There's something delightful about shaking the warm fried dough in powdered sugar right at your table. We went here for brunch on Valentine's Day. Very cool place. The food was amazing. And the beignets were phenomenal. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star is because of service. One server would have been fine for how busy they weren't but we were not checked on after they brought out our food so we went a long time without drink refills. I don't think our server had been serving for long. Also there seems to be no back door as trash and supplies were carted through the dining room and out the front door. read more

Creole and Cajun are two of my favorite cuisines, so when I heard Ruth's Creole Kitchen had opened I had to give it a try. I enjoyed my first visit so much that I went back two days later. And I'm returning again soon because I've yet to try the gumbo or jambalaya. You see, the first thing I usually order when visiting a new Creole restaurant is the gumbo. If they make a good gumbo, everything else is probably going to be good as well. But the daily special was crawfish and shrimp étouffée. I love me some étouffée. If it were on the regular menu, I would have started with the gumbo. Since it wasn't, there was no way I could pass up the étouffée. That was a wise choice, as it's one of the best étouffées I've had. The reddish brown roux was great. Some might find it a bit salty, but it was perfect for my tastes. There was plenty of crawfish and shrimp; neither was the least bit rubbery. It wasn't a large portion, but I came away fully satiated. On my next visit, I found they were already out of their seafood gumbo so I ordered the muffuletta. Unlike the muffuletta from Central Grocery in New Orleans, this has an olive chutney rather than a tapenade so it's not quite as "olivey" but it has a pleasing touch of heat. It lacks the mortadella and Swiss cheese, but the ham, salami and provolone are top notch. I like that it's not as heavy. That said, the bun doesn't do the rest of the sandwich justice. If I order it again, I'll ask if they can use their ciabatta bread. The staff is absolutely wonderful. Considering the service and the food, I can see why they are already making plans to expand their seating area. read more

My wife and I finally tried Ruth's on Friday night. We kicked things off with the mini crab cakes--and wow. Small but packed with flavor, they're now our favorite crab cakes in town. A jazz band started playing while we ate. I was worried about the noise, but it was just right, setting a perfect New Orleans mood. We also dug into the red beans and rice, jambalaya, and the blackened chicken sandwich. Chef Reuben came out to introduce himself--warm, welcoming, and clearly proud of his craft. He named the place after his mom, who taught him to cook back in the 9th Ward. The blackened chicken sandwich is a must-order. He takes his time with it, and it shows--every bite is perfect. Next time, we might just come for beignets, bread pudding, or bananas foster with coffee. Ruth's is absolutely worth a visit. read more

We landed in Ruth's after an evening bike ride and were not disappointed! The interior is nicely done and a wonderful tribute to the owners late mother, Ruth displayed. I ordered the Seafood gumbo and it was amazing! Perfect amount of Louisiana spice and flavor. My husband ordered the wings and he said he has to get them every time now. We went BACK the next week after our bike ride and I ordered the gumbo again without disappointment! We also tried the crab bisque which is the best I've ever had. There are days when I miss the Mother Swamp, and for those days now there is Ruth's. We gave it a shot because I miss being home in Belle Chasse (West Bank yall). My husband ordered their breakfast sampler and said "the potatoes melt like butter and the sausage was divine." I had a Nawlins staple - a muffleta and it was everything I needed today. The service was impeccable: knowledgeable, kind, and on point. You forget you're sitting on 23rd Street once you're inside: complete with the R&B of yesteryear that reminds me of humid nights on the bayou. 10/10 would recommend, and we will be back. So after seeing the YouTube video, and the Google reviews, I'd figure I'd spend my birthday trying a new restaurant and took the family down to Ruth's Creole Kitchen. Upon entering, we found out that Ruth's can't accommodate large (8 people) parties. Seems that when they make room for a band to play, they remove a lot of tables and that cuts down on how many people they can seat. We should have said then another time but we went ahead and soldiered on. After about a 15 minute wait for out table we sat and waited for service. The menus they gave out where the same thing on the website, so the menu is VERY limited, meaning if nothing on the website tickles your fancy, then don't bother coming. There are no drink menus or listing of non alcoholic beverages (which should be at every table so you don't have to guess?) but we managed through the loudness of the band to get drinks ordered. The kitchen we were told was backed up and the food would take a while. Smaller tables of one or two people were getting their food delivered, and after one hour, we finally started to see one plate delivered to our table. Then another one plate..... Then another single plate? All the food should be sent out at the same time, not one person at a time? So what going on there....? When the food arrived, we were disappointed. The red beans and rice was ice cold ( they used cold white rice to mix in with the red beans and then having it sit obviously caused it to cool down). The Jambalya had chunks of chicken that was overcooked. The Seafood pasta had shrimp and crawfish that was overcooked and hard. The Spicy shrimp Creole rice was spicy, but again the shrimp was overcooked. The hot ham and cheese wasn't much better than could be made at home, and the salads were average. Our waitress was very nice, and we hope that the kitchen gets its act together and they figure out how to get food out to the tables consistently, cooked correctly and together to tables at the same time. A food expediter and front off the house manager is definitely needed here (seasoned ones) that could help take this restaurant to being....well, a restaurant. Tip: Place little cards at the table that say on one side "we serve Coke Products and Water." On the other side list your five top drinks you serve and a selection of your wines. At least three of us at the table would've ordered wine, but without knowing what type of wine you have., it left money not being spent. read more

In NOLA, if you make your way to City Park or the Square and stop by Cafe Du Monde, getting beignets fresh from the fryer is luck of the draw. In OKC, at Ruth's Creole Kitchen on NW 23rd St., you're gonna get 'em fresh and hot, loaded with powdered sugar in a paper bag. Our waiter Christopher not only dropped them in the grease when we ordered, but brewed us a fantastic pot of coffee. And that was just the end of a wonderful experience. You should hear people go on about the bread pudding and the bananas foster. It takes more than one trip to sample the offerings at Ruth's, and they have plans for the future. They're growing 'cause they're good. We were celebrating, so we loaded up with crab cakes, which were 90 percent crab with a zesty remoulade sauce, and a cup of the richest and tastiest crab bisque we've ever had. Entrees were a dense and spicy shrimp & crawdad etouffee loaded with flavor, and a lobster mac n' cheese, which was lobster plus seafood in a creamy cheese sauce beyond expectation. We washed all this down with sangrias, but the menus had a nice variety of sodas, beers, and wines. By the time the beignets appeared, we were complete converts. The atmosphere was comfortable and welcoming, the decor touched with memories of the old city and Ruben's past, and everything had the feel of honest passion and hospitality. Ruben, the owner and chef, was good enough to stop by the table and chat. He, as well as the members of the crew and waitstaff, all made us feel like family. We're regulars now, bought and sold. You should give Ruth's Creole Kitchen a try. You might find yourself deciding you're a regular as well. read more

Just picked up a to go order from Ruth's Creole Kitchen and I am impressed! First off, the service was great (even for a to go order). I got my questions answered and was offered a water while I waited. I ordered the French Quarter chicken wrap and instead of the chips I got their seafood gumbo. The wrap is both filling and flavorful! It was also piping hot even when I got back to the office to eat it so I know it was made fresh. The gumbo is also delicious! Nice portion size and it comes with rice. I will be ordering here again, for sure (and soon)! read more
