Birchfield manor is a place that we rarely went to growing up. It's always been an upper tier place and aside from weddings or special occasions, we didn't go out there very often. Fast forward 20 years and we had the opportunity to come out here for a restaurant week special. Brad, the owner, is a huge proponent of the culinary scene in town and was one of the first people to sign up for the inaugural Yakima Valley restaurant week and as such we obviously had to check it out again! Birchfield manor, as the name implies, is indeed a large home. It's got a relatively large dining area downstairs that encompasses a couple of rooms. It holds roughly 30 people and there are a number of bed-and-breakfast type rooms upstairs as well as in an accompanying facility next-door. The place feels much more out in the country than it actually is. It's about five minutes from the freeway and literally three blocks from a bale breaker's brewery! For the restaurant week festivities, they put on a special $25 per person, three-course dinner. It was downright amazing! Brad is an incredibly talented chef and really showcased his talents this evening. We had six at our table so we ended up sampling a bit of everything. The wine list is solid and highlighted a lot of local wines with the remained being from Washington state. Bravo! It started off with some delicious bread and probably the best butter that any of us have ever experienced. It's rare that I am significantly impressed by butter, but they definitely did it here. It had some really nice herbs in it and reset alongside some olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The bread was a combination of freshly baked loves and some cheddar biscuits. Definitely ate a lot more bread than we should've! The Grilled bread salad was magnificent. Tomatoes, lovely greens, mozzarella and grilled croutons made it one of the more memorable salads I've ever had. For the main course, our table basically passed around the different dishes that were available. They included a Lamb Bolognaise, A steak Diane and the signature dish - King Salmon en Croute. All of them were absolutely delicious. The steak Diane was particularly good. The sauce was really nice and the meet was done just perfectly. It takes a lot to impress us with steak, but they definitely did it here. The salmon dish was also particularly good. It was basically a king salmon fillet in a puff pastry with a Yakima Chardonnay sauce. The accoutrements were elegantly done and included some sautéed vegetables, cylindrical couscous and some very nice zucchini with tomatoes on top. The presentation was wonderful and everything was good enough to share or keep to yourself, whatever your pleasure! For dessert, a delicious double chocolate cake was the initial delight with the fabled chocolate swan making rounds to finish the night! It was all a perfect ending to a great evening. By the end of the night we were impressed with the food, drink, decor and the service- hard to not love everything they're doing here! We stayed at the Inn last weekend. The King room we had was large and nice. Microwave, small fridge, and sink... Large jetted tub for two. Private balcony (we were upstairs) with a nice view. The grounds are very nice and good for walking around. There's a pond, and we were able to use the pool. We were able to bring our puppy too, and he was welcome around the property. The staff was very nice and accommodating. The restaurant was not open, but included in the price of the room was a very nice hand made breakfast each morning, delivered to the room! We had a great time and would DEFINITELY stay here again!! Highly recommended. read more

