Hidden coffee shop across from the college, there is street parking and parking in the back. I was a little put off because when I walked in there was only one worker and she didn't say hi or acknowledge me when I came in... it's my first time so i'm standing there trying to figure out what I want and I was gonna ask for her opinion but she kept walking off to the back (still hadn't greeted me at this point) I then realized you have to order yourself on the kiosk so I did that... The inside of this place is quaint, a decent amount of seating and chill music. Probably a good study spot. Very clean too. I ordered the Caramel Bliss latte (got it half sweet)... it's a caramel latte with vanilla cold foam and caramel drizzle. The prices here are good! The coffee is advertised as $5.99 and after tax comes out to about $6.50 which is still cheaper than most coffee shops these days. The drinks itself tasted amazing! Not too sweet and great flavor. I liked that you can actually taste the coffee. I think since it has cold foam it's still on the sweeter side so if you don't like coffee too sweet maybe skip the foam.
RYO Coffee is such a fun spot if you're looking for unique coffee and matcha drinks! I tried the Iced Vanilla Latte with foam, Banana Blast Latte with foam, Banana Matcha Cloud, and the House Fusion Coffee. Everything was flavorful and fun to try, especially if you like creative drinks beyond the usual coffee shop menu. I also loved having so many different options to choose from. Definitely a spot I'd recommend checking out if you're in the area and want to try something different!
Ryo Coffee & Tea is located in Fullerton! It was quite easy to pull over and park here for a quick coffee fix. There are a couple of parking spots in front of the store, on the street. I'm not sure if there is a parking lot or any other parking spots nearby. Upon walking inside, it was bustling with other patrons playing a card game. It was nice to see liveliness inside the cafe on a calm morning. I can see how this place would be a hit with the college students. They offered pastries and ramen noodles for patrons, which would be the perfect hang out or study meal. We ordered on the kiosk and got to look at their drinks with pictures next to it. I opted to try their banana blast latte that was a bit over $6 in price. We sat down and waited quite a bit for our drinks. There was only one person manning the front, so it was understandable. He was very kind and approachable when we had ordered. My banana blast was definitely banana. I actually got soy milk as an alternative and I could taste that, too. The best part is amidst the banana and soy milk, I could also taste the coffee. Not bad! We would definitely come back to try their other drinks whenever we're in the area!
I came across this spot on social media and bookmarked it for the next time I was in the area. We happened to be nearby, so I knew we had to give it a try and I'm glad we did! Ordering was easy through the kiosk, and I appreciated that the menu highlighted the best sellers and recommended customizations. We ordered: * Banana Matcha Cloud * Matcha Bliss * Banana Blast Latte (recommended with oat milk and vanilla cold foam--trust the recommendation!) * Mango Breeze Every single drink was delicious. The flavors were well-balanced, refreshing, and exactly what we were hoping for. The Banana Blast Latte with oat milk and vanilla cold foam was especially good. The drinks came out quickly, the prices were reasonable, and the overall experience was smooth from start to finish. We'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend if you're in the area!
Stumbled into RYO near Cal State Fullerton and instantly understood why people keep talking about it. The vibe is super chill, fun, and has that perfect college-town energy where everyone seems to be either studying, catching up with friends, or hunting for the perfect Instagram photo. I ordered the Banana Matcha, and wow!! it was smooth, rich, creamy, and somehow tasted like a matcha and banana decided to become best friends. The inside is also designed perfectly for a quick photo op with your drink..so don't be surprised if you leave with both caffeine and new profile pictures Great drinks..cool atmosphere.. and definitely worth a visit.. I'll absolutely be back for another matcha adventure.
This place is one of my favorite places to get a Hojicha latte!!!! This place has great vibes, clean, easy to find, and service is always great! If I could, I'd come here everyday!
It really gives off mom & pop vibes. It was nice seeing the interactions of the students who came to support the owner (who teaches at fullerton college and now owns Ryo Tea). The owner is also really funny. When the drinks came out, he jokingly said "don't even ask me which one is the ube". The ube was really strong and the matcha itself was yummy. It is on the sweeter side. The london fog was light but good.
