S & D Stone and Tile has now responded to my review. Please note the owner's response never addresses the issue that led me to provide my review in the first place. I would like to point out that our job was an insurance claim, all the contractors were assigned by the insurance company. The only contractor we hired ourselves was S & D! Notably, you can see that my review never commented on the quality of work that his crew completed. They did a good job. The problem was the owner, who refused to communicate with us. We hired S & D in March... and due to the owners lack of response to our messages and calls, our job was not completed until the end of June. I would say, if you want to work with a company that refuses to return your calls or messages, then S & D is the company for you. read more

Steve seemed engaging and knowledgeable, and provided a competitive quote. Steve was helpful and while measuring our kitchen said he doesn't take any payment until he knows the customer is satisfied. He then worked through several layouts with us to get the best design and best use of the slabs. We live three hours away from his shop and he said he would bring our remnants, make some cutting boards and a backsplash for our larder pantry. On Jan 28th, the crew arrived in a timely fashion and worked all day installing our slab. We bought them pizza and we were very pleased with the craftsmanship. The mitered edges and seams looked great! His crew was polite and knowledgeable. However, when questioned about the remnants(from two slabs), cutting boards (2x) and larder pantry backsplash, one guy said they were not cut yet. They said they'd be in this area again the following week and could bring them. We withheld payment. Steve contacted us the next morning at 7 am demanding payment and insisting the remnants had been thrown away. When challenged, (he was supposed to use the sink cutout for cutting boards), he backpedaled and said they cut into them and he'd send us pictures so we could see what he was talking about. He never sent us pictures. Then he said he would use remnants from a similar slab and deliver them to us. Begrudgingly, we paid him. Then, crickets. My husband called him for over a week and he wouldn't answer. Finally, we used someone else's phone and he picked up right away. He stated he didn't answer my husband's calls because his whole crew had been out sick (but willing to answer a different number?) We continued to call him once a week, and then daily. We started texting, and he was short and seemed angry, insisting we were getting the pantry backsplash and cutting boards for free. He agreed to do it with the slabs we had paid for. I value integrity and honesty and expect people to stick to their word. He finally had one cutting board (about 8 1/2x11 in) and the pantry backsplash delivered on March 19th and we never heard another word. My feeling about this experience--we worked exceptionally hard as the customer to get the service and product we agreed to. I felt like there was dishonesty along the way and our remnants got legs and took a hike. It's unfortunate because the craftsmanship of Steve and his crew is impressive, but I wouldn't feel comfortable referring him to a family or friend based on our experience, particularly when there was multiple opportunities to make it right. read more

September 2020: We wanted to update our hall bath but found out the vanity was custom and we couldn't just use a replacement from Home Depot. We opted to sand and repaint the vanity, and have a new counter installed. We picked a sink based on their recommendation and they came and installed the counter and sink for us. Steve and his crew did a real nice job fabricating and installing the granite for our kitchen remodel. The results looked great and we were really happy with it. Steve is a really good guy and easy to talk to and work with. His prices are the best in town for a full fabrication project and he was the best out of 4 bids I had received. He promises to complete a job in 10 days but will typically do it in 5. In our case he was able to get from templating to installation in 7 business days. Also, Steve has a great rapport with Domus (see my review of them too) and was able to get me a great deal on the slabs we purchased direct from them. I had to deduct a star due to an additional charge for the edge we selected that was not spelled out in the quote/contract I signed. Originally he had quoted me an awesome deal, but even with the added charge his bid was still a good deal and the best bid out of 4. And also he was willing to work with me to reduce the charge to make the hit more bearable. Make sure you check on any fancy edge additional costs before you sign. Finally, he runs a small shop with a lot of customers, so he may tend to get busy and take a bit more time to return calls. In general communication was good, but we were surprised when they showed up to install without calling first, and luckily I was home to be there for the installation. Overall a good experience, but make sure you keep in close contact with him as the installation approaches, and review the quote with him in detail before you sign. read more

