I wasn't overly impressed with the food or drink menu here. They have your typical bar food. I ordered the chicken tenders with onion rings and both were pretty flavorless. Their house made ranch is good, though. In regard to drinks, they don't have a ton on tap. Also, if you're looking for something non-alcoholic, your only options are pop or water. There is limited seating (and no high chairs if you have little ones), and you order your drinks/food at the bar, so the line can get kinda long if everyone's up to order at the same time. read more

Hands down the best fried pickles I have ever had! I was heading through the area recently and this place was on my list of breweries to stop at. The main street that it is located on is quaint and has that unique small town America vibe, which I love and is lined with several local small businesses that seem to take a lot of pride in what they do. I was happy I stopped here because it ended up being just the kind of place I love and come back to again and again. There is public plenty of paid parking beside the building, but it's also free depending on the time and day you go. I love the exterior of this business and the garage door that opens in the front for a nice breeze and view of the city street is a nice added touch. We ordered a flight of beer and every beer was cold and tasty and of course I've already told you about those damn fried pickles I could live on. The bartender was friendly and very helpful and the patrons who were there on the day we stopped were all having a good time. Great spot for live music, a beer, and tasty food! My friend and I came in on a Saturday evening around 530. There was a good amount of seating available. You order up at the bar and they bring the food out to you. I had a 4 beer flight and the fried pickles. My favorite beer was definitely the blood orange wheat! I went back and got another pint of that The fried pickles are spears and they were so good! The breading had flavor and the spicy aioli for dipping was perfect. It wasn't really spicy, if you're afraid of heat. My friend had the grapefruit hefe and the blood orange wheat, as well, and loved both. She also ordered the loaded fries and they were as advertised- cheesy & bacon-y. The space is super welcoming. They had live music coming in at 8pm and the crowd was really filling in by 7-730. The wonderful woman that answered the phone could not have been nicer! She stated that they could not accommodate us in the brewery, but were happy to set tables out front for us. A hidden gem!! Nice selection of beer! They just released their Oktoberfest & they are featuring a nice little Oktoberfest menu along with wings & some other fun bar food. I stopped by Rusty Gold Brewing this past weekend when I was in the area and had some time to kill. Very happy I found this hidden gem. Everything from the decor, to the food, drinks, and service was top notch. For drinks I ordered the house ipa they have. I believe it is called prospectors. It was a perfect amount of hoppiness and flavor. Definitely one of my favorite beers I have had in awhile. For food I ordered the hot wings. I was impressed with both how flavorful the sauce was and how well the wings were cooked. I hate slimy wings and they cooked theirs to a perfect level of crisp. This allowed for the sauce to hold up well on the wing without getting too soggy. The sauce is definitely house made and was a perfect level of spiciness. Also, their ranch dressing was incredible and was a great compliment to the wings. The owner told me it was house made and you could certainly tell. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful with any questions I had. Service was fast throughout my time here too. I will definitely be stopping back the next time I am in the area. read more

I stopped by here a couple of Saturdays ago with my wife for drinks and dinner. Rusty Gold Brewing has been on my list of Yelp bookmarks for quite a while and so whenever my wife and I got a free weekend night we decided to pay it a visit. The restaurant is in the heart of Canonsburg and on the day that we were there it was warm enough that they had the front area open to the elements. It consists of a large bar that runs along the left side of the restaurant and then seating throughout the rest. Both their beer and food menus are on chalkboards behind the bar and they have a ledge high up that goes around the restaurant which has older things on it. For dinner on this evening I decided to go with one of their Lenten specials, the Shrimp po boy, while my wife went with a Pepperoni flat bread. We also tried to place an order of hush puppies but were told by our bartender that they were sold out. Whenever our food came to the table I have to admit that I was a bit confused by mine. My "po'boy" consisted of some shrimp, letucce, tomato and onion on a hamburger bun along with a side of fries and some tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. Where was my crunchy French baguette and more importantly where was the remoulade? It was disappointing to say the least as I think it should have been called shrimp sandwich instead of po boy as it only resembled a po boy by having fried shrimp on it. Once I got past my disappointment with it I have to admit that at least the shrimp tasted good as the breading to them had a nice thickness as a cornmeal grittiness which I liked. The fries here were your average fries and there wasn't anything special or bad about them. My wife did enjoy her flatbread pizza and while the piece I tried wasn't bad, I can't say I was impressed by it. Beer wise, as i often do whenever I visit a new brewery, I went with a flight here. I was given the option to choose 4 or to have all 8 and so of course I went with all 8! The first beer that I tried was the 1802 Cream Ale which was a Nice and smooth drinker with the flavor of malts coming in on the finish. My wife really enjoyed this one and it was probably her favorite that she tried. In any case, up second was the Recessive trait Irish red which almost tasted like a stout or porter with some dark malts early before some smokiness to finish. Next was the Insanity defined IPA which had smooth start proceeding into some nice citrus and hops to finish. Fourth was the Widget salesman Irish Stout which was a surprisingly light beer for its color. It had a little smokiness on the nose and you could really taste those dark roasted malts in the taste. The fifth beer that I tasted was Terra bullies brown ale which started off with some bitterness before finishing with a somewhat sweet flavor. Sixth was the Repurposed rye barrel aged barley wine. I have to be honest and admit that I generally hate barley wines. This one was no exception as it had that strong barley wine taste but at least I could appreciate the oaky flavor from the rye barrel which made it a lot more palatable in my opinion. Seventh was the Crows fly at midnight imperial stout which started off with a little sweetness before heading into some bitterness and mellowed out at the finish. I really couldn't tell that it was 10% ABV which was nice but that could be dangerous. Last but certainly not least was the Yorkshire peppermint patty. I didn't even try this one due to the fact that I can't have chocolate. Before i made that decision I did ask and although there is no milk chocolate in it, it's made with cocoa nibs, vanilla and peppermint which was enough to make me pass. My wife thought that it tasted good though and was very pepperminty. Out of the bunch I think that the IPA and cream ales were my favorites. The bottom line for me is that I might stop by here again in the future. While there wasn't anything necessarily wrong with the beer of the food here, there are plenty of other breweries in the Pittsburgh area which do both better. read more