There aren't enough stars! If you are planning a trip to Yakima Valley, you absolutely must spend at least one night at the Manor, if not more! Amenities such as the in-room jacuzzi, pool, on site restaurant, and option for complimentary breakfast to be served up to the room in the morning took our trip to the next level. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel right at home. They went over and beyond to keep our room clean, and get us anything we needed. The owner is even on a texting basis with all of the guests and will personally attend to any concerns you may have. Birchfield Manor is considered a Luxury Bed and Breakfast. If you enjoy the coziness and personality of an AirBnb or Bnb, but want the luxuries most hotels have to offer, this is the best of both worlds. Plus, its tucked away in the valley so you won't feel like you are staying right in Yakima. This doesn't mean its far away - its only about 7-10 minutes from town, and 10-20 minutes from some fabulous wineries and breweries. Dinner at the Manor was intimate and incredibly delicious. 5 courses - farm to table - each dish imagined and created by award winning Chef and owner of the Manor, Brad Masset. Dinner is served every night at 7pm, and the menu comes at a flat rate of $49.99 to $64.99, depending on your choice of protein. We opted for the duck & filet mignon, and they did not disappoint. We easily would expect to pay triple if not quadruple for the same quality of meal in Seattle, so this was a treat, and we will definitely be back! Brad grew up on the property and now continues the family legacy. He has worked diligently to update and expand the manor so that it fits the needs of his different guests - those who may have stayed here 30 years ago and want a reminiscent experience as well as those who may expect modern updates. If you want a more traditional room, you would want to stay in the main house. If you want a more modern feel, you want to stay in the adjacent inn. Ate dinner here and the food was absolutely amazing. Even the salad portion was something to rave about. Some of the stuff that came out I never had before so it was fun to try new things. Located in hop country, you'll find an incredible restaurant in a beautiful old house. On this particular night, we came to Birchfield Manor as part of Yakima Valley Restaurant Week! Rather than the standard 5 course meal, this was a 3 course meal. Staff graciously met us at the door and sat us down with our group. The servers all do a GREAT job being attentive to small details. Water was never empty, wine glasses stayed full, and staff was always around to help - but not bothersome. For the first course, we had a delicious grilled bread salad. It's almost hard to eat something that looks so pretty, but I managed to muster the courage and demolish it! The dressing was fantastic - to the point that I ate the tomatoes on the plate....and I don't like tomatoes! For the main course, I opted to have the Lamb Bolognese. It was flavorful and an excellent portion. Well seasoned and definitely something I would recommend ordering! My better half opted for the Steak Diane. It was first class! Cooked medium rare (is there any other way to have a steak?) with mushrooms and a brandy sauce! Couldn't be done any better! Our friends had the Salmon en croucet. The owner told us this has been a Birchfield signature dish since the 1970's.....and it's easy to understand why! Perfectly moist salmon inside flaky puff pastry. If you like salmon, order this dish! You won't be disappointed. For desert, Birchfield continued to blow us away! The cake was light but decadent. Crowned with a chocolate "B" (for Birchfield), I finished this and wanted to lick the plate below it! After the cake, the magic chocolate swan was carried around and homemade chocolates were given to each guest. A perfect way to end the night! If you're looking for a special place to relax and celebrate, there aren't many better options ANYWHERE! Restaurant Review: We were staying at Birchfield Manor for the weekend and saw the menu for the restaurant posted upstairs. It looked delicious, but also pricey, so we were a little hesitant. We were here celebrating our 10 year anniversary, so we decided to splurge and give it a try Saturday night. I am so glad we did! They were able to accommodate us on very short notice and we were able to be seated down in the wine cellar. I would HIGHLY recommend asking to be seated in the cellar. It is truly a dining experience like no other. It was so romantic and we were able to savor our food to the fullest. The first course was a duck and onion confit over grilled polenta and it was out of this world! I have never tasted anything so delicious. The melding of textures and flavors were just outstanding! It was SO good, I asked our server if I could have another course of this instead of a dessert. He checked with the chef, and he was happy to oblige. For the main course, I had the prawn cakes and my husband had the puff pastry wrapped salmon. They were both wonderful as well. Cooked perfectly and the sauce pulled all the flavors together. The service was also outstanding. It is rare to find professional servers who know what they are doing and how to treat guests. If you are in Yakima and are looking for fine dining, Birchfield is definitely the place. The food is spectacular, the setting is romantic, and the service is top notch. We hope to be back someday! Bed & Breakfast Review: My husband and I were coming to WA Wine Country to celebrate our 10 year anniversary, which happened to coincide with the Red Wine & Chocolate weekend. My husband found Birchfield Manor and I am so thankful he did. We have never stayed at a B&B before, and it was such a wonderful experience. It's a great location to visit the beautiful wineries in Zillah. We arrived late on Friday and were greeted by Tim who checked us into our room. We stayed in the Anne which was decent size and had a nice whirlpool tub. Tim asked us what time we would like him to deliver breakfast in the morning. Now, that was such a treat! We had breakfast delivered at 10am every morning and it was so perfect to be able to eat in the comfort of our room. And the food was great too - Chef's choice, but everything tasted good. My favorite was the tenderloin hash! All of the staff we interacted with were so genuine and inviting. They always did whatever they could to make us feel at home. Others in the hospitality industry should take note! Birchfield is doing it right. Our room was nicely updated, but still had that antique charm of a 1910 manor. It was great to have a whirlpool tub and bench seats in the window to enjoy our breakfast. The bedding could have been more substantial as it was quite cold during the night. Having bath robes and bottled water available was a nice touch. My only complaint was the shower. Upon waking our first morning and needing to shower, I noticed mold growing at the bottom of the shower. It wasn't just a little mold here and there, it was pretty significant. I don't mind an old shower, or one that has a few cracked tiles, or even one that doesn't have great water pressure, but mold growing in the shower is just unaccetable. I really hope they can resolve this issue for future guests. I was extremely surprised to find mold in the shower, because everything else in the room was very clean. The whirlpool tub was clean, so I just used that the rest of our stay. Aside from the shower issue, we had a wonderful stay at Birchfield. We wanted to get away from a traditional hotel and try the B&B experience, and I am glad we did. We hope to be back some day in the future! read more

