My wings were undercooked and rubbery even though I asked for extra crispy and my Greek salad was equally pathetic. It was just bad food. Not one ounce of care went into the preparation. I'm searching for something nice to say about the food but cannot. Of course when most of our meals were left on our plates and we didn't want a box the server asked if the food was ok. We let her know it wasn't good. The cook took 20% off the check. Whatever. What we wanted was an edible meal. The service was good. The outside deck is fine. Please don't eat here.

I ordered the Churrasco skirt steak medium rare. The taste was quite good. A few parts were very rare, a few parts were done medium well, but most of it was as ordered. The rice tasted good, but was not very warm at the time it was delivered to the table. The onion rings looked really good, but the taste was lacking. I give the rings 3*s. My wife has the Ahi Tuna dinner. She gave it 5*s. Large portion. Great taste. Very good sauces. The worst part of the experience was payment at the end. Yhey shove a screen in front of your face with the server standing over you as you are asked to pick a tip percentage. There is no breakdown of what the charges are or how the tip is calculated. There was an option for a printed receipt, which I selected, but never got a receipt. If my wife had not been so happy with the tuna, I would have given them 3*s.

Went in for their happy hour and ordered the smoked wings. It was a great deal for 6 good size wings for only $5. You can't get a wing for under a dollar anymore these days so I decided to try them out since they're a BBQ spot and probably smoked the wings pretty good. I was surprised to find out that they make their own blue cheese and ranch sauces. They were super good and haven't had great ranch and blue cheese sauce with a bunch of decent sized blue cheese chunks in a while. I also tried their BBQ sauce and it wasn't bad, not too sweet and pretty smokey. Great deals on a pint ($5) and pitcher ($16) of Florida Keys Brewing Co beers. I think it may even beat the actual brewery's prices. I noticed their AC was blowing pretty good and strong. It was a cooler day when I went so I got a little chilly but I'm sure that is a huge bonus when it's the hot summer time there. The bartender was busy with all the football games playing on the big TVs but she was attentive and seemed to have given me the best service she could. I was very pleased with this establishment and would like to come back again.

They have a few ceiling-mounted fans to try to keep the heat at bay. The shrimp poboy and onion rings were superb, and the wife really loved the grilled chicken sandwich and fries. Absolutely no complaints about the food or service. The cocktails left a little to be desired however; very small cups that we found lacking in flavor, but they looked tropical. Otherwise, everything was great and we'd definitely visit again.

Next, we had to get an order of the delish oysters Rockefeller, smothered with creamy spinach, and tons of lemon juice. Wow those gulf oysters are wonderful ! So Tender. For our main, we got the Grouper Fish Sammie's with fries & coleslaw. I had mine blackened, and my husband went with classic. The fish was so fresh and seasoned perfectly. Don't miss this gem on your way down the keys.

During a recent day trip to the Florida Keys, I was determined to find a restaurant with beautiful…read moreocean views, and I'm so glad I discovered Lazy Days South! The only challenge was parking. The spaces were pretty tight, and several cars were parked over the lines, making it a little difficult to find a spot. Luckily, just as we arrived, someone was leaving, so it felt like it was meant to be. We walked in without a reservation and were seated almost immediately. The host gave us a warm welcome, and we were lucky enough to get a table outside with a stunning oceanfront view. The scenery alone made the visit worthwhile. Before arriving, I had looked over the menu and was happy to see they offered vegetarian and vegan-friendly options. I ordered the pasta with mushrooms, which was prepared with olive oil instead of a cream-based sauce. It was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. My niece ordered the Chicken Key West, which is similar to chicken Parmesan, and my sister had the house salad. Since pasta comes with a choice of soup or salad, I opted for the salad as well. One of the most memorable parts of the experience happened shortly after we sat down. The staff tossed leftover fish scraps into the water, attracting several large fish right below the restaurant. Watching them feed was such a unique and entertaining experience that added to the charm of dining by the water. Another little touch that I loved was when I went to the restroom. They had a locally made salt sugar scrub available for purchase, and it smelled so good that we ended up buying one to take home. I always appreciate when restaurants support local businesses. They also had complimentary key lime mints, which were absolutely delicious and such a fun Florida Keys touch. Our waiter was fantastic throughout the entire meal. He was attentive, friendly, and efficient. He kept our water glasses full, brought out bread promptly, checked on us regularly, and had the check ready as soon as we were finished. The food also arrived at a great pace. Unfortunately, I couldn't try any of their cocktails since I had to drive back to Miami afterward, but they looked delicious. Hopefully, on my next trip to the Keys, I'll be able to stay longer and enjoy one of their drinks. Overall, Lazy Days South has that classic old-Florida, laid-back atmosphere that feels welcoming and timeless. Between the beautiful ocean views, good food, unique waterfront experience, thoughtful local touches, and excellent service, it's definitely a place I'll be returning to on my next visit to the Keys.

