I searched Yelp for watch repair and discovered Bailey's Fine Jewelry on Providence Road, just a few miles from Uptown. What a wonderful discovery. From the moment I walked in, this felt different from your typical jewelry store. Bailey's is a beautiful, spacious, family-owned jeweler, but what impressed me most was how welcoming and comfortable the experience felt. Bailey's has been locally owned in North Carolina since 1948, and the Charlotte location carries on the legacy of longtime Charlotte jeweler Morrison Smith. I was greeted immediately and escorted to the watch counter. The associate taking care of me offered coffee, tea, a soft drink or sparkling water while I waited. I chose sparkling water and was handed a glass bottle of Perrier tucked into a black Bailey's koozie. Now that is a nice touch. While they worked on my watch, I wandered around. The store is gorgeous and much larger than I expected, with fine jewelry alongside beautiful gifts, frames, crystal, jewelry boxes and other pieces. I also appreciated being able to browse without feeling followed or pressured. The clientele was equally welcoming and refreshingly diverse--different ages, backgrounds and styles. Nobody needed to look a certain way to belong there. For a high-end jewelry store, I found that especially refreshing. You can also see into the watchmaking/work area through glass, which I loved. Everything looked immaculate and organized, and being able to see the professionals at work added a sense of transparency. Eventually I settled into one of the big club chairs by the windows with my Perrier and a jewelry magazine. A gentleman brought my finished watch directly to me on a little velvet tray. Such an elegant touch for something as simple as replacing a battery. Then came the biggest surprise. I walked over to pay, and the associate told me there was no charge for the battery replacement. Instead, Bailey's asks customers to make a donation to a local charity. How fantastic is that? I later looked it up because I wanted to understand the program. Bailey's calls it "A Time to Give." Rather than charging customers for watch-battery replacement, Bailey's absorbs most of the cost and asks for a charitable donation instead. Each store selects organizations to support, and Bailey's says the program has now donated more than $1 million to the communities it serves. I happily donated $20. As I was leaving, I tried to return the Bailey's koozie and just take my Perrier. Nope. She told me to keep the koozie, too. From a customer-service and branding perspective, somebody at Bailey's understands hospitality. That little black Bailey's koozie is coming home with me, and every time I use it, I'll remember this experience. That's how you create a customer--and perhaps an accidental brand ambassador. My only caution is parking. The Charlotte store is directly on Providence Road, and the front parking area is tight. Pulling back into fast-moving traffic requires patience, so take your time. I'm going to investigate whether there's another parking option for my next visit. And there will be a next visit. I went to Bailey's Fine Jewelry because I needed a watch battery. I left wanting to come back and explore the store. That says a lot. So if your watch has stopped ticking, don't automatically head to the mall. Bailey's offers watch-battery replacement, and that simple errand supports something much bigger in the community. Life is too short not to sleep well, eat well, travel well--and now I'm adding shop well. Bailey's Fine Jewelry, you've officially made the list.

The only work needed was supplying a new lab grown pink sapphire and resetting it with new prongs. I was sold what I was told was an AA quality lab grown sapphire, approximately 5 to 6 carats, and charged $4,800 for the stone and the reset. After the fact, I discovered that comparable lab grown sapphires sell for a small fraction of that price, often only a few hundred dollars, even for stones of similar size and quality. I feel completely taken advantage of. Had I known the actual market value of lab grown sapphires, I never would have agreed to this purchase. Charging this amount for a lab grown stone and a simple reset left me feeling misled and extremely disappointed. This was one of the worst jewelry buying experiences I've ever had, and I cannot recommend Ballantyne Jewelers. I feel I was grossly overcharged. If you're considering having custom jewelry work done, get multiple quotes and research current lab grown gemstone prices before committing.

Then in September 2023 she sent an email about scheduling for 2024 and I had to schedule immediately (and pay) for the next year because she said that appointments were almost full. My then 92 year old uncle only wanted every other month appointments so I paid $620 for 2024. Unfortunately, my uncle died before using his 2024 appointments. Although Melissa asked me to give her two months for a refund, which I did, and she sent me a photo of the refund precessing a month ago - still no refund and only long, dramatic diatribes instead from her. This was my experience and I would not recommend this company and would not want other customers to fight for refunds and deal with all of this nonsense. I believe she just got back from a month long vacation which makes it worse. I hope this helps others who may be thinking of using her services.