There's a kiosk at the front, but you can also order directly with the cashier. There's plenty of seating inside, making it a good spot to study or get some work done. The Uba Matcha Cloud with ube coconut milk was really good, though it was on the sweeter side. I wish there had been an option to adjust the sweetness level. The Creamy Matcha wasn't as creamy as I expected, but it did have that rich, slightly chalky matcha texture. I just wish it had been a bit creamier overall.
I never realized how close this place is to Fullerton community college! You're in for a treat if you go to school there. They specialize in their matcha drinks I believe, but I'm personally not the biggest fan of matcha. So, I got their phoenix milk tea, which is actually dairy-free! They use a non-dairy creamer and oolong tea, which you can really taste in the drink! I got 50% sweet to get more of the tea flavor, but if you want it a little sweeter, definitely do 100% sweetness. I also got their crystal boba with the drink, which has to be one of the tastiest crystal boba pearls I've ever had! You do order from a mini screen, but the service was very good when they bring your drinks out. The shop itself is pretty small and they do have board games for you to play as well. I'm happy I finally got to try this place!
This place was easy to find as it is facing the busy street of Chapman Ave and it is right across the street from Fullerton College. Parking was easy to find, as there is parking in the back, behind the building. And you can park in front of the street if there is any available. When I got there they were a bit busy as it was a long line in front of me. I saw one of the QR codes that said "order online and pick up in store." So I ordered on line and finished my order before actually getting to the self order kiosk and it gave me a pick up time. As I was taking my pictures and waiting, I noticed that the girls behind me in line got their order even before my order was called out. As my pick up time was approaching, I went to go check on my order. And it was already done just waiting in the back. I am not sure how the pick up ordering service works, but I am pretty sure they usually have drinks finished before a pick up time. I felt like I waited all this time when my drink was already ready. I really enjoyed the Phoenix milk tea. Oolong milk tea is one of my favorites. I also like how this is one of the few drinks where you can make adjustments. I am not too sure about the texture of the Boba, as it is not your regular round tapioca balls. I wanted to try the genmaicha latte because I was curious how it would taste in latte form because I drink genmaicha tea everyday. I like how they notify you that this is not a Matcha drink. But when I ordered it, I got Matcha foam on top.The drink is very genmaicha forward. And when you mix in the matcha cream foam, you get hints of that matcha upon every sip. It was delicious and I loved it! I like the ambience of this place. It has a very modern feel with a few tables and chairs as well as benches where you can sit and hang out. They also have some games for you to play while you are waiting or if you want to hang out with friends. It is also a nice study place as it is quiet inside. Very helpful for those students across the street. Definitely a place I would like to try again.
Banana Cloud Matcha: sweet, creamy, and still had a strong matcha flavor. Not usually my favorite combo since it's mostly cloud foam, but it was still really good 8/10 Creamy Matcha: matcha w a matcha cream stop, EASY 10/10. fantastic. you can definitely taste the quality in their coffee! they have such fun flavors too! i got to try the coconut pandan einspanner and LOVEDDD it. i will definitely be returning to try other drinks great space to do work here as well. i had no trouble finding parking (they also offer parking behind the building)
I got the Phoenix Milk Tea and liked that it had a strong tea flavor. I personally wish it was a bit sweeter, but I tend to prefer sweeter drinks, so if you like something more balanced or less sweet, you'd probably enjoy it as is. The service was good and the cashier was friendly. Parking was in the back, but it was a bit tricky to find at first since it's tucked away in the area.
