So, in the [redacted] number of years in which I left Florida and moved to Nashville, I have been on the hunt in Middle Tennessee to replicate the flavors and food I enjoyed in the 305. I'm still looking. It was a new year and I was feeling adventurous. Some yelpers had made mention of a new(ish) Venezuelan spot in Antioch and I wasn't doing much on a Friday night so... I drove south to see what was what. The strip mall Totuma is in has a few Latin American restaurants so if you're looking for sazon, you can take a trip around the plaza and have something new for a while. I parked and walked in with excitement. I was greeted with a sigh, shrug and a not-so-inviting look. Had traffic not been so bad I would have walked out. Maybe I should have. First impressions have a lot of power and my first impression was that I was unwelcome in that place. Trying to power through, I approached the young woman at the hostess stand and tried to engage in some friendly small talk. Nope. Not interested. This was getting worse. Not wanting to continue the pain, I ordered, paid, sat, and waited for my food. The dining room wasn't very busy which allowed me to feel the burn of her stare. I don't know what the problem was but I was beginning to wonder if it was me. Mercifully, my food was ready. The hostess dropped at at the table I was sitting without a word. Cool. I drove home in a bit of a funk. Food is nourishment, yes, but I can (should) also make you feel good. I was not feeling good. I got home with hopes that my belly would take over for my feelings. The double order of papa yuca started things off well. The best I can describe this is yuca balls with cheese. As most things fried with cheese, these were good. Not great. Good. But at this point, I would take 'good.' For my main, I had a trio of arepas: shredded beef, chicken and pork. The arepas were a good size and each came with a generous portion of meat. But all three meats were incredibly salty to the point of being inedible... and I can eat a lot of not-so-great things. Coupled with the overwhelming salt bomb, the food tasted devoid of emotion. It sounds dumb to say but you can sense when food is made with passion/love/fervor. You can also sense when it's not there. It wasn't there. The search continues.

The food is always fresh, tasty and authentic. Maybe my only complaint would be that they don't always have my favorite desserts. Lol Everything I've tried is good. The patacon is a generous size for the price. It can be shared if you're not feeling hungry. Totally family friendly and they have a small stage, I believe they have seasonal performances. The area? I mean... not the best but not the worst. The parking is shared with the other business. Must try!