My best friend and I came in here yesterday to get septum piercings and we could not have possibly had a better experience. Right away the man at the counter started telling us everything we would need to know about our piercings, and the fact that the people here are so knowledgeable really put us at ease. They were sure to tell us every bit of information we might need, even the potential difficulties we might have, so that we knew exactly what we were in for with a septum piercing. When we were actually getting our piercings done, the woman who helped us made it a very relaxed environment. She was very easy to talk to and walked us through every step of the procedure so that we would know what was coming, including potential complications that would occur with either of us (having to pierce through my friend's cartilage due to her lack of sweet spot, my piercing being potentially visible due to my low sweet spot) so that we could make informed decisions about our piercings. Overall, it was an amazing experience. It really shows that the people here know what they're doing and do it well. I will be returning here for any piercings I get in the future and will be recommending Sadu to everyone I know! read more

Hands down, this studio is the cleanest, most inviting, and professional place I have ever walked into! Everyone working there so obviously respects each other and their clients! My friend and I walked in yesterday to get a new piercing. I got my tongue pierced and my friend got their philtrum pierced. We were blown away by how kind and accommodating everyone was! The person manning the front was more than happy to answer our questions, show us our options for jewelry, and have some pleasant, light conversation! We were offered nice, cool complimentary water and some candy while we waited--neither of us had time to finish our bottles before we were asked to come back! I have been to a lot of body modification shops, and SADU had the quickest wait time of them all! Cindy was an amazing piercer. She was more than happy to answer all of our questions. Her hand is so steady and sure, we were both pierced in no time! Not to mention, the piercing room was cleaner than a hospital, but so much more inviting. Even her geode was free of dust! This is the place to go for your piercing needs. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by Aleta whom I haven't seen since my prior consult appointment. Riley went over my paperwork and forms with me and got me checked in. I got to observe these fine young ladies give outstanding customer service to everyone who walked in answer questions and going out of their way to make sure everyone was having an outstanding experience. Working in retail myself, I can assure you this type of service is hard to find these days...you can tell they really loved what they were doing and where they worked at. This was my second time seeing Cindy for piercings. She is the definition of a professional. From answering any questions you have to calming any anxiety, she has you. "Take a deep breath and exhale," she says. And that's it, you're pierced. Painlessly and quickly. I can't say enough great things about Sadu..I'll be back. But don't call them for the cheapest prices, you can go elsewhere if you want the cheapest prices. Call them if you want the best service and care. After getting the run around by so many different shops I came across Sadu and the reviews couldn't have been more helpful. This place is Defiantly the place to go for pretty much any piercing or body modification. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful, and professional. This is by far the best shop I have ever been in and their prices are reasonable, the overall atmosphere and the staff any inhabit ion and anxiousness were gone the moment I walked through the door and was greeted by the staff. Mattye had me in, set up and ready to get pierced in what seemed like no time at all. Dianna has to be one of the best in the business I couldn't imagine going anywhere else to get another piercing. Dianna had me in, pierced and ready to go in no time. While the length of time depends on the piercing or body mod, mine took no more than a couple of minute. I think explaining the aftercare took longer than actually getting pierced but Dianna was very thorough in explaining the after care while making it easy to understand I would recommend Sadu to anyone looking to get a piercing. read more

I got my tragus pierced at another shop and it ended up getting infected. When I went to have them look at the piercing, Cindy asked me what I had been doing to clean the area. I explained I was told to use Dial soap and when it got infected to perform salt soaks. She advised that neither were great options and H2Ocean or a saline pouch from CVS or Walgreens was much better. She also said the bar was too small. So she had to first force the earring through the front and remove and then put in a large bar to accomodate the swelling that had occurred due to my infection and then the bar being too small to take all the swelling. She advised that I change it out again in 3-4 weeks and to call them if I wasn't in town and she could recommend a shop in my area. After just 24 hours my ear felt so much better. I clean it 3 times a day now with H2Ocean and it gets better and better each day. So grateful to find such wonderful, kind and EXPERT piercing specialists.. If I am in the area again and want something pierced I am definitely going to Sadu. read more

