For a Mexican place in Mukilteo, this spot is a pretty popular choice for locals that is a better alternative to the chain Azteca. We have been coming to this place a while while living in Mukilteo for over 10 years but decided to do takeout during the COVID-19 outbreak (and this was one of my most recent visits probably within the last 5 years. The place still gets a lot of business and you can tell that this is a popular place for locals to support this business. We ordered an enchilada and two burritos for 3. All of the dishes were very flavorful and were good portions. The chicken enchilada was what I had, which came with beans and rice. I would order this again but maybe try shredded beef as an alternative. All dishes come with chips and salsa, even for takeout. read more

My family has eaten at Sabor for years. The food is excellent and never disappoints us. it is the best Mexican restaurant in all of Snohomish. The staff is friendly , helpful and always remembers us. The amount of good reviews are extremely misleading. This place definitely caters to a certain type of clientele--as evidenced by their menu & descriptions. It's geared towards gringos who want to pretend they like Mexican food but really wouldn't know what a good molé or menudo was if it bit them in the you know what. The food looked like what I imagine Mexican restaurant food in America was like in the 80's. It was inauthentic, a pale imitation of real Mexican food, watered down & diluted so as to not disturb the delicate sensibilities of the gringos who tend to frequent this place. Their chips were decent, their salsa was mediocre and watery. Yes they do pour a strong drink, probably so you'll be liquored enough up so by the time the food reaches you, you won't realize how terrible the food actually is. The restaurant itself is looks very old and dated. The carpet looks filthy and the place appeared dim, dark, and dreary even though we came in on a sunny day. This place needs to be remodeled and needs better lighting. The food we had was definitely not fresh, most likely the food is made ahead of time and microwaved once it's ordered. We were extremely dissatisfied with the food especially considering this place has the gall to call themselves a Mexican restaurant when it's not an accurate description of what this restaurant actually is. Like another poster said, the Taco Bell across the street is probably just as authentic as this place is when it comes to serving Mexican food. The food here is very good. What really impressed us was the cordial and welcoming staff: My husband and I stopped in for appetizers and a drink on a Friday night. We arrived just as they were closing; the place was empty. My husband asked if they would mind if we had a drink really quick and we would leave. They said that was fine and let us in, and said we could order food too if we would like. We ended up staying an hour past their closing time, and they graciously served us hot, delicious apps on a cold, crisp October night. A yummy meal served by kind staff! read more

This is a surprisingly good mexican restaurant...especially for being in a stripmall. They start you out with very good chips and salsa. My wife had the combo plate with chile rellenos, chile colorado, and chile verde. All were good. The chile colorado was the standout. I had one of the mexican-style steak dishes...ok but not terrific. Overall, I think this is one of the best mexican places I've eaten at since moving to Washington. I recommend. read more

