Whether you're eating at the restaurant or doing take out, the food is authentic, warm, and full of classic Thai flavors. It's a must visit if you're in the area, looking for good food. Boon (if I recall that's the owner's name) he is very pleasant and makes sure all his customers are enjoying the food and well taken care off. This restaurant truly transports me back to Thailand. This unassuming restaurant, situated in an unassuming location, boasts surprising and unexpected decor. There are many museum-worthy display articles and artifacts. That alone is worth a visit. The service is very friendly and welcoming. A funny thing happened to us with our meal. We found a shrunk plastic film in our portion, and were initially put off by it as it looked like a profilactic cooked into the dish. It turned out to be the top part of a noodle bag that accidentally ended up in our dish. The owner was very apologetic and compensated us for the mishap. As an avid Thai consumer, this place has quite a few issues- no wonder it was dead and it's right in the resort! It took forever for drinks. Seriously, 13 minutes for a Thai iced tea and Boon's tea? I think not. Then, the wait for our server to come back and take our orders... and additional 20 minutes for a simple order of satay and we were the only ones there! I would like to point out that after ordering four items all chicken that this was the only moderately successful cooking of chicken and the peanut sauce I will admit out of this disaster of a lunch was wonderful. My husband and I ordered mas sa mon curry (their spelling of what is traditionally known as massaman) and this was lovely minus the horribly overcooked chicken in it. Onto the pad Thai: bland, missing tamarind and of course overcooked chicken. No limes were served and no spice tray? I wasn't able to mention I like a bit of heat or add my own. Pretty disappointed with this. Lastly, the pad see ew. JFC, if I could rewind time and never go back to this place.... I would not have suggested it to my husband. These noodles were so overcooked they were mush and in pieces on the plate. They were metallic tasting and bland all at the same time. Oh, let's not forget that awful so overcooked and dry chicken! Yeah, that was there too. It was sickening. When our server, the little older woman finally checked on us ~18 minutes later, she had the audacity to argue with me that I had no idea what Thai food was supposed to taste like after I just told her I'm very aware of what MY FAVORITE THAI MEAL IS SUPPOSED TO TASTE. She kept arguing and when I piped up said I love how you act like I don't know Thai food, why is there no tamarind in the pad Thai she instantly stopped talking and took the dish away. I've lived on the west coast and am a native of the coast so it's not a coastal Thai difference some might question. If you're in the Poconos or anywhere near Shawnee, come here. It's amazing. The art is fascinating, the prices are amazing, the service is great an attentive. FYI: since the pandemic, it's literally the owner and his wife and a front of house lady (who is definitely a bit rough around the edges, but warms up eventually) . According to family they couldn't hire staff after the pandemic and the overwhelming majority of the business is take out. Which is why all parts of your meal will come in to go containers and such. You can dine in here, but don't expect nice plates etc. our party of four got a shrimp and noodle salad, curry puffs, chicken satay, two orders of Massamam curry, Panang curry,Tom Kha Kai soup and the Goong Suppa Rod curry. I'm really curious who thought this stuff lacked flavor, it's some of the best thai food we've had! The depth of flavor was lovely on everything. FYI on that last one, the pineapple is diced chunks. This place was convienently located across from Wydham Shawnee Resort, a few door from Bosco Pizza. Due to covid, they are only doing takeout. The lady took our order was super nice and helpful. I love hot sauce so she gave me 2 types (regular chili sauce and a Thai special hot sauce). We ordered 3 dishes and Thai ice teas. Typically the restaurant already add the cream/ half and half in the tea; but they actually have it on the side, which is great because I can add the amount of cream to my liking. If you never had Thai ice tea, you should try it! It's on the sweet side, but I like to add water to mine to make it less sweet. The curry dishes we ordered (yellow curry and green curry) were very tasty. The noodles were a bit greasy tho. All in all, great place for something different other than American food. read more

