My first time here trying the Mangonada! I'm just sad I didn't come sooner... they're the bomb! My husband and I decided to go for a quick walk and we stopped here for some dessert! So happy we did! My son loved his bubble gum ice cream and my daughter got a mango smoothie which she says was great! It helped that my husband speaks Spanish because the cashier was more fluent in Espanol and they hooked us up with an extra stamp on our frequent purchase card!! Mary's Paleteria is easily the epitome of East Side San Jose culture and food. They have all the mexican goodies you could ever imagine-- mangoñadas, piña loca, tostilocos, esquites, and all the chile limon chips in the world. Came here today with my daughter and husband. Great environment, clean , fried ly staff! Hubby and I got the strawberry licuado and my daughter got a scoop of ice cream . The menu looks all soo good, prices are reasonable. The lady who made out licuados saw my daughter took mine and told one of the staff to give her the rest of what was left of mine and the hubby's drinks which was nice of her! I came to this located because my friend recommended me the "Piña Loca." I had tried the piña loca at United paleteria and loved it so I wanted to see if this one was the same. The owner is super friendly and talkative. She prepared it and I could tell she was paying attention to detail. I also got a lime ice cream and it was very good. The "Piña Loca" was okay. It was prepared nicely and had tajin, lime, chamoy and hot sauce. I personally like more stuff added like Japanese peanuts, chamoy candy and tamarind candy to it. If you don't like a lot on your fruit then this is a good place to get your "Piña Loca." read more

Nice little place in alum rock, the business looks nice and clean but the young lady that helped us did not look very happy to be there. So we order raspados which in the board it said they were $5 each ok when it came to pay 3 raspados it was a total of 19.50. I was blown away with the total. So I asked the girl why it was so expensive, she told me that the price changed but not on the board, really! Nice way to take the customer for a sucker. I could have just leave the raspados there and walked away because at that point I was very upset. But I paid and walked away. The raspados were not even good. None of finish them. But I do have to say that this were the most expensive raspados ever purchased in my entire life. So no I don't recommend the place at all. Quality of product not good and way to pricey. I am from México, so i know Mexican food and dessert. I drove by this place, coming home from work and decided to check it out. I was instantly greeted and looked inside the store-they have a selected stock of Mexican junk food at a great price selection. I looked up @ their gigantic menu, and everything looked fabulous. I chose the hotdog which looked fantastic, and it was the Mexican style which in my opinion tastes better than the American version. I got it will all the fixings, and got it to go. It tasted fantastic and reminded me of México. I have recommend this place to all my friends, and have been back since. Let me just start by saying that this place is GARBAGE! called in an order since our favorite Mangonada place was closed (Nieveria Y Paleteria Penaloza) which is 10 times Better!! i asked them if they deliver since i work from 8-5 and we wanted to place a large order and she said yes! so we ordered 90 bucks worth of mangoneadas and Tostilocos, since we have people in the office who cant eat spicy foods i asked Mary to customize 3 of those mangoneadas without the chile, she said yes. the order gets here and i notice that all of them have chile on them so i call back and she appologizes and also says that she will send me three mangoneadas WITHOUT chile and also because of her error a PIna Preparada for free the next day. i call the next day like i was instructed to do and try to place my order and the lady at the front says that she cannot deliver the items today that i would have to wait till friday to get my free stuff, (its Wednesday BTW) Again i call the place on Friday and no answer, call again someone answers but quickly hangs up, finally get the same girl on the phone who answered the first time and says we CANT deliver till after 4pm!! AGAIN i work from 8am-5pm i tell her thats not going to work, she gives me Mary's cell number (who originally took my Order) i finally get her on the phone and tells me that why am i calling her business to complain about 18 dollars!? i was stunned that a business owner would even stoop to this level and answer a customer like this! there were also other things said which i will not post This is not how a business should be ran and i felt so disrespected! I have not eaten at this establishment but I had an unfortunate incident with the owner and staff regarding parking in front of their Paleteria. They were rude and ignorant of the law about public parking spaces. I can only say that if they were rude and ignorant about what is lawful, then they cannot be a good establishment to visit. It was that bad that I had filed this incident with San Jose Police. I would give them zero stars if I only could for giving such a bad impression on a potential customer like I was. read more
