Customer service was 5 stars but in terms of food unfortunately it's okay in terms of appetizers. Meanwhile I only tried appetizers. So I can't say for the whole menu. The atmosphere was also 5 stars. Also hope they change the soya sauce. Doesn't taste like the ones from sushi places. So it was a bit disappointing. Hopefully they change the soya sauce soon. Otherwise the servers are very nice.

This is a mediocre Japanese spot in the downtown area, near Pacific Place. High points from our experience included the friendly and attentive staff, and the enclosed private room-style seating (which my group happened into accidentally, but which I think can also be reserved if you call ahead?). If you're thinking about the nigiri, best to go with the cheaper rolls, like the salmon, which hover in the $2.50-3.00 range, and are perfectly fine. I selected one of those and also splashed out on a piece of market price spot prawn which ended up being watery, slightly fishy, unappetizing, and grossly overpriced at $6. We also ordered some veggie gyoza, which had a freezer/fridge aftertaste and contained slightly crunchy, under cooked veggies. I am a gyoza fiend, but I had a hard time getting through these. The tempura veggies were the best part of the meal (particularly the kabocha), but still fairly unexceptional. In a city with so many incredible Japanese options, save your pennies and your appetite for another establishment.

My sister and I went here for a dinner. We were sick of eating junk food and Japanese food seemed like best idea. So we went to Ryuu to eat some sushi and good thing they offered Happy Hour around 5PM. We ordered Ika Karaage ($4) and Sushi Combo ($16) and the food was great. They were all delicious. Besides it was authentic Japanese food. We got our tea refill from the waitress as well. I really liked Ika Karaage since I haven't had this in ages. Two thumbs up

Rynn Japanese Restaurant is located on Seymour St. Nearby Robson St. The location is easy to find, but it's not easy to park. We haven't been tried the new restaurant for a long time since the beginning of this year. After work, my fiance and I walked on the Seymour St. We found the restaurant, call Rynn Japanese Kitchen. We decided to give this place a try. Environment: Since we arrived at this restaurant around 6 pm, right at dinner time, this place was busy. Lots of people were dining out here. Luckily, we had a table and sat down to begin our food Journey. Inside the restaurant has lots of space, is the Asian style setting. Nice and Clean. Service: After we sat down, our server brought the water and menu to the table. I believe our server is Korean. She is very nice and friendly. She gave us a good suggestion for food. Food: We ordered Dinner Bento $24, which includes 4 kinds assorted sashimi, 3 kinds assorted sushi, California roll, assorted tempura, chicken karaage, serve with miso soup. We choose the beef teriyaki and sunomonto with the bento. The miso soup is hot and fresh. Sunomonto is cold and tasty. We ordered Gomaae $5.5. It's a seasonal vegetable with sesame sauce. The taste of this dish is a little bit different from other restaurants. The taste is OK, but the vegetable is not very fresh. Takayaki $5.5 Octopus Balls. It's hot and delicious. Beef Tataki $12 Onion, House Ponzu Sauce. Price: The price of the food is a little bit expensive. Especially, the beef Tataki, only a few pieces of beef and it cost $12. Gomaae, old vegetable $5.5. In summary, this restaurant is OK to have a try. But, the food is not very great. It's a very price.

