I own a semi truck tractor. It is one of the smaller, lesser-known brands in North America. Road hazards abound and my left windshield took a hit from a bouncing stone, leaving a sizable star shaped crack at the left edge, a little bigger than a ping-pong ball. At first, if you didn't know where to look, you wouldn't know it was there. It took a couple of months, but eventually one of the cracks started creeping out into my field of vision I scheduled an appointment for a replacement windshield. The earliest I could get in was a Saturday. I arrived on Saturday morning and parked in the street. Figuring it wouldn't take long, I opted to spend my down time in the waiting area. It wasn't long before the window tech informed me that they had ordered the wrong glass and I would have to reschedule my appointment. Upon arrival for my 2nd appointment, I left the truck and walked down the street to a Mom -n- Pop restaurant for breakfast. A little while later, I returned and the new windshield was in place. Unfortunately, they didn't have the correct rubber trim to finish the job. At that point, I couldn't wait and needed to put the truck back on the road. They knocked a few bucks off the final bill to compensate for the missing trim. It was a little disappointing that upon my 2nd visit, the truck wasn't serviced completely. I ended up having another Safelite location finish the job at no cost when my truck was at the dealership for repairs. read more

We got our windshield replaced here on a Friday. I drove it home and parked it in the driveway, the windshield was fine. Went to go to work on Monday, (the car sat in the driveway not moving) and there was a crack coming from the top corner of the windshield. I brought it back to get it fixed again because they supposedly have a six month guarante. they told me it wasn't covered under that because it was an impact crack. I told them it couldn't be an impact crack, unless rocks are falling from the sky, they said it must've happened when I drove the car home. The six month guarantee is a lie! they will blame you. do not bring your car here! read more

My experience here was okay, I ended up with chip in my windshield and this is why I was here, it was smaller than a dollar bill like they asked. When I first walked in there was no power which was fine but the lady at the front desk was rude about everything so strike 1. Her attitude was terrible she never greeted me. I thought that the chip would be completely gone because of the commercials, but no it's still there. I was told they just put some stuff on there to stop the chip from spreading. I had Safelite come out to fix a pea-shaped chip on my windshield, and they left me with a 12-inch crack. They do not stand by their work. They then want me to pay for a new windshield. I will not be using Satellite, nor will I be recommending Safelite to others in the future. I will be having a better deserving company to fix my windshield moving forward. read more

So, the good thing was that my windshield got replaced and it looks great! The less great stuff involved the logistics of making it happen. AAA told me that I would have an appointment set up and a specific time and that I would drop off the car and expect to have it done in a couple of hours. When I arrived, and later confirmed by the person who worked there, it turned out that this was set up as a drop off appointment during which I just leave the car there for 8 hours or something. I had not planned on this so I was basically stuck down in suburban sprawl hell with no easy way to get home. Of course, the crew at Safelite was basically like, drug, not my problem. When I was halfway home on the bus, I got a call from their tech saying that I had to come back because they needed me to take the roof rack off the car, without which they wouldn't be able to install a new windshield. I had not been informed about this and it still doesn't really make sense to me because of how the trim strips attach, but I wasn't going to just waste an hour driving back home, so I took off the roof rack there. A tech graciously reminded me that if I left the rack in the alley, they couldn't be liable if someone stole it. Thanks, boss! Super helpful. Anyway, I feel like this was all just a whole thing in which they dropped the ball and then wanted to blame me for not reading the fine print, but I had been explicitly told that this was an appointment, so I don't understand why it worked out this way. My big thing is that this isn't some too bit operation, we pay exorbitant prices for car repair and insurance, and in this case, neither AAA nor Safelite seems to want to take any responsibility for screwing up the communication We pay hundreds of dollars a month for a single vehicle because our insurance rates are outrageous, and the best I can get is spending an entire day in scenic Southgate, Michigan. read more

