Super embarrassed to say that I'm always on the West side and this is the first time I've tried this place (face palm). I know I've passed it many times on the way to Makaha beach and Pray for Sets. A friend had recommended this place and since we were close by, we decided to drop in. From the moment we entered, we felt like valued guests. The employees were friendly, hospitable, and were super thankful for our business. I ordered rainbow with ice cream and azuki beans. Loved the fact that they use Dave's ice cream (and not the cheap stuff that's probably not even ice cream). The ice is powdery and snow soft and melts in your mouth! The ratio of syrup to ice is just right - it was not overly sweet like some other places. Prices are also SUPER reasonable compared to other tourist places. They also sell aloha wear and accessories, making this place a one stop shop for all your local needs. When I come home to visit, this is the closest place to me that sells shave ice. It seems Everytime I come here there's always an issue. The first time I went the azuki beans were so hard and dry. The other time I went the mochi was hard. The last time I went, my mom ordered a mango and they gave her rainbow with mango on top. I ordered a creamy rainbow. As I started walking back to the car I was eating it and the entire middle was only ice. There was no syrup. I went back and told them and they said they knew that this happens so they added more syrup. As I got down to the bottom of the cup there was no syrup and it was only ice. I was on the Westside looking for dole whip and Mountain Magic shaved ice food truck kept coming up on Yelp search. It was easy to find. We could see it from the highway. It's in a shopping strip mall parking lot. Not the sexiest place but it was cute , quaint and totally Hawai'i! There's about 5-6 other food trucks in the lot. The menu was easy and there were several different sizes available. Prices seemed reasonable. I got a rainbow colored shaved ice with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The ice was shaved fine and perfect. So much better than that "other" place in North shore. The service was quick and easy. The owner introduced me to her son and daughter that was there helping her. Since I was young, Mountain Magic Shave Ice has always been my go-to spot for shave ice I miss the many conversations I had with aunty, the original owner, about how she loved her job, she enjoyed making fresh, homemade mochi balls every day and getting to talk with everyone she met The shave ice stand offers a variety of flavors ranging from tigers blood to blue vanilla They also offer add-ons, such as mochi balls, lihing mui powder, condense milk and icecream!You can mix-and-match 3 syrups to create many flavorful combinations I do want to note that ever since aunty left years ago, I've noticed that the shave ice and customer service tend to vary on quality, depending on who is working the stand. Sometimes you may be met with friendly workers, while others, not so much. Some days the shave ice they give will be in large amounts like they used to do, other days it will be smaller with less toppings. The mochi balls have also shrank throughout the years. The texture of the shave ice has also changed, as it is more of a slushy-soft ice rather than the typical shave ice, crunchy-soft texture it used to be. There is more syrup than there is ice. (See attached photos. The single shave ice photo was my most recent visit in 2024 and the two shave ice photo was back in 2017. Both orders were the same size: keiki. I miss the flower shaped bowls) There is only one bench nearby for seating, but plenty of parking. Keep in mind that the stand only takes cash. How the heck was their ice so fine yet they're able to cover every crevice with syrup???? No clue but it is so refreshing in Hawaii weather where it's literally always hot. They're located on the lower half of the Waikele Outlets. They have a decent amount of flavors and you can mix-match aka get multiple flavors in one! Their keiki size is perfect for one person and can easily cool you down. The only downside was the first time we went there, they accidentally put li hing powder on top, which we did not order. I wouldn't have mind but we had a bunch of condensed milk on it that just thought would clash with the li hing. They noticed they messed up so they said they would remake it, which we really appreciated. While we were eating the new ice, there was a bunch of li hing powder in the middle, messed with the flavors a bit for me. We didn't say anything, but why say you were gonna remake it if you just took the top off and put a little new ice on it? We'd still come back. And we did. We've been to Waikele a couple of times and have tried most of the food trucks there. I'm not sure why we never tried Mountain Magic but we finally did on this trip. We stopped by on a Saturday at around 4:30. I had the Tiger's Blood (combination of strawberry, watermelon, and coconut) with a snow cap. I'm not sure if I really tasted any of these flavors. There are also some ice chunks in there and I like my shave ice to be fine. They also charge an extra dollar for "premium flavors" whatever that means, so that was kind of wack. I recently drove all the way to Makaha for Mountain Magic shave ice (and poke tacos....iykyk) and while it was good, I don't think I'd drive that far just for shave ice. Thankfully Mountain Magic Shave Ice has a little shave ice wagon in the parking lot of lower Waikele! So after work on particularly hot days I drive over to Waikele usually for starbucks, but from now on I will be going to Mountain Magic. The Lychee cream flavor is so good. I can't even explain how good it is. The ice is shaved super fine so its soft. I add mochi balls and condensed milk too, but you really don't have to. It's a bit on the pricier side if you want all the fancy things. The lychee cream syrup is like a premium syrup so its $1 extra. Mochi balls ar $1 extra and condensed milk is $1 extra. so it's like $9 for a small when it all adds up. There wasn't much of a line, but a few people came to order while I was there. They get good business here I think. There is plenty of parking, 3 people working the shave ice stand and they are efficient. It's also cash only so make sure you bring your dolla bills! read more

Coincidentally, I arrived here at around 11:40 or so and they literally just started opening the front shade such that I was the first customer in line. However, while I was ordering, at least 4 additional customers lined up after me. My order was taken quickly and I was directed to wait on the side for pick-up. I didn't pay attention for the first few minutes as I was playing on my phone. However, I eventually looked up and saw that the second employee, who was responsible for making the shaved ice, was writing out some notes. She hadn't even started actually making any shaved ice. I just kept staring at her and several minutes later she casually put the notes away, gloved up, and started making the orders. At that point, everyone had already ordered and was standing on the side by me, waiting. I'd say it took about 10 minutes, as the first person in line, to receive my shaved ice. I heard someone actually saying, what, are they freezing the ice in there. Completely unprofessional and would never come here again. I can tell you that all those people that voted this place number one weren't wrong. I've never had a better shave ice in my life. It's really hard to describe the texture of the ice. It was smooth like butter and had a creamy consistency to it. It's nothing like I've experienced before. You just need to try it out. It does melt really fast though due to the snow like texture of the ice. They have a lot of flavors. I'm not going to list them all, but you can see them in my pics. They have four sizes. I got the large and chose three flavors. I got the mango, lilikoi and pineapple with the snow cap (condensed milk) for an extra dollar. The syrups tasted natural and wasn't overly sweet. I can't believe it took me this long to try this place out. I would have voted this mobile shave ice truck number one too. They also sell some souvenirs and swimming gear needs. They have a pool noodle for $3.95, and I'm glad they did cause I badly needed it for those beach waves!