Came here on a weekday around 12:00 PM. Only a handful of tables were occupied so I was brought to a table right away and tea was given. I didn't notice Ryuu Japanese Kitchen is part of the Neptune Restaurant Group until I saw the name printed on the napkin. The staff are Japanese, but ultimately owned by a Chinese corporation. I ordered the chef's daily special lunch set ($18). I was quite excited to see what I would get for lunch. The complimentary miso soup was hot when it arrived, but it was nothing special. It tasted like every miso soup given at other japanese restaurants. The chef's daily special lunch came about 10 minutes later. It had a total 10 dishes, including a bowl of rice. There was a small side of mashed potatoes with corn and carrots, a piece of grilled mackerel, Ika karrage, chicken karrage, agadeshi tofu, takoyaki, beef with enoki mushrooms, seasoned chicken, as well as wild salmon and tuna sashimi. The mashed potatoes with corn and carrots was seasoned with black pepper so it was like an asian fusion. I thought it was a little dry but that could be what it was supposed to be. The wild salmon and tuna sashimi were not as fresh as I expected them to be because flavour was lacking. I didn't enjoy the agadeshi tofu at all. Texture was rough and the skin was soggy. The ika karagge was soggy as well so it definitely weren't made fresh. The takoyaki was a typical takoyaki, moist batter with pieces of tako inside. I liked the chicken karagge because it was not heavily battered. It was also quite tender and juicy. I enjoyed the grilled mackerel because it wasn't dry at all. The first few bites were excellent but it got too salty as I kept eating. The enoki mushrooms wrapped in sliced beef was also a little too salty and heavily sauced but the beef was delicious. I was extremely thirsty after my meal even though I didn't feel it at the time. I was expecting the lunch set to have dishes that used fresh ingredients, rather than pre-made food. Service wasn't exceptional but it was sort of there. Server came by to check up on us, but she didn't make eye contact at all. While I was answering her, she was already rushing to somewhere else. It was evident that she didn't really care. Tea was filled but very rushed. Overall, I was a little disappointed at their customer service and food was okay.

I went to this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved everything! The restaurant is located in downtown so parking might be a bit hard to find but you can park at the private pay parking lot nearby. The restaurant itself is fairly roomy and very clean. The service is on point without crazy long wait times. They have a happy hour between 3pm- 6pm. During the happy hour most items are $4. That's cheap considering the location of the restaurant! The food is what earns this restaurant 5 stars from me...every single dish is incredibly delicious and the portion size is great!! Great restaurant with a small bar. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who like Japanese food.

Convenient location in downtown for lunch or dinner. I usually order their udon. The flavour is okay; just add a bit of salt and it should be good. I tried their sushi combo (this is just me as I dislike too much wasabi) and they globbed wasabi in the nigiri. I tried the salmon first and I just got a glob of wasabi in my mouth. I picked on the rest of my nigiri and removed chunks of wasabi. If you do not like too much wasabi in your nigiri, you might have to let them know. I was not aware so maybe it's best to check with the servers to be safe. I also didn't find their fish fresh. The servers were nice and they came by to refill tea quite often. The restaurant itself is pretty clean and decently sized. Overall okay sushi joint but ofcourse there are other sushi restaurants that I would pick over Ryuu.

Great option for sushi just outside of the CBD. It took a couple extra minutes to walk here, but it was worth it to have a bit more peace and quiet. We got the real crab California roll, spicy tuna roll, salmon avocado roll and an order of mixed tempura. The food came out so fast, I almost didn't even believe it was actually ours. I don't know what they are feeding their chefs, but those guys are like lightning fast. Must be some kind of green tea infused steroids or something. I need some of that. Fish quality was right on, and I was especially impressed about the crab. It was just under $10, so definitely one of the more expensive rolls, but the quality was #unreal. I was also particular happy with the tempura. The batter was light and crispy...unlike some places who coat the veggies and prawns in a thick, fish and chip style batter (bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point). Atmosphere was nice too, especially because I wasn't in the mood for a hectic meal in the CBD. We had lots of space, and it was nice and relaxing. Good job Ryuu!

3.5 I heard through the grapevine that the owner of yoshoku-ya (used to be on Denman) took over this place so I had to give it a try. The interior is more sports bar than sushi joint. They have lcd tvs scattered throughout the restaurant (not recommended as a romantic date spot). Their menu selection was pretty decent, but they left out some of my yoshoku-ya favourties (i.e. katsu curry, corn soup, deep fried oysters). I opted for the tonkatsu. It was crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside - just what I expected. I'll be back to try out their other menu items. It'd be a 4 if the interior was a bit nicer.

I have been coming here for the last 4-5 years and all the food is fantastic. Always fresh and to your table with excellent presentation. It is a very clean comfortable place to eat whether its at the sushi bar or the tables. The staff is great and very attentive. I go here everytime im in Vancouver. It is always a treat. Love this place. Best sushi in downtown. Bar None. Very affordable. Love this place. The hot spicy tofu sauce is a must.