I spoke to Greg who got the ball rolling on our new kitchen countertops. He asked me to sketch out what we had and to send pictures to him. I was nervous because I'm no artist but he knew exactly what we wanted. The next step was to go pick out our quartz and he gave me a couple places to call/check out. We ended up ordering from a company from Minnesota. It took a few extra weeks because of Covid. Greg and Rob came out to demo for us. How wonderful to have our 80's two-tier island cut down to one level! It sure opened up our small kitchen. Then Rob came out to laser measure. It was wonderful to get to this stage. The company sent me pictures of our slabs and a mock picture of each slab cut to our kitchen specifications. Then Rob and a couple of guys came out to install. I was speechless! We have had nothing but compliments from our neighbors/friends. Rob, even came back out to do our tile backsplash. I would highly recommend S and D - especially Greg and Rob. Thanks guys! read more

S&D is definitely a great place to have your custom countertop fabricated and installed. I shopped around and got bids by emailing a drawing with measurements of my kitchen. I went with S&D because of the other reviews on here and because the price was very good and because of how fast they same out and installed the countertops. Heres the timeline: 1) I pick out and buy a granite slab from arizona tile in Roseville. They allow you to put a hold on slabs for free for one week before you need to pay for out and set it aside. I picked out a closeout slab and saved some money since I only needed one slab. 2) Steve measures my kitchen on a Friday. 3) The following Monday Arizona Tile says they can deliver the slab to Steve's shop by Thursday. 4) I visit on Friday after the slab is delivered and layout how each piece will be cut from the slab. 5) On Wednesday the slab is installed. That's fast!! S&D's crew came out during the one hour window like they promised and everything went smoothly even when I didn't have the straightest cabinets. They used shims to keep everything level and it turned out great. I have small galley kitchen and they did it with no seams. Here are some tips I learned when I went shopping for countertops: - Always get as many bids as possible. Do more than 3 if you have time. - Some shops act like they are too busy for your job or give you a high bid or long install date like a month away. They are out for the most money so if you don't need demo of your old countertops, plumbing, or electrical then you don't generate a lot of money so you are basically small potatoes to them. S&D was not like that and they were polite and cool people. - Read reviews like on yelp and Angies List and check BBB and the contractors license board. - Just because your friend had a good experience with an installer doesn't mean you will since every job is unique. - Always use a professional in the craft if you want a professional job. I recently used Steve and his crew at S&D tile for my kitchen granite counters. We talked to several contractors, including the leading Sacramento "pre-fabricated" granite contractor, before deciding to go with S&D. While we were initially attracted to the pre-fabricated counters due to the lower labor cost, when we compared both estimates including material and demo we found the difference in cost was negligible. We went with custom counters with S&D for 3 reasons - better install quality and less seams, better customer service, and better granite selection. Steve is the owner of S&D - when you call, he is very attentive and if he can't answer he will get right back to you. He makes sure to answer all your questions thoughly and promptly. My wife and I work in the construction management industry and expect a level of quality higher than the average customer. Steve will not only deliver the quality you expect, but will work with you on your budget. I received 4 bids from the best rated Sacramento area tile contractors. S&D's was the most competitive, but still was a bit out of our budget. He worked with us to get our project within budget by extending his contractor discount on materials and suggesting some ways we could cut costs. Once we had the slabs purchased, we reviewed the layout at his shop to ensure we were 100% satisfied. When demo day came, the house the as clean as when we left it that morning. When the counters were installed, he matched the seams up perfectly and arranged the granite to maximize the amount we purchased and to achieve the best look possible. Also, all S&D employees at my house were very courteous, respectful, and left the house spotless. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the workmanship and the cost. Stay VERY VERY clear of this business. My saga started way back in May when Robert told us that if we bought our slab, they would start the rest of the work and the process could take anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks. That sounded good and we bought are Slab. I should have known then, this was a big mistake as they could not even bill us for the slab right. My husband had to physically drive to their business and provide a check, as he couldn't send the link to the correct email...Well 2 to 3 weeks is just the beginning of many, many lies. We have been waiting for over 3 months to have our countertops completed. We gave them the benefit of the doubt considering the pandemic, however we were told every excuse in the book, from they lost our slab, machine down, firing a lead worker, etc. This was for the entire month of June. I would have loved to have backed out, but we had already bought our slab! Also, while waiting all this time they also had the audacity to bill me for the rest of the work that wasn't scheduled yet and also bill me for the demo we did ourselves! (We really felt like we had to, since they seemed to not be able to even get that scheduled) We would call weekly to see what was going on, and they would say they would call us back...and they wouldn't. They finally called after a few weeks and gave us July 12th as demo. were so excited to get this nightmare over with, we got our kitchen ready. We moved all our stuff, including the refrigerator and oven. ...but then knowing the history of this company,..we decided to call them one more time to confirm and were told that they moved our day to the 26th, and that they texted us. The 26th came and went and nothing. Then we did get a text on July 30th, confirming that we were scheduled for August 2nd. We replied back to confirm to be told, oh no, it won't be the 2nd. Robert stayed it would never be a Monday and it It will be another week!! What!?? Finally, we get a call yesterday, the 10th of August stating they would do our install tomorrow (today) between the hours of 11 am and 1 pm. I scheduled to work half a day, l showed up to work just to turn around again since they were at my house at 7 am! I guess it's 11 am somewhere??First thing the installer says is where is my sink? Then installers were nice enough, however they didn't want to believe me that "Robert " had My sink. Robert, the owner, who is less than reliable as you can see, had taken it when he did our template months ago...The installer says " no, the work order says it's here" I literally had to argue this, until he decided to call "Robert" This company is a complete sham and lacks integrity . You can not believe a word they say. They left us kitchen-less for months, without even an apology. I would definitely not recommend them to anyone, not even my worst enemy. read more

