Excellent little diner! It is very small (ten tables I think) but sooo great. We always have the same sweet waitress who pays close attention to our drink refills and when we want our check. This is important and much appreciated. When it comes to breakfast I am normally an eggs and bacon kind of girl and here these are done very well. Omlettes are stuffed and cooked to perfection. The bacon is always crispy and neaver underdone. On our last visit I got strawberry French toast. I've been dreaming of that ever since. It was rich, savory and so dang good you guys! What S&H lacks in size and fanciness it more than makes up in atmosphere and food. S&H is a small and unassuming place. It's so unassuming that I have passed it probably hundreds of times without giving it a second look. The other day I was in the mood for breakfast and I wanted to try something new and when I searched Yelp, this place popped up. "Oh Yeah", I thought. "That's that little place with good eats in their name. If they put it on their sign, it must be true". Well I am here to tell you that it is true. This place has a great breakfast. The dining area is small. I think I counted seven tables of varying sizes, but I'd bet no more than 25 people could dine here at once. When I walked in it was packed and the only table available was right by the door and dirty. The waitress cleaned it quickly and down I sat. Service was prompt, friendly and I was made to feel like a regular. Since I was alone I had time to eavesdrop on the other tables which is always a nice accompaniment to people watching. Conversations ranged from firemen discussing recent calls they handled to old men discussing the recent gubernatorial election. I got the feeling that everyone in there, but me was a long time regular. Food was good to great. My western omelet had the perfect egg to stuffing ratio and was cooked perfectly. Omelets can be made many different ways, but this one was made just the way I like it. I opted for a side of a biscuit with gravy and home fries. The home fries were good, but not as amazing as the omelet. The biscuit and gravy was very good and should be something every red blooded american should try once in their life. What have I learned from this great experience? Next time I'm driving along and notice a small unassuming restaurant, I won't just pass it by. If you're looking for gourmet breakfast, go elsewhere. If you're looking for wonderful staples that will remind you of breakfast at Grandma's, you're in for a treat. I personally love their eggs and corned beef plate, with grits and a biscuit - all excellent. Where do you find corned beef anymore? It's a rare treat. Their other selections are as good, from waffles to omelettes. It's small though, and usually crowded, so be prepared to wait for a table. There is outside seating on the porch. read more

Hidden Gem! At first look, this restaurant in an older building doesn't look like much. Definitely don't judge this book by its cover! Food was very good. Service was attentive and courteous. I couldn't believe how fast we were served after ordering, and pricing was reasonable. My wife and I went on a whim, and were extremely satisfied with our pick. She had a large burrito with eggs on top that rivaled the best Mexican restaurants. I had the Vegetarian Omelette with Grits and a biscuit. Loved it. Surprisingly, when we went to leave, all the faces eating were new. Everyone sitting when we arrived, had already eaten and left. Don't let this little place fool you; they serve a lot of people. Weekend Getaway: NOLA - breakfast Second day in I took my 2 birthday fellas to breakfast. This shit was AWESOME. We had everything from steak to alligator Po'boy to a massive breakfast burrito and everything was simply divine. The joint is small. Really small. Maybe as big as a 3 bedroom house, which most had been converted to kitchen. Seating is limited!!! Maybe 6-7 tables in the "living room + dining room" space. The ladies work the kitchen and the tables. Friendly customer service and excellent food. Naturally, I chose the steak, eggs and potatoes. Coffee was average. Steak amazing, eggs cheesy (of course) and potatoes fried crispy on the outside tender on the inside. The alligator "looks" questionable but after a bite you'll have all your answers. The breakfast burrito stuffed with eggs, hash browns, sausage or bacon and cheese was a menu favorite. They offer pies and other sweets that are definitely worth trying to stuff yourself with. read more

So what does S&H stand for? That's easy: you come here because you're Smart & Hungry, and you leave here feeling Satisfied & Happy. Homemade goodness all around, nothing tastes like it came frozen in a Sysco box. What more can I say? Daily specials for lunch, obscene large portions for breakfast for cheap, cheap, cheap! We drive 45 minutes to dine here and it's worth every second. read more

