My friend who referred me to Robert/S&S Advanced Auto Repair more than a year ago was confident that he'd be able to solve the mystery of why my car's interior lights and one or both "door open" warnings would flash on or stay on while I was driving, even though all the doors were fully closed and locked. The problem was intermittent but occurred frequently enough that it was truly irritating. In my first review, I explained why Robert turned me into a loyal customer even though he wasn't able to diagnose my car's problem. I recently brought my car back to Robert for a couple of other issues and told him the lights and warning notices were still flashing. I left the car with him overnight so he could fix the new issues, and he said he'd try again to figure out what was going on with the lights and warnings. Naturally, because the car was with the mechanic, it was on its best behavior. Until it wasn't. Robert or one of his guys was driving it when the lights flashed, and because they had their computer equipment in the car when it happened, they were able to quickly diagnose the problem as a faulty door latch assembly in one of the doors. My friend was right. Robert and his team--through their experience, skill, perseverance, patience and having the right tools--was able to correctly diagnose a crazy intermittent problem. I approved replacing the faulty part, and the problem has vanished! I don't know what a different mechanic would charge to fix the problem that Robert correctly diagnosed. But I do believe that had I known about S&S from the start, I would have saved $300 by not taking it to the other mechanic that charged me to try this and then try that. With so much lack of trust & honesty in this type of business I want to give props to this location. With a recommendation from a prior auto repair shop that we trusted we brought our adult daughter's 2011 Subaru which needed a lot of undone maintenance. He was fair, they did all the work on time and remain accountable for their work! They were cost effective in our view & very professional. My one concern was that " they prefer cash" instead of card. Now their reasoning is to avoid the .03% they pay on credit cards although I don't see a debit card charging .03%. Isn't that there cost of doing business with credit cards, although plus to allow more business to come their way? Strange to me. read more

We had a problem with our air conditioner (it was blowing hot air) instead of cool. Turns out that rats bit holes somewhere (too technical for me) and Toyota of Carlsbad quoted us about $800 to $1400 for the job that was completely done by S&S for $250 with new freon!!!! Oh my heavens they saved us money we did not have!!! I am referring all my friends to them and my husband and I are extremely grateful for HONEST mechanics. My husband had to wait because we only have one car and they were super quick and respectful that he was waiting and did it very quickly. So the AC went out completely in my 2006 Honda CRV. I took it to the Honda dealer for a diagnosis they wanted $4000 and said there were several parts that needed to be replaced. I posted a add ok n the Nextdoor app asking for reccomendations from my neighbors that have had AC work done. A few people suggested S&S so I made a appointment and went in for another diagnosis. It ended up needing less parts replaced then Honda said and costed me less then half the price ! Spoke with Robert (the owner) about my air conditioning system. I was working to replace some of my own parts, and he evacuated the refrigerant for a very reasonable price. He also gave me some additional tips on symptomatic issues and a reasonable quote for a refrigerant system recharge. ($100). They are busy every time I bring any of my cars in and Robert will find a way to fit the car in if it's really needed. His crew is always friendly and get the job done. Prices are very fair. I was fairly blown away. Needed spark plugs badly, and some A/C work. Both were done correctly, and the pricing was fair. They suggested replacing a torque strut which I knew was in need - took care of that as well. I was expecting to pay more for the services I needed, and was very happy with the final cost. I was recommended S & S thru a custom buggy shop to rewire my VW power chopper trike. They kept it a year, left it outside, and rusted all the chrome. Since picking it up, it has had nothing but electrical glitches. I'm paying someone again to do it properly. If this is indicator their work, I don't know how they stay in business. read more