I've been flipping homes in Sacramento and have used many granite guys to do install on my properties. This install that S&D did for me for the first time was different because it was my wife's kitchen that she has custom designed. Because of the difficulty to install my island, many of my granite guys didn't want to take on such a big job because they were too afraid to brake the slab. Long story how I got a hold of Steve (owner). When I first met him at my house he was very professional and knowledgeable and gave me a good vibe. Again, this was my wife's kitchen and all I wanted was a perfect install on my granite to make her happy. Long story short, I went with S&D. I was present when they were doing all the install and I was amazed by their professionalism and speed. Again, I've worked with several granite guys in the past and the way S&D cut, handled and installed my granite was just amazing! When my wife returned from work that day she called me and said the granite looked amazing and she loved it. It wasn't an easy install; in fact, S&D had to remove some cabinets out to install the bar top which they did and nothing was damaged. Anyway, my island measures 78"x75". It required 4 S&D guys to install it but it seemed so easy because they were all just so good I strongly encourage you to do your install with S&D. I do believe that will give you the best quote in town, but even if it's higher that any other quote, it's definitely worth paying the extra bucks. I want to first say go to Home Depot thats on you. I have NEVER had a good experience with countertop company before. I drove down to S&D and spoke with the employees and explained what I needed and how to go about having a vanity done. I was told pick out what you want and when you are ready we will come out and measure and fabricate. I was a little skeptical. I came back and this time spoke with Steve and he says find what you like call and we will come out, a couple days later I call and I know this does not happen everyday but Steve picks up the phone and says we will be out today. I was surprised to say the least. A employee of Steve arrives and immediately goes right to work. I was told about a week and because I have scheduling issues I was constantly in communication and I was surprised every time there was a response sometimes just a few minutes a couple times just under an hour. I thought to myself wow they care to communicate and are responsive to the customer. I think that is a lost art in business (not here) The day of install which I was not home but my wife was and she said S&D installers were so professional and did such a great job. I want to point out that I bought a sink that was lets say challenging for the installers and they overcame the hurdle. I will only recommend S&D to friends and family. I have had granite from two different companies and Home Depot. The bottom line Home Depot contracts with companies that don't have attention to detail. S&D does just that Myself like everyone else knows countertops are literally a pain in the ass and feels like you are dealing with a used car salesman. S&D treats their clients very well and does a great job with attention to detail. The trades as everyone knows could use a little dose of humility when it comes to communication. Communication is terrible. I had to each out to them every step of the way. Hired them on 5/10. Slabs were ordered from Bedrosian 5/11. On 5/24, they finally did the template. 5/28 I follow up on installation date, I had to call multiple times to get an update only to be told that the material they received were warped and unworkable on 6/9! I had to look for something else, but everything I liked was on backorder. 6/11 I reached out to the supplier to see when they expect to get more of the original material. I got lucky as they received new supply that day and would hold them for me to exchange. I let S&D know right away of this. With a lot of they said/they said, I scheduled the exchange myself on 6/20! The next day, I'm told the second set were warped worse! Fine, the material condition was out their control. 6/22 I went to MSI to find something else. I was fortunate to find they had something I really liked in stock. In hopes to avoid further delay, I asked them to hold 3 slabs for S&D to order (they only work with contractors). I sent the info immediately to S&D, but they didn't even call MSI to even price the material until days later! More follow ups about material delivery, layout and install. 7/1 They're asking me for another materials check because these slabs costs more than the original we ordered and paid for. 7/12 still waiting to find out about delivery of materials. I told them I wouldn't pay for anything until they get the material because of their poor communication. More blaming on the supplier. 7/21 finally get an update that the material arrived the week before and that we'll finally get the layout by 7/23 or maybe 7/26. I had to follow up on 7/26 to get the layout that evening. 7/27 finally was told we'll have install on 7/30 or 8/2 at the latest. Again, I had to follow up on 7/30 to find out if we're actually on schedule that day or Monday. I redirected me to somone who does the scheduling. I follow up on Sunday to make sure we're getting installed on Monday and instead was told, it might actually be Tuesday. I had a hardwood repair/refinish scheduled for wednesday and told them it needed to be done by Tuesday at the latest. They ended up on showing up on Monday. After they left, I find out the back splash that was templated to butt up to the bottom of the cabinets went up past the cabinets on one side of a window, while the other side will be butting up a set or open shelving! I reached out to find what givesbecause they failed to mention this when they pointed out other things while they were installing. 8/23, I'm still waiting for a response! read more