I was misled by the reviews and a friend. As I arrived I wanted to run due to the deteriorating fixtures and sloppy appearance from the lady self described the best in state. I am a nurse and she needs to recertify herself and update her medical equipment. Cross contamination all over and no way I will refer anyone here. Cindy kept talking about how great her jewelry was only to upsell me 80 dollars extra for jewelry I can find on Google for 8 dollars. Total bill close to 140 dollars . No way. I was disgusted not only because their technique was to shame other products/people not in her store. I walked out sanitizing my hands 4 times as I arrived to painhouse or something. I went here with 3 of my friends to get our ears (me) and noses (them) pierced. From the time we walked in the staff was friendly and professional. I have had a lot of complications from piercings in the past so I was apprehensive about trying again. Diana (I believe was her name), our piercer, was knowledgable, professional, funny, and kind and answered all my questions fully. She really seemed to know her stuff and after talking to her I felt comfortable getting the piercing done. I also appreciated that she invited my friends into the room with me, which put me at ease. It's now been 3.5 weeks and my piercing is healing perfectly. This is my first piercing that has ever healed complication-free. I truly cannot say enough good things about this place. My ears were in serious trouble with poorly done piercings and inferior jewelry and I was so, so worried that I had permanently screwed up my ears. Thankfully, I stumbled upon Sadu and it's been a godsend. I've met almost all of the staff at this point and everyone has been so kind and professional. Glenn and Corinna each have worked with me through troubleshooting and time-consuming refittings to correct all the wrongs that had been done. More specifically, Corinna's advice has been priceless and I now consider her an ethereal sorceress of all piercings lol. I came to Sadu to get my transverse lobe earring switched out. I had gotten it pierced originally somewhere else, but I was in town and liked Sadu's jewelry options so I thought it would be fine to just get my jewelry switched out. I was wrong! the person who switched out my jewelry carelessly put a needle through my ear instead of the jewelry and re-pierced my lobe SIDEWAYS so now its lopsided and not healing correctly. Mind you, i had already had my piercing for over a YEAR and no further healing would have been needed if she had been careful and LOOKED where my original piercing was. I know it was my fault for not just going back to the professional who had carefully pierced me in the first place, but I figured a body mod shop would know how to install jewelry. I scheduled a consultation for an uncommon piercing and met with Cindy. She was absolutely amazing every step of the way, had previous knowledge on what I was looking to get done as well as did more research between the consultation and appointment. Very professional in every way, this also put me at ease knowing I had somebody that took real pride in their work. She also shared the same enthusiasm as me about the piercing I was getting, which made just a great experience overall. So glad I went here for my Monroe piercing. I originally called Paris Tattoo on a Saturday afternoon asking if they had time to do it that weekend. They called me back to tell me their piercer couldn't do it until Tuesday. I called Sadu and they said they could do it that day no problem (as long as I got there before half an hour before closing, when they take their last walk in). I got there at about 5:40, 5:45 and walked out with my piercing at 6:00 (there was only one person there before me getting a piercing). The girls were both very friendly and professional and made sure I had everything I needed and answered every question I had. Was at Sadu in October 2019 for piercing and was very impressed with all of the staff's knowledge and attention to safety before COVID. Cindy is an excellent piercer and able to deal with most any situation. Now with COVID, they are still impressing me. The staff did not answer the phone, however the website directs all appointments and questions online.They are answering questions through their website which I assumed would be a waste of time but I was stunned to get a proper response back in less than 10 minutes! Wow. This piercing salon knows what they are doing and have never appeared judgmental toward any customers. A little more jewelry inventory would be a nice addition, but their selection is good and varied. read more