Love this place. The staff are so friendly as we always come here with the entire family (baby included). Service is fast and friendly. Love the pico. Food is great with the standard selection you would find at many other mexican restaurants and it is priced very well. Service is amazingly quick, considering we usually have some impatient kids with us when we go out. So it is great to get in and get served. Love the chile colorado! Stopped in tonight (staying across the street at the Marriott) and found the perfect place for supper. Indoor dining is socially distanced and sanitary to the point of immaculate. (I witnessed how tables and chairs were being wiped down). My food was excellent: the guacamole was fresh, the pico de gallo and salsa also delicious AND my tamales worth ordering another to go, so as to have one for breakfast. Friendly staff! If you haven't tried Sabor a Mexico, don't. The absolute worst Mexican we've ever attempted to eat. I say attempt, because we left the food sitting there. There was also no tequila in the margarita it was all lime juice. Absolutely horrid. Nothing about this place was authentic. Houstonians would have sent them packing. They literally put Parmesan cheese on my tamale, instead of queso fresco. No seasoning whatsoever. No cilantro. Nothing fresh. And to get sour cream or pico you had to pay almost 2 dollars extra. We tried this place about 6 months ago because we wanted to try something new. So glad we did! We now come here every week. It our cheat day meal. The servers now know exactly what we want to eat and drink as soon as we sit down. Everyone that works there is so incredibly attentive and friendly. I always get the carne asada and my boyfriend always gets the fajitas mixtas. They're both amazing! You should definitely get a margarita or two while you're there too. Yum! Every time I've come here there's a unreasonable up charge for everything, extra salsa for a large to go order, $4 for beef instead of ground beef, I can understand a dollar or so but not $4 . Took my daughter to eat here Sat night (4/5/2019). We ordered Fajita for 2 it smelled bloody spoiled, made me and my daughter sick! I'm lucky my boyfriend lives near here. I'm from Texas- I love authentic Mexican food, Tex mex, Cali-mex, etc as long as it's delicious. I don't like places like Azteca. The food here never disappoints, and it's the best Mexican food around. I always get enchiladas and my partner gets fajitas or the taco salad. Their portions are generous, and I love the staff. Meh. Not really impressed with the food or atmosphere, or service. They seemed to be slammed that night, but we were wisked into an overfloe room that felt more like a vacant office space. The decor is very sparse, but not because they have much else in the space going for them. Food was mediocre, as was the service. I'm not deducting points for it not being "theme-y Mexico-y", because I don't necessarily care for all that, but this restaurant's attempt at "less is more" falls flat. I'm guessing food and service is better on a slower night, but it was just ok...really simply put. Lots of potential for fabulousness. I hope they tighten it up. read more

Great takeout place. They have warming containers near the door to keep the food warm. Very nice people, who take COVID precautions seriously. Large portions of really good Mexican food. I had a combo plate. I got a large combo, and it was plenty for two meals! Chicken was very flavorful in the tostada, and the enchilada was large and beefy. My wife enjoyed the tacos al carbon. We dropped in for dinner a few Friday nights ago. We live just a few blocks away. They have very good flavors and you can tell they care about what they produce. I had expected this place to be different but ultimately found it to be unoriginal and following in the footsteps of many an americanized Mexican restaurant; cheezy, stereotypical food. Not that it was not tasty mind you, it just wasn't very exciting. Mexican food can be so much more. My boy had a burrito, the wife a small combination with tamal and enchilada and I some other unforgettable standard; preceded with good chips and salsa, but entrees (but not burrito) predictable provided with the standard saucy, gloppy cheesy mess if rice and beans. Hate to say it, but if you're going to be the same thing as the bigger chains, why should I come spend money with you? Ultimately the best part if the meal was the chips and salsa. This place single-handedly wins the award for THE WORST meal I've had in recent memory. Unfortunately, I remember it all too well. My friend and I were really excited to try a new place, and Sabor a Mexico looked promising. He got the Chorizo Burrito, I ordered the Arroz con Pollo. I was shocked when I took the first bite. It was literally inedible. It was super sweet, drowning in oil. The flavors were horrifically terrible. It was like eating sludge. Nasty, sugary, sludge. I kept eating it, thinking each bite might be a little better than the last. Nope. And his burrito was super greasy. He couldn't finish it - and that's really saying something. We didn't even want to let the server know because messing up 2 dishes doesn't signify a fluke. We didn't want to chance another terrible dish. We boxed up most of our food, and ended up tossing it. And we're not ones to waste food - if we paid for it, we'll eat mediocre food to the last bite. This was worse than mediocre. We just couldn't believe how bad it was: should we cry, or should we laugh? I try not to judge a restaurant based on one experience, but I will never come back here. If anyone tries to make me, I will literally punch that person in the face and then skip happily across SR 526 to Taco Bell. read more

