I was really looking forward to Dragon & Phoenix but I also ordered white rice to go with it and there was no rice in the sealed bag I got. So it's probably sitting in the restaurant somewhere. Very disappointed. Shrimp were large and veggies were fresh. The spice level was fine. But Shrimp curry (and the sauce) and General Tso's chicken would have been so much better over rice. I needed to switch my Chinese food place. This is an actual restaurant (with takeout) so prices are going to be higher but so should quality. That's not always the case but usually. When picking up my food, I mentioned to the guy at the front that the takeout place down the street kept getting my order wrong and no longer answers the phone every time. Instead of bashing a competitor, he said, "Everyone is short-staffed so it's not easy." This was a big plus. It showed strong character. I want to give someone like that my business. But then... My $4-and-change Wonton Soup only had two wontons. This is a really bad deal in the Wonton Soup market. Especially for someone who only takes two sips of the broth. Even so, if we're talking about wonton value, it's the worst I have seen. The wontons were pretty good but I won't order them again if only two wontons. But then... I tried the Lo Mein. The box was half open at the top and wouldn't close back easily after I ate half the Lo Mein. I'm not an origami guy but we can look past that because the Lo Mein was pretty strong. But then... I realized they forgot the white rice for the Sesame Chicken and had to go back (not far). You shouldn't forget white rice. But then... I ate the Sesame Chicken with the white rice and let me tell you something ... It was a BANGER! It was so good that it overshadowed all the other small mistakes. And as crazy as it sounds, it made the Lo Mein taste even better. Because then I said to myself, "Wait a second! I'm eating really good high-quality Chinese Food!" And then... I opened the fortune cookie. I had zero expectations for what that fortune might say. I will not reveal what it said and it shall remain a mystery but the timing was kind of insane--and almost word for word. RAMEN - This was a weird one for me, I ordered the miso ramen with pork and it did not have any flavor at all. The broth was bland and had zero seasoning. I ended up asking for chili oil to get some flavor in there. NOODLES & CALAMARI - This could have been because this is a North Carolina asian restaurant, but there was ZERO flavor in anything I got. It was just okay. We got in around 9pm and it seemed like nobody really wanted to take our group of 6. We got a bunch of drinks and some apps and they were kind of bland. The chicken and broccoli that I got was not the best and had lots of pieces of chewy rubbery chicken. Not good quality meat. I even ended up getting sick after and had a really upset stomach. The gyoza were alright as an appetizer. Another person in my party wasn't a huge fan of their ramen. Overall the restaurant didn't really seem well kept and needed some love. We just felt like we were trying to be rushed out, meanwhile they closed at 10pm and we got there a little before 9pm. The restaurant bathrooms had a funky smell by them, kind of like sewage water. We tried Sabi for the first time this week, we got a to go order on Sunday evening. We had Tofu and Broccoli and Tofu Kung Pao. Great spot for delicious, fresh sushi. The fish used for the sushi here is all fresh and our waitress told us it is never frozen. You can tell by the quality of the rolls. This makes Sabi really stand out. We tried several rolls and thoroughly enjoyed all of them. The space is much larger than expected and they do accept reservations if you call. It gets fairly busy on weekend evenings, Sunday included. All of the staff is welcoming and friendly. Lola is amazing (and hilarious). Highly recommend this spot for great sushi. I haven't been to a restaurant with such a open floor plan in awhile, tons of space here! Big bar area, a lot of booths, big tables, big outdoor seating area, great for these COVID dining restriction times. We got a booth. Came here along time ago so I didn't really remember anything about the food. They have a specials menu, drink menu, main menu and a sushi menu. A lot to choose from. ! Pretty sure our server was getting tired of asking if we'd decided on anything yet. It too us forever just to pick a drink. They didn't have any Rosè, which I hope they get because that was the only downfall here! We got a bottle of the Prosecco. Which I knew would be good. Off the specials list we got the spicy edamame and the Wagyu beef. The edamame, had a spicy red pepper seasoning and was yum, worked through that bowl pretty quickly ! The beef was delicious and tender, 2 pieces of grade A3 beef Nigeri style, finished with truffle sweet soy sauce, and scallions. This was melt in your mouth amazing, right mix of sweet soy and the beef was so good. Wish there was more than 2 pieces! Then to share we got the spicy Thai basil with chicken and the man overboard roll. The basil chicken was a great dish to share, I wish they could have made it spicier but the server said they made their dishes one level! Could have used a bit more basil too! The sushi was really good. Tuna, avocado, jalapeño topped with filet, scallions and comes with three sauces. Loved this, the filet made it different from standard sushi. Such good quality beef. The jalapeño given it a good after kick. Delicious. Then dessert! The chocolate lava cake with ice cream was a given as the other one sounded weird.... literally came out steaming hot with ice cream melting....I could Smell the chocolate as she placed the plate. This is a divine dessert. Chocolate warm, gooey, rich, and the ice cream giving the coolness and creamy ness. A must. They don't do many desserts. But it's ok if you have this. Loved this place, and the size of it. Great service, food, so much variety too. Definitely a return in my future. Great spot in Davidson. read more