I don't really understand the hype. Ordered takeout from here and got pad Thai and pad see ew. The parking is easy in the lot but the food was pretty disappointing. When I lived in PA, I often ate at Boon's restaurant. Wonderful service, very delicious food, and pleasant ambience. I have been going to Saen Thai Cuisine for over 30 years and it is about a hour drive for us. In its heyday, there would be a line out the door, people waiting an hour for seating. With COVID and a lack of people willing to work the owners have altered their business model to a more takeout style of business. They will allow you to eat in the restaurant, but yes, it's not the typical restaurant dining experience. I wouldn't drive an hour if the food wasn't good. It was the day after snow storm Quinn. We had stayed in wood for the weekend having our time. Found this restaurant on the web. The road to this restaurant was offering a great view of Delaware water gap in the snow. I enjoyed driving the car more than food We reached here. It was almost empty. Ambiance has a story about Owner himself attended us. We ordered thai soup, house special fried rice, pad thai and one chicken entrée. Every preparation was full of oil, still tasty. Food was good. We went here yesterday we hadn't been since before Covid, walked in and was greeted by a lovely woman and was told they do not serve on regular plates only paper plates like picnic style. We should have walked out but wanted to make the best of it. The place looked a little dreary hardly any customers but it was little before 5 pm. We sat & ordered 3 dishes. Dumplings (4 ) to start, were good we needed a little more spice, Tamarind shrimp were very good, again we needed a little spice also a beef dish #38 we were served in take out containers. The dish looked very appealing but the beef was too hard. I wish the beef was tender then we would have given a 5 star rating. No salt, pepper or hot sauce on the table. This restaurant was always booming with customers since it is small and quaint & very good food. The owners are wonderful people. Boon, please spruce up the place. I have been coming to this family owned restaurant for decades and if anything the food has gotten more sophisticated and complex--or maybe I have more to compare it to including Thai restaurants in Thailand. Ingredients are always fresh. They still mostly do takeout, since the pandemic, but they welcome you to sit and eat in and will offer excellent table service if it's not busy. The chef/owner often comes out of the kitchen to make rounds, sometimes bringing out something new or special for us to try. My family's favorite in the Poconos for a generation. read more

In a region sparsely blessed with amazing restaurants this small gem was recommended by family. We arrived early on a chilly evening only to learn the doors don't open until 5:30pm. This turned out to be a cold but happy blessing because the small floor space was filled 5 minutes after opening. Openly endorsed by many waiting in line. We chose a shrimp appetizer that was delicious. Since I live in California I am accustomed to finding great restaurants all the time but here its rare. I could tell immediately this would be a real treasure. The Tom Kha was much smoother than I usually experience and almost no sweet and bitter flavor. Despite the variation it was enjoyable. An essential staple of any great Thai, the Thai Tea was a must. Initially it was brought out missing the milk. It appears the owners listened to locals and put the half and half on the side for lactose cursed individuals like myself. I still added he milk, after all don't we all suffer a little for the things we love. It was delicious. The main entrees looked great. The house fried rice was delicious though the portion was rather small. The panang curry was not the best I have had but in a small town within Pennsylvania it's was outstanding. The #45 Fish was nicely presented but the menu didnt clarify it was catfish and the flavor was much fishier then epected that aside it was a pleasant surprise. Overall i would have to say given the locale this is a great place to enjoy authentic Thai. Service was attentive though quite busy. This is my first review on Yelp. Unfortunately, I felt compelled to write this review because of our shockingly poor experience. We were on vacation staying at the Wyndham in Shawnee PA. Excited to see a Thai restaurant less than one mile from our cabin, we ordered take-out to enjoy a meal outside at the resort in the beautiful weather. When we got back to the resort, my husband took a bite of the Shrimp Pad Thai and pulled the ring of a latex glove from his mouth! Having never experienced this, we assumed it was an accident, but were too disgusted to continue eating our meals. Wanting to alert the staff and receive a refund for the meal, we returned to the restaurant with the Pad Thai. The lady at the front desk was very rude and accused us of putting the glove into the food ourselves. She threatened to call the police and told us to leave. Finally, they said that they could either give us the $15 back for the Pad Thai or we could return to the resort and bring back the rest of