I grew up in Southern California, where they have excellent Mexican food. Since moving to Washington, Hubby and I hadn't found any Mexican places worth going to. That is until we tried Sabor a Mexico. Our chips and salsa were constantly refilled, the prices were fairly low and the portions large. Oh! The best part? This place is owned by Mexican people! I think you really have to appreciate the history of Sabor a Mexico to really love it. The owner now used to work at the restaurant before it was Sabor a Mexico. A few little coincidences lined up and he got the opportunity to purchase the restaurant. It is now a family restaurant filled with love and pride. We had just moved to Mukilteo and this little place was near by. Its in a small strip mall next to a gas station so I was a bit hesitant. When we entered there was a nice lady at the counter and we were sat promptly. That's when we met Reuben. We asked him to make us the margarita that he drinks. He said, "you will love our margarita." It was delish! Possibly the best I've ever had... and reasonable. The pico de gallo and the salsa were superb! They make it fresh and it tastes great. One of the better Washington Mexican food joints, the dishes are typical mexican entree's, not traditional mind you, but typical for American Mexican food. The service is always friendly and my chips and salsa never run low. They do have good coupons too if you are hip on receiving coupons in the mail. Mexican food expert here, just saying. Stopped by this place after coming off the ferry from Whidbey Island. It's in a small strip mall in Mukilteo. It was pretty empty in there when I showed up. The server said I could sit anywhere, which is always nice when you look for optimal seating. Chips where fresh and crispy, not dry. Salsa had some zip with good flavor. I ordered the staple 3 enchiladas, with a cold Pacifico. Food came out within 10mins and piping hot, which I like. Rice and beans where moist not dry which is good, enchiladas where delicious, ground beef was well seasoned. Place was clean and organized, worth the stop. read more

Years ago in Mukilteo (in the 90's), there was a wonderful Mexican restaurant, right off the Mukilteo Speedway. Just about every payday, I'd go down there and enjoy Camerone's Mojo de Ajo... This was a big treat for me, as I was working my first job, and I love shrimp! The amazing staff was always waiting with big smiles, asking if I wanted the usual! I graduated from soda to Margaritas at that restaurant, Always great memories.... I moved away from the area in '97 and eventually one day I came back to visit an they were gone. There was another restaurant in it's place, then another, and then a Chinese restaurant that was supposed to open, but did never did. Finally a new Mexican restaurant opens, Sabor a Mexico! To my surprise, many of the old faces that I came of age seeing, were there, including my favorite waiter! (He even asked if I'd be having my usual! after 8 or 9 years!!!) They had re-opened! This is a resturaunt with fabulous food, fabulous atmosphere, a fabulous staff, (that will put up with your terrible broken spanish) and great cocktails! This place is obviously invested in the community, and make our culinary scene a better. read more

The atmoshere upon entering is that of a fast food place (next to 7-11) We sat down and ordered our drinks, mine was refilled throughout the meal. The salsa was vinegary and thin, not to my liking. They also bring out bean dip which was bland--the same beans that come with dinner. The pico de gallo was okay, but a little watery. The wait staff was very friendly--he had us laughing and our food came out promptly. My companions's was hot and delicious according to her (she ordered the veggie burrito). I ordered a chicken enchilada w/ verde sauce and a beef chalupa. The chalupa was a snooze fest and was almost cold!--seriously Taco Bell's beef has more flavor. My chicken enchilada was passable in flavor but was room temperature and so were the rice and beans which were very bland which seems to be typical of every other mexican restaurant I've been to around the Everett area (except for La Cascada Acapulco--also in Mukilteo-by the ferry). I wouldn't return, considering the other option just down the road. All in all, food was okay, service was great. read more

I come here for lunch on occasion, and the food has typically been pretty good (I'm sure this is Americanized/Seattlized Mexican but I am an Asian from Guam..so what do I know?). Anyway it's good lunch gut bomb food. Decent prices. Service is usually pretty friendly and as long as my salsa, chips, and water don't go empty..i'm happy. My most recent take out was kind of weird though cus as I asked for extra Tortillas (like I normally do when I dine-in) this time they actually charged me extra for it...maybe they always did me a favor before but that kind of sucked. Lastly they asked me for corn or flour tortillas...I said corn, and I came back to work with flour.
