All of the food we ordered came out in less than 10 minutes. Irish latte - creamy & sweet Sourdough toast - not tooo toasty, but came pre-buttered with just the right amount. Country fried steak - giving a strong shoutout to this one. the sunny side up eggs were cooked to perfection. The whites were cooked just the right way where they were solid, yet still preserved the yolk. The steak itself was also cooked to perfection, being fried just so it's tender enough to be cut by a butter knife, but not too soft where it doesn't lose it's texture. The much bally-hooed breakfast here is just okay at best. The omelette was really marginal. I expect a four egg omelette to be a big, fluffy affair with that right mix of ham, onions and green pepper. Sadly, it wasn't the case, it was a flat greasy affair that didn't have much flavor to it. The grits were pretty good but, you know after adding butter to it just seemed to mush up and suck any flavor I could have gotten from it. All in all, I was sad to be disappointed here. We'd driven past this place a few times and wanted to try it. Can't say the wait was long or the service was bad. What I can say is we spent about $18.50 (before tip) for a salmon croquettes dish and a very small plate of hash browns (which also had uncooked onions and bell peppers, extra charge at $2.00 which the server should have told us would be extra). Portions were ridiculously small (think of Michael Douglas at the burger place in "Falling Down"), food was below average at best and the cornbread was dry and mealy. Basic breakfast spot popular with locals. Being in the south I had to order the fried green tomato Benedict. I've had MUCH better fried green tomato Benedict in central Illinois at one of my town local spots to be frank. At Ruth Anns, it's $10.99 and doesn't include any meat on the sandwich and also doesn't come with a side. The tomatoes were so thin, if I didn't know they were there, I would miss them. The portions are quite small and the prices are quite high. Went out for breakfast with a friend at 9am. Had a 25 minute wait for a table. We ordered our drinks, 2 coffees and two waters. The waitress brought back just one coffee so I asked if I could also get mine during our food order. Food took about 20 minutes to get after our order. I ordered the Red rooster Benedict; the biscuits were soft, the gravy was creamy, and the chicken was just spicy enough. It was a huge portion too. I could hardly finish my plate. Someone else got the Sunrise Benedict, and he finished his Benedict in around 5 minutes, practically licking his plate. I was happy with the coffee, but when someone in our group wanted something stronger, he got the "army strong:" four shots of espresso in his coffee. He said it was delicious and hit the spot. If you're ever in Columbus, COME HERE!! It's your typical local diner ambiance but the food is exceptional! It's our favorite breakfast spot, and we always get their famous Cap'n Crunch French Toast. My husband ordered the fried green tomato eggs benedict and he said there wasn't much flavor to it. He later said he wished he'd ordered the omelet I had. While you don't get hashbrowns or homefries as a free side, you really don't need it. You do get toast or biscuit - the biscuit is the way to go! After touring CSU with our daughter, we had lunch at Ruth Ann's. My husband ordered the Irish Benedict, which was yummy. I had Thanksgiving dinner with some of the best fried okra I've ever had in a restaurant. The crowning jewel of the meal was ordered by my daughter. My breakfast experience at Ruth Ann's was far from a disappointment, in fact, I would call it a success. I did not order the typical egg, bacon and toast breakfast--I stuck to the part of the menu everyone recommended to me--the french toast or pancakes. At first I was torn between the Cap'n Crunch French Toast and the Red Velvet Pancakes and then my eye caught the special...banana caramel pecan french toast. Back to my french toast. When it got to me, I was blown away. The presentation was nice, not sloppy and overdone like some places. The amount of whipped cream was perfect, caramel was done right, and smelled delicious. When I took my first bite, it was heaven. Perfect balance of banana, caramel, bread, egg, whipped cream goodness. The mister enjoyed his Cap'n Crunch French Toast, however, he's a Ruth Ann's veteran and that's his favorite so he was not surprised. The only reason for the 4 stars and not the full 5 is the price. It's quite pricey for the type of food being served. Otherwise, totally a 5 star experience for me.
