I came here for some lunch, during a work day. The place wasn't crowded and I was able to get a seat right away. I just had a quick meal here, but it was very good. I went with the Buffalo chicken wrap with sweet potato fries. The order came out fast, and I was very satisfied. Everything tasted great. The Buffalo sauce had a nice kick to it, and it was a delicious wrap. I will be back here to try out some other lunch dishes for sure. read more

I order from here regularly! I have placed some very large take out orders and they have not messed them up!!! I love the veggie burger from here. I sometimes get it will a lettuce wrap instead of the bun. Each month they have a new 'smash burger of the month' and they can substitute the veggie patty. They have their outdoor tables out! However, when I ate outside last week it's the same issue I had last spring/ summer- they forget to give you silverware so you end up waiting once your food is served. Nice place. Gives me that after work type feeling place. That social, friendly atmospheric type place. The menu has good choices to select from. Nothing really out of the usual. But what they do. They do right. The staff was good. You can tell the wait staff looked out for each other, which keeps the customers attended to. I had the turkey club and it was really good. They weren't stingy with the meat either. Fresh and filling. The chicken quesadillas my friend had was good. More cheese than chicken, good. This is a nice place to stop in if you are walking around this busy area and want to stop for a bite. Parking on the street is nearly impossible at any time. But there's a parking lot nearby you can park in. Overall, it was a good choice to have lunch at. read more

I stopped in for lunch at 54 Main and sat at the bar. The bartender promptly asked if I wanted a beer and handed me a printed beer list -- just a plain sheet of paper, not laminated. While there were about 30 beers listed, they weren't grouped by type or even alphabetized. The un-alphabetized list made it harder than it needed to be to find something. I would strongly suggest to them, If you are not going to GROUP YOUR BEERS BY TYPE, ALPHABETIZE them to make it REALLY EASY FOR A CUSTOMER TO SELECT. I asked for a Sam Adams, but they didn't have the Boston Lager. Then I asked for a Stella, which they were also out of. So, I settled for water with lemon. Unfortunately, it was served in a worn-looking plastic diner-style glass filled to the brim. When I squeezed the lemon and dropped it in, water spilled onto the bar. The bartender returned to take my order but didn't seem to notice or acknowledge the spill. I ordered the "Burger of the Month," which was supposed to come with jalapeño jam. I watched the kitchen try to deliver my burger to two different people before it finally made its way to me. The burger itself was bland--surprisingly so, considering it was supposed to feature jalapeño jam. The burger was delivered with no silverware or even a Napkin. Instead, I had to lean over the bar to grab a napkin myself ( a napkin to clean up the water spill, and one for my meal). There was no follow-up or check-in from the bartender or any staff during my meal. FYI, I noticed other patrons food delivered with out napkins or silverware. I was passing through on the way to see a friend in Morristown when I stopped by this place. It was 98degrees outside but the inside was as cool as the other side of the pillow. Had a lobster roll which was delish and a taco that was super tasty. Washed it down with a cold draft beer from the tap. Friendly atmosphere and very attentive service. Calamari so greasy and fishy it was inedible, served on a sad bed of wilted lettuce. A chopped salad with no dressing and chicken that was lukewarm at best. Dessert showed up swimming in a puddle of melted ice cream -- like it had been sitting around for 20 minutes. When I complained, the manager shrugged it off with a pathetic 10% discount, no apology. My second time coming here. The first time I came with my sister and ordered the hummus platter and pork belly tacos. Those were phenomenal. The hummus platter was perfect for warm weather and those pork belly tacos. I'm still dreaming about them. I also had the summer spritz which was refreshing! Our server was the sweetest and made sure we were OK and if we needed anything. Outdoor seating recommended! I came here today with three girlfriends for brunch. We had the same server I had last time, and still super sweet! (I'd give her a 5 stars if just rating her service to us!) we got there a little after opening, and we were told they didn't have pancakes and then after ordering were told they didn't have chilaquiles either so we had to reorder - which was fine but confused because we were told they weren't serving them anymore? Madison is one of my favorite Jersey towns and we happened to be here on a Saturday afternoon. With some time to kill, my wife and I stopped in at 54 Main and ordered drinks at the bar. There's a nice beer selection and plenty of TV's providing a fun atmosphere. We decided to stick around and ordered the nachos appetizer which was delicious. We'd definitely stop back here. I wondered why this place wasn't more crowded during a Sunday lunch. Once we sat down, the answer quickly (or maybe not so