I didn't want to write this review - I just wanted to forget the bad experience - but once I was overcharged for our stay (Price quoted was $159 and the price charged was $175) and insult was added to injury, I changed my mind. We chose the Sunrise Room based on the following description: "This ground floor room, Extensively updated in 2018, comes complete with a furnished deck offering views of the of the valley and pond. Amenities include 1 luxurious king bed, luxury linens, and property wide wireless internet." Simply put the room was tired and the bed was gross. An old sagging mattress had been band-aided with a 8" piece of foam and it turned the mattress into a giant marshmallow that swallowed us whole. Didn't get a minute's sleep and to take matter's worse, the sheets/duvet cover were blood stained and chintzy. The bathroom (see pictures) was so gross we didn't use it. We also could not get any internet in the room and the patio had no view whatsoever - just the 6" high fence that surrounded it. Now on to the meals. "Full, prix fixe dinner ranges from $49.99 to $64.99 depending upon entre." The sample menu included a CENTER CUT FILET MIGNON, but no, that night we could only get STEAK DIANE, which cost $69 and wasn't worth it. Nor was the tiny two-bite bowl of pasta a proper starter course or the salad with lettuce and garbanzo beans a real salad by our standards. We've eaten at restaurants inferior to the likes of Ruth's Chris that deliver much better value for money, and that includes Cowiche Canyon in downtown Yakima. The next morning, we started our breakfast with a basket of over-toasted cheese bread (the same bread served at dinner) and scones so hard you could bounce them off the floor. I am willing to take it up the @@@ for overspending on the meal, but I'm going to ask my bank to refund my money on the room. The Innkeeper didn't get it. He thought the mattress was fine and told me linens had just been replaced. He refunded the overcharge and not a penny more. Tragic customer service. read more

I hate to leave a bad review during the craziness of covid, but these people are not even trying. Save yourself $100 and just go to a regular horel in town. There is nothing special about this place, and if you happen to need anything, there is no owner or manager on the premises and no one answers the phone or email once they have taken your credit card information. The fireplace that we paid extra for did not work, the room smelled like stale cigarette smoke, the door would not lock from the outside when we left to get food (the restaurant was closed, but we weren't told, so we had to go back out). I called and emailed after we left to discuss our issues and have not heard a word back. I hope I don't have an issue with fraudulent charges, as I now see another guest had! read more

