Very nice people serving very spicy food. I hade a chicken burrito smothered with red chili and a side of chips and guac. The burrito was filled with chicken and green chilies. Woo boy. Very spicy. I really appreciated the flavor of the red chili. I don't love the boiled quality of the chicken when cooked with the green chili. The guac was good but too small of a serving for me. We pulled into Taos and we were famished. We looked online and the reviews for this spot were great! We walked in and there was a huge group that was celebrating a birthday. A great sign for us - they were all speaking Spanish! They're very new, they did not have an alcohol license yet. We ordered a combination plate with chicken tamales, relleno and cheese enchilada. We had it with both green sauce and red sauce, it's called Christmas sauce or divorciados. Awesome to get both sauces - it was so good! We also ordered shrimp la Diablo. It was amazing. It's spicy, so do not order if you cannot handle spicy foods. We ordered a chocolate flan. It was the first time we had ordered dessert in Taos. Glad to have tried to bite but I was not a huge fan. Hands down the most flavorless Mexican food I have ever had. Even their house hot sauce lacked character. Stopped in for lunch and ordered fajitas. The sizzling plate it came on is standard, but the totally charred meat and vegetables sticking to it was not. Iced tea was weak. Everything was bland. Went here because of the good reviews. Yelp reviews really overstated the food, the margaritas and the ambience. We went in full of hope. The green and red chile that smothered my burrito was flat, some mild spice with the green but red was bland. Our margaritas were very watery, not tasty at all. The staff were all very nice. My first time to visit Taos and I loved it. After so many hours of driving, I checked Yelp for a good recommendation for lunch! Sabor Real was listed with a 4.8 rating and sounded great! It was also about 5 minutes from our location! There was a patio outside in front and wa walked in to a good size dining room and a second room to our left. Great place for parties and larger groups. Our server greeted us and said "sit wherever you like." There were 3 tables that were occupied so we sat next to the front window. We were given water and our menus. Our server returned to take our order. My husband quickly asked "what is your best dish?" Response, "we are known for our tamales and chile rellenos." Sold!!!! Hubs got the tamales with Christmas chile and I ordered the chile rellenos! Hubs said the tamales were very good, but wished he had asked for more chile. We both enjoyed the rice & beans, and my rellenos were absolute Perfection‼. Stuffed with lots of cheese, lightly breaded, and most importantly stem removed and pan fried!!! The only con was the menu says their plates come with guacamole, but it was nothing more than a 1/2 teaspoon size added to a bit of lettuce for decoration! read more

For reasons that I can't quite understand, when I search Mexican restaurants in Taos, it doesn't even come up on this site. It should! I came in here because the restaurant down the street I was headed to was too busy. I needed to eat so I didn't even look this place up. I just took a chance. Sometimes it pays to just take a chance! I got a pork tamale with the red chile sauce. Wow! The masa was light, the pork was tender and flavorful, and the red sauce was out of this world! I will be back. Food was excellent. Different than Michael's but such a good home-made flavor. I had the omelette with all the veggies and bacon, added green chili. She had breakfast enchiladas with red chili. Side of crispy bacon. I asked for my potatoes to be well done but got the usual "medium rare" the way everyone serves them. I don't complain as it just too much of a hassle to get them well done. I don't want to send my plate of hot food back just for that. Still they were very tasty and I cleaned my plate. Columbian coffee was very good. Service here was friendly and efficient. I sense it is mostly family working here. The interior is basically what Bearclaw left behind. Simple, comfortable, basic. The dining room was very clean, as was the restroom. This family owned Taos treasure should be protected at all costs. Axyl is one of the most delightful people I've had the pleasure of speaking with in Taos. We've ate here twice already this week and will be making this a regular stop as often as we can. We've had 6 items here and they were all spectacular. Just watch out that red sauce packs a punch. Their menu is extensive for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Prices are extremely reasonable. From a Washington persons perspective it was amazingly cheap! The servings are enormous so be ready for a take away or to be in a delicious food coma after eating here. There are great savory options for a breakfast packed with protein but don't overlook their pancakes. The menu gives you options to pick and chose what you want (in my case: a tamale and a pancake) If you like a little bit of spice don't forget to ask for their spicy red sauce it is stellar with the tamale. I had the shrimp fajitas and for the first time, the shrimp were perfectly cooked and so tasty! Both homemade salsas were amazing, but not for the faint of heart. My table mates exclaimed over their rellanos, combination plate and carne adovada. We enjoyed it so much, we ordered a breakfast burrito to share for on the way out of town the next morning... equally as tasty as the fare the evening before. They'll be in our rotation for sure. We stopped in for a quick meal before an event we were attending. It isn't often that you get a wowee delicious surprise when taking a chance on a new place. We shared the huge Carne Asada Quesadilla. Absolutely delicious. In the same week, we returned for a slower-paced yummy dinner - Enchiladas with red and green sauce, beans, and posole. The green had a different sort of mild (sweeter?) taste to me - perhaps a regional recipe I had not encountered before. The service was perfect.
