef Stew was the best thing I ate all weekend!

If you are looking for a winery with a European flair then this is the place to visit. The view, ambience and service is top notch! The staff are all very friendly. Luis greeted us at the check in counter and told us we could sit where ever we liked. We wanted to be outside but in the shade. DJ our server, presented each bottle with a thorough description before he poured. He also filled us in on the history of the winery and how they came up with the name. *Owned by British TV Producers Nigel Lythgoe & Ken Warwick, (The OG's of American Idol), wanted to create wines with California grapes that were full of flavor & body. BTW...Also Shakespeare fans hence the name "Juliette" Our wine flight included: 2022 Sauvignon Blanc 5/5 2022 Rose of Grenache 4/5 2021 Alicante Boushet 4/5 2020 Malbec 5/5 (bought a bottle) 2020 Zinfandel 4/5 *an extra tasting of 2020 Chorum (a blend of all the red grapes) 5/5 (bought a bottle) The reds were mostly full bodied & bold which I prefer. The Sauvignon Blanc was crisp and perfect for summer. We ordered a Cheese & Charcuterie Board ($30) and Fries ($8) to accompany our wine. Delicious *Flight Tasting $25 per person/Fee waived with 2 bottle purchase/members complimentary *Beautiful grounds - leased out several times a year for weddings

Great bottle of wine. I ended up buying 2 bottles to take home and have with meals.

Myself and 4 of my friends found out that this winery was doing lunches and had heard good things. Our Server, Emily was the BEST. She was so friendly and accommodating and was able to explain any questions we had about the venue and the wines. We ordered Chilean Sea Bass on Corn Succotash, Paella for two and a Wedge Salad. We had a nice bottle of Alicante Bouche and liked it so much, we ordered another bottle. The food was incredible. We were happy with our entire experience here and of course the venue in beautiful. We will definitely be back. What a nice afternoon! Thanks, Emily!

Still rewinding mentally to our time at this drop dead gorgeous vineyard and winery! Our experience here was sublime, which happens to be the music that was playing when we arrived and when we were enjoying our tasting out on the terrace. It was like they knew we were coming! ;) Enjoying their award winning wine and spectacular views to the sounds of Sublime, Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Nirvana, and so on... the music was on point (in our humble opinion!). Scott was our wine expert and server, and he was so welcoming and friendly! We truly enjoyed our conversations with him, and appreciated him making our morning so delightful and relaxing. Thank you, Scott! Since it was an 11am tasting, we needed some food with our vino, so we ordered the Bruschetta al Pomodoro and the Rosemary Foccacia Bread. Both incredible!! You could really taste the freshness of the ingredients, and that focaccia bread was fresh out of the oven, and oh so perfect in taste and texture. Hats off to Chef Roberto Lavarini! My husband and I enjoyed the wine (maybe a little too much!), and left with a bottle of the 2021 Rosé and the 2019 Petit Verdot. We also loved the 2019 Alicante Bouschet Reserve. "Pro Tip:" If you purchase 2 bottles, the tasting fee is waived. We spent an extra half hour or more wandering around the property. Just glance at the photos and you'll see why we didn't want to leave...it's absolutely beautiful! I read on the website that Villa San-Juliette is owned by the former producers of American Idol, and I instantly recognized Nigel Lythgoe as also being a judge on the show So You Think You Can Dance! Just a little fun fact for you all. :) Definitely highly recommend VSJ. You can live out your Tuscan-style estate dreams right here in north Paso Robles!

Had such a good experience here! Luis was very knowledgeable about each wine and was great to talk to and very down to earth. The cheese board was great and the environment/ambiance here was lovely. Would definitely come back and ask for Luis!

Villa San Juliette is a hidden jem. Upon entering, you are teleported in some Tuscany villa with beautiful views. A perfect location for wine tasting and lunch. This is one of my favorite locations to visit. Consider Villa San Juliette, a place to take a friends and family.

Smash burger after a long day of wine tasting

We came for the wine and stayed for the smash burger. After a long day of wine tasting the beautiful patio area was the perfect way to end our day. Loved the reds. Service was decent. Food was wonderful.

Wine anyone?

