After completing the full 4-course dinner, I was told there would be a $5 upcharge for creme brûlée because cheesecake was the only dessert option available. Given that this was a special birthday celebration and the total bill for two people exceeded $250, I was surprised that a small accommodation like a complimentary dessert was not offered or included in the experience. It wasn't about the $5--it was about the feeling of hospitality on a milestone birthday. At a restaurant of this caliber, I expected a little more attention to guest experience on a special occasion. Met some friends here for a couple's date night, and really enjoyed my time. Our waiter, Jamison, really took care of us. He went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. It was nice to know he was from the same city in Tennessee as myself and another friend that joined me as well. I'm updating this after we recently ate at a new and well-received steak and fine dining place, then here. Hands down, Ruth's won the matchup. And here's a shocker....the prices at Ruth's were much lower than the other place. When has anyone said they'd choose Ruth's for the lower costs! But a filet here at $52 compared to $75 (same size) at the other place? Come on! We both had their current special deal, a 3-course menu for $55. We upgraded several options but still got a great meal. The Caeser salad was excellent as was the French onion soup. Steaks (one filet, one the prime steak coming with the special) were done just right and scrumptuous. Then two sides (large enough for each of us to share) and a simple yet tasty bread pudding (but that was the weak point, to me). Delicious drinks and great service as well. read more

OK Ruth Chris has really stepped it up!! Was so pleased to get to change my review. First off, location hasn't changed - still the most prime real estate in Knoxville on the river. Such a great spot - and the option of in or outside is clutch. Blake was such a fantastic server. Super attentive, personable and professional. He greeted us by our last name when he introduced himself. Whether wiping crumbs off of the white table cloth or successfully transporting a full dirty martini (with blue cheese olives) to the table, he was on it. Unlike our experience last time, steaks were cooked PERFECTLY. We stuck to the filets. One Oscar style and one truffle crusted. Wow. The way they are still sizzling on the hot plate in the butter. *chefs kiss* Started with the goat cheese/artichoke dip. These are served with crostinis so I definitely had my share of bread. Warm loaves with butter were brought out so when we inevitably ran out of crostinis, we used the rest of our second loaf as if we didn't have steaks on their way. It was just so good!! I'm always a wedge girl but strayed to get the Caesar and it was delicious. Lemon forward which I loved. That and the bread were definitely worth spoiling my dinner for. We ordered the side of au gratin potatoes and they were pretty good - even better leftover. We weren't impressed with the spinach before so probably should give that a shot next time. And the honey brussel sprouts sounded good as well. Had zero room leftover for dessert but Blake made it easy to use my giftcard and let us hang out as long as we wanted without feeling pressured to turn the table. I've eaten at Ruth's Chris more times than I can count, in several locations. The quality is ALWAYS consistent and great. You can judge an establishment by how things go when something goes wrong. Our server was wonderful. Our appetizer was spot on as usual, lobster was great as always. For the first time EVER (20+ years) my steak was just "off," no flavor and tough as boot leather. I chalked it up as an anomaly, a first-ever loss. I was satisfied with my other food, had dessert, and took home my steak for the pup. Lauren, the manager called me today and just blew me away with the level of care and service she provided. I don't think I've ever had that level of attention to quality ANYWHERE! I have been here before but it was over a decade ago during a big presentation /bug group and I was frustrated my steak was over cooked so I avoided this place. My husband wanted to go and made reservations without telling me where we were going and I was pleasantly surprised with the taste of the food that was correctly made to my order. I got steak and shared some potatoes and asparagus with my husband. The bread was good too. The crème brûlée was so smooth and delicious. Review update since last year - we're doubling it to 4/5. +1 - cleanliness - looked great +1 - venue and vibe - classy, and that's OK +1 - location and parking - got in quick without a long walk +1 - food and beverage - twas' an exceptional dine -1 - staff and service - waited exceptionally long compared to the normal times that we've been in. i attribute it likely to being one of the first there when they opened. still, no reason to be that latent, even since we said we wanted to order things all together and needed to be out by around 2 hours in. will be back for some of the better steak in town. read more

I have been to a lot of Ruth Chris across the country and this one is by far the worst, the service was awful it took over an hour to get our food and over thirty minutes to get drinks, our entire dining experience was two hours for 4 people at the cost of $500/w tip( $21 water fee wtf). It is unfortunate that in Knoxville this company sells an elevated experience and it is subpar to a Ruth Chris in LA or Chicago or 5 others I could think of. Bottom line go somewhere else. read more

