This has been on my list for a while so I decided to give it a try on a take out order. First thing I noticed when I walked in was that I was greeted by a nice friendly smile. The place is well decorated (not cheesy) and clean. I ordered the lunch special (chicken Colorado). They packaged it up tightly and included a nice big bag of chips and salsa. The meat was very flavorful, salsa very tasty...the only hiccup was the tortillas were all stuck together and very hard to peel apart. I do know it's hard to have flour tortillas to go though. Prices seem very reasonable, service (my limited experience) was very good and food more than adequate. I will come back and sample their margaritas. Good first impression! read more

The minute I walked into this Mexican restaurant, I was struck by the art!!! As an artist, this set the mood immediately!!! I loved the various masks that were displayed. I don't know about you but after a long trip I want to sit and enjoy a good meal. Starting with great chips and salsa is important. It gives me a hint of how good the food is going to be. The chips were fresh, crunchy like I like them. The two salsa choices wonderful! Before the chips ran out, more were offered! My friend and I loved our meal! I got the special...spinach quesadillas with fresh guacamole and sour cream. My friend had an enchilada meal... Total price $22. Not bad right!?! Everything fresh!!! Sabor a Mexico is the BEST Mexican place on Earth. =) The service is TOP notch. The owners - Reubin & Enrique are the wait staff as well, and they want every person to enjoy their meal. If there is anything you are not happy with, and I can't imagine what that might be, they will fix it! My husband and I go to Sabor at least once a week, sometimes twice. The salsa is delicious!! Nearly 99% of the time you will get pico de gallo and refried beans with your hot chips without asking. The margaritas? Too much tequila!! haha! Okay, the tequila and mixins are equal so it never tastes like too much tequila, but they aren't afraid to add it like most bartenders! Before Sabor came around, Reubin was the waiter at Viva Mexico, I believe for 14 years? Apparently, the landlord wanted to put in this place called "The Dancing Fish" and the owner of Viva was pretty much forced out. This was a huge disappointment to the entire community. I have to admit, I had a few tears in my eyes when I learned of its fate because it was our regular Thursday night hangout before Survivor. Well, much to my tummy's happiness (and those of others, I'm sure!) a few months down the road "The Dancing Fish" sign came down and UP went a sign reading SABOR A MEXICO!!!! I couldn't believe it. My husband and I went in right away to check it out and there was Reubin with a huge grin on his face, welcoming us to his new restaurant!! Oh my. It was a good day! As far as food goes... my favorites have to be Pollo A La Crema, Chicken Fajitas (well done, hold the peppers), and the Carne Asada. I don't know what they use to marinate the carne asada but boy is it GOOD! My husband loves the Tacos El Carbon and nearly everything else on the menu. He is always trying something new. The entire wait staff are awesome. Even the cooks! Once you get to know them, they will smile at you if you catch their eye while they're busily cooking your food. Since Sabor opened, there is no other Mexican place around that compares. I will give mucho kudos to Mi Tierra in Monroe and Xtapa in Carnation, however. I'm so happy for Reubin, his brother-in-law Enrique, and their family and friends who have opened and run such a successful Mexican restaurant. It's become one of those "staples" here in Mukilteo. Overall it was ok. I would not consider it Mexican as everything I had was covered in cheese, including my taco. The rice and beans were tasty and the tostada was good, but so much cheese on everything and I lived near WI most of my life. Tacos in my past were served with cilantro and onion and this was more of a TexMex variety. Importantly, the margarita saved the experience for me. It was tasty and just strong enough. Went in on a Monday night around 7:30. The restaurant had only 3 tables occupied. We were seated immediately. We ordered the Two Burritos Combo Plate and Enchilada & Chili Relleno Combo Plate. I loved this placed! When we sat down, we were immediately given waters and chips with salsa and pico de gallo. The chips were warm and crispy, and the salsas were delicious. I ordered the large combination plate with a shredded beef taco, a shredded beef tamal, and a chicken enchilada. The name describes how large of a plate this meal comes out on- LARGE. I absolutely loved the shredded beef in the taco and tamal, flavorful and juicy. I ate the chicken enchilada after the beef, and it wasn't as good as the beef. But it was still good! It also was flavorful and juicy. The retried beans and rice were also amazing as well. I ate every bit of my huge meal and loved it all. Service. Attentive. Pretty quick to refill your water and chips without asking. Order some take out for a coworker and they had it ready to go when we paid. They allowed us to all pay on separate checks which is a huge plus when with a bunch of coworkers. Food. Pretty mediocre. Just your standard Mexican food place - do not expect to be wowed. Nice and clean inside. The host was very friendly. I ordered the Tortilla Soup but I thought it was not as great as other places. We did our first carry out. The Chile Colorado burrito combo plate was spectacular. The deluxe chicken tostada was like a salad and the tortilla was soggy. The chicken was dry and no flavor. Not a good tostada, where one likes a crunchy tortilla. Quite expensive for what you get, so you need to figure out what's good to be totally satisfied. We will try again. read more

