The Rundown: Cool little brewery/pub with delicious beer & friendly bartenders. Overall: I'm a fan. Stopped by here a few Saturdays ago and happened to show up 15 minutes prior to their special beer event, the unveiling of their bourbon barrel age beer they had been working on the past several months. Oh man what were the odds?! For $10, a taster of this very special bourbon barrel aged stout / barley wine beer, a souvenir glass, a loaf of banana bread, and a nice selection of crackers and cheeses. Not bad not bad. Beers were great and people were friendly and we hung around for a few rounds to relax and enjoy the weekend. Call it two and a half stars with potential. Rustic is a hole in the wall that's easily missed if you're not looking. The interior is column shaped and narrow with the bar on the middle left, chopping the front and back in half. The brewing portion of their facility is in the front, which struck me odd. Some microbrewery's display their shiny kegs behind a glass window, Rustic has a messy beer producing area in their front window that left me wondering. When I arrived today I found the ten seats at the bar taken, but that was okay since I wanted to grab a growler and run. As I approached the bar I found myself standing with another patron waiting for service. That took a good five minutes, and the other guy had been waiting longer. To be fair, Rustic was being managed by one gal, who wasn't quick or overly attentive. The patron ahead of me ordered two flights which literally took 15 minutes for the bartender to take care of. After that the she turned to take care of 3-4 other people before offering to help me. It wasn't the best service, but she did offer me a free pour before deciding on the choice I made, which was the Sommerzeit Braunbier. This one goes down like a lager and has a hint of chocolate to it. The rest of their crafts didn't look all that inspiring to me so I'll consider another stop in the fall or winter. A few tips, I would recommend cleaning up the production area in the front. It's amateur hour looking. Second, I know it's a small place but patrons are easily turned off by lacking service. If staffing it solo, the bartender needs to work a little quicker and recognize people in a fair pecking order, not just tuning in to the needs of a frequent flyer. Lastly, get some food in here other than a meat & cheese tray. Even if you start with a menu of 3-4 basics, that's a start. read more

I might support this business if they took COVID seriously. I walked in, was handed a grubby menu by a bartender with her nose over her mask. Another staff was maskless. Patrons walked In without masks and social distancing was poor. I walked out immediately. This bar likely has, and will continue to make people sick. read more

Stopped in for the first time Saturday. I sampled a Strawberry Blonde and really liked it, so I had a pint... $9 for a pint?!? I wanted a 2nd but couldn't see spending $18 for 2 beers, so I ordered an Ale at $6, didn't like the Ale. Tried 3 different appetizers and really enjoyed the Reuben bites. I'd give it a higher rating but can't get past $9 for a pint. read more

The beer is great as is the ambiance. I am not a chicken wings fan, but during happy hour they are complimentary with a pint, so I tried them. They are very good with a wide variety if sauces. My favorite "Nashville Hot", appropriately spicey. If you're still hungry, the veggie chili is the bomb. The folks who take your order are very nice and that's a big plus these days. read more

First timers and coming to Wisconsin from Illinois since our restaurants are outdoor only. All of our first choices on the food menu were unavailable . Settled on other options and food was pretty good. Ordered the jalapeño brat which was decent but could have used a bit more bite. The brisket looked fantastic. Was somewhat dry but good. BBQ sauce was just ok. Wings were the best. We always order plain with sauce in the side. Chips were house made and those were great as well. Missed the mark with not offering house made ranch. That's a deal breaker for me. Overall nothing remarkable but ok. read more

The food is very good. Had the happy hour special a burger and side salad. Came out in reasonable amount of time. They offer small flight sized beer which I liked. Had the Frutaria Beer. Very light and fruity. Our initial order was taken pretty quickly. The place it self is rustic and charming. The service however after our initial order has been non existent. Not one table touch. Had to go to bar for a refill of water another drink for my husband. Another 30 minutes go by we wait. Finally again my husband had to go to the bar to get the check. It is a shame. Downtown Kenosha needs their businesses to thrive. Whoever owns this place. Needs to show up and fix the completely inattentive wait staff. The person bussing the table and delivering the food is on his game. Just not the waiter. Unfortunately that ruined our experience. My husband headed back to bar to drop off the check. The place was not super busy the waiter and another staff member were either missing or standing around talking. Would come back for the good food and beer but definitely never for the less than one star service. read more