I took a client here for dinner. The atmosphere is very "mall" restaurant, if that makes sense--- not a high-end steak house feel. They overcooked both of our steaks, but they were still juicy (from the butter this place slathers on them) and had good flavor. Service took forever to show up, from when we first sat down to getting refills or the check. I think that's a steakhouse thing. They charge you so much for a piece of meat that they think by making your meal last 3 hours you'll think it has more value. If there are other options for pricey steaks, I suggest you try them. I came in here and met a client for a light dinner, so we decided to stay at the bar and not waste a table. We were greeted by Ardon and Katy who helped us all night. Everyone that comes to a Ruth's Chris expects the food to be same everywhere. You all know the pricing and how much h things cost. So I'll save you the details about how amazing my tuna was. Back to Ardon and Katy. Bartenders serve hundreds of people a week. A lot of the time they are just waiting for their table. They get up and leave. These two were some of the most amazing bartenders I ever sat with. Both were super attentive, extremely personable, and made me feel like I was a guest in their home. You cannot put a price tag on that. I will be going back there instead of other places in Knoxville just to be able to have a very similar experience that I did the other night when I was there. Now to the restaurant itself it is set right on the river and has a beautiful view. So if you avoid chains, give this one a shot because the ambience is amazing in the bar area Oh, and people if you go to a place of this caliber, please dress apart and spare the football jersey lol read more

One of my favorite steak houses and location. What makes it my favorite location is that the restaurant sits off of the water! My very first time dinning here I sat outside on a warm summer night on the Fourth of July and man oh man it was breathtaking. It just so happens, I was in town visiting on my son's 21st birthday so I brought him here for his birthday dinner. I gave it 4 stars this time around for a few reasons, 1. My sons steak he ordered came out rare instead of medium rare. 2. The sides we ordered came out luke warm and they appeared to be smaller then normal. 3. Two people in my party ordered the stuff chicken and they were not portioned or stuffed equally (one was smaller then the other) 4. The service this night was meh, I felt the server could've been more attentive towards the end of our dining in. I will say this if you haven't tried the sea bass from here it's a MUST try!! (Thank me later) I wasn't in a steak mood this particular night and wanted to try something new. This was the first time I've had sea bass at a restaurant and became full! The cut was thick ,filling and seasoned well. Definitely recommend eating here. read more

We went to Ruth's Chris for our 14th wedding anniversary. They do a nice job of making your special day special. Meg was our server, and she did a very nice job of taking care of us. If you don't like male waiters, you might want to consider another restaurant. I've never seen so many male waiters in a restaurant. My wife had the 8oz filet and I had the stuffed double-breasted chicken. They were served on plates that were HOT! We shared au gratin potatoes and creamed spinach. Both were amazing. We are not big eaters, but I saw some amazing appetizers going by. The seafood tower is just amazing to see. My wife had a glass of the JLohr Pure and said it was excellent. I was driving, so I stuck with water. Everyone there is very nice and friendly, from the hostess to the servers. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want a special night out and an amazing meal! read more

3.75 stars The service and the atmosphere of the restaurant deserve 5 stars or more. Very nice relaxing dinner environment. Server Allison and assistant Justin were beyond great. My issue was with the food- and it's not really that big of an issue - as clearly the place is doing well- it's mostly something to note for those who may be unaware : I ordered a Ribeye steak (ordered medium rare - served rare) My wife ordered Filet (ordered medium well- served very well) My father in law and mother in law both ordered Sea bass - what all our meals had in common is that they are absolutely drenched in butter. Our side - the garlic mashed potatoes- drenched in butter. Everything had an overkill of butter There's truly no need to have a half inch of melted butter on every dish. For a total bill of over $500 there is better quality *tasting* meats and seafood for less of the price. If I go back I'll be sure to ask to not have a butter fountain on the meat and I'm sure that it would taste as good as it should for the quality cuts they say they have. This was our third time at this restaurant. We live elsewhere and take our daughter here when we are in town. The service and food were excellent. I live in an area where there are a lot of high end steak houses. It has been hit & miss here, including a 40th wedding anniversary dinner at Del Fresco's that was a disaster. Jacob was our server and he made the whole experience a plus. He made some great recommendations. My husband loved the sweet potato casserole, he wishes we could have it at our Thanksgiving dinner. I have to say that my steak was one of the best steaks I have ever had and like I said before I have eaten at some very high end places. The only down side was I got too full to eat it all but my daughter was lucky, she got the leftovers. The three times we have been there have been amazing and we will definitely come back next time we are in Knoxville. read more