This is a very difficult review, and I'm wondering if at some point in the future it might be updated as I don't think we had the authentic, regular experience or quality they can offer. Me and my husband went for Valentine's Day, and to put it simply - they overbooked. It was an expensive set menu with options, which we were fine paying for a special occasion, but the quality just wasn't there. The room was absolutely crammed full of people so you could hear whispers and private conversations from other tables. The food appeared rushed and disjointed, just screaming that the kitchen was in a free fall panic at the number of orders coming in, and when dishes spoke volumes at the care put into each dish - not a lot. The wait between each course was about 30-45 minutes with no exaggeration. A special Valentine's meal turned into almost the whole room playing and tweedling on their phones ready to be done, us included, and we never have our phones out at the dining table. The salmon arrived cold on the inside and one dish we didn't receive because it was "dropped on the floor" (waiter's words). It was longest meal we've ever had, rocking in at just over three hours long, and the most boring meal we've ever had for that price tag. read more

The short story: I had planned a corporate retreat here. We had to cancel due to the economy (3 months in advance, 1 month after booking). They said they'd refund our deposit of over $2000. 4 months after it was promised, I am dealing with the credit card company to try and get my money back. I don't know if it's financial problems or just poor management, but it's a serious pain. I haven't been to Birchfield Manor, but at this point, I have no intention of every giving them my business. Who knows, maybe they'll have closed their doors and locked up after taking my reservation deposit. This is supposed to be a high end restaurant where one can expect top quality multi-course meals. We ate there recently for a significant family event and were extremely disappointed. None of the courses were exceptional and the main course, a New York strip steak with side dishes, was baked. The resulting meat was tough and dry. No one ate their entire steak and the only persons who asked for take-home boxes were people who had dogs. I certainly won't eat there again and I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a quality dinner. read more

The location for this bed and breakfast is beautiful. I loved its setting, that it was close to town yet felt far away, and that it was also a quick drive from the Seattle area. When we arrived, we were greeted and welcomed in. This was not expected since the Vacasa information said there was no one on staff. At this point, we thought things were starting out great. A young, but pleasant woman welcomed us in. It turns out she is home from college for the summer and is earning some extra cash. She also mentioned there was dinner, to let them know if we wanted to make reservations, and that there was menu with the specials in our room. We stayed in the Victoria room, which was a fine size for the two of us. We had something to attend in town so we wouldn't be there during the day. The carpet in the bedroom and flooring in the bathroom felt very nice under our feet, and the bathroom was clean and included the basic necessities. We had a nice, big bay window as well. The room did not have any information about dinner, WiFi access, or nearby attractions. The bathroom light was connected to the fan, which was ridiculously loud. If you got up during the night to use the restroom, you were most definitely going to wake someone up. We headed downstairs to get information about dinner and perhaps grab a glass of wine or recommendation. It took a while to find anyone, as the chef just stayed in the back. I finally found someone and asked about dinner. They said they only had one reservation and tried to express how unusual that was. The menu was expensive but we were on vacation, it was 6:15 and we felt pushed into a corner with how awkward the conversation went. We said we would stay for dinner. I went back to ask if I could order a bottle of wine to drink on the porch while we waited for dinner. I totally understand that the girl from college who was essentially serving as the face of this B&B was not familiar with wine, for which she apologized profusely. However, no one came out to make a recommendation or help her with my basic questions. The wine, which was a 2016 Sauvignon blanc had turned. I really do hate complaining and being that person, but it was a $36 bottle of wine that was not up to par. When I came back to the kitchen, I again waited and finally found someone. I asked to see the date on the bottle, apologized for complaining but said it tasted bad. The young woman went to go check with someone, but came back and said she believed me and grabbed the chardonnay (the only other wine they had left). This was slightly better but it was clear that these bottles were not stored or chilled properly. We finally settled for what we had and walked around the venue. There was a pool but it was dirty and there was also a little pond with a crumbling swing and picnic table. My fiancé sat down gently on it and I watched it almost crack into pieces. The picnic table was not much better but it held up for the next 20 minutes. It was also not clear where we were allowed to walk or what we were allowed to do. Here's the thing, when someone has this gorgeous of a property so close to town and in the heart of wine country, they should make some basic structural investments that at the very least, would keep an insurance agent from running for the hills. There were two other groups for dinner. I had the lamb shank and my fiancé had the filet mignon. While the dinner was good, the cost for each of the main courses ranged from $45 to $60 each. This included a small salad and starter (about ¾ cups of each item). Desert and coffee was extra, although they brought out a tray with pre-made items. It was certainly not worth the cost. I'm 32 and after the 20th time being called ma'am after each time the young server approached me, I was about to explode. Again, she was young and sweet so this is not on her. Earlier I was having trouble with the WiFi and overheard another guest ask about it at dinner. It wasn't working and regardless of their inquiry and my additional comment, it never got fixed. I would have called, but there was no phone and everyone dispersed after dinner. If there was a breakfast served, we didn't know about it. We did not hear or read what time it would be served, or if we had to shell out another $200. We went to Starbucks instead. There was ROKU channel changer for the television, but the only option was antenna TV. My fiancé also woke up in the middle of the night to a bug crawling on his forehead. He didn't tell me until the morning and said he even examined it with his phone and had no idea what it was. Honestly, this is not a huge deal but it definitely added to the irritations. Overall, there was no focus on, or priority given to facility maintenance or service level. The B&B is simply used as a way to get people into a "restaurant" that doesn't have the chef credentials or service to back up the price. read more

