Was in Safeway to buy dinner for the evening. After I was done and waited on line. I put my basket on the check out counter, the cashier asked me to take everything out of the basket, just a note, this is what I always do. So I asked the cashier why? And with a very bad attitude she said because it's curtesy. I didn't say anything, and then she proceeded to leave the register got somebody to check me out, I thought that was weird, but I didn't think anything of it until I saw her return to check out the WHITE woman next in line, just another note the guy before me was also white. So I proceeded to speak to a manager and very nicely I might add. The manager said she would speak to her. All I got to say is that if you are going to this location and you are a minority, please stay away from the racist woman in the synthetic blonde wig be careful. read more

I like Safeway..if you have their app..it is amazing. Today I got large packs of pork chop steaks for .88 cents a pound. I got 3 pounds of thick bacon for 7.99. They give you special coupons and savings for having the app. Today my total was 67.14...I paid only 31.96. I saved more than I spent with all the coupons...woohoo. Last month I bought 60 dollars in groceries and bought only the save u more sale items...I only paid 28.00. Regular items are very expensive...but you can get amazing deals...Thank you Lord... I went shopping at this Safeway for the first time. I very rarely encounter people who are not masked at other stores. There were MANY at this store. Why is this store such an outlier? Guidelines from the state gives stores three options: 1) ask unmasked people if they have been vaccinated (the store may accept their word; 2) require a vaccination certificate; 3) require customers to mask. Everytime I come to the floral department I have an issue that really shouldn't be an issue. LISA was extremely rude she took care of another customer before me and I was there first then as soon as I get to her before saying hi is there anything she can help me with she immediately turns her face up to tell me she can't ring up gift cards. I'm there for balloons but she has no idea because she couldn't wait to find a reason not to help me. Then she commits to arguing with her about my experience. EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL. At the Madison & Dewey Safeway the employees are extremely helpful! There is a man in the deli during the day and I don't remember his name... He should be hired as a manager! He has EXCELLENT MANAGERIAL SKILLS... His customer service is beyond Excellent! You also have a woman in the late evening... Her name escapes me at this moment, but, I do believe she is a supervisor or manager... If not... She too should be! Excellent, excellent, excellent customer service skills! Very nice young lady! The bakery I came in for some celebratory cupcakes - something cute and tasty. We looked behind the glass as the options. One appeared to have a light brown mousse and chocolate striped wafers..mocha? That could be lovely. So I asked the woman behind the counter about the flavors. Everything I pointed to that was 'brown' she replied was "chocolate with chocolate buttercream frosting". The mocha cupcake? "CHOCOLATE......with chocolate buttercream frosting". Ok! Condescending and short. We made our purchases there. The cupcakes were drier than we had hoped and so sugary I felt ill after half of one. We purchased four and amongst three of us trying slices of each one, we only consumed two. They look better than they actually taste. I will not be tempted to purchase these again. read more

Everyone in the pharmacy is friendly and caring. The bakery is great as well. Been coming here for years and I have no complaints.

This store does nothing to enforce mask wearing. I asked the manager and was told the call has to come down from corporate before they can. I have always liked this store. Corporate evidentally doesn't care about it's customer or employee safety. I will never shop there again. Trader Joe's and Costco monitor people entering the store and do not allow them in without a mask. Wearing a mask is the only way the we can fight the spread of Covid 19! read more

Lady literally threw my groceries in the bag and was so rude. Only reason I didn't do self checkout was because I had a bottle of wine. She didn't even greet me when I walked up to get rung up. It's a typical Safeway. It was clean and had everything you need. They do have a gas station outside that makes it convenient if you like quality gasoline with a good price. I mostly enjoy the savings I got when purchasing this Strawberry, whipped cream vanilla sponge cake for $4.99 today. Originally it was $9.99 but they too $5.00 off when you use your Safeway Rewards Card. YEP GOOD DEAL! LOVE IT! Had to get the Strawberry cake for a quick last minute pot luck. Delicious! Safeway always has great deals....no gripes about savings and a good dessert. read more

To start off I love this Safeway and all the workers. But the management is trash. I always question if they have a union or not because the management is lawless and oversteps with the workers constantly. Under paid and under appreciated. Tammy is especially awful with her employees with multiple employees complaining to me about her and how she treats others I would hate to work for a person like her. I hope that corporate sees this because I would like to make a formal complaint about this place. My sister got my nieces First Birthday cake at the Safeway Dewey location. It was a PRINCESS cake really cute in the book when she ordered it and she got a FREE smash cake with her cake order which we thought was great! We picked up the cake the day of the party and placed it on cake table with the smash cake next to it. Well later on I noticed what looked like the cake was separating in the back on the right corner and looked like it was drooping. I told my sister. When she went to cut the cake it fell apart!! She paid over $52.00 for this PRINCESS cake! It shouldn't fall apart when cut. We were VERY, VERY disappointed in the quality of this cake. We will not return to this location for any more cakes. I just showed up 10 minutes before close to grab one item real quick omw home and they had the doors locked. Really?! I get you want to go home, and I'd understand a few minutes before close locking it maybe.....but 10 mins is way too early. I could have gotten in and out no problem. Usually shop here with no issues. But it's been fairly bad recently. First non major thing, the courtesy clerk asked if I'd like help out, I spent $250, so there was alot. When I said yes, his smile melted off his face. It actually amused me, but it's not ok. It's your job, smile and pretend you like it. The major incident - grabbed a few items, got in the express line. The store was very busy. I'm the third person in line. I then notice that the person getting checked out has at least 50 items, then splits it into two orders, then gets out her WIC checks! I was in that line for at least 20 minutes while the checker helped this ONE RUDE PERSON who violated the express line and then used WIC on top of it. And seriously, the checker let her! By the time I just ditched my items, yep, left them on the belt, it has been seriously 20 minutes.... In the express lane. The girl in front of me was about to have an anxiety attack, there were at least 10 people in EVERY line at this point. The line behind me went half way down the whole aisle. No more checkers were called. Do I feel bad for leaving all my stuff right there? No. Not a bit. I can't believe they won't offend one person and tell her to go in the correct line, but they'll go ahead and just upset the 10 people behind her. Going back there? Not likely. Walmart has pull up service now, so no going in at all and it's cheaper. read more