*Note: TDLR at the end of the review Sesame Bliss: 8/10 Has double espresso, but you have the option for 1 shot espresso as well. I got the double shot and ofc it was very strong. It has a nice subtle sesame flavor, but not super apparent when mixed. The sesame foam itself is super thick and it's sweet with a strong sesame flavor. Coffee is on the sweeter side and it's creamy especially when mixed. Just to note, it does take a little bit of time to mix because the foam is so thick. Service: 8/10 The two women at the front seemed pretty busy. Not really any service because I used the little screen at the front, but drink came out fast. Ambiance: 6/10 I came around 9am and the music was super loud. Not particularly my favorite thing first thing in the morning. Aesthetically, it's cute, sleek, and clean. Very very limited seating. A better hangout spot than study spot. It's right across Fullerton College and parking was remotely easy. There's a couple street spots, but I parked in the parking lot in the back. TDLR: Good, fast, and affordable. Sesame bliss is strong and on the sweeter side. Recommend for strong coffee drinkers. Across from Fullerton college. Not good for studying. Parking: I utilized the street parking on N Newell Pl. It wasn't very clear to me if I was allowed to park in the parking lot next to them but based on the signs I think you can (Chapman Ave and Lawrence Ave). I also wasn't sure how to access it when I was going down Chapman Ave, but I believe you can access it from E Wilshire Ave. Service: I used the iPad to place my order. They made my drink pretty quickly despite how many orders they had in person + delivery services! Ambiance: the store itself is very cozy, limited indoor seating as well as outdoor seating. There were some people with laptops studying, but I can see how it can quickly fill up! Drink: Banana matcha cloud (seasonal)- the matcha was served as a silky cream top instead of the traditional liquid matcha over a layer of milk + banana syrup! It was very delicious! I ordered Ube coffee with coconut milk and it was good. you can choose between hot or cold, and i since I like my coffee hot, i ordered hot coffee. My nieces got the cold coffee. they have variety to choose from. fast, great service. Such a lovely family-owned business. Visited after a long hike; their drinks are delicious. I tried the hibiscus sunset, and my friend had the pistachio matcha. Both were exceptionally tasty. And the service was excellent; I asked about caffeine-free drinks and found exactly what I was looking for! I will definitely try other drinks! read more

The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable, which makes the whole experience even better. The shop itself is somewhat small but very bright and open making it feel very welcoming. Great study Café for a quick coffee pick up spot in Fullerton. The owner is always here to greet you with a smile. It sometimes gets backed up when it gets busy, but I don't mind :) They have lots of indoor seating tables with a few outdoor patio seating. The parking is in the lot behind the store or you can do short term street parking. I love their Sakura Matcha latte. I think it's their seasonal drink. I get full sweet. Vanilla latte with oat milk is also a great option. I like how they keep the shop super casual with lots of seating. It's a good place to work out of or sit and yap. They also have a few wall plug-in for your laptops. I will come back here soon ! read more
First time getting matcha here and I'll definitely be coming back! I got the creamy matcha with matcha cold foam with 75% sweetness. One of my favorite Black Sesame Lattes! Roasty, not the type of grainy that gets stuck in your throat, perfect sweetness, and great ratio of black sesame to coffee. The roast of their coffee is also delicious and not sour at all. I LOVE and will be back to try their matcha. read more

As many other yelpers have reviewed, their phoenix oolong really does taste somewhat similar to the beloved, now closed Orobae in Irvine. Orobae was hands-down my favorite milk tea. It's similar but i wouldn't say it's an exact replica of Orobae's version. Good alternative and also very reasonable pricing! The only thing i would comment on is that the boba was a bit harder. Not as soft as I would've liked so I think they could improve on making their boba. I'll come back to try their Sesame latte. read more

Came back here on the weekend for their 1 Year Anniversary celebration, so we were able to participate in their bogo deal and get one matcha for free! The workers here are very friendly, welcoming, and kind. We both got the Creamy Matcha. I didn't make any adjustments to the sweetness. It was very yummy! The flavor was strong and creamy like the name suggests. I also appreciate the size of their drinks and how they don't put too much ice. I took out all the ice once I got home and there was still a lot of matcha left yay! We also shared the Ham & Cheese Croissant, which was really good too. It was warmed up, super flaky, soft, chewy, and yummy. I highly recommend checking this place out and giving their matcha a try. read more

