I don't think he mentioned that he wanted his steak well done so it came out rare--at least some of the pieces were. It's more casual and we went after Ren Faire, so it was the hang out spot after an event! Service: great host and waitress. We put our name in and was seated with 20 or so minutes. That's even after a huge crowd from the Ren Faire! Our server was tentative and even gave great suggestions and comments. Especially about the names of their sushi rolls. This is a small, but well maintained Japanese restaurant and on my last visit it had a decent number of customers. Service was quick and efficient but the glazed look I received from the waitress who took my order tells me that they do not understand Japanese. At any rate, I ordered green tea and a sashimi plate. I was brought a fair sized carafe and I think that was a good deal for the price. The sashimi was 12 pieces of different types of tuna and all of it was melt in your mouth good. We checked this place out for a quick bite after a long day. It's near our house and my bf loves hibachi. I ordered the "Sexy pink" roll and the crab rangoon. Now, I always order crab rangoon when I go somewhere that sells it. It's like I have to try it. I will say this was not a good iteration of the appetizer to me. It was unfortunately very sweet and way too packed with cheese for my liking. I'm glad I tried it though. My roll was just okay and I was surprised because apparently it's a pretty popular option. It was pouring rain outside, and we ran in, sopping wet after braving the elements and being turned away from another sushi restaurant 3 hours before their closing. It was that unfortunate turn of events that led us here. When we walked in, our server, whose service was truly remarkable, warmly greeted us. The ambiance is dated but clean. Midori has great sushi and entrees. The teriyaki chicken looks like a small portion in this picture but I promise you, it's not. Both of my parents ordered that along with one getting a spicy crab roll, while I had the tiger roll (also ordered a teriyaki chicken to go). Everything is fairly priced. We both got two rolls a piece I got the rainbow roll which is a California roll with salmon tuna and avocado on top then a Snow White with was spicy crab avocado topped with white tuna and sweet chili sauce both outstanding. After recently moving to the area searching for a local go to spot for Japanese food, i'm so grateful to have visited Midori! Upon being deployed to Japan numerous times I feel I know sushi well and Japanese food in general, and the words authentic and fresh come to mind here. The sushi was so soft and fresh, and the sexy lady role might have been the best I have had since Japan. The hibachi had a lot of taste and was very light and clean, not greasy like other places. I just had the most discourteous phone exchange with a young woman who claimed to be the manager. I called to check on the status of my order (totaling $95!) and before I could get a sentence out she said, "I'm sorry, I can't hear you; please call back" and hung up! I called back and as soon as I said hello, she said, "I still can't hear you" and hung up again. I called the 3rd time and loudly asked to speak with the manager--which now was clearly heard...and the same woman stated that she was the manager. I told her it was so rude of her to hang up on me like that TWICE! She defended the action saying that they've been having an issue with their phones so the easiest thing is for them to abruptly hang up and ask people to call back (which, mind you, she didn't do the second time I called nor did she take even a second to explain the prior two times). When I told her that we've been customers for a few years now and have never encountered such rude behavior and asked for the owner's card, , she got defensive, said she's been working there for years and the phone system issue has always been problem. Really? So you've been hanging up on customers for years? She won't get the opportunity to do it to this customer for a good long while since I won't be back any time soon. She would do well to remember that this is metro Charlotte and I literally pass dozens of restaurants to get to Midori. I'm sure one of those establishments will gladly accept a new customer and wouldn't think about hanging up on them (or waiting years to fix such a massive issue as the one supposedly warrants such an unacceptable course of action). read more

The sexy lady roll was really pretty but seemed to be missing something. I'm not sure what it was but it needed a little more flavor. The sexy pink roll was huge but was also a little bland. Not sure if I would get the sexy lady or sexy pink rolls again but I definitely would get the farm roll again. It would be worth trying some other rolls. read more

This review is after only one visit- and a Postmates delivery to boot. With that being said, the packaging was immaculate. I really appreciated the hibachi entree being bagged separately from the sushi. Whoever prepared this was very considerate and I'm thankful for. I was having a hard day and didn't want to cook for one. Coupled with the fact that it's been too long since I had sushi, I was glad to find an option. I tried the black dragon roll which had all of my favorites, avocado, tuna, and eel. Though, something is definitely missed when you're not eating it as soon as it is prepared. I would have liked more eel sauce or another sauce than soy for dipping. But, if I had it fresh it probably would have been a non issue. I was sure to get extra shrimp sauce for the hibachi steak and chicken. Though, for that I didn't need it. I also received a gingery tasting sauce that the veggies were good with. The portion was good. I did half rice and half noodles and was able to have some the next day for lunch. There was enough shrimp that I didn't feel skimped on either.