Avoid all cost by giving this company any business. I had a very small rock chip on my windshield from the day before. The following day I had scheduled Safelite to come and fill in the rock chip so it wouldn't crack. Biggest mistake I did was having them fix it. The failed technician cracked my windshield and now the whole windshield needs to be replaced. The woman at the front desk was super helpful and checked if my insurance would allow a replacement by them. They did, so I came back a week later. Joseph did my window, it turned out awesome. I paid for a small chip to be repaired on January 7 2021 and the chip repair was a complete fail because the chip is now spreading across my windshield. I would love to be able to give an accurate review, but I've been there TWICE now (3 times if you include the first appointment at my residence that was postponed due to weather), and each time, the windshield was damaged. Scheduled a 3rd appointment now. Here's to hoping the guys that load and unload the glass and the drivers are more careful. Update: 01/29/2022 So....I take in my truck, per the schedule, to have my windshield replaced 3 Saturday's ago. I get a call after about an hour, that the windshield has a scratch on it. (well, I guess I'm going to end up buying a new defective windshield at the price of a non-defective new windshield...awesome....yes that's sarcasm for those a little slower). I tell them, to go ahead and use it instead of waiting a week. An hour later I receive another phone call. Now the windshield has a damaged mirror bracket. So I have to wait another week for the following Saturday to have the windshield fixed. The following Saturday, nope....another broken windshield was delivered to the Southgate store. So I have to wait ANOTHER week for ANOTHER Saturday appointment, because at this time, I'm not taking any time off work in the "hopes" that an undamaged windshield will arrive. I ask them to call me on the following Saturday morning before my appointment if the windshield is NOT damaged. No call. So I take my truck back over there. (this is now the 3rd week that I have been trying to get this corrected). I leave the truck there. 30 minutes later, I receive that dreaded phone call. The bracket for the mirror is damaged. "We are sorry Mr. Oestrike, but when the technicians checked the windshield, they were checking for 'scratches or cracks' and didn't notice the mirror bracket." So I pick up my truck.....AGAIN!!!!!! So what does it take to have an UNDAMAGED WINDSHIELD shipped to the local store? Once is an accident....twice is a coincidence.....THREE TIMES IS A PATTERN!!!! Do you need to teach the drivers how to drive so that the windshields are not damaged?!?! Do you need to teach the people that load the products, how to do it in a way that the windshields are not damaged!?!? Do you need to teach the people that unpack the products to NOT DAMAGE THE PRODUCTS!?!?!?! WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET AN UNDAMAGED WINDSHIELD?!?!?! This was my 4th appointment...being my 3rd appointment at the store. The first was supposed to be at my house, but the weather was too cold. So again....tell me....WHAT DOES IT TAKE!?!?!?! Was this the glass and mirror that they repaired a week prior....NO.....it was different windshield. Why didn't they use the windshield that they repaired, like they said they would.....they weren't told to do so. So we have not only a break down in materials, but now we have a breakdown in supervision. But this means that now 4 our of 4 windshields were defective. So now they are going to try an OEM windshield, which means I have to wait another 2 weeks, because I refuse to go in during a work day, since they have shown their incompetence over and over again. This happened last summer. How I forgot to finish the review, I don't know. But lets carry on... It wasn't a good week for me. Tuesday driving home from work, my rear view mirror fell off and hit me in the head on the Southfield Freeway! Of course, its dangling by the remote start wires and I have to hold the thing up from Dearborn to Brownstown....not fun. My arm ached. I couldnt see behind me. My head hurt. And my day at work sucked in general. Ugh. I got home and the Mr. taped up my mirror so it could be at least somewhat useful until I could get it fixed on Friday. Tape, tape, and more tape. Plus a good bit of green garden tie. Hideous, but workable. Friday afternoon, I drove over to Safelite to see how to get this issue fixed. Mind you, I didn't have an appointment, I was merely hoping to get an estimate and get an appointment for repair. NOPE. The receptionist (or whatever they are called in the auto glass world) called over a windshield guru to take a look. Thankfully this man had a great sense of humor, being he had to look at and take apart this tape job. But he did, and got my mirror back up and perfectly set with whatever magic goo windshield people use to fix these things. Maybe 30 minutes or less for the entire process. The best part? No charge. Zero. Fixed it with a smile and sent me on my way. I was thrilled!! Naturally, I did make an appointment with Safelite to have a small but aggravating windshield chip repaired later that month. Well, my windshield had about 2 inches of ice on it and it decided to bust out a crack side to side on a cold Sunday morning. If your windshield has two inches of ice on it, don't turn your defrost on the highest settings. Physics. So, I needed to get it fixed. I see Safelite commercials on the boobtube nonstop, so I decided to check out their website. Not that commercials sway me, because I would never get a MyPillow, but it was the first website I checked out. Anyway, I typed in the vehicle info, insurance info, scheduled the appt and it was all done within 10 minutes. The website gave the deductible price on the spot and I didn't even have to contact insurance. Dropped off the whip, and me and my mother watched the Tiger's opening day game and ate a hotdog at her senior apartment down the street. Before I knew it, everything was complete. The woman upfront is the only one that gets a star from me We took the our Cadillac Allante there to get a new rag top. When we dropped it off the guy said he could have it done in just a couple days because the new Top was already there. But a couple days turned into two weeks, we went to pick it up and somehow he messed up the electric motor to latch the top down.Before it was dropped off , I a 5'3" woman could do it all by myself! The boot that you fold the top down into ,won't open. He never bothered calling to tell anyone that he was having a problem with it. He left it on the woman working the front desk to deal with his mess! All this was in working order when it was dropped off and all it needed was the new cloth portion. I will let the world know this guy is awful and I would not take my 10 speed to him because he would probably mess up the seat while installing it ,and then make excuses while blaming someone else.If he would have called for help this could have been avoided. Communication goes a long way and can avoid problems when you don't know how something works. My husband had to drive it home real slow while holding the back window in place because of all the stuff this guy did! Thank god he's tall enough to reach back there because I would've never got it home. read more