Stay the night at the bed and breakfast, no dinner service since it was a Sunday night so can't comment on the dinner food. Room was nice, mattress was too soft for me. Whirlpool tub in the bathroom that seats two, also has a shower. Was told the inn was full but never heard anyone else, which is a positive thing for me. Didn't do breakfast in the dining room but had it sent it as room service. No menu to choose from, whatever the chef makes is what you get. This year I decided to celebrate our 48th anniversary at Birchfield Manor.I reminisced about all the cherished moments that we shared together. Enjoying the beautiful atmosphere and all the white lights on the trees outside made it a perfect celebration. I was greeted with a hug and congratulated for celebrating what would have been our 48th wedding anniversary which mad it very emotional. Wow. Sorry CD had such a bad time. We got a great deal by coming in the off-season and skipping the breakfasts. I hear their food's really good, so that may have been a mistake, but Waffles Caffe did us fine. We stayed 2 nights in the Panorama Room and it's amazing - larger than our 1BR apartment in Seattle! The jetted hot tub was a good size for 2 tall folks. The free coffee and home-made chocolates were excellent. The bed was comfortable. The skylight was nice (except that it could have used a shade in the mornings). The porch and view were sweet, though Yakima's not much to look at in the winter. It was really quiet. Although we didn't see much of anyone, the reception guy was friendly and recommended wineries, and the room cleaning was just the right level of thorough - straightened up, but not to the extent that they were going around folding my underwear. ew. Overall, we had a great stay at a great price. We'll try to do dinner or breakfast next time. read more

This is for the restaurant. We went there last week for our anniversary. It was a splurge for us as the prix fixe menu is rather expensive($60-$70 each). It started off okay, but then the server couldn't answer any of our questions about the food or wine. I ordered the halibut with risotto and the risotto was so salty it was inedible. I asked for a substitute and they brought out mashed potatoes. That was fine. After the entrée, the server came by with 2 dessert choices. We took one of each. Low and behold when the bill arrived there were 2 charges for $10 each. I could hear the other tables also wondering what the charges were for. The server NEVER said anything about the desserts being extra. It was very deceiving. When you get a prix fixe dinner with multiple courses you don't expect that one of the courses costs extra. That is not the way it works! If you are going to charge, they should say so. It totally ruined the experience. read more