This is the only place I will ever go to for my mods, I have 15 all performed here and I've had a wonderful experience with each of them. It's an amazing environment with a wide selection of beautiful jewelry, and you're guaranteed a professional experience. I came here to get my second hole pierced 9 years ago and have been coming here ever since. Cindy has always walked me through step by step so I'm comfortable and know exactly what to expect during the procedure. She's always respectful and knowledgable and will tell you exactly how to care for your new piercing. Each piece of jewelry and equipment will be sterilized before use, so you know it's safe. When it comes to body mods, whether it's tattoos or piercings, im very loyal and Cindy has definitely gotten 2 new loyal customers with me and my girlfriend Taylor. I always have a great vibe here and the shop is clean and full of plenty of variety. Cindy is an excellent piercer, very knowledgeable and takes her time to explain each step and the aftercare and has performed 4 piercings on me so far. Snake bites, gauges and my septum and all are healing well and we're virtually painless. They're perfect and I couldn't be happier. I got my cartilage pierced a couple Sunday's ago and they were really professional. Last year I had my cartilage on my other ear done at a different place and had way more problems than I do now. My ear stopped hurting a couple days after and only hurts when I lay on it. My first cartilage hurt for a very long time so this experience was much better. They have a wide variety of earrings to chose from and make sure that the actual piercing of your ear is where you want it and quick and painless. WOW! I was completely blown away by the customer service we received at this gem of a shop in Plaza Midwood. I took my daughter in because one of the earrings she had purchased nearly a year ago recently broke. The customer service rep (who looked phenomenal in a Halloween costume) was so friendly and helpful. She told us the earring came with a lifetime warrantee and offered to provide a replacement... which was terrific because my daughter was going to a Homecoming dance that night. Thank you!! When it comes to piercing Studios there's nowhere else to go, went in on a Sunday just to double-check on some jewelry that I wanted to purchase and despite being very busy I appreciated the knowledge and attention to detail that I experience whenever I frequent this business. This place is great! I walked in around 5 on a Friday with no appointment and had no wait. The front counter staff was friendly and helpful, and my piercer Cindy was super nice. It was my first piercing in a long time but I wasn't too nervous. Cindy definitely put me at ease by explaining everything. You can tell these people care a lot about their craft. Stopped by this shop after checking it out via Yelp. I and my husband am new to Charlotte, but it was easy to find. The ladies at the shop were very friendly and patient with me and all my "re-piercing" concerns. I would definitely recommend this shop to anyone o come across. No appointment necessary, plus they were very quick (had me in and out with all questions answered). I called and spoke with Hannah who told me to come in so we could go over what I wanted and where I wanted my tattoo. Zay just happened to be at the shop when I came in, and after a detailed conversation with him he seemed to be the perfect choice for my design. All of the photos I saw of Zay's work were clean and very detailed, so I locked him in as the artist to revitalize an old tattoo that needed resurrecting. Zay and I communicated back and forth until we had the perfect design (which myself and a friend created). He went to work etching my design and soon the transformation began. Zay is very knowledgeable and extremely talented, he did a great job with my tattoo. Ghost is easy to find and is accessible by stairs or elevator. The parking is limited but if you have an early appointment, you'll find parking just fine. The studio is exceptionally clean and the artists thoroughly sanitize throughout and in between sessions, I never once questioned their sanitation. Check-in is a breeze and very welcoming. Every artist that came by was very friendly and chill. I really loved how humble everyone was even with the insane talent they all had. So many tattoo shops can be prideful without the skill to show for it so this was a breath of fresh air. I am personally working with Joey on a sleeve and couldn't be happier with my choice on the artist. He is professional and extremely detailed. It also helps that we vibe making the tattoo sessions easy and fun. I did two back to back sessions that totaled 19 hours and I never felt like tapping out. I have about 8 sessions total and 2 of them are nearly healed. I am absolutely in love with what I have so far and can't wait for the next 4 sessions in August! (Will update photos when complete).

The first reason was my pain tolerance is LOW and after talking to all my friends who had them said it felt like a cheese grater scraping your skin for hours. lol eeek! The second reason was because I keloid if cut too deep so I was afraid of that too. My husband has a huge tattoo from Made to Last but I couldn't go to the same guy because that guy moved out of the city. My good friend said he had a guy who could do it with no problem and he was right! He was also at Made to Last so it was a win win for me. After I knew what a wanted, I booked with Matt Skinny and away I went down the path of getting my tattoo! I LOVE the old house they are in and so admire that they kept the old charm. It so doesn't feel like a tattoo place. Loved all the clientele that walked in and loved all the conversations that were happening around me. I felt comfortable and calm and it took my mind off of the cheese grating that was happening on my arm!!! Lolol! I'm VERY pleased with my results and I've already talked to him about the other tattoo that I want!!! It's only been four days and the tattoo looks as if it's been there for years. It's healing beautifully and I'm shocked. Wahoo!! I'm so proud of myself and happy I didn't chicken out.