My fishing partner and I travel to Louisiana twice a year to fish in Houma. We usually leave Georgia at midnight and hit Slidell between 6:30 and 7:30 AM. The last few trips, we've eaten at the same location; however, we were looking for something different this time around. A Google search for "best breakfast in Slidell, Louisiana" turned up S&H Good Eats Café. It looked like a genuine mom-and-pop restaurant, so we decided we'd give it a try. So, on October 4th of this year, we made it to Slidell at about 7 a.m. When we rolled up in the parking lot, I immediately noticed two police cruisers in the parking lot. Since nothing looked amiss, I took this as a good sign. I'm a retired police officer, and I know police won't eat at places that aren't good. We went in, and sure enough, the mom-and-pop vibe was strong. The place was moderately busy, with about eight people and two of Slidell's finest eating breakfast. We took a table in the corner to the left of the front door and were pleasantly greeted by the waitress. Truthfully, everything on the menu looked good; however, the waitress delivered a plate of chicken fried steak to the table next to ours, and that made up my friend's and my mind: chicken fried steak it was. I ordered grits with my plate, and my friend ordered hash browns with his. We weren't disappointed. Excellent food! Afterwards, we spoke with the police officers who directed us to the Jayne Mansfield crash site (we're history buffs). This is an excellent little mom-and-pop diner with a hometown vibe. My daughter and I stopped here for breakfast; we ordered the #3 9oz Ribeye with eggs hashbrowns and wheat toast. The service and the food were great! The place is small and is not aesthetically appealing but that does not matter when you taste your food. I think the look just adds to the character of the place. Place looks a little run down, with broken front steps, and clearly hasn't been redecorated in a while. But it has a steady flow of loyal customers who come for the huge portions of breakfast favorites and their interesting breakfast specials. I had the "mini" breakfast burrito and it was GIGANTIC. I ate only half of it! My only suggestion would be to take it easy on the cheese - I would guess there was 6 ounces of cheese on it. The hash browns are fantastic, best I've ever had, and the biscuits are fluffin' fantastic. I can't wait to try something different on our next visit. read more

This was a surprisingly good spot. It is basically a no frills, hole in the wall spot. The dining area is small, we actually ended up sharing long table with another party to get seated. It's a friendly atmosphere, so it oddly worked. And when you're eating a pretty perfect omelet and some home fries, you don't really notice who's sitting next to you. The menu isn't big or ornate, but what is on there is prepared well and flavorful. This is the kind of place you expect to show up on Diners, Drive in and Dives one day. "Fresh and honest" is the phrase my brother uses to describe this restaurant. I would have to agree; everything coming out if the kitchen is freshly prepared (except the longer prep items like gumbo and bread pudding). The building doesn't look like much from the outside, except it does have a small porch, big enough to get in out of the rain. Paul C. and others call it a "hole-in-the-wall, and I have to agree; but I had no idea there is an ACTUAL HOLE IN THE WALL (I will add the photo). It seems a truck backed into the building, so the owners did a temporary fix. While I would like a few other niceties like homemade local jellies and and such, instead of the "fresh off the Sysco truck" packets, it's an acceptable compromise. The main disadvantage is, the few tables; it is difficult to find a spot during popular times. But the prices are great, considering the good quality of the food. THAT, my friends, is the price you pay, and why I give it five stars. Well, I will make a strong effort to visit S&H the next time I am in town. And I don't even care if they don't give me any Green Stamps! read more

Great prices, great food, awesome service. I got food to go but the staff was very friendly and helpful, even let me try the potato salad to make sure I liked it before Ordering it, it was great! Some of the best I've had. I ordered the build your own lunch which was an entree, two sides and dessert for 6.99! I got the ham and cheese croissant, great flavor, with gumbo and potato salad as the sides and bread pudding. So much food I couldn't even come close to eating it all! So on Monday I tried this Cafe after seeing coworkers on several occasion enjoying home cooked meals. Tried the white beans. Perfectly seasoned and with an added surprise of chicken in them. Different but delicious. On Tuesday I tried the breakfast. Delicious!!! So far we're batting 2/2. On today, LASAGNA. OMG, piping hot right out the oven, didn't even have time to set, which was alright by me. Absolutely what I've been craving for months and hadn't been able to find!! Once again perfectly seasoned and not overly cheesy. 10 out of 10. Kudos to the cook!!! read more