Rustic Road in Kenosha is known for brewing good craft beers, and they do it well. Their new location has added a full bar, wine and food menu. This is where they started to fall short. We stopped in for drinks and dinner on a Wednesday evening to try out their food options on a slower night of the week. My girlfriend ordered their specialty drink, the Rustic Fashioned, (play on an Old Fashioned choice of Bourbon or Brandy) and I ordered one of their craft beers on tap. The beer was lightly hoppy and had great flavor, and the Rustic Fashioned was also made well. When it came time to order another drink, they ran out of Brandy and said they did not have any Brandy left in house. The beer was an easy one, since it is brewed in house, and I got another. My girlfriend decided on just getting a ginger ale, since they ran out of Brandy. Our food came out and looked presentable on the tin trays they served it on. My girlfriends Brisket sandwich came out with a cold bun, very little BBQ sauce on it and was very dry. She had the pub chips with it, they were overcooked and salt distribution on them was either a lot on one or none on the other. I ordered a Rustic burger with double cheese, grilled onions, thick cut bacon and tomatoes. What I received was a burger cooked to temp with no seasoning, no tomatoes, lightly grilled onions that were very crunchy and burnt crunchy bacon. Needless to say both entries were semi-edible, but not at all what we expected to receive. Rustic Road does well with their craft beers, but they honestly fail at their food preparations and should try to focus more on them if they want to continue having a kitchen. We will not be back to try any of their other food items. read more

They brew some of the best Trappist style Belgian brews around! I prefer the Dubbel, but their Tripple is also outstanding!

Get the brisket sandwich, minus the BBQ. Trust me! Such a great menu item! Back that up with a down to earth staff and a great beer selection make this a great place to visit. read more

Giant Bavarian pretzel was absolutely delicious. HUGE. Perfectly cooked. Yummy, yeasty aroma and chewy interior, with a beautiful, perfectly browned outside. Their garlic cheese curds last night and crispy chicken sliders were delicious too. I enjoy the Simmons Island blonde, and my husband likes most of the IPA'S. Keep up the great service! read more

Excellent brews and food! Attentive staff and nice interior. The only thing that bugs me is the very young crowd. UW Parkside is nearby and I heard downtown changed a lot over recent years. I took a trip to Kenosha, Wisconsin and while there I stopped by this cozy storefront brewery. I fell in love with the place and also their Simmons Island Imperial Blonde. Rustic Brewing Company is a truly unique experience, right in the heart of downtown Kenosha. And Kenosha, I can assure you I will return again just for Rustic Road Brewing Company. Rustic Road Brewing Company is a great storefront brewery in downtown Kenosha. And all of RRBC's draft beers are made on site, and about three feet from their bar. You might even catch them brewing their beer while drinking their delicious suds. During my trip I got to see the brewmaster filling their kegs with their brew. As I mentioned above, I fell in love with their Simmons Island Imperial Blonde. A great slightly sweet, smooth American blonde ale, amped up with a local honey from West Bend, Wisconsin. And with an 8.8% ABV this mellow beer packs a punch. So good! I want one right now! They offer snifters, bombers and growlers of their delicious beer. I definitely took a bomber of the Imperial Blonde home. The Metra Union Pacific North train line stops in Kenosha, it is the last stop on the line. I've been coming here for years, and have been a mug club member for a couple of the past years. The beer is the best in town - even if you don't like the style, you can tell it's well made beer - and there is always, always a beer on tap that we love. Mug club is a great deal with half price beers on Tuesdays too. The staff here is amazing - they are just good, kind people. Last night we had Andy and Jake - two great guys who make sure you are well taken care of and have everything you need and like. I was very excited when Rustic Road opened a few months back. The Southern Wisconsin area has been dying to have a place like this open up. They have a seasonal beer that they rotate on a pretty regular basis. Currently they have a Hazelnut beer on tap which is a good break away from the norms. I also really like that as they were building this place they did not cut any corners in quality of building the bar either. It's a small brewery and bar however the staff is great and the beverages are top notch. They also now are serving Tenuta's Pizzas which are tasty. read more

We lived in the Kenosha area during the early days of our marriage, so we try to get back for a visit once or twice a year, and have been impressed by the redevelopment of the Harborpark/downtown area. Still a work in progress to be sure, but it's light years beyond what it was in the early 00's. After this most recent visit, we wish we could move back, and Rustic Road is a big part of the reason why! The space is small and intimate, and all of the brewing equipment is right up front in the window, which is a great idea & really drives home the point that everything is made right there on site. It must be a lot of fun to walk or bike past and get to watch the brewmaster at work. The KPA (Kenosha Pale Ale) is a "must try" if you're a hop-head like me, a nice smooth IPA style beer with just enough bitterness. My wife, who is not a beer drinker, had their September seasonal brew, Hazelnut Harvest, and loved it. It had a hint of sweetness, without being sweet...it's hard to describe, but after she let me try a sip of it, I kept sneaking more because it was that good (sorry, Honey. :) The seasonals will change every month or so, and we were tipped off that the next one on deck is a Pumpkin Porter...yum!. After we finished our pints we also sampled the Blonde and the Amber, both of which were just as good. You can tell that they've taken care to get the beer just right, and the beers are surprisingly inexpensive for the quality. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the brews, and took great care of us. We got a chance to catch up with the owner, Greg (who is a childhood friend of mine, I should add by way of disclaimer) so if he's around when you're there, let him know which brew is your fave. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at RRBC, and will definitely be back! read more

