It was our first time here; I had heard the line to order can be pretty long, so I was pleased we were able to order in under 5 min. I just went with a mayport shrimp basket with hush puppies, fries, and coleslaw. My hubby got the gator tail. We picked a table outside to take in the scenic view of the boats and marine life. Food came out in around 10 min; awesome! I really enjoyed all of it; shrimp were crispy and flavorful, coleslaw was delicious, fries were frozen, but still tasted good. When we first tried Safe Harbor seven years ago it was OUTSTANDING! We waited in line almost three hours to get in. But it was worth it. We just had a late lunch early dinner on Saturday, October 14th. We arrived at 3:45 pm and found parking right in front of the restaurant. We walked in without waiting in line. We ordered a dozen raw oysters: they were small and tasteless! We ordered two clam chowders, but only one arrived with the explanation that they ran out and brought a gumbo soup. The clam chowder was watered down and bland. The gumbo was perfect! We shared a 3-way basket: Fried Crab cakes: we're dry and tasteless. Grilled Red Snapper: cooked to perfection. Grilled Mayport Shrimp: small but tasty. I tried to like safe harbor but unfortunately this time it was not worth the 90 minute drive. read more

You're able to choose indoor or outdoor seating overlooking the water. They have a few dessert options. We chose the deep fried cheesecake which was delicious. The oysters were probably some of the best my husbands had in a while. He also ordered the captains pick 2 with blackened scallops, fried shrimp and seasoned fries (not pictured). All delicious! Whenever my husband and I want seafood, this is THE place to go. We drive all the way from Orange park to savor in the deliciousness. The seared tuna salad is so good and fills you up even though it is a salad and their clam chowder. TO DIE FOR. it tastes so fresh. It is a family friendly atmosphere. A local favorite & must visit in Jacksonville! They've recently extended the seafood market across the street so that the lines are a bit shorter, but expect to wait a while for seating on busy days. I highly recommend getting the captain seafood platter as you can pick multiple fresh items. I'm a big fan of any of the fried fish and a lovely side salad. They will often have a smoked fish and dip. That is a great start to the meal while you wait on your entrées. Crabcakes I've heard our fantastic as well. What's cool about this restaurant is a lot of the employees are local young men who are offered the opportunity for self development. Food arrives quickly and is delicious with homemade cocktail and tartar sauce. There is indoor and outdoor seating, but if you sit outside, make sure to bring a jacket on cold or windy days. There is a restroom, but it may be a challenge for people who are handicap to get to the outdoor seating. Parking is limited and they require you to park in the dirt or on the side of the road. read more

A flour tortilla filled with the bang-bang type shrimp found at most seafood places, but this one's better because the shrimp were swimming around, minding their own business mere hours before ending up stuffed into a tortilla. It is both a restaurant on one side of the road, and the market on the other side of the road, where they bring in fresh shrimp and fish from the Mayport area. There's plenty of parking by the market. We visited for lunch after a walk at Hanna Park. We were able to sit outside at the picnic tables on the patio with our dog, and they had booster seats for our son. You do have to go indoors to order and get a number for your table. They have daily specials, as well as seasonal fish and seafood. For a Thursday afternoon, it got crowded quickly for lunch. My husband and I both ordered the Mayport shrimp platters, with fries, coleslaw, cocktail sauce, and about 12 plump shrimp. For drinks we ordered water. All together it was around $34, with an option to tip. We didn't have to wait long for our food to come out, and it was hot to the touch. We shared with our son, who loved the crinkle fries. Let me start by saying - I know during the last couple years- there are staffing issues, inflation and Covid occurred. My other review was 5 stars - need to update to reflect the last couple months. I previously stated long line - worth the wait - now not so much. However the costs of a lunch for two I compared has gone from what we normally order from $50 to $80. The quality seems less, dry fish - and smaller portions. We usually enjoy our food here tremendously, but I think the margins have caught up. Second time we encountered this in a row. Hope we get back to better quality and portions for cost especially since we are paying 38% more. Staff have always been great no issues there - we see a lot of turn over though. Let us know when you think thinks have stabilized to try again - this was a weekly / monthly visit sometimes - now I am thinking rarer visit for gumbo. read more

Still one of the best and most reasonably priced seafood restaurants in North Florida. Don't believe me, ask any of the people standing in line when you go, because there is always a line. Don't worry, the line moves quickly. There is a lot to get, so go numerous times and try the menu because it is all well done. There is parking up front, but it fills up quickly, but there is plenty of room off to the side (dirt lot) or across the street at the seafood market (paved lot). While I am talking about it, stop by the seafood market after lunch to get the freshest seafood this side of the ocean. Crab, lobster, Basa, Grouper, Shrimp (heads on, heads off, shelled, unshelled), Flounder and a host of other things like sauces, desserts, spice mixes and bags of frozen fish. But what about the food? Shrimp Nachos - good, nachos with everything but the meat, replaced with shrimp. Good, but I think there are better choices. Harbor Fries - OMG, this is the bomb. Fries top with crab and spices. I challenge you not to eat every scrap in the basket. Shrimp Po Bo - very big sandwich, so it is good but awkward to eat. So much so that awkwardness overcomes to flavor. Banging Shrimp Tacos - really solid choice. Datil peppers add just the right amount of spice. Fish Tacos - build your own, choose your fish and get it fried, grilled or blackened. My choice is always blackened. Basa Basket - my go to, but I switch out twice baked potatoes for the fries. I also get it lightly blackened. Sides - really all of it is good from the cucumber sales to the fried okra to my choice of twice baked potatoes. So of course we had to come try it out and let me tell you.. the staff and the atmosphere is awesome. We were told it's worth the wait. It was. I had grilled Mayport shrimp, and the shrimp and the hush puppies were the best I ever had. My friends ordered various items, and were very impressed with the great quality seafood. I think next time we'll sit inside, it was uncomfortable sitting on the patio in the heat, and the seagulls were a bit aggressive. Taking food off of plates people had left.
