I noticed this place because I have come into this plaza for boba tea (go here for happy hour special but be aware it is all powder), Ethiopian food (yum!) and also tried the nail place (nice place, good prices, and my nails look good!). Finally came here for breakfast on Saturday. The place is small, but seems clean and very well taken care of. The peeps working there are very nice--they say hello and seem genuinely friendly, check in on you, and thank you for coming in. Following the old business motto for repeat business so it seems like a local mom and pop store? The breakfast menu is printed on the menu board, but they also have a piece of paper with other breakfast specials. The dude on the register seemed new, but was really nice and helpful. I ordered the scrambled eggs with biscuits and gravy with sausage. Delish!!!! Not overly seasoned which is a shocker in Tempe. Gravy was delicious biscuits were perfect texture cuz it was soft but not too gooey from the gravy. I personally wouldn't have minded a bit of crunch, but it was not dry and very tasty. Sacks is an ASU tradition, so I was glad when the location on Hardy opened up. Great sandwiches and I was taken back on how great the salads and breakfast was. This visit I tried the Remington, a special with grilled chicken, jack cheese, green chili's, grilled onions, jalapeños, and feta yogurt dressing and it was the best sandwich I have had in a really long time. Top that with the homemade cookies, and it's a great meal and very affordable. Staff is awesome and really goes out of their way to make your entire experience the best. I stopped in for a quick bite to eat for lunch today in the hopes of finding a new awesome spot to eat. I ordered the symphony without avocado and stated I have a severe allergy to avocado. When I received my sandwich I noticed tomato was crossed off my bag but not avocado. Before leaving I checked the sandwich and it was missing the tomato but had avocado on both halves. I walked back to the counter and waited until someone looked my way eventually and explained I'm severely allergic to avocado again and needed to send it back. The girl at the front kind of just looked at me with a confused looked and said okay and took the bag from me. I did not receive an apology or anything other than looks and an "okay". I watched her write on another bag and placed it in the window. I was then given another bag this time with avocado crossed off. I did a quick peek in the bag to assure I did not see large chunks of avocado again and then left. Upon returning back to work and going to eat, I opened up the Sandwich and found not avocado slices, but the skin to the avocado. As my avocado allergy is severe, as I had told them twice, I was unable to eat my sandwich. I paid $14.68 minus the tip I gave to only walk away being able to eat a small bag of Doritos. Food allergies are something a lot of us have to take very serious. I'm always very good about telling an establishment about my allergies and can usually understand and forgive when a mistake is made. However, to send it back to then receive the skin which shouldn't be anywhere in ANY sandwich is beyond me. Obviously food allergies are not a priority here and had I not looked again, it could have ended very badly. The price was already steep for what was received but for food allergies to be ignored not once, but twice and to have to throw it away.... That is not okay. I will not be returning and would advise anyone with an allergy to be very cautious as this place does not take them seriously at all. read more

I arrived with great anticipation, having studied the imaginative menu and read so many 5-star yelp* reviews. I expected a great experience. I arrived just after noon on D-Day, and the restaurant was full at 12:15. The wall-posted menus behind the counter were overwhelming. So many choices! My planned order got switched in the "fog of menu war." This place was running w/ Swiss precision - the kitchen was humming in the background and up front, the cashiers (mine was Thomas) were dedicated to best-practice, friendly, patient customer service. Amazing! My two sandwiches came out in a flash, & I was off to a conference call at home. SANDWICH #1: WOW! The Reuben had "real" smoky, deli pastrami. The crispy marble rye was grilled so well, and the balanced 1K-island/Kraut was perfect. As good as I've ever had! I just wish that there were more meat, since that is for what I was there. But, so satisfying! SANDWICH #2: Ultimate Cheese Steak. Okay, Philly, sorry, but this is just NOT one of the world's best sandwich concepts. (Chicago Beef wins hands-down.) However, Sacks's Cheesesteak version is a good rendition of the classic, a baguette packed w/ sauteed steak & onion w/ cheeses, full of flavor. Unfortunately, the steak & onion filling was SO SALTY I could barely eat it. Apparently, the sauteeing process involved OVER-SEASONING components on the flattop, exacerbated by salty cheese combos. Cooks/chefs need to remember that the cumulative levels of seasoned components can overwhelm & ruin a dish, as it did here. Of course, this was just one menu item. Please, don't misunderstand my review... All Food Service Operations need constant monitoring & tweaking. (Yes, I know from experience...) Sacks deserves its high praise. I was outside in the side parking lot taking a selfie minding my own business and the owner was out smoking in the outside seating area and asks me if he can help me . I kindly replied no thank you. He the proceeds to assume I was taking a picture of the side of his building by saying " your taking a pic of my building". I replied I was taking a selfie on the parking lot and I wasn't taking a pic of his establishment . He then proceeds to raise his voice accusing me of taking a pic of his business? I used to come here once a week when I worked at ASU so decided to check it out today. Easy to find parking despite being on campus. The male cashier is probably the nicest dude I've ever met, he even offered us cups for water since it's so melty outside. I ordered the Symphony, my husband got the mona. Both pretty good, except for mine had that hard outside part of the avocado in it. The part that connects it to a tree. Hard AF and almost damaged my tooth. My family is probably OBSESSED with this place! The owners are a husband and wife and they are both such friendly and funny people! If I had to pick, my two favorite sandwiches are the chicken salad and the egg salad from the regular menu but I LOVE trying their specials. Today, my family came in for the breakfast that they serve on Saturday's. I got their waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. RECOMMEND! You will not regret it! Perfectly crispy on the outside, so fluffy and light on the inside. It did not even need the whipped cream! (But I don't regret it!) My husband got an open faced bagel sandwich. They make their own chive cream cheese and then topped it with heirloom tomatoes and melted cheese. I had to have a bite because it looked so delicious! It 100% did NOT disappoint. My father in law got the smothered hash browns. They are topped with this drool-worthy gravy... I'm honestly drooling thinking of it. Long story short... HIGHLY RECOMMEND. They do to-go, dine in, and I think they are on EVERY delivery service!! But that is not what brought my update from a 2 start to a 1 star...it was the bathroom!! Oh my goodness! Someone call the maid I think something has died in here (a few times)! Take a look at my pictures, there is rust all over the trash can, a grimmy 'weathered' look over all the appliances and floor, and look at the walls!! The fries I ordered, and I am around a mile from the place were limp, soggy and inedible same with my sandwich. SOGGY and disgusting. I can't eat any of it. I took one bite of the roast beef and got a big bite of gristly fat. I opened it up to look more and the roast beef is a unsettling grey color. I really cannot believe this was thought to be ok to send to a customer. I'll never go here OR use Door Dash again. It's a HUGE waste of money. On this trip I ordered the Sack's Encore a hot sandwich (Prime steak, melted provolone, sautéed onions, hot peppers, feta yogurt dressing & lettuce with grated parmesan, on an 8 inch baguette with a side of potato salad. I just want to say this place is very good. I have been a regular and can't seem to stay away! The workers are friendly not very talkative but I don't like chit chat anyway so I don't mind.
