The fireplace in our home needed a cleaning. Since we just moved in a little over a year ago we hadn't used it the first winter so we figured we get it done before the season started. Needless to say it had bever been cleaned and needed it terribly. In doing so found out there are numerous things that need to be repaired on it that we can not afford to repair at the moment. So we will go this winter unable to use it per code. I will say that the technician that came out was very knowledgeable and did a great job cleaning it. Great reviews and did service in my area. Dan came out and was very nice. Being a new fireplace owner, he taught me how to work it and had me do it myself to make sure I was doing it correctly. I asked about additional products and he was very knowledgeable. He and his assistant came in with booties and gave me recommendations - no hard sell. I would definitely use Safeway again. Their price for my chimney cleaning was to my liking because I had called other places that cost more and didn't seem like they were certified chimney sweepers. It took a while to get an appointment because everyone is getting their chimney cleaned this time of year. Sean arrived very close to the start of my appointment window and got right to work. They were a 2 man staff and were both very polite. They covered their feet with slippers when they entered my house and covered their work area. I appreciated that. Sean explained the process to me because I had no idea how chimney sweeping worked. The job took about 20 minutes and my chimney was cleaned! I heard about other companies trying to upsell people, but there was none of that with Sean. I saw on my invoice (and Sean confirmed) that they do dryer vent cleaning so I will definitely give Safeway a call for my dryer vent cleaning that I need. They'll also be my go to for future chimney work. read more

Stay Away!!!!!! After "fixing" my fireplace they decided to put old parts back in. Smoke damage to my entire home. They came out admitted fault and were to replace the old faulty parts and pay for the clean up. After a no show to replace the faulty parts, a call to their office got them to my home 4 hours later where they claimed it was not their fault. After I stated I had the admittance of fault recorded and texts stating that they would pay for clean up, I was told I could see them in court, by the owner of all people. Watch out for the upsell. After spending a couple hundred on chimney cleaning, they told me my fireplace was unsafe and tried to push an expensive wood burning fireplace install. I had it looked at by someone else and they told me my fireplace was fine and not unsafe to use. Beware. read more

2 stars because everyone I talked to was very nice. Maybe they're good if you just need somebody to run a brush up your chimney, but... I hired them for $150 to get an estimate for repair, and never got the estimate. I called back, they sent somebody else, and again they never sent an estimate. It's been about 2 months. I've received literally nothing for my money (or time and inconvenience) When I first called I told them smoke was leaking into the attic from the chimney, and they charged $150 to inspect it. I've since learned from 2 separate experts that this problem can NEVER be repaired. It must always be replaced. Surely Safeway knew this before coming out? They had no problem charging me to assess a repair on something they knew couldn't be fixed? Now they're supposed to give an estimate on a replacement but I haven't yet received it (after PAYING for it). Fireplace stores have given us this for free. The ballpark gut estimate (for a complete replacement) the second guy gave was nearly twice what fireplace stores have quoted us. So even if they did get around to quoting the job, I'm guessing they'll price themselves out of it. read more

I cannot compliment Safeway enough. We had a very complex problem. We had a number of professionals out to assess what could be done about a cracked flue in a very tall chimney. Sean was the one that originally found the problem during a routine cleaning and we are happy that we used his company for the removal and replacement of the flue. Sean was very patient with us as we went back and forth as to whether we should have some additional work done. He was never pushy and he considered each scenario along with us. Dan, Sean, Kyle and Tyler were very friendly and professional. I was also impressed by how well they interacted with each other. The job had an element of danger to it and they were very conscious of each other and their needs. They spoke to each other with great respect, which is not always true in the trades. There was no posturing or jockeying for position. The job was actually more complex then originally thought. Sean was kind enough to stick to his original quoted price, for which we are grateful. They left my house neat and clean both inside and out. You would never know that just hours before I had had pieces of an entire clay flue inside the firebox. I would definitely recommend Safeway. When they came to fix the many issues, the work was done quickly and in a VERY knowledgeable way. I met with Jeremy to discuss the work on my Chimney and decided to move ahead with the project, which was expensive and required a substantial down payment (in excess of $4,000). I was told nothing would be moving forward for 3 months since we are in the middle of winter. I became uncomfortable that the quote included work that did not need to be done and got another quote. The other company agreed that Jeremy's quote contained expensive excessive work that didn't need to be done. I contacted Safeway roughly a week after the initial quote to cancel. After multiple calls I was informed that there was a restocking fee of 10% on items ordered, which was never disclosed to me or reviewed at the time of sale. Office Manager said it was their standard practice, and I let them know that policies need to be disclosed to customers and reviewed by salespeople. VERY DISAPPOINTED and unprofessional. I resolved this using the chargeback process for my credit card. read more

Had major chimney repairs done last year w/out issue. Rescheduled to have my chimney cleaned this year. Was called day prior to confirm my appointment which I did. On the day of appointment no one showed up. I waited two hours after the scheduled time before calling to check in. When I called they looked up my appointment telling me it was rescheduled for January because I called and told them I had tested positive for covid, this never happened. When I told them I never made this call or tested positive for covid. I was simply told "they had no way to verify that" no apology or concern for their mistake was made. Overall the tone was too bad for me and it wasn't their problem. read more

I called Safeway for a second opinion. Another company told me my damper could not be fixed. Jeremy from Safeway quickly diagnosed the problem. The damper just had a little surface rust on it so he cleaned it, oiled it and even installed a wire loop so it would be easier to open and close. We were in need of a new screen for our fireplace and made a stop at a Fireplace store in Frankfort. Talk about an upsell. They told us to definitely not use our fireplace as we were a fire waiting to happen. In minutes they tried to talk us into a very expensive gas burning fireplace install. Left there a bit shaken, not knowing what to do, and upon arriving home remembered that we had used Safeway Chimney Sweeps & Duct Cleaning 2 years ago, so decided to call them again for a cleaning and inspection . Today, cleaning and inspection done & done with incredible professionalism, expertise, complete explanations about everything and all of my questions, plus Kyle could not have been sweeter. The original service was fine. And the office staff is cordial and polite. But when information wasn't communicated correctly, and we called to have it looked at again; I got a call from the owner accusing me of lying about the work not being done and not being there when it was so 'how could I know'. (I was present when they did the work...I actually opened the door to them!) he continued to condesend me that he told my husband all the information as if I couldn't possibly understand. Let me also explain that this 'resolution' happened 4 weeks and 5 calls after the original service. We left messages from my cell phone, my husbands, and his job since our numbers are out of town numbers. I have never felt so be-littled and disrespected...and it was by the owner!!!! Jeremy helped me understand how important the cleaning of the dryer vent was and he did a great job of making sure that we are safe. He was courteous and went out of his way to make sure that the job was completely done - even though the vent was partially blocked by my deck. Will call every year for the service. I also waited too long this year to schedule, so I was 6 weeks out for an appointment. But they put me on a waiting list and I was able to get in much sooner than I thought. $100 charge and they didn't do anything to fix my gas fireplace. Wanted to charge $350 for a part and installation, claiming it was rare and hard for them to order. I found the part needed that day for $70. Installed myself. I will never use them again or recommend them. read more
