Took my in-laws here to celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary, and we all loved it! Food was delicious, and our server Carolina went above and beyond. She showed such patience for my elderly in-laws and handled everything with grace. I wish I took more photos, but we were having such a good time that I forgot. The restaurant is cozy and welcoming. It got a little noisy at times, but it was nice to see a new restaurant doing good business. Seafood was fresh and portions were generous. Good caipirinhas and cappuccinos too!
Cuisine: 7 Service: 4 Decor: 8 Value: 5 Overall: 6 This part of Newark is full of Portuguese restaurants that I have been wanting to try. I had the chance to try one of the most popular spots a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. I will say that the interior design of the main dining is quite beautiful, with an exposed brick wall, large windows, and some elegant hanging lights. The bar area was also quite attractive. Sadly, the service did not match the decor. With an early dinner reservation, we were one of only two tables inside the restaurant. We did not order any appetizers, just two entrees. Somehow, we wait a full hour for our food to be served. In between, our waitress only came by once to say it's coming after 30 minutes of waiting. The next 30 minutes felt like an eternity, yet no apologies or any complimentary snacks while we sat there for an hour. When the food did arrive, I was surprised that the Skirt Steak was so small for the price. It also was lacking some nice grilled flavor that I'm accustomed to, though it was medium rare like we ordered. The second dish we got was the Codfish, which was overall pretty tasty but somewhat dry. As for the sides, the sautéed mushrooms and breaded bananas were okay. Honestly, we regret not choosing a more traditional restaurant in the neighborhood. I guess we got bamboozled by the charming ambience, which did not translate to equal quality of service.

Drinks: Caipirnha and Red Sangria The bartenders are true artists, crafting cocktails that are as smooth and timeless as the vinyls playing in the background! Food: Fries I just missed the kitchen but thanks to Louis, I was able to get an order of fries. Perfect crunch and the green sauce was delicious! I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu 10/10, I highly recommend
I recently visited this Portugal/Brazilian restaurant with my supper club, and all seven of us were thoroughly impressed. The food, ambience, and service created a complete and memorable dining experience. We opted for family-style dining and ordered three starters: grilled calamari, shrimp, and octopus. The standout was the grilled shrimp with garlic sauce, especially when paired with the bread provided. We all eagerly soaked up the garlic sauce and wished there was more on the plate. For our entrées, we ordered the special chicken of the day, steak, cod fish, and the standout dish, which was the cod fish oven-baked in a creamy sauce. I could have eaten that one dish all by myself! The owner was super sweet and friendly. The wait staff was attentive. Btw., all that great food was reasonably priced, can't wait to come back and try other dishes on the menu! As we left the restaurant we noticed the adjacent space was under renovation for expansion of the restaurant. So excited for them! They won't have any problem filling up the bigger space!!!
What a cute spot in the heart of the Portuguese section of Newark. The waitress was super friendly and helped us with the menu. The food was great , we started with garlic shrimp and pork sausage with yucca. I could bathe in the garlic sauce, I dunked bread in it all night. The pork sausage was perfectly cooked, little crispy nuggets with that little char for extra flavor. Yucca was crispy and I loved that it was also served in bite sized nuggets, I am used to it served like thick fries. For the main I had to get traditional whole codfish. Perfectly cooked, flakey with a simple onion and pepper topping , it was great! Looking forward to their expansion next door
This is my first time in Newark, and I was walking around and stumbled upon Sabor Unido. This is a Brazilian and Portuguese Kitchen and so I stopped to grab a bite. I am so excited that I did. For dinner I ordered the Grilled Codfish, which came with two sides--I chose white rice and a garden salad. My choice was delicious. The codfish came with grilled red peppers and onions and it was beautiful. The onions and peppers were fully cooked but still had a bit of crispness when you bite into them. The codfish was seasoned well, and from the first to the last bite was amazing. The slight.crust on the top was crispy yet thiwhite fish inside was tender and moist. The garden salad was a mix of veggies and I believe it had diced mango as well. For dessert I decided to treat myself and has the mixed berry mousse and it was heaven. It was a good thing I was dining alone because this is a dessert I would never have shared! The mousse was flavorful and firm, cold, and the fruit on top was perfect. The staff tonight were extremely friendly and made me feel welcome. Even though I am from out of state I felt like a valued local customer. If you are in Newark I highly recommend having a great meal at Sabor Unido.
Such a hidden gem in Newark. Only a quick 15 min drive from Branch Brook, this restaurant was exactly what my friend and I needed after visiting the park. We were able to reserve a table for 2 via Yelp, and the restaurant called us to make sure we were on our way and even accommodated for our lateness (thank you!) Street parking is a little bit difficult in the city, but well worth the hassle. Inside, the restaurant is small and intimate with fun Brazilian music playing in the background. Servers were friendly and helpful. It was my first time at a Brazilian restaurant (not including Fogo de Chao) and she recommended some fan favorites. - Tutu a Mineira: 4/5, pork chop was a bit dry, but the greens were well seasoned and the beans and sausages paired nicely with the dish - Liver steak: 4/5, my first time having liver steak. If you don't like gamey meat you may not like this. Paired well with the sautéed onions and crispy yucca fries. The fried plantains were my favorite side. Recommend to eat quickly or else the liver steak gets too tough to chew Huge portions, great service and warm setting. A bit on the pricier side, so would recommend coming here for special occasions. Looking forward to trying their other dishes if I'm ever in the area. okkk ty for reading :)
Truly a gem in the downtown Newark area. The service is excellent, polite and attentive. The portions are large and so is the value! I enjoyed everything I ate. The picahna was a large portion. The meat could have been softer but the flavors made up for anything that was lacking. Make sure to finish your meal with some churros!
Came here with friends for hangout and dinner. We were seated outside and the weather then was awesome for the setup. As soon as I checked in with the app it offered free espresso. The espresso was amazing, and tasty. It lifted my spirits! We ordered Octopus as appetizer and they were freshly made and super tasty when eaten with combination of the sauce. Delicious! Garlic breads were amazing. They were free appetizers. They were crispy, fresh, and the garlic sauce imbued into the bread were flavorful and perfectly done. I ordered encores :) My friends had multiple plates and they looked fantastic. I didn't get to taste their dishes because mine was superb I ordered the Picanha Grelhada / Top Sirloin Steak. OMG. The fat section of the steak was delicious. I had the best steak ever in a while. I would definitely re-order this dish in the future. I had it with Sauteed spinach and fired yucca. Best combo ever. Definitely must if you are interested. Look at the picture I am bookmarking this place to come back in the future. Love it!

