    Key lime pie
    Aidan R.

The service was amazing, gave us some great recommendations. I got steak and shrimp fajitas with rice and sweet potato fries, literally so good and so fresh. The key lime pie here, in my humble opinion, is the best on the island. Vibes are good, would dine again (or just come back for the pie )

This is a fun little roadside sports bar with great food. We ordered the club sandwich and the mahi BLT. Both very hearty portions and the fries were hot and delicious. The outside seating is fun with the thatch roof and highway decor, but there is quite a bit of road noise since you're right next to the highway. Worth a stop on your way through the Keys!

The place for key lime pie. Recommended by a local, we stopped here while staying on Marathon Key. It was incredible. We tried key lime pies from several other places during our stay, but this one remained our favorite.

Great little bar and restaurant! We enjoyed a very stiff Caribbean Rum Runner before ordering our dinner. My lovely wife had their fish dip which she definitely had to share with me. OMG so delicious and smoky. Then she had their Coconut shrimp app. which I was told was fantastic. I had their 1/2 pound of cold shell on shrimp with horseradish sauce. The shrimp were fresh and so flavorful then I enjoyed the 1/2 pound mushroom and Swiss burger with fries. They ask how done you'd like it cooked and it was perfectly cooked how I asked. Rare and bloody MMMMM! The fries were seasoned perfectly and soft inside. Then the BEST part of our meal was their Key Lime pie. The best I'd say around! The whole place is warm and cozy and clean. The restroom was also clean and well stocked. We will be definitely coming back.

After a morning at the Dolphin Research Center nextdoor, my family and I wanted lunch before leaving the Keys. Lucky for us, S.S. Wreck & Galley Grill was mere steps away and had something for everyone to eat. I got the catch of the day (mahi) grilled Key West style (includes lemon, garlic, and thyme) on a sandwich with fries, my wife had the club sandwich (no tomato) with fries, one kid had chicken strips with fries, and the other had grilled cheese with fries. Of course, for dessert we had key lime pie. The prices are higher than other restaurants, but all of the food tasted great and the portions are huge. In particular, my wife raved about her club sandwich and the bite I tried was excellent. They key lime pie could have been a little more tart, but was still the best non-chocolated dipped version we sampled on our trip. Matt was a fantastic server. Kudos to him.

We were driving down to Key West and needed a break. Checked Yelp for something near by that allowed dogs. This place allowed us to bring the dog, so we stopped. Glad we did! Super friendly server who recommended the prime rib. We ordered one large one and split it. Was very good. Not really a prime rib person, but it was good. We had lots left over. The dog enjoyed the leftovers for a couple days. We tried the key lime pie too. Excellent! Was plenty for two to share. Our server said it was award winning. I am sure it is. The restaurant had a nice island tropical vibe and I would absolutely stop here again!

Fun place and great service! Nothing on the menu was something I would like personally but I'm a huge picky eater so that's okay. None of my friends had any complaints with their orders or our amazing server. Expect to pay about $30 for a meal here.

Stopped in for dinner on a weekday night. Sat instantly. Service was great! Good music playing in the background. Ample seating for small and large parties. Menu has a large variety of options for all pallets. We started off with the Coconut Shrimp, which is served with a delicious sauce. Highly recommend! 10/10 appetizer. The Mahi BLT was fresh and battered to light perfection. I added chipotle sauce, which took it up a notch. Spouse claimed the buffalo chicken sandwich was a good choice. Saw others mentioned the Key Lime Pie so I took one to go since we were too full to eat one on site and it did not disappoint one bit!! It was phenomenal and a must have if you fancy key lime pie.

A waiter sent us to SS Wreck when we mentioned our quest to find the best key lime pie in the keys. Out of the ones we had, this was my favorite in taste and texture. We ordered a piece to go, and I was bummed to see that it was in styrofoam. In addition to being landfill bound, Styrofoam becomes an endocrine disruptor when exposed to heat. This is not healthy... and can be dangerous to those who have a disease impacted by testosterone or estrogen.

What a great spot to hit up on your way in our out of the Key's. The food was great, service was friendly, and do t forget to try the Key Lime Pie. Best I've had all week. From the seafood to the hamburgers for the kids everything was enjoyed to the last bite.

How many people did that meal pass before it got to me that would have stopped it from leaving the kitchen? The chef, the expeditor, the owner - he was there at the pass and let out leave too. I would never go back!

Absolutely no complaints about the food or service. The cocktails left a little to be desired however; very small cups that we found lacking in flavor, but they looked tropical. Went in for their happy hour and ordered the smoked wings. It was a great deal for 6 good size wings for only $5. You can't get a wing for under a dollar anymore these days so I decided to try them out since they're a BBQ spot and probably smoked the wings pretty good. I was surprised to find out that they make their own blue cheese and ranch sauces. They were super good and haven't had great ranch and blue cheese sauce with a bunch of decent sized blue cheese chunks in a while. I also tried their BBQ sauce and it wasn't bad, not too sweet and pretty smokey. Great deals on a pint ($5) and pitcher ($16) of Florida Keys Brewing Co beers. I think it may even beat the actual brewery's prices. I noticed their AC was blowing pretty good and strong. It was a cooler day when I went so I got a little chilly but I'm sure that is a huge bonus when it's the hot summer time there. The bartender was busy with all the football games playing on the big TVs but she was attentive and seemed to have given me the best service she could. I was very pleased with this establishment and would like to come back again.

Herbie's Bar & Chowder House in Marathon has been operating under that name since 1963, with roots…read moregoing back to the 1940s as Maggie's Chowder House and later Fishnet's. It's legitimately one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants in the Florida Keys, which gives it a lot of built-in credibility before you even sit down. Walking up to it, you feel that history. The exterior, the gravel lot, the signage--it's pure roadside Keys. Inside, it leans into that "local bar meets tourist stop" vibe: long wooden bar, TVs, stickers everywhere, taps lined up. Then you open the menu and it pivots in every direction--New England chowder house, BBQ joint, burger shack, seafood spot. It's not clear what it wants to be, and that lack of focus carries straight through to the food. We started with both chowders. The clam chowder looks right at first glance, but the texture tells you everything--thick, almost gluey, clearly roux-heavy. The flavor leans aggressively fatty, closer to margarine than butter, with very little clam presence. No briny backbone, no pepper, no lift. We ended up dumping in black pepper and hot sauce just to make it remotely acceptable--but even then, that heavy fat note kept pushing through. Nothing about it reads as New England. The conch chowder fares a bit better. You can actually see a decent amount of conch, and there's a peppery edge that helps. But the broth is thin and lacks the chunky, stewed tomato depth you expect from a proper Keys-style conch chowder. After having it done right earlier at Key Largo Fisheries, the difference was obvious. Then there are the Texas Twinkies--and the photo really says it all. On paper, this should work: jalapeños wrapped in bacon, stuffed with brisket, pulled pork, cheeses, and sauce. In execution, it's just too much. Too much cream cheese, too many competing sauces, meats chopped into a soft, indistinct filling. It collapses into a heavy, muddy bite that feels more overwhelming than satisfying. Looking back at the menu, the simpler move--burger, ribs, even wings--probably would have been the right call. Instead, we ordered straight into the identity crisis. And that theory held up. We went back and grabbed a burger later--cooked a proper medium rare, with well-done, crispy fries--and it was easily the best thing we had from them. I wanted to like Herbie's. There's history, personality, and clearly a loyal following. But between the confused concept and uneven execution, the move here is simple: stick to the basics.