"Okay" brewery located downstairs Canonsburg. Parking is limited, so you might have to drive around for a spot. I really like the look of this place. It is rustic industrial with what appears to be old old original black & white tile flooring. Pretty cool. They bar is pretty large and there are also a few high top long wooden tables with stools & regular wooden tables with chairs on one side and booth seats in the other. Rusty Gold has a decent selection of beer on tap, but not too many. They also offer some wine on tap, which I like. I tried the black cherry & it was good but extremely sweet. The bartender offered to put it in a glass with club soda as a spritzer, which made it better. As for food, your typical bar food. You must order at the bar by the register with the bartender as they do not have servers at your table. Works well for people going in a group that want separate checks but not if you are looking to go somewhere and be waited on. They only have 1 salad on the menu. I wish they would add more salad options. I had wings which I thought were pretty good. They cook them pretty crispy, which is what I like. Options for wings are 8 (can only pick 1 sauce) or 12 (you can select 2 sauces). 12 wings were $13 which I thought was kind of pricy. I got buffalo then spicy Parmesan. Both good but I felt they were a little skimpy on the sauce. After having the wings, I was SUPER THIRSTY. Since we didn't have a server, I had to go to the bar and ask for a glass of water. I've always wanted to try this place out! It's located right on the main drag of Canonsburg on W. Pike Avenue. It is a very cool abs aesthetically appealing interior with a lot of room. They had a great variety of beers, a few wines and a pretty good food menu. I selected a Winter Peppermint Porter as my drink of choice and it was delicious! A friend had a black cherry wine which was also very good from the taste test I received. Everyone is friendly and it has a neighborhood bar/friendly vibe to it. I will say that the acoustics are not the best even being at 50% capacity. It also took an incredibly long time (30-40 mins) for them to make and give us the pretzel with beer cheese appetizer we ordered. I think they forgot and the waitress reminded them to make them ASAP. I love the small, but diverse beer selection. If you like Bud and Miller products, you'll need to expand your palate a little. Definitely do go out on a limb, though, because they brew some decent beer. I've only had the food once, but their wings were okay. The ambiance is nice because there's nothing else like it in town. Everything is about a dollar or two more than I'd spend anywhere else, but not (m)any other places brew their own product. The parking situation isn't as dire as I've read in other reviews. There is a public, metered lot next to the place. One block away in either direction are additional metered lots (by the library, behind the old PNC Bank). There are definitely some kinks that need to be worked out, but if so, this place has the potential to be not only a staple, but a legitimate draw to downtown Canonsburg. read more

If you are coming here for food, don't. First of all their ordering system is highly confusing, there were no menus at our table so we had to read off of a chalkboard. Then you have to order on a touch screen in the back of the restaurant. You pay there, we used a card so you swipe it to the scanner connected, I'm not sure what you would do with cash. On your receipt you receive a number that they call when your food is ready. You will have to be very diligent about hearing your number as the acoustics are awful in the place, there is no fabric to absorb the noise. Also if you want fountain drinks you will have to go to the bar to order them, and you will have to keep returning to the bar to receive refills. There is no wait staff for the tables to ask if you need a refill, if the food was good, if everything was ok. etc. It was not appetizing at all, to the point that we didn't eat half of the food we ordered. We were an early dinner for a Saturday, and they already ran out of half of their menu. I'm not big into eating "heavy" so I was going to order their Portobello salad. Unfortunately they ran out of Portobello, which was on half of their menu. So we ordered loaded fries, cheeseburger, and Asian Pork Belly Bites. All disgusting. The fries tasted like they were brine in the saltiest of oceans, added some extra salt, and more salt. The burger basically tasted like it came from Costco, nothing special. The Pork Belly was extra chewy, in a basic siracha sauce that you find on pinterest, the layer of greens beneath it was half rotten.
