I was very disappointed in this place. I work down the road and have wanted to try this place for quite some time. I saw that they now deliver through Uber Eats so I thought I'd give it a try. First of all, my boyfriend is middle eastern so I have a lot of experience eating middle eastern food and I know what good middle eastern food is. That being said, this is the worst middle eastern food I've ever eaten. I ordered the Chicken Mandi. It looked delicious but, unfortunately, did not taste delicious. The chicken was very dry and had zero flavor. The rice was over-seasoned and had a bad flavor. I even squeezed a whole lemon on the dish to try to add some moisture and flavor, but that didn't help. Very good and so deserving of an excellent review. Been coming here a few nights now and pretty much everything is good whether it be chicken mandi or fahsa but this place is really all about lamb. The haneeth and mandi are both outstanding and served over a bed of brown rice with cooked sweet onions and spices. It is so succulent and flavorful it makes me hungry right now just writing about it. The maraq soup accompanies my meals here and its amazing that something that only costs around a dollar is so good. And yes do squeeze the lime that comes with into the maraq. Its essential. Service is also very good. Food like this is pleasing to the soul. So feed both your stomach and soul and come in. You'd be hard pressed to find better lamb elsewhere. read more

Let's just say if you're looking for a typical American dining experience this is not the place for you. If your accustomed to things like water, silverware, bath tissue, air conditioning, an absence of bugs, or a waiter who checks on you, then this is not the place for you. But the food was good. However the service was not even poor, it was absent. If you like immediate service don't go here, you'll spend the whole time complaining. I felt like a forgotten middle child who had to assert myself to get what I needed after my parents forgot about me and left me to my older brother waiter for the night. Myself, friends, and obviously pregnant wife went 75% of the meal without water (without AC to make it worse). After asking 5 times (no hyperbole here) over the span of 50 minutes, I was forced to take our glasses into the kitchen and demand them to be refilled. Unfortunately, I had to do this twice, and with the check, and to get a to go box. My wife informed me that there was also no toilet paper in the women's bathroom, and I was required to refill it in the men's. Had we been in a hurry to leave I would have been frustrated, we didn't mind staying there for over 2 hours to catch up with old friends, but if you expect to get in and out of this place within a reasonable amount of time, then this is not the place for you. Extremely poorly managed, the majority of customers seem like regulars who use the back as a mosque which is undivided from the restaurant. I felt like it added to the atmosphere, but did feel kind of awkward ( do I stop talking? Lower my voice?). To add to the atmosphere, there is also an Arabic TV station that waffles between hilarious commercials and soap operas, one with a young women attempting to hang herself, all while periodically cutting out. It definitely has potential. But if it doesn't upgrade the service they will spurn a lot of customers. In the end the food was quite good, and at a reasonable price, I mean that sincerely. Would have gave them four stars for food alone but a zero for the service to bump it down to two. They also offered a free slice of dessert (not sure if they were trying to make up for lack of service or offering a sample of the most expensive thing on the menu), but there are dozens of other ethnic restaurants in the area that have similar or better quality food and immensely better service. All together, I can't imagine an atmosphere or food more reminiscent of Yemen. read more