I am a 40-something woman of discerning tastes who has traveled and worked in 14 countries. I grew up on the restaurants of San Francisco and the wines of Napa Valley. I am not easy to please as I want it "done right." Birchfield Manor does it just right. While the bed and breakfast experience is not for everyone, for the price of a Best Western, you are treated to the comfort of a family estate with attentive service and elegant dining in a relaxed setting. Two miles from the town of Yakima, the 1910 farmhouse is surrounded by pastures and hop fields. I was also delighted to find a small, kidney shaped swimming pool, surrounded by lush lawns, reminiscent of my childhood. My friend and I stayed in the "Victoria" room for $119/night. It is one of the more modest rooms and we were entirely pleased with its comfortable bed, roomy window seat with southern exposure, and Pullman-style bath (shower, no tub). The complimentary full breakfast started with home-made breads and granolas and ended with a savory omelet and fresh fruit. And, I especially appreciated the good coffee! The Inn also offers a select dinner menu, but you must make advanced arrangements. We were fortunate enough to enjoy a lovely meal on a Sunday evening as we "crashed" a larger party, booked through a bike tour company. For less than $50, you are treated to a multi-course meal with many of the ingredients coming straight from the on-site garden. We were able to choose from entrees such as Steak Diane, King Salmon in puff pastry, and Roasted Rack of Lamb. Though the fixed price meal ends with a sweet treat, for an additional cost you may enjoy one of the specially prepared desserts. The Inn also has an extensive wine list, and will happily accommodate wine by the glass to suit your palate. If you are looking for sound proof walls, television, expansive closet space, and modern bath facilities, I suggest you keep going. If you are looking for an exquisitely prepared meal, Euro-style country charm, gracious hosts, and that elusive feeling of "coming home" after a long day exploring local sites or even a week on the road, visit the Birchfield Manor. What a wonderful find! We had to cancel our other B&B and booked Birchfield at the last minute. Lucky for us it was in late October. The room was perfect, antique furniture, in-room coffee, HUGE bathroom, and an L shaped window seat. Brad greeted us and took us to our room and we enjoyed our first evening with appetizers and drinks (that we'd brought). Breakfast was out of this world! Eggs with a tomato relish, homemade multi grain toast, and roasted potatoes. After a day of wine tasting, shopping, and hitting Jones fruit stand for pumpkins, peppers, corn (should have bought more!) and tomatoes, we returned for naps and a bath in the jetted tub. Prices were reasonable for the area, and the grounds and views were much better than the usual. Then, an amazing multi-course dinner. Pumpkin soup, salad, and Steak Diane. Such a wonderful find! The room was large ... nothing overly fancy, but was exactly what we were looking for. Wifi worked well. (I'm always nervous when staying at airbnbs and bed and breakfasts as to whether the wifi will work. I was happy to have no problems with it!) My wife and I stayed for a long weekend while in town for wine tasting. Breakfast was great and appreciated that they allowed dogs! I finally got to check this place out. We went for dinner this past Friday. I will start with the food. It was good, not great, but definitely okay. I had the lamb (cooked perfectly) and my fiance had the fillet (nothing fantastic about it). Okay, now for the ambiance/atmosphere. The mansion is cool, we didn't stay there, just ate there so I can't tell about the rooms. We ate in the cellar. Well it was a little distracting, since the mansion is old, you can hear the foot steps upstairs from the wait staff. It was also REALLY cold in the cellar. One of my major pet peeves was the way the staff was dressed. Everybody wears black pants and a white button down shirt. You would think that when you are paying what you are for the food, they would have stricter rules on what white shirt of black pants the employees wear. A lot of the shirts were untucked, with old dirty black pants. It was just sort of a little appalling. It was worth checking it out, but I don't know if I will be back (our tab, with out any booze, came to $180, which I think was a little expensive, especially since all that includes for desert is a chocolate). read more

We stayed in the B&B 1 night this past summer. Since that night I have been trying to get a charge reversed that was 3 Times the cost of the room. They charged me For one night - then one week later Charged me for 2 nights. I started off contacting the B&B, but after no response to my multiple calls and emails, turned it over to my credit card company. This has been disputed thru my credit card company but I'm yet To receive my refund, 4 Months after my stay. read more

