Although they were established in 1940, Safety Cycle is far from they heyday nor even from their tail end of what they were from the 1990s. The new owners have certainly made changes that seem to be going downhill and not in that good way when on a nice bicycle cruise. Speaking from a previous customer's stand point I certainly have seen their decline. From being a great official Schwinn dealership, the changing landscape of cycling has really taken a toll on small bicycle dealerships and shops. Safety Cycle use to have a great array of inventory from entry models to top end race bicycles. Today, the showroom is cluttered with no organization, racks are filled with no understandable order, customer service that consist of a single person, and cycling accessories littered throughout the store with the exception of what is behind the sales counter. Walking in on prime Saturday afternoon I found two service techs busy working on bicycles, a sales clerk that was inundated and had no time to address any customers walking in, and three persons that I knew were management & friends that I witnessed shooting the breeze with each other ignoring all who walked in to either browse or shop. The most annoying aspect of my visit was scavenging through the tires section that was nestled in a back corner with only a goat path to fit through. No one approached me to help in my 20 minutes of sorting through their mess of tires. Any how, I have fond memories of this neighborhood bicycle shop and I still treasure the bicycles I have purchased here along with the great service they once delivered. I hope management sees this review/account and turn things around before things get any worse than they have already become. read more

I have to write this review right now while I'm still in the parking lot. I've been to safety cycle 3 times now which isn't the most convenient for me because I live in Irvine but one of my group ride buddies had recommended this place as being the nicest guys and best shop in la. I'm going to say, this is the best LBS I've ever been apart of. I say that I'm a part of it bc of how often you'll end up frequenting your local bike shop once you get into cycling. Sometimes their repair times are so different and customer service is hit or miss because theirs no actual organized queue but when you finally get serviced, especially from the owner (I think his name is Jun), it really will strike you why so many people love this shop. They do really great work and are incredibly honest. Seriously love safety cycle and it's my go to, I don't even consider any other shops and that's coming from someone who makes an hour and a half drive to get here and back and then there and back again when I need to pick up whichever bike I have in there. read more

STAY AWAY - POOR QUALITY WORK - POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE - TOTAL RIP-OFF Brought my electric scooter in for a tube replacement. They did not have the tube for replacement and I provided the tube that came with the scooter from Hiboy. 3 hrs later, pick up and i notice its running sluggish. Next day, tire is flat and could barely pump air as the valve was not installed correctly. Called and was told to bring back in to where I was told that I would have to pay for another tube and the work again ($35 + tube). All in all, this place is horrible. If you need anything bike or electric scooter related stay away from this place. Overpriced poor quality work. 35 bucks to poorly replace one tire is a total rip-off. We are big fans of the Aventon brand and even bigger fans of Safety Cycle. My wife and I each have a Pace 500 and have had minor service done at the shop. Song and the rest of the staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable about their craft. We shopped at several bike shops before settling on Safety Cycle. When I broke my motor after 8000 miles Song priced out a replacement. The cost was reasonable but the Black Friday deals from Aventon were impossible to pass up. Safety Cycle matched the offer and we drove off with a new Pace 500 that was in stock at the store. We even got a free spare battery which arrived in the mail within four days. It is a great bike and we are forever customers of Safety Cycle! read more

Don't use Safety Cycle for repairs or maintenance. They damaged my wheel during a routine tire replacement, I called them out on it immediately when I picked it up and refused to fix their mistakes. They're very defensive and hard to work with. Now I'm 120 dollars poorer and my bicycle is rattling and unsafe to ride. Staff was condescending and rude on both days. Erick is a wonderful person who cares a lot about his customers and their experience. The shop has a wonderful selection of bikes and parts to choose from. Whether you're new or born to ride on wheels, this shop is a one-stop place for full-on service. Employees service and possess outstanding knowledge, making you feel confident about your shopping experience. Erick seems to be doing something right; I visited this place three times within the last year and have been satisfied of his courteous attitude. For the other employees, I can't say the same thing. It is important to treat customers great care and importance at the first interaction. I made a phone call 10min after literally leaving the shop realizing what I purchased wasn't the problem to getting my electric scooter running (turned out it was a flat tire and tube, many thanks to Express Bike on 1st and Vermont). I explained my situation and asked if I can come in to get some air on my tire when I was told to not come back until tomorrow morning as the shop had stopped service for the day in the most condescending tone of voice. Would have been nice to be a bit more understanding and empathetic about my situation rather than sounding annoyed and tired. Also, the shop was closing about an hour and a half from the call. Sorry for not knowing any of this? I felt flabbergasted about my experience. It's just air that I was requesting, I thought to myself. I went to Express Bike right after and they were able to look into it there, with no complaints. Turned out to be more than just air, as I had a flat tube and bad tire. I dropped off my scooter there for next-day service. Oh, and they too close at 6:30. On top of that, an observation. I noticed a customer that was there left his bike there for service. It was exactly 5pm. There was a slight language barrier between the employee and customer; the employee had to repeat what he had previously disclosed to him in an off-putting tone. The customer didn't notice it, and I just had a thought on how an interaction like that can make a difference to the longevity of a business. Anyway, the point of this review is to shine light on the importance of putting caring and courtesy throughout every interaction, as reviews and recommendations like this make reason for potential customers to inquire. I'm very pleased to know there's a second location in Torrance. Says a lot about the success of this great bike shop. Perhaps this day was just a hiccup and the employees were tired. I get it. Keep the winning culture spinning true, otherwise it could all crash. Be nice. We all have lives outside of work that can make it hard, yet the effort will always outshine. read more

The tire was ready on time, etc. Unfortunately, both when I went in to drop off and when I went in to pick up, there were employees either not wearing masks or not wearing them properly. I would have to give them 3.5 stars. I haven't been there for over 10 years now. They don't appreciate customers and there are many other bike shops to choose from. Between the late 90's and well into the 2000's I would go there routinely and spent close to $1000 total. I bought a folding bike from them plus parts and service over and over. The owner is like an emotionless calculator machine. He doesn't want to extend any courtesy to customers. I had several incidents of bad attitude that turned me off. I walked in there when I was flat proofing my bike tires. I saw a bunch of useless tubes in their trash barrel. These tubes are garbage from tire flats. I just asked if I could have a few inner tubes from their trash to use. The owner was there and he just answered "No." I asked "aren't those tubes just trash?". He said I cannot have them. It is against "policy". He then told me to come back after closing and dig them up from the alley. So I can say to the owner of Safety Cycles: "F" you too. You have lost over ten years of my business because of garbage. Idiot. If I could undo my former sales I would. I would like to give them one star but that is dishonest. Basically the other employees are good. It is just the owner who is an asshole. My suggestion. Go over to the bike shops over near Alvarado St at Wilshire or 7th.