Slow. As. Molassssssssses. We got to place our order after 15 min. Then....not one table touch...15 min later...30 min...go up order my own drinks (Hint Hint)...doesn't register at all. I am now 45 minutes from our last table touch. Sitting 15-30 minutes with an empty glass and having to roll to the bar yourself is garbage customer service. Great food great beer but they need John Telfer to kick some of their employees in the ass and catch a clue about customer service. read more

Checked their website before going and selected a couple of beers that are "always on". Neither was available. Nor was their seasonal porter. I was told not to rely on the website as it is not updated regularly. Then what is the point of having one? I tried one of their smash brews and it was terrible. No color, no flavor, no point. Akin to Miller light. In addition the bar area was poor. Reminiscent of a college bar and not the good ones. I will not be back. The worst craft brewery I have ever visited. A follow up from my comments yesterday... June 28th... I felt somewhat guilty about the negative comment I left yesterday.... so we decided to stop in and give them another shot. Nope... still disappoionted! After 6 months, they are just now starting to brew their own beer (that alone is a downfall! When going to a brewery, I want that beer!), we sat there for at least 5 minutes before the bartender came to serve us, and it was the same girl from last time and once again she seemed annoyed to be there, and still had no idea what was going on with the beer club. I am not sure if management/owners read these posts, but I feel we are not the only ones that see a decline in the changes from the previous location! I hope you can turn things around! June 27th... This was our FAVORITE brewery to go to... BEFORE they closed their original location on 56th st. We joined their beer club, paid for 2 mugs so we would always have our mugs when we came in. About a month later, they closed and were moving to their other location. Prior to this we were told as soon as they re-opened we would still have our mugs. Well... they have since re-opened and after several months, we went in once, the girl was rude and not friendly at all, almost seemed annoyed that we came in, and were told they are not sure if/when they will be using the mugs again. I have contacted them a few times via FB asking about it, and still don't have answers. I personally feel I got ripped off. We should at least get our mugs back that we paid for! I usually don't sound so harsh in my reviews, but this is extremely disapointing to us as we really enjoyed going here! We liked their old ways better! If we ever go back, it will most likely just be to pick up our mugs... read more

Every time I am aching for a fresh craft beer I drop by Rustic Road. It has an awesome but relaxed atmosphere with great bartenders that are knowledgeable and friendly. My favorites beers that they have and I highly recommend are the following: Cabin Up North (Sweet Stout) Single Track IPA K.P.A (Kenosha Pale Ale) Downtown Double (Imperial IPA) St. George's Pride (Bitter Ale) Rustic Road Birthday Barley Wine The majority of their beers are seasonal so out of 30 or so different beers they alternate between 6 different taps. So you won't be able to find all the beers I listed in one sitting. They also have a pretty sweet mug for those who are in their Traveler's Club. I come here enough and I still don't have one! They don't distribute their beer but you can always grab a growler or a half-growler to fill at the tap room. They have a great selection of wines and it's great when I bring friends that don't drink beer. They don't have an in-house kitchen but they will often have popcorn (if you ask) and an amazing cheese board with local Wisconsin flavors.Their cheese board also had a jam from a store around the corner (Sally Mae) that I am now hooked on and it pairs very nicely with a good IPA. You can also order Pizza if you are hungry and don't want to navigate around the block, which is nice. Their brewing set up is one of a kind and if you are lucky you can actually see the Brewmaster working his magic, in front of the pub entrance, as you drink beer. If you are lucky to catch him brewing ask him to let you try a beer that is in the fermenter tank to see the difference in aroma/ flavor/ and body of the beer compared to one that is on tap! Wednesday nights is their Cigar, Bourbon, and Beer nights Friday nights they usually hold trivia nights, which is a lot of fun, and best of all free. Saturday nights they usually have local bands playing in-house, which are free as well. If you are in Kenosha and want to try some local beer I definitely recommend finding this unique gem. read more

Great place for food and great beers. We had brisket for dinner and fried mushrooms for appetizer. The brisket was done perfectly and the barbecue sauce was amazing. They put it on Texas toast, toasted with butter. The mushrooms were very tasty. Food was out within 10 minutes even with a moderate crowd. Service was friendly. Music was great. Made a short stop, along a long road trip, to enjoy local brews at Rustic Road! I was NOT disappointed. Selecting a 6-beer flight, I fell in love with the Coconut Abyss Robust Porter and the Hazelnut Harvest. The Five Tool Ale, Farenheit 451 and Imperial Blonde also made my tastebuds dance. Had I not been so far from home, I would have definitely taken a growler of Coconut Abyss home with me! The pours were generous and for 6 beers, I paid only $10! The bar area had comfortable seating with fair service. There were 13 delicious brews to choose from and could opt for a 4, 6 or 8 beer flight! The decor was rustic, as the name alludes, with beautiful wood decor. The bathrooms were clean and updated. While we didn't try any food, the small menu had options for most any dietary needs. The prices were very good for the portions- definitely competitive the area. I would certainly make a stop here, again. read more