quickly) became apparent. We sat at a high top in the bar area, which had a few other families seated. Our menus came after about 10 minutes. Then...nothing, for at least 20 minutes. I got up to ask the server of the table next to us if she could send someone over, and she snapped at me to "give me a few minutes." Okay, fine. After another 10 minutes, she passed right by our table to go talk to another family at a nearby table. Didn't even look our way. We left. Busy is one thing, but poor, rude service is another. This restaurant is nestled in the heart of Madison's downtown. Parking seems to be limited to street parking. I ordered the chipotle, barbecue burger, and it definitely had quite a kick. I can tolerate mild spice, but this one was a little overwhelming. The fries had a little too much salt. The French onion soup was outstanding. The current state of this place is getting better, but needs time and additional staff. My experience here for the first time was not that good. I visited this lace for dinner with some friends and they had a nice set up. We sat outside and our waitress took our drink order. A few minutes passed and we received our drinks and placed our order. It took some tome , but appetizers came out. We did not get any utensils so I had to go in to get some. After this we waited a pretty long tome to get our entre (which was mediocre at best. Fries were good, but the one thing we had not seen in over an hour was our waitress. Additionally none of the other wait staff came to check on us. This quick meal took more than 2 hours and we felt that the staff just forgot about us. Some were too enthralled by a woman and her cute dog. The drinks were awesome and a must get when you visit. The foo itself is okay and your typical bar food. Nachos are also great. The pierogis and steak could be better. Apparently our waitress had left earlier that evening and nobody replaced her despite her having us as a table. I was pretty impressed with the drinks, but not too impressed with the help. It is understandable that many places are short staffed, but to just leave a table in the middle of serving and not tell anyone is ridiculous. This is a great place to go to with excellent drinks, but my first experience here wasn't too good. Been coming here for 18 years and have seen ups and down with the food at 54 but unfortunately in a big down period. Not sure when the chef changed but last night we had 4 out of 5 not great meals - 2 burgers with soggy buns, no garnish and smushed down. A bar pie undercooked and with too much cheese and dry dumplings with no sauce. Nachos were great as was the service but unfortunately we all agreed 54 Main back to just being a bar for us where maybe we get an app or two at a high table when watching a game. Going to guess the chef left and they promoted someone in the kitchen but it's not working. Will still come to watch games as it is our local but no dinners till things change. read more

It's been a few years since we were here but we finally revisited tonight and I am sad to say this place has gone downhill substantially. I know inflation is real but today we ordered a $15 appetizer of Philly Cheesesteak rolls and received 3 very small spring roll sized rolls, making them $5 each(!!!). Pretty outrageous. Message to Management - Something has changed here in the last year or so. The food & beverages are not the same quality. I used to be a weekly diner for the last 6 years. The food is just so, so bad. Had gone several times because it's one of the only options in downtown Madison for something casual. Each time we hoped the food wouldn't be as bad as we remembered but finally after the last time, will never go back again. Just imagine that every single dish has something bad about it. This time, the french fries were disgusting - stale, freezer burned, and hollow inside. Can't even do french fries! Don't be fooled by the fact that it gets crowded at times, has some good reviews, and the photos of the food make it look somewhat okay - it's literally the only place in town with large outdoor seating and a big sports bar type menu. We barely took a bite and magically had 3 staff hovering over us asking how everything came out...then again server went MIA... so we finally flagged another one down and requested 2 waters with lemon. It was not our server and she wasn't thrilled with our request. But it was warm out and our food was spicy...we needed a glass of water. (We had adult beverages) *Shocker* water came but no lemon. Not a big deal but with everything it was more of an irritant. Then we decided it was just time to go. We asked for the check. We each had one beverage and one dish. Our bill was almost $100!! We paid on the handheld card swiper and then sat there finishing our drinks and wondering what in the world we just paid for... Long story longer- we waited to find someone we could asked for a copy of the receipt. Again we waited...finally asked someone who looked like a manager. Then he vanished. Then Another man asked if we were ok. We explained. He ran in and found the server. Got the receipt and sure enough the bill was wrong. They had added desserts we never ordered. They refunded us for the dessert but kept the same tip amount. We waited another 40 minutes for our food. My food was never made, but I was told several times he'd be over with it in 1 minute. 