I have to give them only 3 stars because things just weren't the way we are accustomed to. For instance, my wife had the breakfast platter; 2 eggs, grits, toast. She ordered her eggs "OVER EASY". What she got was eggs that were well done. For instance #2. I ordered a 2 egg Western omelette; cheese, bell peppers, tomatoes and onions. The bell peppers and tomatoes were not cooked as they were still crunchy. The saving grace was the hash browns with onions. Awesome stuff. read more

The lunch special ($9.95) came with French fries and they were fried perfectly. My friend ordered the Reuben and it was excellent, as well since we split our sandwiches so we could both get a taste of the great sandwiches. Our family visited for breakfast on a random Tuesday morning- after the weather cancelled our fishing trip. We were quickly seated and ordered. We tried two orders (total of 6) beignets, cafe au lait, chocolate milk, and coffee. All were tasty! Our food took a bit longer than normally expected. Again from other posted, there was only one poor waitress and she was sweating bullets as she tried to hurry, so we didn't mind the extra time. We had biscuits & gravy, French toast with strawberries, bacon, shrimp omelette and a western omelette. The shrimp omelette and grits were a big hit! Overall total bill was $75. The food was amazing! As soon as we sat down, a waitress was there asking what we would like to drink. Came back shortly after with that and our order of beignets(think of really big/thick funnel cake). A few minutes later we got our actual meals. I got the French toast, with strawberry/banana added on top with a side of bacon. My boyfriend got a turkey croissant with coke slaw. The coleslaw was good but could've used a bit more sauce as it was on the dry side. Still, it tasted quite good. The rest of the meal tasted amazing! But the place was under staffed. They had one waitress taking care of all the orders during the breakfast rush. No check ups on how we're doing. No refills. Because it was only one girl for an entire diner. That's just not smart! Went there for the Pho. Meh at best. Didn't have the usual to choice from like brisket, meatball or chicken, just roast beef. My wife had an omelet, looked like they put velveeta cheese in it. Also ordered a side of egg rolls, it was pretty obvious that the oil wasn't hot when they dropped the rolls because they were full of grease when served to us. Beside the food being subpar, the walls are carpeted. Which to me is a safe haven for bacteria and food Bourne illnesses. I wanted to not hurt feelings but the food was GARBAGE. While our server was very accommodating and apologetic when one of our orders was forgotten, the actual food itself left MUCH to be desired. 3/4 of us got seafood and couldn't eat it because it tasted dirty. The mozzarella sticks were clearly frozen, and not cooked enough. The walls were lined with dingy carpet that made me uncomfortable, and don't even get me started on the bathrooms. I have eaten at the Rusty Pelican two times now and have had a great experience both visits. What brought me back is the pho! The broth was flavorful and plenty of meat in there. You get the fixings, bean sprouts, jalapeño, and cilantro.I do wish they served some fresh basil with the fixings though. But this place is still right up there with my favorite New Orleans spots for pho. I have also tried the crab ragoons and wasn't the biggest fan.