Made and appointment for inhome service. waited a week, got a call the night before that they ordered the wrong windshield. Had to wait another week, then finally the day came but they could not do it at home since it was going to rain. We ended up taking the vehicle in store. They took all day. we picked up the vehicle that night from the store, it was raining at the time, the car had water pouring into the dashboard and all over the cup holders(filling them up). There's damage to the top roof when the water was entering and they damaged the roof fabric by tearing it. We called again and they came out to my place of business, they put wrap on the wind shield because they could not fix or replace it once again. have to wait another week and another appointment. They were quick to collect payment but have no way of ensuring the repairs are 100% completed and water sealed. This is a brand new truck that is 8 months old. Now we have to file a claim for the damage and figure out what electrical damage is done from all the water entering the truck. read more

Bought a Safelite windshield cash for my sons car last fall... During the winter it cracked from the bottom of the wheel chilled up to the mirror and all the way to the right... Safelite says that they keep the receipt on file... They could not find it by Vin number name or telephone number... And I could not find mine because my husband passed away and I didn'tnow where it was... So I paid for yet another windshield and yes I used safelight. The installer of the second windshield told me that the trim was too tight on the bottom and that's what caused her to crack from the original installer of the first windshield... I got a phone call back they generously gave me $50 off the payment of the second windshield... So it cost me about $700 with $50 off to get a windshield I should not of had to pay for the second time. The second installer did do a great job and was very courteous... My frustration is that I had to pay for a second windshield because the first installer screwed it up ...the first windshield broke Through NO fault of ours . ..But because of the way it was installed. I still believe I should not of had to pay for the second windshield at all read more

I had chips replaced before and had great service but when I had to have my windshield completely replace is when the nightmare began. I had it replace during the winter and then right after the inside of the window would get a sheet of ice on it due to a hole. I had taken it to the dealer and they verified it was the window so I took it back in and it got repaired. The man who replace the window the first time fixed it and was very rude and acted offended that we were questioning his work. A month later the rubber around the window on the outside came up enough that if I wanted to I could put my hand through it. I called in again. The people at the desk where very nice and apologetic but the same man who fix it the first time I was told was there best and he repaired it again. He was again rude and to me and my father who came with me. Then I was driving and water started coming into my car from another hole and there is damage to my fabric on my ceiling of my car now. The same man again replace the whole windshield. The caulking on the inside was done poorly and it looked like a rushed job. My father who worked close enough to take it there and pick it up told him not to bother me at work and to call him directly and provided a number. He disregarded that request and called me at work and said "Tell you Daddy your car is ready." I was extremely offended. It was extremely inconvenient to have to come in 3 times because a rock hit my windshield on the highway on the way to work . I went here since it was near my house and my insurance agent told me to go. I will never return unless something goes wrong again and I will make them fix it which I expect something will go wrong again. I was lucky all those times that I have family that could lend me a vehicle so I could drive to work and they could take it in for me. My job is not flexible enough to be able to get the car in that many time. Go there for chips only! read more

Was not a smooth process. Received a call earlier in morning that they could not come out because insurance did not approve claim. I am the insurance so I knew that I had the coverage. Installer to my wife to call and find out whats going on and he couldn't do it today. After several back and forth phone calls between store and my carrier then claims office they said he would be back out. The actual install took awhile more then i would have guessed. I received email saying my car was vacuumed as part of there service. It was not. That was it for me will not being recommending this company to my clients. read more

I had a new windshield placed onto my 2002 trailblazer in March. Not only did they break the first one they put in my wife had to return a week later to have the broken one they put in replaced. Fast forward 6 month my wife started the car with the air conditioning on and "crack" right in the middle of the windshield (note car was parked). Of course the store says it was an impact that caused the crack and the warranty was not covered. This must be the cheapest garbage glass ever made. Old windshield last 12+ years and safelite glass lasted 6 months. I'm now looking for a new company. I will never use safelite again. read more