    The lobster roll was delicious!

I've eaten here a few times since it relaunched as a somewhat upscale-feeling izakaya place in early February. Service has been really good recently. Comparing my first visit when it had just opened until about a week ago, the service has gotten much better. It was a little spotty at the beginning, but I think it was just the servers getting used to things. It's OK... just teething pains of any new restaurant. The food is very good. Some of my favourite small dishes are the beef tongue, the enoki beef, and chicken karaage. The grilled saba (whole fish) is very nice! The sushi is very fresh as well. We had quite a few types, but the lobster roll was outstanding! We splurged one evening and got the grilled Kobe steak. It certainly wasn't cheap, but it was prepared perfectly and made it all worth it! It's worth noting that they have Happy Hour from 2pm-6pm on weekdays. Great value on fresh oysters and various skewers!

Had the chef special. Good mix of quite a few Japanese items not commonly found in bento box. They have limited selection per day so don't be too late going to get it.

3.5 review The staff is nice and seated me quickly, but I also had a reservation. There were a few young ladies sitting waiting to be seated at when I arrived but - felt like perhaps they have been ignored for a while. Presentation on the dishes were pretty good. There was an instant where we could not name 1 of the raw fish in the dish was as it is because it is rarely served here. ( I will give you a hint. If you look at one of my photos with the sashimi plate - there is Salmon, there is Tuna, there is ???. ) Once you find out what it is, you will know why it's rarely served. The food is quite nice here, but no one really comes to check up on you how everything is tasting. One of the waitresses was very kind to help us take a group photo at the end of our dinner. I must say though, they were pretty keen on refilling our tea cups during our meals.

Maybe it's an American thing to linger and enjoy a dining experience. To stay longer than needed to…read moresoak up the ambiance and give a good moment some extra time for memories. But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. People who haven't been to an izakaya may think it's loud and noisy, but the point of izakayas is they're supposed to be vibrant, high energy, and filled with cheerful chatter. Think of a tapas-style pub/bar for people to unwind and gather to chat after a long day at work. I loved the atmosphere, as it's casual, entertaining, and lively. Me, I know nothing about Izakaya or what is or isn't authentic Japanese cuisine, so this review is coming from someone with zero knowledge or expectation of any specific foods or experiences. Despite it being a weeknight, the place was packed. It was good that we had a reservation. There was a couple in line before me and they were walk-ins, and there were no available seats for them. I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. (I'm too old for the loudness!).

We picked up the 16-piece Premium Cut Rolls (toro, yellowtail, scallop, and truffle lobster), and the quality really showed in the taste. Everything was clean, fresh, and well-balanced -- no heavy sauces, no distractions, just really good fish. The toro was rich and smooth, the scallop was buttery, and the truffle lobster added a nice depth without overpowering the roll. Pickup was quick and seamless, and the food was packaged well for eating on the go before a flight. Portions are standard, but the flavor and quality are absolutely the highlight here. If you care more about how sushi tastes than flashy extras, Hello Nori is a great choice. Would happily come back next time.

We started off with cocktails: kaiju en neguroni and peach pafekuto and they were both refreshing. We each ordered a few rolls and my fave is the unagi hand roll. The unagi was flame-torched right in front of me. Prices are on the expensive side with small portions, but everything tasted fresh.

Even on a Thursday night, the restaurant was nearly full, which speaks to its popularity. I ordered the Tako Sunomono and the Premium Chirashi Don. Tako Sunomono: The octopus was perfectly tender and the vinegar dressing was refreshing--exactly what I needed to wash away the fatigue of the day. Premium Chirashi Don: The presentation was stunning and immediately worked up my appetite. Every piece of seafood was incredibly fresh and of high quality. You can really taste the difference here. If you're looking for healthy, fresh, and beautifully presented Japanese cuisine, Shizenya is a must-visit. Highly recommended!