I went here for breakfast first and then for lunch with my friend. Both times the food was great. The breakfast has a pretty tasty scramble omelet like dish called shakshuka. It has a lot of tomatoes and some fried potatoes. The bread that comes with the dish is probably the highlight. It is warm, soft and pretty delicious. Almost like a Naan bread in texture. For lunch we tried the Lamb Mandi and Chicken with rice. Both were good dishes. The lamb is special on weekends. Try the lamb broth before the main dish to whet your appetite. 4.5 stars. I saw a Washingtonian article on this place and thankfully my sister and her boyfriend were equally as intrigued. It sounded like legit, real homemade cooking. And my goodness, it did not disappoint. While I'm not middle eastern and can't claim to be an expert, everything tasted like it came out of a loving grandmother's kitchen. I always feel like I am making out like a bandit when I discover new home cooking-- it is like I am tasting the soul of another culture; as if it is something sacred from childhood. basically it is like i am getting gold for a reasonable price and without having a Yemeni grandma. Everything seemed to be prepared fresh-- my soup came out boiling hot ( and literally continued to simmer for several minutes), the fried dumpling type things came out with the perfect crisp, and the lamb shank was tender and falling off the bone. The ingredients and flavors were delicious, complex, and never over-powering. The shafoot appetizer was a little odd with so much yogurt, but tasty and refreshing. If anything I would order it again so I could use the copious amount of yogurt for other dishes. The haneeth, salta, and lamb mandi entrees were enormous. My sister was worried they made a mistake and gave us the double order versions. Service was neutral at first, but the lady who served us warmed up throughout the night-- perhaps she saw how much we were enjoying the food. In the end, we were served complimentary chocolate desserts. The atmosphere was cozy on a Wednesday night-- it seems like friends like to meet up there for dinner and hang out--sure beats an empty restaurant and an overcrowded one. I definitely recommend people go for the cultural experience, even if you are one of those curmudgeonly yelpers. Went to this restaurant recently, and although the appetizers and bread were great and tasty, the main dishes were rather bland. Plus, there is no air conditioning, only a fan. Hands down some of the best grub I have eaten in a long time! I have been wanting to try this place for a few months now, and finally I had the chance to take my family there today. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left, we felt like we were at a family's home. We got there around 3:30PM to find all the tables totally booked, obviously a really good sign, but we were HUNGRY! The nice hostess, took us up a few stairs to an arabesque sitting area with low couches and the patrons on our right were sitting on the floor eating from a large platter. GAME ON! I love traditional style of eating -- real family style! Sit on the floor, either eat directly from the large platter or have the head of the family load other members plates up with goodies before digging in with their own! So we were fortunate enough to sit on the floor, have a large platter of the most wonderful lamb and rice brought to us and truly enjoy each others company. We ordered the lamb haneeth for two, we decided to that would provide enough for the wife and I plus two younger kids. It did and MORE! We also ordered the meat sambosa's and two of the lamb broth soups. The sambosa's were wonderful, perfectly crisp and packed with meat. I have a little bit of a love hate relationship with lamb, so I was a bit worried how the lamb broth would taste, but my God, this place made some of the richest broth out there - puts most other soup joints to shame. If you are on a paleo diet, go there and get a few gallons of this stuff, I mean flavors that take you through the old world marketplace -- in a good way -- The lamb haneeth came on a large platter, with a few chunks of lamb, on top of rice and covered with fried onions. The lamb was fall off the bone amazing -- it had ZERO gaminess to it, and was out of this world. The rice, which I am assuming was made with the same broth as the soup was possibly the most flavorful and perfectly cooked rice I've had -- Mind you I come from South Asia -- My people know their Rice (makes me a rice expert), this stuff was off the hook. The fried onions bring the whole dish together and make the the dish all that much more fragrant! Man, I am already ready for my second visit. Few things I would like to note, the price is not cheap nor would I consider it super expensive. It is fair for what you get. Just the expertise of the chef's as seen in the dishes constitutes paying a bit more than all the other places out there. I do wish they provided more lamb on the two person platter, I think the amount was good and next time I will probably order a larger platter, but again for two people I expected a little more meat. You do, however get a ton of rice, salad, and having the soup and sambosa's made us leave with at least 4 extra pounds heavier than when we arrived. The ambiance is wonderful, the location is in the heart of FFX, and the restaurant is absolutely accommodating to families with younger kids. What a bad idea to eat here!! Service was horrible and you pay roughly 16 dollars for an entree mostly comprised of rice. After that carb attack with barely any edible meat (mostly fat and bone), they charge you a 20 percent tip no matter how big your party is. Used to order Haneeth regularly in last year. Their Haneeth is great. But this year, faced a number of disappointing experiences. My friend ordered through ubereats. They got food which was not entirely fresh. Another day, me and one other friend of mine went for a mobile order pickup. They gave disappointing remarks to us while mentioning about these mobile orders. But whenever, I go there and order Haneeth directly from them, it's nice as usual. Today, I ordered through ubereats and the haneeth I received is the worst. They provided me not even semi regular portion meats. Now I believe, they think of mobile orders are always from discounts, so they treat those orders differently which is a kind of scams and I don't like it. This is why I thought of writing it. On top of that, price is higher than the regular in these apps. So if you want to enjoy their food, don't do mobile app orders. Go to the restaurant and order directly. read more

The lady upfront was friendly and probably the only one who spoke to me in English after attempting to speak to me in a different language numerous times. The restaurant had its grilled chicken listed for 12.95 and proceeded to charge me like 17$ for it. I mentioned the mistake and they told me the menu was outdated. If I had known I was gonna pay more I would have gotten something else. They didn't offer to fix their mistake and acted as if nothing was wrong. I was told there would be bread with the meal, after I left and came back to my campus I noticed there was no bread. I went ahead and called them to inquire and immediately was told I was at fault for signing the receipt. I didn't even care about the price at the point. Just wanted my bread. Instead the chef condescendingly argued with me and kept calling me "sweetie". I'm a guy so I felt very awkward that another man is calling me sweetie over the phone while we argue. Our argument escalated and we got louder until he told me to bring his food back and he'll give me a refund. Another 15 mins of driving back. Once I returned the food, the chef was still trying to incite me while the lady upfront was trying to calm him and I. The chef processed the refund and threw the receipt on the counter in front of me and walked back in the kitchen without any words. I apologized to them for the inconvenience bc having worked in the restaurant business before I knew what it was like to have upset guests in your face and I genuinely felt bad about the situation. The lady upfront was the only one who offered any sort of condolence and remained calm and collective through out. I felt like she was the only one who cared that I was upset. I was already skeptical of trying some random restaurant but after driving back and forth I have now learned my lesson. Overall I would recommend avoiding the place as it gives a shady vibe and the staff doesn't seem to know what they're doing. read more
