Absolutely amazing sushi all the way out here in Moab. I no longer have to get sushi when I go out of town because I can get great sushi here! Super friendly, high quality, great saki. They also give back to the community through their happy hour and donating their restaurant for the WabiSabi Free or By Donation winter brunches to help locals through the lean times in this tourist town. Great sushi in Moab. Fun rolls on the menu and great ambience. Long wait but well worth it and they have excellent cocktails (try the prickly pear margarita). Not a fan of spicy tuna that is mushy, but it was better than most places that do it. The mochi ice cream was a win too. read more

Moab, UT, has some good food options. SS is my favorite, one of the best, excellent menu. I was in Moab for two nights and enjoyed three meals...two pleasant evening meals at the SS sushi bar. Check out their extensive offerings and the fresh ingredients right there in front of you. There are good beverage options. You can easily run up a large tab so take care to be selective. The chef and wait help is friendly and efficient, and I relied on their right-on suggestions on my first visit. I started with the miso soup and then a seared tuna nigiri appetizer, a poke salad and went for their suggested seared salmon with grapefruit entrée. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Their seasonal IPA was my beverage of choice. I went back and enjoyed SS with friends and winged the ordering on my own with excellent results. I've got the place to go whenever I return to Moab. I stopped here on my trip to Arches and Canyonlands because I have very limited access to sushi in Idaho. I grew up eating sushi and absolutely love it. This place was super yummy. I stuck with the basic sushi rolls because I didn't have a lot of money to spend. The prices were sort of high but not bad for sushi or a tourist town like Moab. I started with a California Roll and a Tempura Shrimp Roll. It was nice to see real crab on the menu unlike a lot of those places that serve you imitation crab- isn't that the point- fresh seafood? The California Roll was good but not the best I've ever had. I sort of wish I'd only ordered the Tempura Shrimp Roll because DAMN it was so tasty I ordered another. Yum! I wish I could have tried some of the higher end sushi as well but oh well. The service was friendly and efficient and they didn't treat me any different for being a party of one like some places. I highly recommend eating here in Moab. read more

We tried Sabaku our last trip to Moab. My girlfriend had been there before, but it was a first for me. We tried a couple specials, the ceviche shooter, and seared Nairagi. Both were nice and light with great flavor. The wonton chip with maguro and a seaweed garnish was also a favorite. The staff were all super friendly, and the ambiance/vibe was perfect after a long day out in the sun climbing. If you want to try something different in Moab that won't disappoint, Sabaku is it. read more

Seriously one of my favorite spots. Like the poster below, I was a bit hesitant on taking in sushi in the middle of the desert and thinking of the hours from the nearest ocean but my local friend Steve raved about this place. I am so happy I tried it because as quite a few of the posters stated, I am a bit of a sushi snob and have eaten it in many of the major cities and overseas. This place turned out to be awesome. We ordered the spicy hamachi, the Delicate Arch and the Hidden Valley roll (fruit, macadamia nuts and eel sauce around a seaweed wrap? Who would have thought?)....all of which was ridiculously good. I like that they had a no-rice roll (Delicate Arch), replacing the seaweed with sliced cucumber. We ended the meal with orange in plum wine - super tasty and healthy. The service was great - really nice people; friendly environment. I was passing through town but was entertained to see locals joking around with each other and the staff - good energy and lots of laughs! That's what makes small towns so cool. In regards to a past poster's comment, who cares what ethnicity anyone is in making good food? One of the best Mexican restaurants I've been to is run by Chinese in NYC. My mom is Chinese but she makes the best lasagna ever (although taken from my American grandma's recipe). Recipes and culinary ideas exist to be handed down and shared. I think it's awesome to move beyond any of these boundaries and share in each others' cultures but giving them a unique flavor. Sabaku deliciously proves that. read more

We enjoyed this restaurant so much last night that we came back tonight for more. We had three different sushi rolls, all of which were excellent. Last night, my wife had the salmon dinner which was perfectly cooked and the vegetables were very tasty as well. Although this restaurant is not inexpensive, it is reasonably priced. It gets busy after about 6:30 or 7 so I advise you get there early. Service is attentive and friendly. If we ever get back to Moab we will definitely come here. read more

I came to this place by myself twice. The first time was last year-2014-I liked the speciality sushi roll options and got my sushi prepared and delivered rather quick. The second time I came here I didn't really like the experience. I decided to sit at the sushi bar since I was single and wanted faster service. The restaurant was busy but not packed, and there were only 4 other people sitting at the bar. I'm probably sitting at the bar for about 6 or 7 minutes by now, only been greeted from the sushi chef. I then asked the sushi chef if I order my drinks and food through him, he told me a server would be right with me. I eventually got a water from my assigned waitress. I ordered a roll from the chef which took about 20 minutes. When I finally finished my first roll I ordered another one and that was prepared way faster than the first. By the time I was done with my second roll my waitress still hadn't come up to me to ask if everything was prepared nice or anything. To get my bill I had to search for my waitress and ask for it. As for the sushi? I got the roll that had a mango dressing on top, there was hardly any of the mango dressing on top of the rolls, thus making the sushi very dry and hard to swallow. Even when I dipped the sushi in soy sauce it felt as if I was swallowing mainly rice. I felt that with both of the rolls I ordered it was mainly rice and a dash of fish....anyway, next time I vacation in Moab, I will not be going here. read more