The happy hour specials in the bar area are great if you want to enjoy sandwiches, appetizers and drinks without the formal sit down steak dinner. Ruth Chris' steaks are served on a sizzling platter in a pool of butter. Absolutely delicious. I prefer the filet mignon and you can add various seafood options on top of the steak. Wholly disappointed. I couldn't think of a more special way to celebrate my 11-yr-old steak-loving son's birthday March 15 than a wonderful dinner at Ruth's Chris. Unfortunately, I could never have imagined that so many things could go wrong at a restaurant of Ruth's Chris's reputation! Let me preface this review by saying the problem did not lie with our waiter, Jamison. He was excellent, but as he ran from table to table, he was woefully under supported by young men who seemed clueless and even unconcerned about serving customers. The dinner was nothing short of a disaster, from start to finish. To begin, there was a misunderstanding about how my filet was to be prepared. It should have been a simple fix, but instead--unbelievably--it required the approval of the maitre'd. By the time he was flagged down and the steak, still undercooked, was returned, not only were the side dishes cold, I realized there were no plates on which to serve them. Flagging down anyone had proven impossible--the common thread throughout the evening--so we resorted to heaping sides on top of steaks. How elegant. When it was time for dessert, our waiter launched into the standard complimentary birthday dessert offer, completely unaware I had given a cake to the the maitre'd upon arriving. As an alternative, he suggested ice cream to accompany the cake, great in theory, but not when delivered and consumed long before the cake arrived. When the cake ultimately arrived, it was simply left on our table, and, no surprise, without a knife to slice it nor plates. Our waiter ultimately returned ten minutes later to find we had given up waiting and had resorted to taking forks to the cake directly. By then, it had been well over 2 1/2 hours and the disappointed birthday boy had to get to bed. And, there were numerous other service imperfections completely surprising for a restaurant purported to be of high quality. Cutlery was whisked away quickly by one of the supporting staff and as there was no way to alert him or anyone, we were left without forks for the next course until several minutes later. Latte was delivered without a saucer. The staff managed to get two '11' candles on the cake, but not other candles I had provided. As a consequence, there were none to blow out--talk about a letdown for a young boy. Fleming's would have surpassed expectations--Knoxville's Ruth's Chris' failed miserably. read more

My best friend and I have been talking about going to Ruth's Chris together for a couple years. Our lives have been so busy that it hasn't been possible but we decided to take a short trip from Florida to Tennessee and on the way to our hotel he jokingly mentioned we should go to Ruth's Chris. So we went. We had just got off the airplane, didn't dress the best, and had rented a car and just stopped on in. It was a busy Friday night and they had mentioned that there was no seating available for 3.5 hours. They had mentioned the possibility of sitting outside but the heaters weren't on, or we could sit at the bar. The bar was unfortunately full and we had just traveled so instead of going elsewhere or waiting 3.5 hours we said we would sit outside. I don't believe the hostess thought we would agree to sitting outside because she ensured we knew their heaters weren't on, but we said we would like a patio table. Perhaps that was her way to hope we would just say never mind because after she had walked away and spoke with someone, they went outside, turned on the lights, turned on the heaters, put a cloth over the table and sat us. Had we known it was completely closed we wouldn't have made them do this and we felt bad as we hadn't realized the true status of the patio. We didn't mean to be a bother. We were brought water and bread, the bread being delicious. The waiter was very kind and attentive. I ordered a Ruth's Manhattan and it was very tasty. As for food, yes I know it's a steak house, however the stuffed chicken is truly amazing. The flavor is just perfect. As for sides we got the mashed potato's and the sweet potato casserole. The casserole was basically a dessert, it was so good and we cleaned it out. I recommend visiting this spot. To not look bad like me and my friend, make sure you have a reservation. Thank you to the staff for what they did, we didn't expect the heaters to be turned on for us, or that the patio was essentially not in any use and we were making you open it just for us. read more

Instead you chose to humiliated her multiple times with questions. Sent 2 managers over to interrogate her. Completely unacceptable. We won't be back.