However, the restaurant itself didn't seem particularly busy, with plenty of open tables throughout our visit. We waited nearly 20 minutes before our drink and food order was taken, and it took a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes from the time we were seated until our food arrived. The food itself was mediocre and bland, especially after such a long wait. Inside, several tables remained unbussed, so we chose to sit outside. Unfortunately, the fan and light above our table weren't working, making the outdoor seating extremely hot and uncomfortable, even at 8 PM. I understand that busy nights happen, but the combination of the long wait, average food, maintenance issues, and overall lack of attention to the dining experience made this a disappointing visit.

It's legitimately one of the oldest continuously operating restaurants in the Florida Keys, which gives it a lot of built-in credibility before you even sit down. Walking up to it, you feel that history. The exterior, the gravel lot, the signage--it's pure roadside Keys. Inside, it leans into that "local bar meets tourist stop" vibe: long wooden bar, TVs, stickers everywhere, taps lined up. Then you open the menu and it pivots in every direction--New England chowder house, BBQ joint, burger shack, seafood spot. It's not clear what it wants to be, and that lack of focus carries straight through to the food. We started with both chowders. The clam chowder looks right at first glance, but the texture tells you everything--thick, almost gluey, clearly roux-heavy. The flavor leans aggressively fatty, closer to margarine than butter, with very little clam presence. No briny backbone, no pepper, no lift. We ended up dumping in black pepper and hot sauce just to make it remotely acceptable--but even then, that heavy fat note kept pushing through. Nothing about it reads as New England. The conch chowder fares a bit better. You can actually see a decent amount of conch, and there's a peppery edge that helps. But the broth is thin and lacks the chunky, stewed tomato depth you expect from a proper Keys-style conch chowder. After having it done right earlier at Key Largo Fisheries, the difference was obvious. Then there are the Texas Twinkies--and the photo really says it all. On paper, this should work: jalapeños wrapped in bacon, stuffed with brisket, pulled pork, cheeses, and sauce. In execution, it's just too much. Too much cream cheese, too many competing sauces, meats chopped into a soft, indistinct filling. It collapses into a heavy, muddy bite that feels more overwhelming than satisfying. Looking back at the menu, the simpler move--burger, ribs, even wings--probably would have been the right call. Instead, we ordered straight into the identity crisis. And that theory held up. We went back and grabbed a burger later--cooked a proper medium rare, with well-done, crispy fries--and it was easily the best thing we had from them. I wanted to like Herbie's. There's history, personality, and clearly a loyal following. But between the confused concept and uneven execution, the move here is simple: stick to the basics.

I'm not a picky eater by any means, but the food was extremely underwhelming. I ordered the burger, and it had almost no flavor. My wife ordered the Philly cheesesteak, and it was topped with what tasted like individually wrapped processed cheese, which really took away from the sandwich. Our soft drinks were flat and served in very small plastic cups. For about $70 for two entrées and an appetizer, we expected much better quality. The outdoor seating was covered with picnic tables, which was a nice break from the Florida sun and probably the most comfortable part of the meal. The atmosphere, however, wasn't what we expected. The staff spent much of the time sitting at a nearby table using profanity, and we never felt particularly welcome. As visitors, we got the impression that locals were the priority and tourists were just passing through. The one bright spot was the property itself. Seeing the Key deer and colorful chameleons wandering around made for some great photos and was honestly the highlight of our visit. Maybe this is a better stop if you're looking for a place to grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere, but based on our experience, we wouldn't come back for the food.