Very skeptical when I came here because of a sushi restaurant that is no where near an ocean or distributor. Then I was blown out of my mind about their quality. First, they use real wasabi. Not the fake powdered stuff. Next, their sushi has their own style and flavor. You have to try it to understand what I'm talking. Their chefs are not coping other styles. And finally, all of their desserts are house made. Not store bought. If you want this kind of quality sushi restaurant in NYC or LA, you have to go to a place that charges $75+ a person. read more

This place is worth a drive to Moab...take my word for it. My parents are visiting from the UK, and decided to bring us to Moab for NYE. Having never been here (Moab, or Sabaku), we weren't sure what to expect. We were initially wary, as we always are with restaurants that do not take reservations. We called ahead and Sherry (hostess) explained that if we call 15 minutes ahead, she would give us the lay of the land. We did so, and she said "Be here at 7". So there we were, at 7PM, and Sherry explained that things had changed just a bit, and perhaps we would like to visit their sister restaurant (98 Center), have some snack mix, an adult beverage (it's Utah...gotta have food if you want to drink!) and wait for her to call. We did, and as luck would have it, we were back at Sabaku just five minutes later, without having to order anything! After we were seated, our waitress Rikki, greeted us and started the ordering process. She was amazing the entire time, and let us pace our ordering. The ceviche is served over rice, so that the marinade can soak into the rice, leaving a delicious memory of what was just enjoyed. Soft shell crab can be ordered, although it's not on the menu, by itself, if you so choose. Mussel shooters are incredible, as is the shrimp tempura. Next, the sashimi round. We ordered the sashimi and rolls at the same time, however, they smartly served the sashimi first, then the rolls. Sashimi was maguro, sake and hamachi, beautifully presented, and I sadly did not take photo's...you'll have to take my word for it. Then the rolls - the Castleton, Rainbow Bridge and Devil's Garden. Our fave was Devils Garden...the pineapple habanero salsa makes this roll! Along the way, we had some really great wasabi (real, house ground wasabi is an option at this place), and plenty of sake. Desert was mango and chocolate mochi, and again, we were not disappointed. All in all...this place probably is one of the best eateries in Moab...despite the fact that we have not yet been to another restaurant in Moab. My husband and I have decided to ride down in late spring, not just because the ride to Moab looks to be fun, but at the end of that ride we can enjoy some of the best sushi that Utah has to offer. read more

Amazing sushi and service. Didn't expect such good sushi in the middle of Utah.

I'm afraid this was the least favorite meal I've had in a long time. My friend and I were seated, and were told the water would be coming soon. In about five minutes the waitress came back, took our order, still no water. We waited until both tables right next to us, who both came in later than us, have got the water to ask, and their first reaction was not apology or anything like that at all; it was basically like "wait a sec". We ordered Udon noodle soup and kelp salad. Both dishes were very disappointing. They didn't even get my friend's udon noodle soup right. It was stir fried. When we let her know it was not what we ordered, she took the bowl, went back into the kitchen, and came back in 1min, with the same bowl now filled with soup; apparently she just poured some soup into the stir fried noodle bowl and expected us to believe this was the way udon noodle soup was supposed to be made. BTW, I'm an Asian, and I honestly haven't had any udon soup anywhere else on this planet with so much peanut butter in it. My kelp noodle salad somehow was not seasoned. Not sure if it is just the way they make it or they just forgot to put in seasoning. This might be the only Japanese place in town but no way I'll ever go back. For $42 I'm pretty sure I can get better food somewhere else. read more

The Navajo Rock roll was small but decent tasting. Kinda pricey for what you got. The chicken katsu portion was also small, and did not include miso soup and a small salad which Japanese restaurants usually include. What was most disappointing was the Traditional Udon Soup. It was extremely salty and had an odd flavor which tasted like balsamic vinegar??!! The noodles were not the traditional udon noodles. They almost looked like spaghetti noodles. We checked the Yelp and Trip Advisor reviews before going. It was a disappointing experience. Service was good; food was not. read more