20 minutes later I still had no food! I mean call me crazy, but I guess she would expect the chicken to be honey mustard chicken? Yesterday, Friday March 14th I had an unusually unpleasant lunch experience at 54 Main -- this by the way following a somewhat disappointing experience the prior Monday with a bartender who was more busy eating her own food then tending to the bar. I politely expressed some disappointment to find out that the regular bartender was"no longer with us" said who I think was the manager after he had to bring us cutlery and plates because the food came out and sat there until I could get his attention and we could get some utensils to eat with. By the way, the food was cold. The bartender was clearly overwhelmed by the seven customers she had to serve. Took us a good 10 minutes to get a glass of chardonay and a bottle of bud. The manager, after he took our food back to the kitchen, rudely said I was angry because the regular was gone. I don't know what the Iossas are thinking. They clearly cleaned house here but it doesn't seem to be for the better -- begining with the rude, nasty manager. We've never been to Madison or this place. We were there for our son's swim meet where they didn't allow spectators so we had to find something to do. We picked this place on a whim because we didn't know where else to go on a Sunday & it was freezing. Frankly, it also seemed like we may have actually fallen into a DeLorean-esque time warp so we didn't want to venture too far. As an aside, why two travel agencies on one block? People still use travel agencies? But I digress. We walked in and this is the only reason I'm knocking a star. We are still in the middle of a global pandemic, there's a huge uptick in cases and hospitals are overrun. We were the only people wearing masks, except one hostess. The bar area, which is quite large, was fairly packed, and literally not one person had a mask on. I felt like I could see the red covid balls hopping from person to person. We asked to sit in the dining room where there were booths that were somewhat spaced. And it was early, like 4:30p, so there weren't many people in there. I didn't know if I could trust a bar with salmon, so I ordered what was labeled a new menu item, the pappardelle bolognese. I figured if it was new, how bad could it be? I also asked my server for bread. She said she didn't know if they had bread, which wasn't a good sign, but I thought she said she'd see if they had breadsticks. So I wasn't anticipating anything great. However, to my pleasant surprise, she returned with a plate of not just bread, but like, garlic toasted bread. And a good amount of it too. It didn't seem like she just rustled something up from behind a counter somewhere. It was legit, really good, warm toasty bread. Now, if you're going to put an Italian dish on the menu, this is exactly the kind of bread that belongs with it. Anyone that knows me, knows I pretty much judge a place by the bread so I was hoping the food was going to be right up there with the bread. My pasta came and it was fantastic. Fan-tastic. The menu stated that it had Parmesan on it and I don't even really like Parmesan but it was perfect. It was a pretty large portion too. I didn't get any appetizer besides the bread and I'd say I ate a little over a third of it. I brought the rest home. I couldn't wait to eat the rest of it today. It's the perfect comfort food, especially in this cold disgusting weather. I will say I didn't get an appetizer because I would've liked a small side salad and they only had bigger salads that were more like an entree. You don't get a soup or salad deal with an entree like I got so if you don't want a typical bar type appetizer there's no just "small salad". I guess I could've asked but we kind of thrown by the mask thing and I didn't want to be in there any longer than we had to be. At our local bar/grille like that, you get an entree, you get a small soup or salad with it, so I just expect a side salad to be a choice when you order an entree. But I didn't really need it. And really, by not offering that, the trade off is that is probably how they keep their costs down. My husband got steak tacos. He said he wasn't even hungry and he ate them all. So I'm going to assume he thought they were pretty darn good too. The portion was pretty liberal too because he said he thought it would be a lot smaller. We also thought that overall it was a really good value for the money. We have gotten walloped with some really big restaurant bills lately where the food was pretty mediocre and the portions were small. This was definitely a nice reprieve from that. We're just hoping we didn't catch a side of covid on the way in or out. read more

It's a local bar in Madison. If you drive fast you will miss it. They have street parking but I was lucky and got a spot out front. I came in and sat at the bar. They have a good beer list but I opted for an old fashion and it was perfect. I was super hungry and got the salmon burger with the spicy aioli on the side. I was right about the spicy aioli, I feel like it would've overpowered the burger. The only thing is my ketchup bottle was dropped dry but other than that I was great.
