I loved how they pampered me as a mom by surprising me with a personal Mother's Day card waiting at the table. Our area of the dinning room was quiet and filled with families celebrating mothers. The feel of the room was elegant, which gave a sense of warmth. Our waiter made sure we enjoyed every dish. I love Ruth Christ ! And this was my first time at this location. It's conveniently located near one of the mall's parking decks and mall entrance. They had plenty of reservation time online and it was also as easy to modify the reservation. We got the stuffed chicken ( delicious ) my favorite side the sweet potato pecan casserole and mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts. The birthday dessert was good but not my favorite. I am severely disappointed by the service and atmosphere in this location. I had high expectations - attached to Short Hills Mall, kniwn for luxury. We came in for an early sunday dinner around 3:30 pm. Even though it was Father's Day, it wasn't busy yet. We sat at the bar. I went into the bathroom before sitting down. A worker was leaving as I entered. It was in complete disarray. Water and paper towels everywhere. One (out of 3) of the stalls was a disgusting mess. Once we were seated for about 5 minutes, a man asked my husband if he wanted a drink. Took his order and left without asking for mine. When a different man came back with my husband's drink, I was asked "want a drink?". No "hi, how are ya" - no personality or friendliness at all. I asked if they had mocktails. He said he could make me a Shirley temple - that was it. I got a plain seltzer. The same man returned and asked "want to order food?". The menu is nothing to write home about. There are very few options and none sound especially appetizing at their price point. $29 for 2 small crab cakes and a tablespoon of diced peppers thrown between them. $70 for a steak thrown on an appetizer sized plate, but my husband said it was cooked well. The mashed potatoes were pretty good. We had to ask for another round of drinks even though it was not busy and there were multiple people behind the bar. I will never step foot into another Ruth's Chris again. I've received better service at a Chilli's. At this price point, there are certain expectations that have to be met. The good- the steaks were prepared perfectly. Seasoned well and good sized portions for sides and appetizers. The not so good- the staff. From the front of house to the waiters it felt like nobody was invested in their job. Insincere replies to questions. For what is supposed to be a high end steakhouse the waitstaff seemed disinterested and apathetic. Was almost poured an open half bottle of wine that we ordered. With a table of 6 and a bill of close to $600 you would think more attention would be paid to the service and making it feel like a high end experience. Last note- they tell you the plates your steak is served on is 500 degrees and to be very careful to not touch it but they cram the tables so close together that the waiters are saying "corner" every time they pass by with those plates. Once upon a time, I'm sure Ruth's Chris was the place to go but I think it's time it updated a bit. I came here for a birthday dinner for my mother in law because she loves steak. We got a bit of everything, including the steak. Overall, I think the menu is a bit outdated as is the decor. The food was ok. As with all chains, we all know what to expect in terms of food quality. The steak was ok. The soup was good, the crab cakes were a bit disappointing. I will say the service was decent. The waitstaff was friendly and did a nice job. I'm familiar with the RC brand and today I had the pleasure of dining in the Short Hills location. Our server was Emilio and he was amazing. We were his first table on his first day in that capacity. We learned that he worked behind the scenes before. His glowing personality and smile made all the difference. He was very attentive to our needs and made sure everything was to our liking. My partner and I come here semi-frequently. What I will say is that every single time we have requested a booth, we haven't gotten one, even when the dining room is less than half full. We went on New Year's Eve (last night) and once again we were not offered a booth, which was incredibly puzzling because at 4:45 we were ushered through a predominantly empty main dining room, past at least 8 open booths and half booths that I scanned, into the back party room, and sat next to a table with two screaming kids who were running up and down the length of the room. My inherent issue isn't with the family at this table obviously, but with the immensely odd choice to put couples in the same back corner with the kids you obviously wanted to stuff away from the main dining room (especially when there were plenty of booths available as this was a very early seating). It doesn't matter if you call ahead of time and confirm booth availability, you apparently can't get one without pulling teeth. We would have been happy to wait, and mentioned the same in person, even though as I said, we confirmed a booth on the phone prior to arriving. The food is always good, however the osso bucco ravioli arrived room temperature, if not a little cool, and even though my partner and I both ordered medium rare filets, mine was slightly overcooked. I know there is a location in Paramus as well. Will more than likely be going there next time. read more

I took my mom here for Mothers Day. Overall everything was good. They had a very small Mother's Day brunch menu which I got one of the items. It was steak on top of a biscuit with creamed spinach and a poached egg with a chipotle sauce on top. It was really pretty good. The only thing was the steak was definitely under cooked. I asked for medium well and it was more like medium rare. I ate most of it anyway. The manager came over and I told him but I was almost done. He asked to remake it and I said no since I was almost finished and didn't want another one. I guess I expected at this price point he would have offered something else. I have been to Ruth's several times in my life long before Yelp. Most recently was in the days before COVID in Weehawken. Going there I wondered what the attraction was about. Not having meat in quite a while and seeing only 10 reviews for Ruth's (thinking it must be new) tilted the choice there, and I couldn't have been happier. This was the exact opposite of the experience I had in Weehawken. Yes, the place was new. It had only opened two months ago, but beyond that, everything about it was awesome. It seems reservations are highly recommended, but there were "as available" tables in the barroom that worked perfectly. The service was great. The Caesar salad to start was one of the better preparations I have had in a long time. Ordering a tomahawk for two worked out perfectly. It was done to perfection and was cut table side for a nice add to the experience as well. To make it even better, the dinner dishes came out hot with butter on them, which is something I do not believe I have seen before in a steakhouse. Yes, this, surprisingly, was a meal to remember. I've been to this location lots of times. I enjoy going to Ruth Chris. The one problem I've had with this location is every time I have ordered the bone in filet mignon and ask for it well done it's always came back cooked medium. I refuse to order it again here. The last time I ordered the Chilean sea bass here I had to send that back because it didn't taste fresh. My favorite things to order here is the Caesar salad, the 8 ounce filet mignon, lobster Mac and cheese, and the best side dish ever is the sweet potato casserole! For dessert I love the cheesecake! The chocolate cake here is too dry, and mediocre. The bread pudding isn't good at all. One thing disappointing is Ruth Chris only offers 4 desserts and only the cheesecake is worth ordering. Many years ago they had a lava cake that was amazing wish they brought it back. Service is usually really good, but tonight it was awful. We had a waiter who I believe was named Rodney he spoke so low you can hardly hear him. He was no where to be found every time we needed him. He spent entirely too much time talking to another table and not being attentive. He was polite, but he was too slow and inattentive to be a waiter. This place was packed when we arrived. It was valentine's day so we had a reservation and only had to wait a few minutes. The service was quick and friendly despite them being so busy. We ordered the blueberry mojito and a glass of red wine. I personally like my drinks sweet so I enjoyed the blueberry mojito. The wine was good as well and paired well with the steak. We ordered the seared ahi tuna to start, which was good - not the best I've had but good enough. It came with a small side of ginger and pickled cucumber which I enjoyed and added nicely to the dish. For our steaks, we got the petit filet and the ribeye. Mine came out medium rare when I ordered medium, and my partner's came out medium when he ordered it medium rare. We weren't too upset by this because we understood it was busy and this probably wouldn't have happened if it was a regular day. Despite this, the steaks still came out delicious. The staff was very understanding and allowed a relatively good amount of time to decide. Once we received our main course, we had to be careful as the plates were very hot. Nevertheless, the filet mignon was seasoned and cooked to perfection.