Wonderful experience here! So many VEGAN and GF options!! I made my own sushi roll with cucumber, asparagus, carrots and mixed greens (all local produce is used by the way) and a side of steamed rice!! They even have a gf-vegan ginger dressing that is Delish! Staff was very helpful and knowledgable about food allergies and has list of ingredients on hand. Food is ALWAYS great! We were extremely disappointed with service this time around. We are locals and come here often. Was quoted up to 30 minute wait which is fine, waited 45, it's the middle of march and tourist season WE KNOW...no biggie...until we get sat and the table next to us arrived a full 10 minutes after we did and had already been sat and had drinks. The waitress didn't bring water, took our drink order, and we ordered appetizers cuz we were starving and had a 2 year old with us. Waitress finally came back we ordered our food and asked for a kids menu because the hostess didn't bring one. Waitress never came back to see if I needed any food for my 2 year old (luckily I had snacks for him). No one refilled waters. Waitress never asked if we would like a second round of drinks. I got up and got myself a napkin and plate for soy sauce cuz our table was set one short. I gave up on ordering food for my kid and just fed him edamame. Our waitress never picked up our dirty plates. The hostess eventually came and got them, refilled our water and we ordered desert which the hostess also brought. The waitress didn't bring our check until we pulled out a credit card and set it on the table. In total we were here for 3 hours (with a 2 year old) if you got your service in order you could definitely offer a much better experience and make more money being able to get more people in the door. But when all 10 of your tables take 3 hours to dine and pay you will continue to drive people away and have money walk out your door before they ever get to try the food! read more

It started out we got some really nice vibes by being seated by the bathrooms and cash register and a closet. It was very dark in there and could barely see anything. We understand the trendy Edison light look but Bring head lamps. Our waitress appeared to be not interested in serving us. She was flighty and would answer our questions by moving around a lot, swaying back and forth, and seemed very rushed. At one point she answered a question while walking away and pointing to the menu her voice trailing off she disappeared. We thought she was coming back but never saw her for 20 minutes. When she returned she seemed extremely interested in talking to the table of 3 men behind us who were talking about bikes, joy division, and film festivals. The sushi was sub par. The philly roll was basically 80% cream cheese. The regular sushi rolls tasted like mass production at a grocery store. Overpriced for quality. read more

Best sushi in Utah! I would recommend the sandstone crunch and the surf and turf with elk. The atmosphere was fantastic, and the customer service was top notch. The restaurant was very clean and well appointed. The sushi bar was a fun place to sit and the sushi chefs were pleasant and very friendly. In addition to the regular menu items, the sushi chefs are more than willing to create rolls or items to your personal taste! Highly recommend this restaurant....this place is definitely one of our new favorite places to eat in Moab! read more

The sushi was incredibly tasty. My friend that goes to a lot of Sushi places was blown way. Their untraditional way to make the Sushi with all kind of vegetables and sauces or even lemon was spatial and every type came out delicious. The service was very friendly and efficient. My husband loves sushi. Me, not so much. When I saw there were only a few choices for non-sushi lovers, I was hesitant to agree to a sushi place. Add to that the distance Moab is from any ocean, and my trepidation increased. But all the reviews on yelp said this place was great, so I let my affection for my spouse override my generally good common sense. And I am so glad I relented! We started with the spicy tuna topped crispy wontons. I asked to have one of them with no seaweed for me and the waitress, Courtney, could not have been more pleasant and agreeable. My hubby ordered the sunshine roll, and I ordered the elk tataki. Both were awesome. We decided to indulge and ordered more--he the Colorado roll, me the shrimp tempura and the veggie tempura. Again, perfectly done. The tempura was light and crispy with not a hint of grease. The overall experience from walking through the door to paying the bill was stellar. The hostess was very friendly and cheerful, our waitress Courtney was wonderful and the food was superior. Definitely worth a return trip! read more

You will be surprised. Good sushi in Moab UT! Wait staff was incredible. We had a huge order of various sushi, beers, sake, etc...and our waiter got everything perfect without writing anything down. I've eaten a lot of sushi in my time...and I think this was good..not great...sushi. We ordered various roles and pieces. It all tasted very fresh. Just not blow you away sushi. The prices were pretty high..but we expected that. There was also some good live music with a guy playing guitar. Would go back again in a heartbeat. read more

This is a top tier sushi restaurant--located here in little Moab, Utah! My family is from NYC and when they visit me, they agree that Sabaku rivals some of NYC's finest sushi restaurants. The fish is fresh, superbly prepared, and the chefs creatively use local ingredients and flavors to make the food as interesting as it is delicious. My friend from Japan agrees that Sabaku's use of thinly sliced lemons in their sushi is creative and brilliant. read more

Sabaku is the best sushi I've ever had, hands down. I'm not sure what the people who gave low ratings are used to, but it's certainly not good sushi, that's for sure. My favorites are the Devil's Garden and Fiery Furnace rolls, but they are all great. Service can be slow, and the restaurant can be overwhelmingly busy, but such is life in any popular tourist town. Fantastic! Fish was fresh and happy hour specials are cheap! Came into down at dinner time, looking for sushi and a cocktail. Neighboring Asian restaurant in town was good but no alcohol and service wasn't the best. Came here after and destroyed 8 rolls with a smile on our faces. Friendly service and decently priced.
