The teepees are tastefully decorated & roomy, the beds are comfy with electric blankets w/ dual settings, the staff & service were great, breakfast was filling & yummy. As for price value, if you are okay w/ trudging outside to tinkle in your private outhouse during the middle of night, while paying WELL over $150 for bed & breakfast, then you are a braver Camper than me :-)

Don't misunderstand that to mean a 4-star hotel! It is not.  There are several restaurants and shops within walking distance, though since many of them are across the "highway," you either have to walk a fair distance to reach a legal crosswalk, or take your chances that the Grandview police aren't looking for revenue by way of jay-walkers.  Both times I've stayed here, I've done a thorough check for bed bugs immediately upon entry, and not found any! Yay! More about the beds later...  The rooms are old and dingy, but seem to be clean. Though I could smell old, stale cigarette smoke when I first opened the door, it was almost immediately replaced with a much cleaner, very pleasant scent.  I have no idea if they have different sized beds or rooms, but both times I've stayed there, I had a pretty large room with a queen sized bed, a full sized bath, and a fridge and microwave. One of the two times, there was a quirky tiny stove/sink combo that was part of the fridge. The fridge and freezer worked perfectly, and the fridge part was larger than average for a motel room. The sink part of the concoction worked, but the stovetop was missing the coils. I don't know if it would have worked otherwise. The indicators light up when you turn the knobs. In this room (16), there's a small table with 2 padded chairs and a lamp. The TV sits on a long, low bureau that has 4 large drawers and a lamp. On one side of the bed is a night stand with 2 large drawers and a lamp. I don't recall the setup from the previous room. Also, there are power outlets, but for AC only. If you have devices requiring USB power, you'll need to bring a plug for that. They come with relatively small, but nice enough flat-screen TVs with cable. The remotes have had some issues getting the TVs to turn on, but once I turned the TV on manually, the remote mostly worked fine after that. Not always. Not sure what the issue is. They offer Wifi. I don't recall if I had any issues with it the last time I was here, but I haven't had any issues this time. Works perfectly.  They have in-wall heater/AC units. They are fairly noisy, but I like it that way. It's like built-in white noise. Helpful considering this place sits directly on Wine Country Road. In room 16, there doesn't seem to be a problem with the curtain length/placement, but in room 14, the way the air blows from the unit blows the curtains all over the place. I had to clamp them down with some clamps I happened to have with me that stay, or else those outside would have seen far more of me than they'd like!  The bathtub is a fairly decent size. Not large, but large enough to take a bath in. The water pressure is very good, but unfortunately the shower nozzle sprayer isn't adjustable, and it doesn't really provide an adequate stream with the built-in spray pattern. They would do well to replace the shower heads with newer ones - preferably even handheld ones. They do provide a small bath towel, hand towel, and washcloth, and a floor towel/mat. I would feel a lot more comfortable if they went the extra mile and bought enclosed mattress covers that protect against bed bugs, dust mites, etc... most h/motels these days are using those. This place actually doesn't even use fitted sheets. Just a large flat sheet that is tucked in. Their pillows are comfortable, but stained, and it's kind of gross. I wish those, too, were in zippered cases. I think it's a bit odd that they haven't ponied up to at least buy fitted sheets. Those aren't very expensive, and would go a long way toward the rooms seeming cleaner and more professional, even if it is just a cheap motel room. Little touches still matter.  There isn't, in fact, a swimming pool. There used to be, but it is overgrown now, and has been for as long as I've been patronizing this weird little town.  Their Vacancy sign isn't always truthful. I called one morning because it said there was a vacancy. I'm a night driver, and I needed to get to sleep. I hoped they would allow me to check-in early. But they said they didn't have any rooms available until that night. I said the Vacancy sign was lit, and they said "Yes, it will be vacant later!" It's probably a good idea to call ahead anyway. It is a friendly, family-run business, and I'm pretty sure they live on-site. Sometimes, they're out. If you call ahead, they can arrange to be here when you arrive, or at least tell you when they will be here. If you're a trucker with only a bobtail, they might accommodate you. There are a couple of places they'll allow you to part your bobtail if you're staying here. That was the first reason I ever stayed here, so they won a customer that way!  This isn't a fancy place, so please don't give a crappy review for it not being a nicer place. It's inexpensive and clean. Sometimes, that's all you need!

The bedding was top notch, the bed exceptionally comfortable, and the standard of room and property maintenance could not be faulted. Doug the owner...a senior with a youthful attitude, could not have been more approachable, kind and generous. His vineyard recommendations were spot on. He even loaned us a season pass to a concert at one of them. Above and beyond our expectations!

Fast forward 20 years and we had the opportunity to come out here for a restaurant week special. Brad, the owner, is a huge proponent of the culinary scene in town and was one of the first people to sign up for the inaugural Yakima Valley restaurant week and as such we obviously had to check it out again! Birchfield manor, as the name implies, is indeed a large home. It's got a relatively large dining area downstairs that encompasses a couple of rooms. It holds roughly 30 people and there are a number of bed-and-breakfast type rooms upstairs as well as in an accompanying facility next-door. The place feels much more out in the country than it actually is. It's about five minutes from the freeway and literally three blocks from a bale breaker's brewery! For the restaurant week festivities, they put on a special $25 per person, three-course dinner. It was downright amazing! Brad is an incredibly talented chef and really showcased his talents this evening. We had six at our table so we ended up sampling a bit of everything. The wine list is solid and highlighted a lot of local wines with the remained being from Washington state. Bravo! It started off with some delicious bread and probably the best butter that any of us have ever experienced. It's rare that I am significantly impressed by butter, but they definitely did it here. It had some really nice herbs in it and reset alongside some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread was a combination of freshly baked loves and some cheddar biscuits. Definitely ate a lot more bread than we should've! The Grilled bread salad was magnificent. Tomatoes, lovely greens, mozzarella and grilled croutons made it one of the more memorable salads I've ever had. For the main course, our table basically passed around the different dishes that were available. They included a Lamb Bolognaise, A steak Diane and the signature dish - King Salmon en Croute. All of them were absolutely delicious. The steak Diane was particularly good. The sauce was really nice and the meet was done just perfectly. It takes a lot to impress us with steak, but they definitely did it here. The salmon dish was also particularly good. It was basically a king salmon fillet in a puff pastry with a Yakima Chardonnay sauce. The accoutrements were elegantly done and included some sautéed vegetables, cylindrical couscous and some very nice zucchini with tomatoes on top. The presentation was wonderful and everything was good enough to share or keep to yourself, whatever your pleasure! For dessert, a delicious double chocolate cake was the initial delight with the fabled chocolate swan making rounds to finish the night! It was all a perfect ending to a great evening. By the end of the night we were impressed with the food, drink, decor and the service- hard to not love everything they're doing here! We'll be back for an occasion other than restaurant week, soon!

If you are looking for a break from pretentious winerys this place is for you! Paul is highly knowledgeable and doesn't gatekeep. All of their wines are formulated to be food friendly. As if the couple who own it wasn't sweet enough, they also support several causes. There is no tasting fee and their wines are very reasonably priced.