Service was very friendly and there were no issues with our special requests. I thought it was rude of another reviewer to call the salsa "marinara" but I had to chuckle after my first taste. It did have a flavor of marinara with some jalapenos in it, however it was not bad. I would prefer to stick to the very tasty fresca instead. The fajita taco salad was good but it was a bit lacking in meat and the onions and peppers were not cooked enough for my preference as they were still raw in places. The lettuce was piled high but there was more than what was needed as it was the dominant flavor. Cheese was more of a decoration and not really enough to get the flavor. Sabor a Mexico is what you would expect from Mexican food in the Pacific Northwest, tame. If you're looking for standard Mexican dishes this is the place to go. It's also the only Mexican food place in Mukilteo, I think. Though I wasn't terribly impressed, I'll probably go there again. read more

My family and I started doing takeout from Sabor a Mexico in August and we all love it. The service is extremely friendly and the food is great tasting and very filling. They package the food perfectly so it stays fresh, warm and ready to eat directly out of the tin trays which is also easy to store for leftovers. Convenient, friendly and delicious! read more

So so so good! Came here one afternoon for lunch. They have so many good looking options it was hard to chose, but finally decided on the deluxe burrito. The food came very fast which was impressive with a group of six. Everything looked and tasted amazing. The portions are huge! I took my leftovers home and had enough for a filling lunch the next day. The prices are not bad for the amount you get. The mixed drinks are also very good and definitely not small. Probably some of the best authentic Mexican food!! This is coming from a Hispanic who is used to growing up with homemade food. Everything I have gotten here, is delicious. I typically order their bacon wrapped shrimp, as it's a little outside of the traditional Mexican plate, but it is made to perfection. Other places, (smazteca) leave the bacon looking raw and uncooked. And the shrimp are so large, they seem to be too watery and seem uncooked a little as well. Not these guys!!! Made to perfection, with all the flavor you could ask for. I am glad I only live 3 minutes away from this place. I have to disagree with the other reviews here....while the service is always fast and cheerful, I don't think I would rate the food as that great, just OK. If I come down this direction, I usually will decide to go all the way down to 2nd street (almost to the ferry terminal) to eat at La Cascada Acapulco, where the chips, salsa, and mole are much better, and worth the extra drive. read more

I love Mexican (American) food. I speak with some degree of authority, having spent significant time in Texas, New Mexico, and (si), Mexico herself. Our family has lived here 18+ years. Sabor a Mexico has been our absolute favorite (American) Mexican restaurant in the area. As far back as the "old days" when the restaurant was known as "Viva Mexico." Our son grew up loving Mexican food from this place. Now that he is an adult, and has a girlfriend on "The East Side," we discovered that when they date he actually drives her up here to Sabor a Mexico for Mexican food. Don't ask how we know this. We know EVERYTHING. (But shhhhhhh. I wasn't supposed to tell anybody ;-) My personal favoritos are the enchiladas. "Standard" or tipicas. Quality of the food is outstanding, and portion sizes are plenty. Chips and salsa overwhelming. The staff are wonderful and welcoming. And simply a fun, happy, relaxing place to enjoy a meal. Truly a "taste of Mexico." This might sound a bit stupid, but I am only writing this review now. 1. I am a relative "newbie" to Yelp. 2. I recently had an order that got confused. It happens from time to time, especially over nearly twenty years. But Ruben himself (En espanol? Sorry if I missed the proper spelling) and his team went the extra milla to make things perfect. Not just "right." But perfecto... I only mention this to highlight the OUTSTANDING service we have enjoyed over so many years. This night I was especially reminded of this. I have been here twice now. Both times we had horrible service (we tried again to see of maybe they just had a bad night the first time). NOT THE CASE. I food was alright, neither great nor bad. The service was terrible. We had to seat ourselves after standing there for 10+ minutes, it took them another 5 or so to bring us chips and salsa. They then took our order, and never checked on us again until bringing us the check at the end. This is a small restaurant, there were probably less than 20 people in there. No reason to ignore a paying customer. Do not eat there. You'll have to practically do all the work yourself if you want to get out of there before midnight. read more

This place is within walking distance from my son's & I had eaten there before...but had forgotten how excellent the food is! It is by far & away the best Mexican food I have eaten in the Seattle area. On this visit & opted for the 'special' which was spinach quesadillas ....definitely 'out of the box' & done to perfection. My son had the chili Colorado which he always orders @ Mexican restaurants...he declares it the 'best' but was also impressed with the quesadillas. Drinks are not the usual watery kind. I'm surprised @ the reviewer who complained about the wait service. And GET REAL...you expect a free meal because you spilled soda?!
