Receipt and why I had to wait almost 25 minutes when there were only four people in front of me.
    Beth H.

Self checkout is open, which of course you can't use it for buying alcohol Three lanes of 15 items or less open And only one lane for anybody buying more than 15 items and when I mean it slow, I mean it's the worst When it became aparent that the line was not moving and I could see that there were three lines open for 15 items and less, and every register was open for self check out, but they only had one lane open for big grocery shoppers. At 5:30 no less in the evening when the store is slammed. I saw a customer relations so I went and spoke to a brunette woman. She was pretty frustrated. Said that it wasn't her job. She didn't manage the front end. She didn't know which manager was on duty and that was it. A few minutes later when I got to start putting my things on the belt, who do you think showed up in my line the same woman. She clearly didn't realize she was in the only line for big shoppers and was complaining about the fact that she'd been approached by multiple shoppers who were upset that there weren't more lanes open. I pointed this out to her that I was the one that had complained or at least one of the people that had complained, and she relented and told me that the manager was Mario. She told Mario how many people had complained and he just cackled like a hyena then he did a high five or fist bump with the security guy and he was more concerned about joking and being Mr. congeniality with the other Brose working with him then doing anything about the people waiting in line He straight up, laughed at me when I suggested he do his job Very rarely do I come into a Safeway where I see so much dysfunction having worked in a Safeway for many years in the Bay Area I'm guessing this is a management situation because somebody needs to be monitoring the inmates in the evening because things are wild over here, I'm going to be calling the store manager in corporate tomorrow which I really never do but this is kind of ridiculous After such a great shopping day, this was a real downer. I needed to get a lot of the staples for Thanksgiving as we're hosting. Had I not needed this stuff there's no way I would've waited in this line.

    Safeway coupon shopping

Probably the most irritating shopping experience you could ever ask for. Coupons and bargains there for people who have time to study the weekly offers - for me my time is valuable - and to spend one or two hours to save maybe $10 or $20 on a shopping trip and time spent on 'clipping' online coupons isn't worth it. I think some people are very narrow minded. They only see with a field of vision like horses in blinders. I'm a big picture guy with enough responsibility and a tight schedule and the mind games on the Safeway app simply aren't worth it. Furthermore, I believe the online app discriminates against seniors and those without the means for smart phones and internet access. I was in line the other day here - and there was this 80 or 90 year old man complaining that he didnt' have a smart phone but wanted the online only deal for this or that - maybe cereal. This is the last person I would ever want to normally get stuck behind in line but this time I was so involved with the story of it all that I wanted to see how it played out. If your a stay at home mom and can clip coupons instead of giving your kids attention and don't mind that this place might work out for you. Think about that last sentence for a second - and then ponder if maybe your priorities are right.... The reality is as we get older and out of school age years our time becomes more valuable. Hey, even if your a senior - I still think your time is valuable. I think everybody's time is valuable - and I don't care who you are. I've consistently found that Walmart and Trader Joes and Costco with their 'every day low prices' is a better option for most people. If you like to engage in mind games come to Safeway and download their app and get constant notifications on your phone that steal your peace and attention. Come in and that what you seek will be out of stock. Realize the cost to drive a mile is .55/mile and then add that into your calculation of savings. It just isn't there - even if you stack coupons - go ahead - save time and spend an hour with a loved one on the phone. You can support this establishment if you like but I feel more comfortable shopping at places that don't discriminate against the elderly or those that can't afford or use smart phones. To each their own.

So much more to write about that will come later. Today while shopping my partner was asked if she had $5 by a couple of randos. Yes, in the store. I noticed them before the incident eyeballing her purse and was ready to mess them up big time if they tried for it. Ususally you need to watch yourself on the street and parking lots and now actually in the stores shopping.

My review has to do with the delivery shoppers, and the refund process. In the past 9 months I've received 3 refunds (I can't see back further than that). Each request was legitimate - (two refunds for spoiled vegetables, and one refund for the wrong item). Last week I ordered some fresh snap peas. I ate some, then discovered a large green caterpillar in the bag. I tried to request a refund. The wouldn't allow me to. I sent a message to Safeway a week ago, explaining the situation. They never wrote back. Sometimes I will get produce which is way past its expiration date (like mushy cucumbers). I don't know how a shopper doesn't notice that. A number of times produce has been significantly underweight. I have not asked for a refund on that, but it is annoying. I have mixed feelings, because the delivery is so convenient. Mainly, I'm unhappy that no one ever contacted me back

The flower selection was a little slim tonight, but my Safeway always still gets five stars. I came kindda of late.