the food. We returned with the food and the owner finally came out and refunded us the money for the food. The owner did seem apologetic. We have never experienced such disrespect as a customer. We were first disrespected by the unsanitary and dangerous mistake of serving a latex glove remnant in our food. We were also disrespected by suffering hostility from the staff to the point of where we as customers were treated like criminals. I have never been treated this poorly by any restaurant or establishment and I hope this is the last 1 star review I ever need to give any business. The reason I am writing this review is because I hope the restaurant will address customer service with their front counter staff and double check their orders before serving to customers. I really do not want someone else to go through this as it is also a serious choking hazard and I have unfortunately had a family member pass away from choking so I do not take this lightly. read more

There are several great things about my meal this eve, but first let me start with the super friendly, energetic person who answered the phone! Your positive vibes gave me energy and made me feel happy. The Thai ice tea is really good I like that you just give a few creamers if you want it but I drank it plain and it was sooo good. Where other places mix the cream in, I like that it's plain. The Tom kha soup was a little weak tasting. The yellow chicken curry is good, just enough spice, I like that you asked the customer if they want hot sauce so they can add it if they want to but mine is perfectly spiced. I like the peanut sauce. What else can I say everything taste delicious I would definitely come back to you again. I've had a lot of Thai food at other restaurants and sometimes it can be a hit or miss but this was very good and I'm glad that I chose your restaurant tonight! read more

10 of us ate here and luckily they accommodated seating for us. I think the whole dining room can seat about 30. The decor had pretty hand carved wood and paintings. The servers wore traditional Thai garb. I thought that was cool. I don't see that much often anymore. The restaurant is located in the same strip mall as the post office. For appetizers our group ordered the calamari, chicken curry puff, chicken satay (skewers), buffalo wings and a wonton soup. I felt that the chicken for the satay had very large pieces of chicken compared to other places I have ordered it. The curry puff was delicious. Filled with chicken and potatoes; they're similar to samosas. I didn't get to try the buffalo wings because they didn't quite make it to the other end of the table! The calamari was average. The wonton soup was very good. The broth was tasty and had some veggies in it too. I ordered the 26.* Mus Sa Mon - Southern beef curry in coconut milk with onions, potatoes and peanuts $10.95 It was a very generous potion. I didn't get to finish it. It didn't help that they gave us an endless supply of white rice. I was planning on saving it for a midnight snack but my take out box got mixed with someone else from my table who had ordered the drunken noodles. That was pretty good by the way but mine was OH SO MUCH BETTER. I was so bummed!! Anyways, we hit up this joint at peak dinner time. A few people waited for tables to free up. There were also a lot of pick up orders. There were only 2 servers and service was a bit slow. But it is NOT fast food. It's home cooking! A hidden gem...Saen Thai Cuisine serves authentic top notch flavor. The traditional wood sculptures and art work created a cozy and tranquil ambiance. We started out with the chicken satay. Savory chicken strips accompanied with a lightly sweetened peanut sauce. The chicken was paired with a refreshing pickled cucumber salad which enhanced the flavors. The drunken noodles were nothing short of amazing. The noodles, chicken, shrimp and vegetables created the perfect mix of flavors and textures. Boon brought out the best hot pepper to put on top! The Pad Thai was a perfect combination of salty, sweet, sour and spicy. The dish was served with chicken, succulent shrimp and topped with the crunch of chopped peanuts and crushed hot spices. Boon's personal suggestion to mix the noodles with the spices and a squirt of lemon intensified the flavors. My girlfriend and I arrived at 525 and were among the first few people to enter when they opened at 530. We were seated and orders our soups and meals within 10 minutes of being here. Our soup came out 20 minutes after ordering and an hour after arriving the soup is all we had received. The other customers that arrived at the same time as us had already received their meals, paid, and left before we had received our entrees. The soup was ok at best. 1 hour and 15 minutes after arriving we decided to pay and leave without getting our entrees (I think the waitress forgot to put our meals into the kitchen).