I explained I had been to a few other wineries on the San Miguel side and he said, you know, we're part of the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail (13 wineries on the San Miguel side). I didn't even know about that, but come to find out some of the wineries I previously visited were part of the trail. I was thankful to Pedro for this, as it helped me plan out the rest of that day on the trail. This particular trip to Paso was a few days before the Labor Day holiday weekend. I wanted to get away, but also wanted to be as safe as possible, by going at a time where I felt there would be fewer people. In the morning a few hours before my visit, Vicky called to confirm my appointment. I appreciated that and I'm sure she did too. Vino Vargas is on the far end of the trail, so it's a little bit of the beaten path, but so worth it. Because appointments are highly recommended during this time of COVID, I happened to be fortunate enough to be the only one at the winery at that time. It was such a great experience. I was able to have a great (socially distanced) conversation with Vicky. Learned so much about her and Pedro's wine-making journey, and the wines they make. I suspect it's not something that would happen with much regularity on any non-COVID style scenario where tasting rooms are typically full or busy. The wines were also delicious. I'm not much of a white wine drinker, so I passed on that option on the tasting menu and went straight for the reds. I wound up buying four bottles - 2017 Toro Tinto Tempranillo, 2016 Rio Ruso Pinot Noir, 2017 El Taxi Cabernet, and Paso Rosa Rosé Dessert Wine. I was very luck to have gotten one of the very last bottles of the Paso Rosa and I was thrilled, because it is absolutely delicious. If you can make Vino Vargas part of your Paso Robles adventure, I would highly recommend it. Pedro and Vicky are the nicest and so love what they do. Their wines speak so much about the care they take in making them.

We stayed up in their AirBnB house (with a pool!) and came down the road for the wine tasting on Saturday, not knowing anything about the place or what to expect. And let me tell you, the star of the show, not the wines, although they were very tasty... it was FRED!! Our server. He worked with the family and helped all of us through the tasting. Fred took us through the seven wines on the list (SEVEN. For $15 a person! A deal!!) and this man is a heavy pour. These were full Glasses(tm) of wine. By the end we were all chatting it up and my only wish was that there were food options available, if only to slow the alcohol down. We ended up grabbing our own snacks from the house halfway through. You can waive a tasting by purchasing a bottle, and we ended up going in on a case of the Affinity and waived all the tasting costs. The place is beautiful and there is a wide event space that looks perfect for a ceremony or gathering. The inside is cute with a small shop and a clean bathroom. Loved it here. If youre the owner, give Fred a gold star sticker for me. He earned it.

Clearly, the universe had plans. But honestly, what impressed me most about Riverstar Vineyards wasn't just the wine -- it was the family behind it. Learning how each member contributes their own talents to the winery made the entire experience feel wonderfully genuine, collaborative, and refreshingly personal. There's something very special about businesses where you can still feel the people behind the vision. I also loved learning more about the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail collective itself... wineries supporting one another while also helping fund local agricultural scholarships and education efforts together. That kind of community spirit is exactly what makes Paso Robles wine country feel different. Warm people, beautiful wines, and a genuinely lovely evening all around. And yes... I'm still trying to figure out where to store 14 bottles... Not!

We planned a trip to see his farm on the last day of our trip. I sadly can't drink right now, so what else is there to do outside of family activities and wineries? Olive oil farming! It was a great way to end our time on the central coast. Richard started by telling us about his story of becoming the Olive oil man. He helped us learn about Olive trees (we had brought a branch from our tree), the olives themselves, and the milling process. He brought us into his tasting room, and we tried various oils and a vinegar, as wells as a few flavor pairings. We really have a new appreciation for not only olives, Olive oils, and farming, but Richard and smaller, non-commercial farmers. Every bottle is a labor of love crafted by him, his wife, and even his dog. The visit felt like we had visited an uncle, and we did buy oils (he definitely doesn't ask you to, but after tasting then and knowing the process, you definitely want to.) We were going to send some as gifts, but it's hard to appreciate something as much unless you've experienced it. We experienced the San Miguel Olive Farm and we're better for it. Thanks again Richard! We definitely will try to come up one October to experience the harvesting to complete the journey.
