We had a kitchen all to ourselves and the teacher's undivided attention at 5pm on a weeknight. . We started off by whisking an egg into a cup of flour. After much kneading, we each had our homemade pasta dough balls which we let rest. Then, we got started on the pasta sauce. We made both a white and red sauce. In between, we had sips of the rose we brought because they're BYOB! Once we got the sauce going, we rolled out our pasta and cut them into strips of fettuccine using a couple of pasta makers. Finally, we chopped up some fresh garlic for garlic bread. I've forgotten her name, but the teacher was very friendly and knowledgeable. She even taught us a cool trick to turn parmesan rinds into delicate crisps. We wrapped up the session by digging into our pasta dishes and snapping some photos to capture the moment! I can't wait to make my own pasta at home.

First off, I want to high five the amazing team who worked so well and patiently with the kids as they took turns and worked together to make the very fun recipes in store for the class. Secondly, I was so impressed with how organized it was and how there was an age-appropriate job for each of the kids who attended. Parent were able to help, but most of us were taking pictures of our kids cooking because how often do we see that?? The space was so clean and well put together, and the energy was just as fun as the process. We cannot wait to go back for another cooking class with friends!

Below is a recommendation letter I wrote for the organization for a fund raising application that sums up why the residents of McKinney Texas with young children who love art should check out YOUNG AT ART CHILDREN'S CREATIVE CENTER (www.youngatartmckinney.org). Young at Art provides a very nurturing environment for artisitc experimentation and development. They provide access to various mediums and techniques that go beyond the simple art projects typically found in a children's art class. The staff at the center are very encouraging and caring and help children experiment beyond standard techniques and styles. Additionally, their philosophy and teaching practices encourage the children to participate in their commnity by hosting events that allow the children to participate in the local OB Christmas Parade and in art projets that become part of the community such as window murals and the mural at the OB Gas Station. The art school is a very special place for the students where they can feel at home and accepted, but get to make messes and create masterpieces. I believe that all children benefit from exposure to creating and experiencing art. With the reduction of art classes in public schools, outside community art schools provide an opportunity for children to experience the creativity and joy of art. Young at Art provides this opportunity to the local children of Ocean Beach and Point Loma. They offer scholarships for students who are unable to afford the cost of classes and bring together groups of children who might not otherwise interact. The staff at the school fosters caring and consideration of each child toward their classmates and encourages collaboration amoung the students. If you have a young child who would benefit from attending an art class or camp you should call and talk to Miss Kim the director! I'm sure you will be glad you did.

The older kids program looks great and I especially like the bell located in the middle of the gym that the gymnast gets to ring when they master a skill for the first time. Great motivation! I am particularly impressed with the Tiny Tots classes. That program is outstanding! I have a very shy and timid little girl that easily becomes clingy, but somehow Coach Ethan got her to join the class. She happily joins his classes, but I was interested to see what would happen on that one day he was not there. Other coaches quickly stepped up with encouragement and she joined her class. After the initial warmup to music the class divides into two groups and each goes to a different station or the trampolines before switching. Each station just looks like fun activities to the kids, but each 'fun' activity is designed to teach a very specific skill. Each 'fun' activity is first demonstrated by the coach, but big picture cues beside each piece of equipment also instructs. When the coach observes a child skipping a skill or not completing it correctly, they will assist or give extra instruction. I notice that the assistance is as minimal as needed since the goal is for them to achieve independence. The station's setup changes each week. After a class, the coaches often chat with a parent about a skill that was mastered or improved by their child. I have seen improvement in core strength, balance, stretching and confidence, to name a few.

5 stars from a very picky mom! :)…read more As a parent you worry about your child's development and hope to find someone that will care about their needs at the same level as you. We have found our place! Here's what I would want to know about this school from another parent: With our schedule being some what unpredictable I pick my son up at different times of the day often. Every time I have picked him up, morning or afternoon, I always see children being engaged at every age group. I think there is massive amounts of accountability with cameras in each room. My son has grown to know so many of the staff members and they all know him. It's a parade of 'good mornings' and 'see you tomorrows' every time! I have found that daycares that primarily stay in one room all day have kids (and teachers) that go a little stir -crazy! I would too. Once you see the different class rooms you'll see why these little ones stay busy! My son adores his teacher. She has figured out how to get my 4 year old to try new foods including vegetables! She's a celeb in our home. Since enrolling my son he has learned SO MUCH! I'll explain why that brings so much peace to me... Several months ago our then, 3 year old son was in speech therapy. We looked high and low for a childcare center that could help with the social aspect of speech. We enrolled him in a place near 'Children's Learning Adventure'. It was a brand new place that seemed like a good fit. The first morning we brought our son we were met with a very uninterested 'teacher'. She asked me if I had any questions. When I asked her what they would be working on today, she replied "Oh I don't know"! My husband and I felt so uncomfortable leaving him there. I decided that I would pop in a little earlier than planned to check on things. When I got there the kids were all aimlessly, dragging their blankets around, wandering around the classroom with no instruction or activity. The teacher was extremely disengaged. I unenrolled him the next day! I spent a week researching again for another school. That's when I came across 'Children's Learning Adventure'. I had always noticed the beautiful building when driving past, but figured they were too state-of -the- art for our budget!! I decided to give them a call for pricing and was shocked to find out that we were paying the same at the other place . I went in for a visit and was VERY IMPRESSED with the program. But that was just the beginning. My son struggled transitioning to another, new school and he cried for 2 weeks every time we dropped him off. The teachers were so accommodating and never once complained. If anything they encouraged us that he was warming up slowly. I would even get phone calls from the staff mid day to let me know he was doing much better! Since then he has SOARED!! His speech therapist was so impressed with his progress and could tell that he was in a great atmosphere. So much so that he was discharged from speech therapy for exceeding his goals early! This place has been a Godsend. The staff is still just a friendly as the first day. What I really like the most about this style of teaching is that the kids are not stuck in one room all day with one teacher. The name is really fitting as my child feels like he's on a learning adventure every day, exploring all of the amazing classes they have, like Spanish and cooking! Most of all my mother, a teacher of 30 years, gave her stamp of approval! Needless to say our entire family is very glad to have found 'Children's Learning Adventure'!