I feel like I should preface this with saying that I have not yet stayed at Birchfield Manor. I planned to stay there this weekend, but my boyfriend broke up with me right before we left. I called right away and told Tim, the manager, what had happened and to find out about my options. Tim did what he could to rent the room on such short notice, and was able to rent it for the 2nd night of our planned stay. He also offered to upgrade the room if I decided to come anyway, either alone or with a friend, free of charge. I ended up not making the trip, but the fact he would be so willing to accommodate my change of plans makes me want to stay at Birchfield next time I plan a trip to Yakima. read more

Upon making reservations for two rooms, my credit card was charged double the cost of the rooms without any authorization from me. After many uncessessful attempts to get my money back from the proprietor I have now filed a claim with my credit card company. The same thing happened to my sister-in-law. Our speculation is that they are having financial difficulties. Perhaps they are out-of-business. read more

Possibly the nicest dining experience available in Yakima. Good for a special occassion. Small menu, but very well prepared. Everything first class, from service to presentation to culinary quality. Limited seating makes for a quiet, intimate meal. Prices comparable to superior big city restaurants and well worth a visit if willing to pay. read more

My husband and I got the opportunity to stay at this beautiful location this past weekend. The setting is absolutely gorgeous! You pass by a vineyard and a drive down through arborvitae, into a beautiful fairy tale like setting. We checked in to the Blue Willow room, which was picture perfect. The bed was so soft with the plush comforter and all the PILLOWS! We had a cute private patio with seating, from there you could see the Manor, along with a pond and beautifully landscaped area, with the trees all lit up with Christmas twinkle lights. The room itself was very accommodating, all the towels you will ever need, robes, and amenities (soap, shampoo, conditioner), the bed was HUGE, as well as the shower. We went to the Manor for dinner, there we were greeted by a young woman who not only held the door for us, but took our coats, and offered my husband and I a glass of wine. The dining room was again, picture perfect from the tables, chairs, lights, even the restrooms! The staff was very polite and attentive. My husband and I rarely get a way from everyday life, this was the perfect spot to escape and recharge. Recently had the pleasure of staying at Birchfield Manor, As a mom of three on a budget I can say my outings are very limited especially with no children so one those rare occasions alone with the hubby one might say I can be rather picky at making sure everything is perfect ... And for once I have found a place I can say is just that PERFECT!! I can not say enough great things about this place the beautiful setting as you drive in captures the essence of wine country , the cottage has been newly updated and look warm and inviting the moment you walk in , Xavier the manager was exceptional and beyond friendly, answered every question that we had , made sure we had extra soaps and shampoos and truly catered to our every need. He even took the time to walk us around the property and show us everything this it had to offer he was so amazing and knowledgeable I could have talked with him for hours .. We stayed in the panorama room which was beyond amazing and I did not want to leave the jetted tub alone made me want to just sink in and stay , the balcony over looked a beautiful private pond with another vineyard in the distance, while we stayed in the off season the set up was still so beautiful that you could just picture how green and beautiful it would be at the peak of summer , we will most definitely be returning !!! read more

What a gorgeous place. Looks like it has recently been updated but they definitely didn't take any of the beautiful character it has away. Loved all the beautiful windows and chandeliers. My last visit to the Birchfield was not my first. Usually our experiences are top notch. Our last experience was very disappointing. I ordered the fillet, it was presented way over cooked. The dining room was packed and the servers had their hands full, no one actually stopped by during the meal to see if our dinner was prepared as expected. Okay, can live with that. As the server removed our plates, I commented on how disappointed I was about my fillet being over cooked. I received the customary " I will tell the chef". No response from anyone except receiving the bill about 20 minutes later. So $58 for an over cooked fillet and not even the courtesy of "geez, sorry about that". Seriously? I seldom complain about a meal, may once every two years or so. Even the down scale restaurants offer to pull part of your bar bill or something if things weren't right. Not impressed, not happy, not recommending. read more
