I would never write a review unless I gave a place every opportunity to improve their customer service but with Safeway in Burlingame it's no use.
I'm appalled at the customer service. Today I had a hand full of groceries to purchase. Saw two employees chit-chatting and asked if their register stand was open? With the look and sarcasm, you would think, I barged in on their private party.
I laid my basket down on the left side of the counter and you would think I committed a federal crime. Instead of stating that the left side of counter was closed, this big fat woman named Regina says, "Does it look like I'm standing there?" She caught me off guard and then realized she wanted me to move to the other side of the counter. At first, I thought she was just kidding around but come to find out she was just a sarcastic lazy B----.
I didn't comment and just laid out my groceries.... I've come to a point of my life, where it's best to keep your mouth shut and just move on but what happen next was probably the most shocking thing I've witness from any retailer.
As the last few items were being rung into the register, 3 items didn't make it onto the automatic counter. I look up to see what's keeping her and she is just pointing. Baffled, I asked what's the problem and what Regina said next, made my mouth drop!
"Honey, I can't seem to stretch that far..." exaggerating her arm. (well, if you every shop at the Safeway in Burlingame you would know their counter is only 2 feet long and anyone can reach without any effort).
What was appalling, was if I didn't nudge the items within hands reach we would be at a standstill. I was so shocked and speech-less that I timidly moved the grocery items towards her as if I was a child scolded.
She threw the items in a single plastic bag and was scared to ask her for a double bag even though I was walking. She completed the transaction and went back to her conversation.
Is this what the new customer service looks like? Can anyone retain a job with this attitude? Is this the new generation? The funny part is that I wanted to call the store manager to let them know what a lazy, fat b----
they have on staff but their isn't any customer service to find at the Burlingame Safeway (which may explain why this useless life actually has a job).
I called the store to ask for a manager and the answering machine says "Thank you for calling your FRIENDLY burlingame Safeway" (HA, HA!! - HELLO???? Have you shopped there?
I called 6 different times. Four of the times there was no one at the customer service desk so I called the meat department to get the name of a manager and the guy said he didn't know who the manager was? (is this possible???) So then I called the floral department and the lady barely spoke English hesitated for awhile and then blurted a name I believe sounded like "Jimmy". Jimmy, I repeated, what's his last name, I asked? She had no clue. Isn't this scary....I mean what employee doesn't know the manager's name?
How does this store stay in business? There is no need to go there for groceries; there are plenty of other places that have employees that care about their jobs and service their customers...and to think they want to expand this location and remodel it!!! What the hell for...if they can't take care of their small store why pour more $$ into the joint. read more