My review is for the excellent customer service I received while getting my Covid shot and flu shot at the pharmacy. I was greeted by a very sweet young lady named Isis who answered my questions and was was so polite and professional. She told what to expect, how long the wait was going to be (10 min to draw up shot, print our forms and enter our information) and showed us how to get to the waiting room. I was met by new pharmacist Quinn who explained very throughly the shots I would be getting. He then injected the shots painlessly. When done, I was then instructed to go out and get a coupon for 10% off for each vaccine. Who doesn't want money off groceries. All in all a very nice experience with 2 caring employees.

The Safeway foods are fresher than San Francisco most of the time, especially in Alameda. The produce, vegetables are never beaten. Yet, I have been sampling DONUTS as of late and donuts at Geneva, 4th Streets 4 and /or 16th streets in San Francisco don't come close. Sadd The service in San Francisco is superior; which I guess is why favorite stores in Safeway are having the PEST problems and minimize isles and closing stores. There is no competition of the ambiance. It's like Apples and oranges.

Multigrain croissants! Four for $5.99 Tasted better than expected. Hope they continue to offer this bakery item.
    Vi T.

Safeway store is clean and organized, similar to other locations within the grocery chain. I usually stop by for their fried chicken at the hot foods counter and various types of breads/pastries/donuts they make from their bakery. Today, I was happy to discover multigrain croissants! Tried one and it was better than expected - still had the nice buttery croissant flavor and decent flakiness to it, despite being more dense due to the multigrain flour and seeds it is made out of. I hope this becomes a regular item they bake. What I most appreciate about Safeway is that most locations like this one, are a designated spot where you can bring your plastic film recycling (clean cling wrap, plastic wrap, plastic packaging) to drop off. The bin is located next to their regular recycling, compost, and trash bins by the entrance .

Beautiful bouquet of Valentine's Day flowers from my sweetheart from Safeway.
    Andrea M.

Prices are high, especially compared to TJ's next door; the trend of grocery prices creeping higher and higher is concerning, to say the least. Also, they need to put in more checkers. They are trying to normalize having ~2 human checkers (when there are like 12 checkout aisles available), at the expense of the customer's time. Not ok. Support TJ's or other shops, where sane prices and service are still a thing.

Quick and easy to grab some sushi from the deli - No waiting and on my way in a few minutes. The sushi wasn't bad either. 2 rolls for $8.

Also I noticed during my brief shopping visits that other patrons at that moment were from different cultures, speaking different languages, and from different ethnic backgrounds. Truly a diverse and multicultural environment. Finally to Abigail C.: Maybe you should take your rowdy, sugar hopped-up kids to the park to play or spend more time teaching them good manners. The pistachio cream cake and ricotta and pistachio cake sound good too, so many desserts. They also have Mitchell's ice cream. Although there is a sound effect that goes off when you step in the door so the owner or staff must've known when I came in, and they also looked up when a few other people went in and out of the store, I was standing at the counter for about 5 mins before they realized I was waiting to order, so that was awkward. I realized the register is set up for grocery store and not like a restaurant so there wasn't a way to enter a tip for the drink order when paying with credit card; they only have a jar for cash tips. It says minimum $5 for credit or debit or they will charge you $0.50. The owner/employee is pretty no nonsense in demeanor. I ordered a $5 hot mocha for 16 oz. The prices are pretty good for hot drinks. For some reason, for iced drinks, which have a smaller selection, the price jumps up significantly between the 12oz and 16oz size. You can get up to 20oz size for the hot drinks. The coffee itself was pretty good, though, and I liked the amount of chocolate in it. Not bad for drinks, you just might have to try to speak up to get the owner's attention if they are busy washing dishes or not looking your way / not at the register.

Kenny mentioned that to Sam, who firmly said, "no, I'm not raising prices." Our hero. He also stocks things for neighborhood locals if they even mention wanting them.
