Update: AGAIN it happened. I bought sausage and got it home. Cooked it and had a couple bites that tasted funny. Looked at the package and the expiration date said 5/15...I bought it on 6/7... needless to say I was sick the next day. I took it back and told them...they didn't even flinch. "How many did you. buy?" is all they said. I am so grossed out but this store. I will never be back. Lidl is up the street and I will drive to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods too. read more

The lady Shayne is a very poor customer service associate or leader. She belittles her the associates and does not like older white customers. She hovers over and thinks we are stealing. Safeway why do you have such an abusive, nasty, and rude associate in your store. We will drive 25 miles to avoid this store a 1/4 of a mile from our location. read more

2 stars because it's convenient and walkable. But am so tired of expired food. Not only do I have to check the expiration date on everything I buy there, I throw out half the produce I get because it goes bad immediately. It's like they are the end of the supply line or something. I never write reviews but the pre wrapped meat from the deli I bought yesterday was rancid when I opened it today and it pushed me over the edge. It's not exactly cheap food to be throwing out all the time either. Please get someone in there that cares about their quality. Safeway at Harford Road, Baltimore. I have been shopping at this Safeway since it opened over 25 years ago. Today was the first time I had a very unpleasant experience with one of your employees, Thelma. I always use the self-checkout option since there is usually only a single checkout lane staffed with an actual person. There is a sign at the head of the self-checkout lane that says, "15 Items Or Less". Despite the fact that I had 18 items, I chose the self-checkout because there was only one other person using the machines at the time, leaving as many as 8 open machine for other customers. At the end of checking out and bagging, Thelma stopped me from exiting and said, "You know, you had more than 15 items." I replied, "Yes, I know, but there isn't a line and there are plenty of open machines." She then said, "That makes no difference. You need to read the sign and follow the rules. Next time, follow the rules." This was said in a very loud voice so that any person within 10 yards of her could hear her rather harsh reprimand. I understand the 15 or less rule, but I assumed it was to prevent long waits and lines. Since I was not causing anyone any harm, any wait, or any other sort of inconvenience, I do not understand why Thelma singled me out. Perhaps you can explain to your employees why the rules exist-- to prevent long lines, etc.-- and not to allow customers to be reprimanded in public. Thelma is not an asset to your company. read more

This store is like a box of chocolates. Some staff are delightfully accommodating and polite, and some staff are downright nasty, with a rude attitude and should be fired. Even the pharmacy has some rude people. Sometimes the produce is lovely and the selection has everything, other times it's half rotten, missing what is on my list, and I have to go to another store. Many of the sale prices marked on the shelves haven't been updated on the system, so I have to check every item on my sales receipt, and usually there is at least one item for which I was overcharged, that results in another 10 minutes at the customer counter. But it is close to where I live, and our neighborhood worked hard to get this store. You just never know what you're gonna get. read more

Love this SafeWay! Off Hardford Rd. Walking distance between neighborhoods. Workers are approachable. Local shoppers are welcoming. Zero complaints! On one shopping day I forgot my money and a local shopper paid gor my grocery bill. read more

There are usually no more than two lines open at a time. There is no exception made during peak/holiday hours. Lines usually wrap around or expand into the aisles, so be prepared to wait. Security at this location is also strange. Perhaps they experience a great deal of theft, so they're watching your every move. read more

I usually can find some of the organic, gluten free, vegan items I find at the other store. However, sometimes the produce is not fresh, the check-out lines are long and slow because they do not open enough lines, and the bathroom is absolutely disgusting. Some of the staff is rude and will actually get into verbal debates with customers. They don't seem to understand that customer service means actually providing a service to the customer, not being bothered by them. Once, the cashier needed a price check for one of my items. Three different employees refused to find the item in the store before she found someone to look for her. This annoyed the very long line of people waiting behind me. They earned their stars for being conveniently located and the offering of frozen, gluten free, vegan mac and cheese. read more

This Safeway sucks 75% of the time. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised by their selection and sometimes I'm like WTF. On multiple occasions I have got home and realized things are past date. Okay, yogurt I should have checked but mac and cheese? That has GOT to be sitting on the shelf for a long ass time before it goes past date. I just saw turkey hot dogs on the shelf on 1/15, with a 12/17 sell by date. GROSS! I have contacted corporate about these issues and was kind of just shrugged off. When this happened at Giant I was mailed a gift card. Just saying. Safeway is more expensive than other chain grocery stores in general, so it sucks that you're going to a more-expensive grocery store that is just... worse. Like, why are pop tarts more money here than at Target? This isn't the worst grocery store ever or anything. It gets the job done when you're in need of the weekly regular stuff. Workers are pleasant enough. But it's not a good grocery store, either. read more

