It is what it is! If you're looking for a dive bar full of good folks unwinding after a long work day, this is your place. Went on a cold winter's night when the tourists were long gone. The bartender Lorrie was friendly and fun like your friends cool mom. 80's songs on the play list. Have a beer and watch the local news. This place made my brain overwork and I loved it! My husband is a dive bar lover. When we drove by to check in at the hotel next door, I immediately noticed the neon beer sign squished in the small basement-esque style window of Rusty's and I declared that this place was for him! Boy I was not wrong! Things I contemplated while in Rusty's: Why put up cling holiday stickers facing the bartender instead of the customers? (on the covid plexi barrier) How many style of floor tiles can one place have leading to the bathrooms? Is that a stripper pole??! What an eclectic group of customers? Is that a photo prop from the 80's? ( think sports illustrated cut out) How did the music just go from Metallica to Dominic the Donkey and it's only the 1st week of November? Would I eat food from this establishment? Bottom line... I enjoyed all the nonsense that went into the whole Rusty's experience. I have to say we had some interesting conversations with strangers that night and they were certainly memorable. read more

We ordered takeout from here a couple of weeks ago,and everything we got was great. I had the Reuben,which was huge. We also got the fried pickles( yummy,generous portion) mozzarella sticks ( delicious) and the lobster roll,which was the only item that was lacking. My husband said it was good,but missing something? It is not Newporty at all, just a fun bar where it doesn't matter how much money you have , you can even get 2 hot dogs with fries for $4.00,now no one pin the port can give you that deal. If I could give this bar no stars, I would. My friends and I came and we were all 21+ but the young bartender made us uncomfortable right when we walked into the door. She yelled at us saying that if we arn't 21 we need to leave. Then when we went to sit down, she came over and proceeded to make a scene saying we need to get out without even checking our IDs. We have been there before in the week and we're served by the most respectful person but the young women with a tattoo sleeve made us too uncomfortable to stay. read more

Places like these are so important to the local culture and unfortunately, they're disappearing rapidly. I decided to try this place out while on vacation and I'm so glad I did! Went there for lunch after the beach and came back later that night for the Karaoke. First of all, the food's legit. I'm no stranger to a fried fish sandwich and the one I had was top quality. I spoke to the owner of the bar during lunch and she explained that the owners of the hotel across the street own the building the bar's housed in. They've been trying to develop the site for a few years now but it hasn't gone through yet. My only hope is that it never goes through as this place is an important social outlet for many people. When places like this go, they're gone for good. There should be legislation or at least a local ordinance to prevent places like this from being developed! Best of luck Rusty's! Stopped here tonight for dinner and a beer. First thing I noticed was the lack of boat shoes and men with hair styles among the bar patrons. It was a refreshing change from the usual crowd I have encountered during my stay in Newport. A little bit of a "dive" bar but I mean that in the best way. A comfortable place just to sit and chat while eating bar food. The bartender Debbie was a sweetie and the patrons were a nice mix of characters and bar rats. The liquor pours are big and the beer was ice cold. We ordered a hamburger, fried fish and a philly cheese steak. All three came with a heaping pile of fries. The food was solid. Not horrible and not spectacular....just typical. They have a stripper pole with a nifty sign that says "pole dancers welcome" fortunately no one was "workin the pole" since I had my 14 year old son with me. Yeah it's that kind of place, you can eat, have a beer and your child sitting comfortably with you and nobody gives you a second look. Perfect:) read more

This joint was across the street from where we were staying. We were hungry and looking for a bite to eat. Lots of Harleys out front. This is the real deal. The food is great. Amazing dive bar! I say dive bar with lots of respect. Within moments of arriving a dog was walking around welcoming a pet from everyone and the bartender started filling a generous shot of Jim Beam for my boyfriend...free of charge. Appears to be a local, biker joint with a mix of different eras of rock filling the bar....oh and there's a stripper poll, pool tables, and a punching bag. I stop in here regularly every Sunday morning after my overnight shift. It's the only place in town that serves beer at 8:00 a.m. Not to mention their great breakfast deals. Rusty's is a quick walk from my house. They're always good for a burger and a beer, when it's too hot to cook at home, or when I'm just being lazy. This is not a bar or restaurant, this is a place fishing for private tolling cash! I parked on their site today because it is a relatively empty parking lot for $8 dollars. But with nobody out there collecting payments and no sign says pay inside, we figured the parking person may just stepped away. So we figured that it should be ok to pay upon coming back. Guess what, in half an hour's time, our car disappeared with no note telling us the whereabouts of our car - and by the way, we only figured out that the parking lot had anything to do with this restaurant after we walked into the place asking them whether they know who owns the parking pace and how to reach them! And naturally with the inqury comes two things, one is, we are not responsible for the car on our lot if they did not pay a fee - excuse me, but first of all it's a far stretch from calling a private toll company and had it tolled with no note, secondly, we couldn't find anybody to pay the fee to - you had no sign to even say "pay inside", or this parking property belong to "rusty's". Second thing likely almost a classical bad movie, the waitress is always busy and rude and no time for a foreign family, who, because of her, just had their car towed away!" I have never seen a small town restaurant having such unbelievably rude and inconsiderate manner to tourists, so guys, think twice before going inside! read more
