This was such a great poke spot. The gentleman working was very kind and helpful, and he let us sample anything we wanted before ordering, which made the experience even better. All of the poke was incredibly fresh and delicious--it was honestly hard to decide what to get because everything looked so good. There are a few tables inside, but not a ton of seating, so it feels more like a grab-and-go spot. Prices were also very reasonable for the quality. I get it - it's a poke bowl - but I don't understand why some of the photos show completely different presentations. They should probably stick to one consistent way of plating so customers have a better idea of what to expect. Our bowl was just thrown together and there was zero personality from the guy working there. The 2-choice bowl came out to $21.94 total, which makes this a pricey treat considering the portion and overall presentation. Since the ahi was fresh, I did bump my 3 stars up to 4. With that said, my son really enjoyed the Garlic Ahi Poke, so that made me happy. The poke selection itself was very minimal with only 5 options to choose from. The restaurant is small, and more suited for a quick takeout joint, but they did have some seating if you wanted to dine in. Prices are a little expensive but their flavors are unmatched! The service staff are very kind and attentive- even when the are busy helping all their customers. The sushi rice is lightly flavored so don't worry about it being too vinegary, it is lightly flavored in taste and a little sweet. That is the theme with the flavors being there but not overpowering. I got the spicy ahi and garlic poke. The spicy ahi was not that spicy with just a little heat. The garlic ahi poke had a flavorful mix of sweet, salty, and garlic flavors. Nice balance of flavors without overtaking the taste of the fish. The ahi was fresh, not frozen and you pay for that. The price is on the higher side but good quality. Expensive but OH SO GOOD. This place is the definition of "hole in the wall". Heck even parking was difficult to find! The lady that served us was very helpful, though. Now, the poke was AMAZING. Appearently it's fresh, never frozen, and that makes a big difference! We tried a couple of different types and they threw in some rice for us as well. We settled on one bowl with garlic ahi poke and spicy & limu ahi poke. The second bowl we chose spicy ahi and spicy & limu ahi poke. Both bowls contained sushi rice. Their fish was fresh. It was smooth and firm. Out of the three flavors that we tried, the spicy & limu was my favorite. They had condiments on the side that you can put on yourself. I used the furikaki and garlic chips. Poke by the pound was recommended by a local friend as an alternative since kbaybros was closed on Mondays. There is limited parking along Nimitz but luckily found a temp spot while we grabbed food. We arrived a little after 1 and looked like the lunch crowd pretty much cleaned house. The guy behind the counter looked like he hated life and seemed a bit reluctant to take our order. We ended up ordering a poke bowl since I didn't want to commit to ordering a ton of poke as it was our first try. The poke itself was good but damn there wasn't much of it in the bowl (see pic). There was no clear sign by the poke saying how much it was per pound. I didn't ask but assumed that it would not cost $37 per pound. I bought less than a 1/2 pound and it cost me $17.76!!!! I'm all for supporting local but I can't afford to support this place anymore. Maybe if there was a clear sign stating the price per pound I would not have been so shocked when purchasing. There are TV's on the back wall that is not in front of the poke display but they are not visible from where the poke is located at the front of shop. Just OK is not OK. This was the feeling at Poke By The Pound from when I parked till I finished the last bit of rice. Poke By The Pound is located at the corner of Nimitz Hwy and Kalihi St. Look for the giant sign. There's a small strip of road right beside with parking spaces, but unless there are no cars waiting at the light, you can't enter it coming from Nimitz. You need to be heading South on Kalihi St to enter. I had to loop around just to get in. Heading inside, everything was quite spaced out, and didn't seem like much was going on. I was trying to look for the price for a poke bowl and a menu, but didn't see it at all. I just went ahead and ordered. Based on what I saw in the cold case, there's only five different selections for ahi, and one tako. $31.95 per pound for ahi and $19.95 for Tako. That seems pretty dang high from the prices I've been seeing recently. I got the spicy ahi and garlic poke. It was $14.99 for the bowl plus tax. You get quite a hefty size bowl, but it's A LOT of rice. Definitely the most rice I've received for a poke bowl. As for the Ahi, you don't get much. I know it's not by THAT much, but compared to other poke bowls, it didn't appear to be the appropriate portion. Also, compared to other photos from here. It's definitely less! The most hyped here was the Garlic Poke. For me, besides being garlicky, it was overall bland. The ahi was firm. Not melt in your mouth as other places. It was a bit on the drier side. This applied to the Spicy Ahi as well. It had a nice spice kick, but it just didn't have enough flavor. Overall, it was surprisingly not very satisfying. The vast amount of rice plus the under seasoned ahi equates to just an OK Poke Bowl. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't good enough compared to other places. Service was OK. The cashier seemed to lose patience after 15 seconds of waiting while I paid for the exact change. Hi, I can't immediately pull out 70-cents from my pocket. Really that easily annoyed waiting while I pick out two quarters and two dimes? I'll pass on this place. High quality of Poke and made fresh daily. A little higher of price than what I'm used to at over $30 per pound. I tried 1/4 lb of every available Tuna Poke and ate every bit. There are some cooked options available that I will return for. Not much room to eat inside, but perfect for take out and ready fast. The garlic poke was my favorite with large consistent chunks, zero striations and seemed to be a different tuna or cut than the Hawaiian Salt poke. Been wanting to try this place for a while - finally did a drive by to try their poke bowl and poke by the pound. The price per pound is a tad higher than some other places, but worth it IMHO. The fish is fresh, and their seasonings are on point! The hubby ordered the two-choice poke bowl for $15 - looked like a fair amount of poke and it looked really fresh.