I don't think this store deserves the 1 star reviews it has. We're at an urban grocery store and certain problems (i.e. trash or weirdos) plague any grocery store in the city. The lines do get long but I've found that it's better than the grocery store lines in Montgomery County where I moved from. So far, in my limited experience at this store, the produce is decent, the selection is good (good for getting things I can't find at Aldi), and I love their homemade tortilla chips over by the hot food bar. Only con which deducts 1 star is that I ALWAYS have to verify expiration dates on things. I was looking at the small milk cartons and all of the white milk cartons were out of date by several MONTHS. This isn't just inconvenient, it's a hazard, and I hope Safeway takes note of this. Otherwise, pleasant typical grocery store shopping experience and where I come when I need a bag of ice, my Rx, or anything I can't get at Aldi (or when I need my homemade chips and guac pick-up) PS - The pharmacy staff is very nice and I would recommend the pharmacy at this store as well. read more

Who does this? Another update! Well I just love this place. I drive completely across town to continue going to this grocery store. I live 2 seconds from Giant and pass another one on the way just to go to Safeway. And its worth it most times. Sales are awesome. The online coupon system is great. They stay stocked and clean. I was a bit upset when apparently the manager sent one of the great guys to another store way out somewhere. He was a sweet person who had been at this location for ump-teen years. We were sad to see him leave...awesome hard worker. All the young lady cashiers are great. And you know who else is great here....the customers/community. We are supportive, jolly even when lines are crazy on fridays, family friendly. Great place overall. Shop here for pretty much everything except: diapers, and other bulk items. Take your behind to Sam's to meet the household items need. :) read more

Had an extremely poor customer service experience tonight with MARK who works in customer service. My husband went to return items and MARK did the entire transaction incorrectly. He didn't refund the items properly, which is evident by the receipt. AND instead of refunding my money, he actually took more money out of my account!! Had to make a second trip to the store after discovering the error. I understand making a mistake. This did not bother me. But what did bother me, was the fact that MARK neither apologized nor showed any concern for HIS error, which has costed me now over $60! He simply said, "You'll have to come back tomorrow," and then just strolled away onto the next customer. He was extremely dismissive. MARK is not fit for this position. This position requires someone with a better attitude. And Safeway still owes me money. But I don't blame Safeway. I blame MARK!! I will update you on what happens when I speak to the other manager tomorrow morning. Update: ANDREA in customer service helped me sort this mess out. She was very courteous and apologized for my experience. This is how you treat a customer! She was very thoughtful and helpful. THANK YOU ANDREA! You deserve a promotion! read more

WORST. SAFEWAY. EVER. All front end management should be terminated and replaced with competent people who actually care about customers. Most cashiers are rude as hell, slow and have absolutely no desire to be there. There is a total lack of care. Cashiers: It is so incredibly disrespectful to talk poorly about customers In front of them, and across the lanes to fellow cashiers. It's tacky and hateful and you're totally doing it on purpose so that customers hear how much you clearly hate your job. Please stop and grow up. And PLEASE OPEN MORE THAN ONE LANE ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON. If management weren't so lazy, they could help pitch in to open other lanes in order to get customers out smoothly but instead they just want to insult and argue with them. Understaffed and Overworked employees, who apparently lack sufficient training. I buy items marked 50% off, but when checking my receipt, find I paid full price. I ordered one type of deli meat, but was given another, with a label saying it was Amish Potato Salad. Won free items from in-store "Monopoly" game that I would not have purchased otherwise, but got home to see I had been charged for them, although the coupon was collected. Really great staff in the morning stocking shelves are offset by an overly chatty cashier being the only one on duty when people just need to get through the line and go to work. read more

The cashiers are zombies with no personality. The parking lot is always ridden with trash and the employees smoking outside don't seem to care. I avoid buying seafood at Safeway, it always looks low quality. The produce is a safe bet and the bakery has pretty good. Prices are not competive. If asked, I would not recommend this store. read more

Never enough lines open. Which means the owner is stingy. Overpriced. Glad to have a grocery in our neighborhood, but wish it was a better experience. Pan handlers outside most of the time. I love Harvest Fare - This Safeway should take a cue from them!! read more

Everything here is slow, from the cafe to check out. They says if your sandwich takes longer than 3 min, it's free. But this is a joke! It took me 30 min to get 2 sandwiches. They also don't have all ingredients, so they just don't put it in for you. read more