The quote from S&D for our granite bar top was 30% lower than the prefab places that we visited, so we were wondering how it would turn out. We couldn't be more happy with the work they did. The stone they found was gorgeous; far superior to any we had seen elsewhere. The seams are all perfectly fitted and matched. A week after the job is finished and my wife still stands there and admires our great new addition to our dining room. You really have to call these guys if you want to get granite counters. read more

I set out to get my kitchen remodeled, acquiring several quotes from different contractors. Because I had also been set on getting granite counter tops, a friend of mine referred me to Steve at S & D Custom Stone & Tile. After talking to them they were able to set me up with other contractors to do my complete kitchen remodel along with the Stone Work they are known for. I did not need to go any further with getting quotes, they beat every quote I had previously gotten. They did such GREAT WORK that I also decided to remodel both of my bathrooms. Their work IS CUSTOM, they are very PROFESSIONAL and MEET ALL DEADLINES. I am amazed with my home and love to show it off. They changed my ordinary home into a custom home. I didn't want to give this company any stars however, it wasn't allowing me to post without at least one. The owner came out on a Thursday to give us a quote and stated we would have it by Sunday of that week. Well Sunday came and went with no quote. We gave him until Tuesday and called to see what the status was. He stated oh yeah it's done I will send it when I get back to the shop. Well it's been over two weeks and we never received our quote. We just recently had Steve fabricate and install new granite countertops - and install a tile backsplash - in our kitchen, and we are SO glad we did. Steve and his crew did an awesome job with fabrication and installation. We received excellent customer service with S&D, and we were able to be involved in the process from start to finish. Steve, Carlos, Juan, Luis, Rob, and Donnie, were knowledgeable, skilled, friendly and professional. We have worked with other granite and tile folks who were not honest and did sub-par work. Not so with Steve!. He is honest, upfront, and does beautiful work. We are so blessed with our new kitchen ... and we are having Steve do more work for us. S and D did a wonderful job installing granite countertop and tile backsplash in our house. Also, we were able to save money on the material using their contractor discounts. We are very happy with the results and save quite a bit of money on the project. However, we have not moved into the house and they left the heater on overnite during the week or two that they worked on the house. My December electricity bill was over $200. But overall, we would use them again. read more

Met Steve Vasquez over the internet as I submitted drawings over the internet. Received a call that morning along with a quote. It was so low, I asked to meet with him first. I did and walked away quite confident. We picked out our slab and Arizona Tile contacted Steve. He picked up the slab, 3cm, came to my house, measured for the fit and was there as promised. My wife is absolutely thrilled with the job and a happy wife, is a happy life. Absolutely would recommend him. He was by far, far superior to the first granite experience a few years ago that we had with prefab granite. I was sending his name and email to my wife who is giving it to one of her co-workers as soon as I am done writing this review. I did not ask for the money off for the Angies list referral.