the drinks came out pretty fast and workers were nice. the matcha was one of the creamiest ive had but even though i got it 75% sweet, it still was on the sweeter side. As for the hojicha it was a bit powdery but delicious . overall its worth a try! read more
I started ordering my drinks for delivery since we started home renovations -- my search started and stopped with Ryo. I mean just look at the paper filter to keep the drinks from leaking? We love thoughtful packaging. I make my own oat milk strawberry matcha lattes every morning since it can get pricey to buy one on the daily and was worried I would be hard pressed to find a suitable replacement for the time being, but Ryo came throughhh. The coffee, the tea, the matcha, the slushies? Everything slaps. Sweetness and ice levels are adjustable, I'm pretty happy with 75% and less ice. I think I'll actually be a little sad once my kitchen is in play again and I'm back to making my own drinks. Ryo has been such an amazing pick-me-up in the mean time. read more

I have been on the hunt for an Orobae-adjacent tea-forward shop and I think this place is the closest one in the local OC area so far with Vietnamese and Japanese influence. It's small and easily hidden next to the Fullerton college campus, but there's a decent number of tables inside to sit. The owners were very friendly and said they were big fans and tried different recipes until they got the current one for the Phoenix milk tea (reminiscent of the Rising Phoenix). The tea flavor is very strong and fragrant. I went with 30% sweet with additional coffee jelly and it wasn't overly sweet. Very solid drink overall for sure. Ryo Coffee & Tea is a small mom-and-pop-style cafe that's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it spot ... but you'll be pleased you dont miss it! Location: Like I mentioned, it's small-ish and if you drive on busy Chapman Avenue you might not have noticed it across from Fullerton College. There's no parking lot in the front, just limited street parking -- but there's a small parking lot in the back. This is really the only complaint I have, as I first went to the back, but saw a bunch of homeless people hanging out there. So I circled to the front; fortunately, there was a spot in the front on Saturday around noon. Of course, Ryo has no control over the homeless situation, but it's something to note. Atmosphere: Once inside, I found it clean, pleasant, and inviting. It's not crazy big, so you might have trouble finding a spot during peak hours; there's about 4 small square tables and two long tables. Drinks: We've only gotten two drinks so far but both were great: creamy matcha and sesame bliss. The former had a strong matcha flavor we were seeking without the grittiness of a lesser tea. The sesame bliss was a filter-brewed coffee latte with black sesame foam. The foam had a nice nuttiness with a hint of sweetness, nicely balancing the solid coffee. Service: Our barista was friendly and knowledgeable -- we couldn't have asked for more. Conclusion: It's sometimes hard to find a cafe that serves drinks that are both strong and flavorful, while still offering good customer service. I'm happy to say Ryo does both. We'll be back to try the other drinks! read more
The Phoenix tea has a nice strong tea flavor and the boba is pretty good. Only thing is you can't adjust sweetness or ice levels on the self serve kiosk. The sesame bliss is a unique drink. The black sesame cold foam is good. The caffeine is really strong. I was jittery for the rest of the day. The place is clean and has good seating arrangements for studying or chatting. We went again today for their 1st anniversary bogo and they did not disappoint~~ their creamy matcha does not skimp on the matcha and this is coming from someone who is very picky when it comes to ordering matcha lattes. Something to note as well is they don't put a lot of ice in comparison to other cafes so you really get your money's worth This time we tried their ham and cheese croissant as well and it went perfectly with our lattes! #151 in my Coffeeshop Chronicles and #108 in my Teaholic Diaries. I couldn't decide which collection to include Ryo in since it's both a coffeeshop and tea house, so I figured I'll just do both ;) Ryo Coffee & Tea opened in November, so about four months ago, and in that time they've already built a reputation for quality drinks and service. I met the owner Peter during my first visit, and he was warm and welcoming. He was even kind and hospitable to my dogs. Ryo is a Vietnamese and Japanese inspired coffee and tea shop, with a variety of Asian influenced drinks. I ordered the Phoenix milk tea, which tasted pretty similar to Orobae's version. Peter described how it took alot of experimenting before they were able to replicate the taste. I love the Phoenix milk tea at Taty's, but I have to say the version here is definitely more tea-focused, making it one of the better Orobae substitutes I've found since Orobae shut down. I also tried the earl grey milk tea, which was delicious. The earl grey really came through, making the drink another tea-focused milk tea. Lastly, the violet garden latte (ube) wasn't my favorite, but it was pretty solid nonetheless. Overall, Ryo has a bit of everything, from lattes to milk teas to ice blended drinks and fruit tea concoctions, setting this shop apart from the typical coffeeshops in the area. ****************** My Ratings: 1 Star: Terrible; just thinking about it makes me angry. 