Best Brazilian food hands down ever at a restaurant! They don't have rodizio, but all the other dishes are authentic and absolutely delicious. This is the only restaurant I can say tastes just like homemade Brazilian food. I've been here multiple times and have yet to be disappointed. For appetizers, I highly recommend the Shrimp in Garlic sauce, fried yucca and pork sausage, and my personal favorite: frango passarinho. For entrees, the liver steak with onions (a classic Brazilian dish that most restaurants won't serve in the US) is my go to. It's so good that it beats my mother's dish (she confirmed it herself). Once in a while I will change it up a bit and order the picanha (top sirloin steak), Brazilian pork chop with tutu mineira, or the Feijoada (only served on Saturdays in true Brazilian tradition). They also have specialty dishes on different days. My go to sides are the spinach, collard greens and plantains. Save room for dessert! The Brazilian flan and passion fruit mousse are delicious. read more

An absolute gem in Harrison! I met with a friend after a long time and couldn't have picked a better place to catch up. We sat there talking our ears off and the service was exceptional without being rushed. This location is BYOB so we got a bottle of wine to enjoy with the food. Coming to the food, we got the garlic shrimp as an appetizer after reading all the amazing reviews and we weren't disappointed. I got the strip steak and my friend got the red snapper and both were great choices. Each entree comes with 2 sides each so we picked the sautéed mushrooms, sweet potato fries, yuca fries and rice & beans. We ended up packing some of it since it was a lot of food. Would definitely recommend 10/10 to coming here. Also we were able to find street parking on Thursday eve pretty easily! read more

Goodness, what new is there to say about a place that already has 500+ reviews? First time there last night, had the grilled calamari entree with sides of white rice, stewed pinto beans and sauteed collard greens. Each and every component of the meal was a star in and of itself, but the greens were another level. Finely sliced in a chiffonade, the greens were quickly cooked over high heat with plenty of garlic and seasoning. They were likely finished with butter - tastewise they were heavenly. Tying it all together was a tableside bottle of homemade hot sauce that was remarkably fragrant (aside from moderate heat). Service was very friendly if a bit on the slow side. It looks like they're getting new digs in the adjacent space facing Ferry Street. The location looks bigger and I hope the increased size isn't the kiss of death as it so often is for family restaurants. read more

I live in the neighborhood where this restaurant resides and I finally made it on a Friday night for the 1st time after 4 years. Me and my dinner guest sat outside. Perfect weather and a perfect evening. The ambiance is very relaxing. The music is an added bonus to the overall vibe. My steak and onions were cooked perfectly. The sautéed mushrooms are amazing. The mashed potatoes were full of flavor. My guest had the picana but it was a bit overcooked and dry. But the rice and beans and garlic greens were yummy. We also ordered a pitcher of Sangria. Unfortunately it wasn't good which is why my rating is 4* instead of 5. Additionally the service was slow. While everyone was friendly they may have just been overwhelmed as it was no small crowd. I would definitely come back but I will bring my own bottle of wine. I do recommend anyone give them a try. read more

Every food item on this menu was absolutely delicious. The service could have been a bit faster and more attentive but the food made up for it. For appetizers, we did camarao a guilho (shrimp), mandioca com linguica (yucca and pork sausage) and lulas fritas (calamari). All of them were absolutely delicious. My personal favorite was the calamari. It is easy to overfry them or use poor quality squad that tastes rubbery but this was far from it. WIth a bit of lemon, it was delicious especially with the tomato puree! For my entree, I opted for the picanha grelhada (top sirloin steak). I asked for it medium rare and it may have been cooked a bit rarer than that but still was juicy. It was a great cut of meat and priced very fairly ($22). The side of plantains came out steaming hot and were sweet and paired well with the steak. If you're nearby, definitely check it out! Awesome Brazilian/Portuguese cuisine! read more

