Interviewing contractors to complete our dream home remodel, one of our neighbors recommended E and R home solutions. From the beginning, the company seemed like an old-fashioned business run by a nice family and a small amount of loyal employees. It took us almost a year to finally make our decision, but we moved forward with E and R home solutions because of their professionalism, list of client references (dating back to the 1990s!!!), competitive pricing, their architect seemed to know what he was doing, and they had all of the licenses required to work in Virginia to pull all permits. The job just finished before Christmas December 2025 and we just moved back in and are looking forward to a beautiful 2026 in this gorgeous new house that we have! To give some comments on their specific work, their kitchen, flooring and basement team did an amazing job. We are most impressed with the bathroom specialist that they had. We did spend extra money on material and tiled everything from floor to ceiling with beautiful glass shower doors, but the execution was just incredible and there are no errors or mistakes in any of the tile grouting. read more

This company has been around since the 1970s and our family has used them many times. 15 years ago they did a complete gut and remodel job for my grandma's house in McLean Virginia. Yes, they are actually licensed in Virginia!!! Our family has been super thrilled with the open concept kitchen, addition build out, bathroom remodels, and all of the work they did on the property 15 years ago. Part of the job was installing a brand new cedar roof, which looks absolutely stunning still to this day. We still use them for cleaning the roof and maintaining it and every time they clean it. The cedar roof looks as good as the first day they installed it. We've recommended this home improvement company to friends and family throughout the DMV area. Roofing and remodeling team was on time, performed all work as promised and was super helpful whenever I had any questions. My biggest shock was that they had their own trucks and branding on each of the trucks they had. The crew on the ground seemed like they really cared and walked the property at the end of every day to pick up nails using their magnet machine. This outfit tore out our old deck and built a beautiful new trex deck with aluminum railings. Their architect was extremely easy to work with and they got the permit within two months, and the job was completed within one and a half month. My 15 year old cedar shake roof needed cleaning and preserving. E&R gave me a reasonable quote. After seeing their work on neighboring homes I decided to have them do the work. Heidi scheduled the first work, cleaning. I was very impressed. I hoped the stain/preserving would be as good. I paid extra to have a brown color stain. Heidi again scheduled. Quite by chance, I noticed the E&R owner's rebuttal. I did not read it fully, but it is interesting that N Robb omitted the fact that he did everything to pursuade me to withdraw my review. For that purpose, he initiated Texting, left his business card in our mail box, and phoned me. For no price I would retract my review because the sole purpose of such a forum is the share truthful and candid review with other prospective clients who otherwise would be blind-sided. There is no axe to grind... at least not on our side. We walked away with an important lesson never to trust a sweet-talking contractor, without being vigilant. read more

Just had a contract completed to refurbish a columned walkway and several sides of our house that were beginning to show their age. What a beautiful job these artisans have done. It makes all the difference in the world and they were meticulously clean beyond their very high quality work. This is the E & R that we knew and respected from when they replaced our roof and did some major painting and internal bath-work a dozen years ago. We had them paint all the trim in our house. In the carpeted areas they painted so high that you can still see the old paint along the bottom. You can also see where they didn't tape the edges along the ceiling so some of the semi-gloss paint is on the ceiling. They also installed recessed lighting and left holes in the ceiling. When we called them to repair it they didn't sand their patch job and then painted over it leaving unsightly raised rough areas. In addition they didn't leave us any of the top quality paint we had paid extra for so we could do touch ups. I've never heard of a paint job that didn't have some paint leftover. We had to pay other painters come in afterwards to fix the ceilings. read more

Had another great experience working with Ed on some repair needed near the top of our roof due to storm (and related wind) damage. On a separate note, E&R had installed our new roof some years ago along with a number of neighbors in our townhouse complex. Our roof itself is still going strong. Ed responded quickly at every turn, communicated the process clearly as to what was needed to make the fixes, and sent follow up photos. He answered all of my questions and was very patient with this native New Yorker who doesn't know a whole lot about issues involving flashing and related repair near the top of a house roof due to wind/storm damage. Repair near a roof may not sound exciting, but it will save a lot of money long term from water damage that may result. Don't put it off. Used E&R "Cedar Save" service on a 10yr old aging roof that had accumulated a lot of moss/mold and hand them replace 6 skylights. I turn to E&R Home Solutions for all my home improvement needs...and all the catastrophes that happen, like the tree that fell on my shed and put out a couple windows in my family room. E&R removed the tree debris immediately, fixed the shed, and replaced the windows. They just replaced rotted siding, caulked where water was coming in, and painted the exterior of my house. It looks great and I now have peace of mind that my house is water tight! They did my roof earlier this year and neighbors comment on how great it looks...just like slate. After a major wind storm in March 2018, my roof and trim had damages. It was Friday morning and I called E&R out of the blue after googleing roof repair. The sales guy Ed was able to get someone to come here on the very next day. I had called 10 other companies before and nobody made an effort to come. On Saturday, Johnny came exactly at the promised time, 11am, and still with very high winds he and his very helpful colleague fixed the whole thing. I think the work was more than the previously thought as it had internal damages. They did not take shortcuts, they did not cut corners, they did an amazing job. Took them 2.5h to finish and I am very grateful and satisfied. Both Johnny and the other guy were very polite and I could not recommend them enough. Their price was very fair specially if you take into account it was a saturday emergency call in the middle of a storm when i bet they were very busy. BTW, 4 of my neighboors took E&R numbers to call to fix their houses as well! read more

I had a new roof installed by E&R a few years back and was satisfied with the service. Recently that roof has developed a leak. When calling to schedule an appointment to fix, I've encountered the absolute worst customer service. Called on a Monday and was told someone would call back to schedule. By Thursday, no call so I called again and was given an appointment for the following Tuesday, and that someone would call with a specific time. Tuesday came and went with no service call or phone call. Called again on Wednesday and was given an appointment for Thursday between 8:30 and 9:00. That time came and went with not even a phone call. My only assumption is that E&R does not back their work (warranty work) as they are avoiding my requests. I have no choice at this point but to cut my loses and find a more reputable, responsive and reliable provider that stands behind their work, unlike E&R. read more

We hired E&R to remodel our master bathroom. Neil Robb, the owner gave us some excellent suggestions before the work began. He also gave us the name of his suppliers so that we could receive his discount when we ordered the supplies. Henry and George who did the actual work were awesome. They kept us informed daily of what they had done and were great about keeping the dust out of our bedroom. We were extremely happy with the end result and also that they were able to complete the job in a week. In addition, they painted the entire bathroom which was a nice surprise. We are hoping to remodel our kitchen in the near future, and will hire E&R for that job as well. read more

We had a small crew, so the work did take a little longer, but the guys were excellent carpenters and did a really thorough job. Andrew and the team were responsive to our calls and requests. Clean up after the roof treatment was a little messy (slivers of cedar and a few old screws/nails lying around). Otherwise, very pleased with E&R. read more