They have a great inventory and it's never too crowded and their deli and bakery area is always well stocked! They have yummy fresh pot pies currently and have good rotating freshly made selections like that. Took away one star because when they do get a little busy they NEVER have enough lanes open. Safeway rules. And now that I am big into couponing (in conjuction with the Safeway card and the iPhone app) I have been saving way wayyyyyyy wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more. This specific location (down the street from my high school - go COUGARS!!!!) has very friendly staff and I bet they see my Mom and I strolling the aisles thinking, holy crap that girl doesn't have a life, look at her kickin it with her Mom all the time. Oh, and Liz ... if you read the small print on those BOGO deals you speak of ... you don't have to buy two of anything. Buy one, use a coupon and SAVE more than Winco. The Safeway is like any other. Safeway offers discounted food and drug with its Club Card and Just 4 U online coupon specials. This location is located in a residential neighborhood. Service used to be great at this store. Over the last two years, it was great and has only gotten worse. I have provided feedback regarding the discourteous staff and unhelpful employees in the various departments. It is unsettling that management here does not take pride to provide Safeway quality to its customers. They are rude and unhelpful. I will have to travel to other Safeway to make sure I get Safeway quality of employees and products. I will not be returning for the service. I will only go if I don't care about the employees level of care to its customers. read more

I had shopped here regularly for years. However, lately the checkout lines have become longer and longer with fewer and fewer cashiers. This afternoon I attempted to utilize the self check out as I was only purchasing a birthday card and gift card. Apparently gift cards cannot be purchased via the self check out. The cashier monitoring the lane gave me total attitude about my ignorance, pointing out that written on the scale is a message reflecting that gift cards cannot purchased there. Well guess what Safeway. You will not get anymore of my business. I'll happily drive ten minutes to Bel Air where they are more expensive but at least they are not rude! read more

Ummm... Yeah, it's a Safeway. Being out in the burbs, this one is typically vagrant free. They have self check out, and I dig the cheese bread from the bakery. This is one of the nicest safeways I've been to. The deli department is great, with lots of different selections for on the go bites. A bit confusing when it comes to searching for organic, non-dairy, vegan items because it's all mixed in with everything else. There is a Starbucks inside and a seating area is provided for customers who want to sit down to rest or enjoy their coffee. I hate Safeway. And today reminded me of why I no longer shop at Safeway. I needed a sandwich and because if geography, I ended up going to the deli in Safeway. They put almost no meat on it. The tiny amount of pre-measured meat was very poor quality. The bread was extra thick. I may as well have gone to Subway! :( There were these two very slow, old ladies making the sandwiches. They inspired me to think of a band name: Glacial Lightning. She also forgot to put the only veggie I asked for, onto my sandwich. She had a snotty attitude. Her name on the receipt is Donna. Slow cranky Donna. So, I am back to avoiding Safeway like the plague. It is an inconvenience store. Absurd prices. Low quality. Lowsy service. They look nice inside, but that is where it ends. We have moved our meat buying from Raley's to Safeway. Their meat here is excellent. The steak is always tender, not too grisly and well priced. Chicken is normal and they carry a fair selection of seafood. They don't carry a good selection of roast, but I am real picky about roast, so that's a personal thing. Produce varies, really good fruit. I like that they have local produce, I prefer to buy local whenever possible. Not a fan of the bakery. We go to Raley's or make our own. The bread is always way done. Above par wine selection at good prices. I really dig the Little Roo shiraz they carry, good wine @ $4! The staff is nice, friendly and the store is super clean and organized. I like that they have the gas station there too, although it's always packed, but worth the wait for my 10 cents off! read more

I had the worst encounter this morning at your store with a female checker 6/17/19 around 10:30 am. I just got back from the doctors & got my prescription filled with no problems . Just excellent service. Then I went to check out the items I was buying. First off, there was only one lane open. Second, the checker knew the person who was checking out. They went on and on and on about his truck, showing pictures of his truck. She finally started to check me out, but continued to talk to him. Still taking to him I asked her if she put the hair clips in my bag. Acting like I was disturbing her she said "what hair clips". I said the ones that were in your hand. She had know idea what I was talking about. The hair clips were on my list of items I bought on the computer . She couldn't find them. Then she acted like " I don't know what happened to them",and stated laughing . I told her I was in severe pain. I was diagnosed with Bell's Palsy this morning. Half of my face was paralyzed & in pain. She could care less. I had to go back and get another set of the hair clips. I got mad and told her she needed to " just do her job" She acted the whole time like it was no big deal. Apologies not worth the time she said it! The young man who helped me get the second set of hair clips, and helped me out with my groceries was a complete gentleman & with compassion. I thanked him for all his kindness & help. This isn't the first time this checker acted rude. Never shopping here again & neither will my friends. That's the end of being treated rudely by a Safeway checker. read more

I have been shopping there at the Dewey Safeway for exactly 1 year. My thoughts are...I love that I can get gasoline there..the store itself is always clean and fully stocked...the Store Director has helped me a few times when I needed help at the Guest Services..friendly and knowledgeable as she should be. The clerks have always been nice and speedy at the register...the only negative I could find is always the crankster types sitting out front of the store outside..the Sheriff should be taking take care of that problem and not necessarily for store staff to be approaching. read more
