Sometimes life throws you a curve ball that sends you down a path, or into something else that's totally unexpected, but turns out to be waaaaay better than you'd originally thought. We had dinner the previous night at Offspring and wanted to do a repeat... but they were closed for a private event, so we wandered the 150 feet to SOBO and I'm so glad we did! Situro greeted us at the door and informed us that although they had space, two other groups had just sat down so we'd be behind their service... which was just fine for a beautiful end of May evening. Service... attentive and complete. Nothing was left to chance. Food... utterly jaw droppingly delicious! The deviled eggs were elevated to a totally different level...very reminiscent of something that Thomas Keller may have put on a plate at French Laundry...YES, it was that good! The Yellowfin crudo had a tangy/ponzu sauce that helped to cut the fattiness of the tuna and made the dish light and bright, Then the salmon dish... pan seared but still damn near raw, with a sticky soy/ginger/molasses sauce..(in deference to my wife, I refrained from licking the plate!) I had modest expectations of Boonville...but I was stunned by the food scene and of course the magnanimity of the locals... well done! read more

Absolutely incredible. You need to stop here if you're in Boonville or even just passing through. We did the Interactive Sushi Experience, and it really was an experience. The fish was fresh, and everything was prepared with so much care. Major kudos to the chef, who was also chatting with everyone at the bar while preparing each dish. The service was great, too. There was such a strong balance between who I think was the owner, the chef, and the server. They worked really well as a team and were constantly checking in to make sure everything was going smoothly. It's a very small, quaint space with a small kitchen, so keep in mind that things may take a little time. This was one the best restaurant experiences we've ever had! The host was warm and generous and started the night by offering a warm floral scented towel. Then the real joy began. The food was incredible! Every plate was better than the last and all were perfectly seasoned and gorgeously plated. We live in SF but this tops anything we've had in the city. We loved everything about our experience at SŌBŌ. The service, the food, the owners, and the ambiance all deserve 5 stars. I highly recommend trying the wasabi eggs and ordering the temaki experience. They also have a great selection of sakes. We absolutely loved how fresh all the ingredients tasted and the option to create our own hand rolls and choose our own experience. The owners' dog, Arlo, also made our experience even more wonderful as he is the sweetest boy ever and came to check in on us. They were kid friendly and chef even made a cucumber avocado roll for our daughter. Thank you for a wonderful experience! We are so looking forward to coming back the next time we are in the area. Great addition to the valley. Good food plus two bottles of sake is always a good start to a weekend :) The restaurant has a cozy, cute, and convivial ambiance. Sitting at the sushi bar gives you a good view of the food prep which is fun. We ordered the sunomono, salmon sashimi, tuna hand roll, and mango salmon roll. All were delicious - we particularly enjoyed the mango salmon roll. The hand roll was also fun in that it was served like a taco vs rolled up in a cone. I recently enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the newly opened SOBO Sake Bar! The ambiance upon entering was very warm and the staff were really friendly. I ordered the butterfish plate and it was delicious! The fish was flakey and tender with a good torched color and the sauce coating it was so yummy! On the side was a fresh slaw that balanced the meal nicely and the sticky rice went perfectly. I also got the miso soup which was top notch as well! read more

What a cute little place in Boonville to eat. It's clean and welcoming. The owners are also very welcoming. The food is delicious and well made. I'm writing this review so that you will know what to expect. If you are used to sushi bars in the Bay Area or any other metropolitan location, you might be disappointed by the lack of selection at SŌBŌ Sake Bar. You will notice in the photos, no refrigerated sushi display case or sushi showcase. That is because there is none. The two kinds of sushi actually available are in plastic containers - pre cut in a fridge behind the bar. When we dinned, the menu had only two sushi items: Hamachi and Salmon only. Available in various rolls or Negri style. The edamame and Miso soup were excellent and the Wasabi Eggs were also delicious. But the lack of selection of other common sushi items was disappointing. Sadly, the service was unbelievably slow: taking over an hour for an order of three items. We think this place shows promise. But they are not there yet... read more

What a lovely addition to the valley. From the intimate dining room to the traditional sushi bar with a great selection of sakes, we love coming here. Service is outstanding every time with Sushi chef Christina and her partner Satoro treating everyone so well. We're excited to make this a regular stop when in the Valley. Sobo's is a gem in the Anderson Valley. The owners, Satoru and Christina (who is also the talented chef) are gracious and welcoming and set the tone for a yummy evening.