4 & 1/2 If you're looking for a more modern take on the Ironbound experience this place is definitely a clutch move IMO. Skirt steak is a strong contender for best in the tri-state, forget about the fact that it's a fraction of the price for what you pay for sub par-skirt elsewhere in the neighborhood. Mix and match options with the delicious sides on the lunch menu also a huge plus. The cool staff and patrons only add to the cosmopolitan vibe and you find you have to keep reminding yourself that you are in fact in Newark and not a chic district of Sao Paolo. read more

Amazing experience. We decided to swing by Newark for dinner after a day at Sandy Hook, and the restaurant happily accommodated our group (9) on a busy Saturday night. We sat indoors, in the back corner where we were away from the other guests. But they have a beautiful outdoor seating area too. This place is BYOB, and you can grab some wine from the liquor store a block away. For appetizers, we had shrimps, calamari, and sausages. Calamari was typical, but the shrimps and sausages were out of this world! We all got different entrees to try, and they were delicious: Brazilian pork chop, sea bass, hanger steak, and the octopus (I feel bad recommending it after watching the Netflix show). The owner Orlando came over to chat with us..it is important to support family-owned restaurants. Don't forget to check in on Yelp, as their iced latte was super refreshing. read more

No wonder this restaurant was named Yelp top 100! What a wonderful experience. This restaurant is cozy and warm, with a diverse mix of families, friends, and couples dining. We were warmly greeted and sat immediately for our 7:30 reservation. We started with the calamari which was so crispy and fresh. For our main entrees, we had the skirt steak and Brazilian chicken. Neither disappointed. Dessert was also a hit, coconut and Brazilian flan made in house everyday! And don't forget the coconut lemonade ! A must try !!!! read more

After arriving at Newark Airport around lunchtime, we decided to visit the nearby historic Ironbound District for some Portuguese food. Based on the reviews, we decided to try Sabor Unido and we're really glad we did. The food, service and the warm, friendly, family vibe were all fantastic. We enjoyed grilled sea bass and squid, both of which were excellent and perfectly prepared - as were our sides of mashed potatoes, sautéed mushrooms, and fried yucca! Our server, Letitia, was lovely and professional, and we had the chance to chat for a few minutes with the owners, who treated us like "regulars." Just an all around great experience! We will definitely be back the next time we're in town. Do yourself a favor and visit this restaurant ASAP!!! read more
Came for dinner with the fam on a Friday night. Keep in mind its a small space so you might wanna make reservations. Drinks: Sangria- not that good, Didnt have a rich sangria flavor or maybe the wine wasnt that sweet. We got a pitcher of it and it poured about 8 cups- the glasses are pretty small though. Mojito- a little better, didnt taste much alcohol though. They don't have a drinks/cocktail menu- the waiter just told us whatever 3-4 options they have. Food: Garlic shrimp- really good! and the sauce is packed with flavor. small portion though. Calamari- good as well, very crisp and good batter- not too thick and didnt flake off. gave very little marinara though. Skirt Steak- meh nothing special. Chicken Marsala- so good and creamy! but my husband said it was too creamy for what a marsala usually is, you get tired of it after a couple bites. Sea Bass- okay but they literally give you the whole fish (head and all) so that was a pain to enjoy without getting bones. Plantains- not the sweet maduro type, just fried bananas. Rice & beans- good rice, pinto beans. i was hoping for black beans but maybe thats not their style. Tres leches cake- didnt taste the milk and cream as much, more so was a regular cake, missing a lot of the leche. Return? Probably not. Recommend? not my first choice but its good if you want to experiment new types of food. read more

This is a great spot with excellent food. I had the robalo fish and I loved it. Most of the plates come with the option of 2 sides, but if you get the Brazilian staple "rice and beans" they'll let you choose a third side. Thank you Sabor Unido team. read more

This hole in the wall restaurant serves authentic Portuguese cuisines. The waitress was very informative and courteous. It looks like a newly renovated place, so it does have a clean look. Very small, and you may be within a few feet to your neighboring table. The food was very tasty. The grilled octopus was not rubbery at all, and the roasted mini potatoes that came with it was tender (not firm). The steak was cooked the way I wanted it, not overdone. They have a homemade hot sauce. Be advised it is very spicy, and will burn your insides haha. I believe it is made from habaneros. The reason why I didn't give it five star was that, even though the food was tasty, I felt like they didn't give enough to fill you up. Usually when you go to the hole in the wall places you get so much food that you end up taking a some back home with you. FYI: Ask for some bread so you can wipe the oil from the grilled octopus dish. It's very heavenly. TIP: They have different daily specials, and are posted on their website. Check it out before you go in. BONUS TIP: There is a free Espresso when you check in with Yelp. read more
