Celebrated my boo's bday. Had a scare when we got there. A big "closed for private party" sign was on the door. But saw there was only 1 person eating at a table and a couple sitting at the bar. So we asked if the party was over, could we come and get dinner? Food was excellent, but I'm not sure if it was because we showed up late (8pm) or if it's just that old mom and pop shop vibe. Ate here today after work as a substitute paraprofessional at P.S. 12 Q. I had ate and gotten the egg rolls and soup as an appetizer, shrimp omelette as an entree and fried ice cream for dessert that it had tasted really good and delicious. Very authentic Thai cuisine - the majority of the patrons here are Thai. My favorite is the duck with tamarind sauce - very crispy, cooked very well and a large portion for a reasonable price. This is a great choice if you're sensitive to spice levels. Service here is sincere and food comes out quickly but when there are a number of tables, it can lapse sometimes. I don't mind because they are very apologetic when it happens. Overall, a good choice and very convenient location to the subway station. read more

Amazing, authentic Thai food at a very reasonable price! It can be overwhelming choosing a Thai place in Elmhurst/Jackson Heights, as the number of authentic spots are seeming endless. Sabay's perks are that it's right off the subway and easy to get to! I've had a lot of Thai food in the city & have been to Thailand twice.I found Sabay to be offer authentic meals, not catered to the American palate, and that's just how I like it! Came here with some coworkers for after work lunch and drinks. The place itself is esthetically not that pleasing or clean; the bathrooms were a little scary since you have to walk down a steep stairway to reach them. Our waiter was super lovely and super attentive; since there weren't that many people in the restaurant, we were served our drinks very quickly as well as the food. I ordered their lychee martini which was absolutely delicious (bummer they didn't have happy hour drink specials). However, they do have plenty of lunch specials. As an appetizer, we ordered scallion pancakes which were super tasty. As my entree, I ordered their crispy pork with Chinese broccoli; it came with steamed white rice. This dish was delicious, the pork was super crispy with a perfect crunch and reminded me a lot to Colombian chicharrón. The crispy pork paired perfectly with the Chinese broccoli which was seasoned with a nice brown sauce. The white rice made the whole dish well rounded. The restaurant is a cozy spot with art and minimalist decor. It is a special spot for me. While I chose the most rainy day of the week to go, my husband and I practically had the place to ourselves. I enjoyed my meal immensely especially since it was our date night. I love the flavor of the food here. My favorite meals are the noodle soups, the calamari, and the Thai iced tea. I enjoyed the fresh portions of chicken and the Shanghai bok choy greens inside my soup. I felt like it was a home cooked meal at my parents'. This place has a sentimental feel for me. It was my first meal in Queens after I moved to the hood. The service is really good, and that's why I come often to this restaurant. I noticed they also have a variety of alcoholic beverages, so it's great for happy hour. And last but not least, our waitress is super friendly and funny! We've been coming to Sabay for nearly 5 years now. The staff have turned into family and have watched me through my pregnancies and now watching my children grow. The food is authentic and the best Tom yum soup in the neighborhood. I will note, the only downside is their bathroom is in the basement and only accessible through a NARROW and steep staircase, so please be careful. But DON'T let this stop you from coming! Lol Keep in mind, they are checking vaccination cards and a sign is posted outside, so there's no bypassing that. Enjoy! read more

My friend and I came across this place while searching for food near us. We decided to give this place a try and were so happy we did! The lunch special is to die for. I cant remember what I bought but it had so much flavor! You receive two appetizers and then your lunch special. We were also given complimentary desserts! Sabay, we are breaking up. For many months now my orders have not been anywhere near the quality they were in the past. The "fresh spring rolls" are more like summer rolls: rice paper, carrots, lettuce, and fried tofu instead of an animal protein. This seems more Vietnamese and it wasn't executed well. Chicken satay has been dry. Shrimp salad and spring rolls are both boring, bland. The pad kee mao hasn't been the same for awhile. Not spicy, the flavors are all off, neither fish sauce nor golden mountain sauce nor oyster sauce seem to come through - I don't know what they're using or if their ratios are just off but it's not coming together. read more

I just ordered a bunch of food from the Lunch Menu in Doordash, and everything was amazing. I ordered the Tom Yum Soup, Drunken Noodle, Stew Noodle, Thai Fried Rice, and the Sweet Sticky Rice. My favorite was the Tom Yum Soup and Sweet Sticky Rice by far. The soup was so flavorful, and the Sweet Sticky Rice was delicious....I wish it had some fruit, but it was still good. The Thai Fried Rice was a bit bland, but I didn't mind. Plus, the Lunch Menu came with dumplings and Fried Tofu, which had some peanuts. Again...delicious. I will order again. read more

I got takeout for lunch. The lunch special comes with choice of appetizer and entree for about $9 after tax. I got the curry puffs appetizer and ground pork basil entree. I would've given it 5 stars based on taste, service, portion size, and value for the $ but I removed a star because my curry puffs were stuffed in coffee cup and they threw the dressing over them. So by the time I got home, they were soaked in dressing and completely soggy. Now onto the good stuff. The entree was delicious! I was asked to choose between mild, medium, and hot for spice level. I chose hot and it sure was accurate lol. The food tasted authentic and not like the bland watered down version of Thai food you'll find in certain areas. The price is great and the plating look attractive but the food was disappointing. My chicken tasted over cooked, hard and not fresh; like it was pre-cooked and reheated. The favorite is ok but nothing to get excited about. It was served on a huge flat round plate; ready unnecessary and hires the fact that the portion size is small. You do get a bowl of rice. Food: Awesome original Thai cuisine that you can't find no wrong with. Everything from the Pad Thai, curry puffs, to the drunken noodles are delicious. Great spot for lunch. Brew: You can't go wrong with the traditional Thai beer they have, Chang or Singha. I love them both equally for being a light and clean tasting golden pale lager. Perfect for cooling you down after eating spicy Thai food. I'll like to add a sub note for Chang beer. There are two versions of this beer, In the states you'll find it brewed and exported with malt and opposed to drinking it local in Thailand it will be brewed with rice like many other Asian beers. read more

I've been coming here for years but I didn't know the wait staff knew me. The best thing about this place is the cost! You can get lunch for $5.95 plus a free appetizer. Lunch special review based. DIRTY CHEAP Thai lunch special. Tom yum noodle soup 3.5/5 : comes with appetizer OR soup OR salad OR soda. Chose the Thai dumplings from the appetizer -- very delicious; reminds me of shu mai. The main entree was disappointing . I chose Chicken as my protein and the chicken wasn't easy to chew. The soup was lack off flavor. The noodles was cooked perfectly and the wonton skin that came along with was crispy to my liking. I had to use the condiments for more flavor which upset me because I didn't pay for an entree just to use condiments for help. Ginger creme brûlée 4/5: SOOOO GOOOOD. Very nice ginger taste-- didn't taste artificial flavor to me . The short hair server (on a Friday) was sweet, I like how she smiles when she was talking to me .