2 Stars: Wasn't a fan so Not likely to return. 3 Stars: Meh. Order: Creamy Matcha Latte with whole milk and 100% sweet. It's okay, tastes fresh and good. I should've ordered less sweet since the sweetness punches your throat. Drink came out fast, it wasn't busy at the time anyways. Service: No welcome greetings upon walking in or coming up to the counter. Older woman was busy preparing a box and I decided to greet first since I wanted to pay cash, she looked back quick and kept her back towards me while answering. Other younger employee walks up to the counter and does not greet first as well and I say hello. I understand customer service can be draining, but a quick welcome would've been nice. Environment: Spacious, not too loud, local. Decent furniture. Plenty of seating for hanging out and working. Clean area. Next to a busy street, but traffic is not too loud. read more

Review 13/365 Challenge I use to come to this shop when it was 1st Cha Time and then it changed to R & B Tea House when I visit my mom in Fullerton. It is now RYO Coffee & Tea. Came during their Grand Opening weekend 2.01-02 along they had a celebration for Lunar New Year. 1st came on Saturday with my family in the afternoon since I was headed to my moms house. They were doing raffle tickets along w giving away red envelopes with coupon for free drinks that was included if you got a lucky or certain percentage off was a few of the offers. Determined to return Sunday morning w my mama friends for the 1st 50 to get free drinks. Since we did plan to grab coffee before heading out for our spa Sunday Funday along with I'm a bit obsessed w the Garden Violet Latte. It's Ube flavored Latte. And wasted my man's friends to try. What we ordered ~ Garden Violet Latte definitely recommended. Has Ube in it. Loved it w coconut milk. Requested it at 50% sweetness and is still sweet. ~ Almond Delight Latte has a hint of Almond. Is good and not too strong of a coffee taste along w the next 2 Brew below is recommended and good. ~ House Fusion Brew. Loved the cheese foam on top. ~ Caramel Cloud CoLd Brew cheese foam is perfectly topped. Like icing to the cake. ~ Phoenix Milk Tea is good. Traditional milk tea. ~ Sweet Milk Tea requested for 75% sweetness is best. This drink can be a bit overly sweet. Met the owner Peter who was taking our orders. Very nice gentleman. Really simple nice bobs shop with board games to enjoy. With a few seatings outside along w a handful indoor. Hopefully it'll do good since it's right across the street from Fullerton College/Fullerton High School. There's a dozen of parking in the back. Small Area or if you get lucky. Very cute coffee shop in downtown Fullerton. It was very spacious inside with lots of seating. They offered games for people to play as well. They had a lot of drink options to choose from. I decided to order an Iced Banana Blast Latte. It said that there was fresh bananas inside and you can taste it when you have the drink. The banana didn't taste artificial or overwhelming. It was a nice solid flavor that paired well with the espresso. Will definitely come back. read more

Great tasting coffee and super friendly service. Came in on a Saturday morning and we were lucky to have been helped by Uyen. He made recommendations and even let us sample the almond delight latte. Plus there's a 15% discount on weekends! I ended up going with the almond delight latte with oat milk. Less sweet. Perfect choice. I'd recommend this coffee shop to anyone in the area. Thomas was so friendly and since we had never been here before I wanted to try it. I saw my Yelp friend Les tried this place. I met my bff and her son with baby girl. Was so hard to find though lol, we parked in the back you sort of go by the college and go through the parking lot. Look for the building with the green trim on the roof top. We parked in the back they had handicap thank goodness i didn't know you could either walk from the back or the front. Lol so we walked in the front area, they have outside and inside seating so nice. They also have games you can play too adults or kids of course. So the kids went straight to those lol a giant tic tac toe, Monopoly, Janga how cool! We had no clue what to order, thank you so much Thomas for being so helpful and fun to talk to. He is awesome he helped us make a choice and explained the drinks to us. They also have small samples of some of their drinks in a plastic little cup which was awesome of them by the cashiers area I knew I was tired but I went in wanting to try Toro Dream, looked so pretty lol it's so creamy and cold and not to strong of a flavor, I got it 75% sweet you can choose your sweetness. My bff ended up getting the Violet Garden latte it was delicious I tried it lol. We sat down talked for a while hung out let the kids play games. Love this place so much. We love the Sakura Matcha Cloud and the London Fog Matcha. Please don't take the off the menu. We have been coming here weekly (sometimes 2x/wk) lol. Thank goodness I don't live close, otherwise, I would be broke. Go try their drinks. You won't regret it. read more
