I have been to this Safeway dozens of times in the last 20 years, as it is the local one in my area. The store is always well stocked, clean, and staffed with kind, helpful people. All of us have likely been to a Safeway grocery store, so there is no use describing the products they offer. I do like that they have a Starbucks booth in the store, as it allows me to grab a drink if I am waiting for my family to shop. Prices here are pretty much as expected. I do find that the produce seems better quality than almost any other store in the area. The real feature of this Safeway is the kind and helpful staff. I have yet to meet any employee here who wasn't kind and warm to talk to with. Everyone has to shop for groceries. Making it a good experience is really only possible with good employees. For that, Safeway is to be commended. read more

I hope this is the Safeway at Higley and Baseline which is where I went yesterday. I wanted the peanut butter filled UTZ brand pretzel nuggets and I also wanted to take advantage of the $10.99 deal for a case of Pepsi. I was also purchasing several other items. I went in around 4:00 p.m. and there were only 4 young people working the front end of the store. They looked like they were about high school age or just a little bit older. When I went in, I checked down aisles 12 and 13 for the pretzels and found none. I went to self check out to ask the clerk on duty where I could find them and he said try salty snacks on aisle 13. I went down that aisle and did not find a spot where they would be located, however, I found one container sitting ON THE FLOOR in front of the Reese's peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets. I grabbed that one and went to the front to show what I was looking for. I was at the customer service counter this time and was told they didn't have any by another young man when CLEARLY they have them because I had one in my hands. One young man said he thought he knew where they might be and briefly went to "look" for them and came back saying they didn't have any. I asked for help finding the case of Pepsi so I could take advantage of that sale and the clerk at self checkout just kept showing me the 12 pack with 3 extra cans and told me that was the biggest box of Pepsi that they carried. I kept telling him that there are 24 cans in a case and he just kept showing me the other box and calling it a case. I was appalled that a young person nowadays did not know that 24 cans or bottles of whatever is a case. Finally, I gave up and paid for my other items. When I put my cart back, I saw a whole display of the UTZ peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets. I grabbed 3 of them and went to customer service and to self checkout and showed them the pretzels and told them where they were in case anyone else asked for them. I simply got an "Okay"! Then when I was walking to pay (again) at self checkout, there was a display in front of the registers with CASES of Pepsi with an advertised price of $10.99. I got my limit of 2 and proceeded to pay for them. They rang up at $16.99 and I once again had to call over the clerk and pointed to the sign and pointed out that this was a case with 24 cans. He adjusted my price and said nothing else. What has happened to customer service with young people these days? When I walked up to the customer service counter the second time, the 3 boys were just standing around chatting to a young lady that was there working as well. It took them a minute to finish up and acknowledge me. I do not plan to ever return to this Safeway again. Those employees did not know their products, their store, and showed NO customer service skills or even a willingness to help. Very disappointing. read more

YELPies!!! I had the best experience at the Safeway meat counter!! I was looking for rib eye steaks and when there weren't any on the shelf.. I went to the meat counter and Jolene and Justin S. Quickly asked what I needed. Justin went to the back and came back with a whole slab. Of course, Justin asked me what parts I needed.. Tehehehe... I said yes to 3 bone . He happily cut it for me as we exchanged great convo about how specific people are about cuts of meat they request. I quickly realized 3 bone meant more than what I needed.. he saw the confusion on my face and I quickly said I just needed 3 individual rib eye steaks. Justin was so sweet and kind and laughed with me about the obvious look of concern on my face as he handed me a huge selection of meat. Needless to say Justin cut what I needed and Ms. Jolene joked and said.. he will get it right in a minute . I appreciate the customer service, the laughs and the professionalism of Justin S. and Ms. Jolene. I can say... when you go to the butcher.. be specific and know what you're asking for . They are the meat professionals and I take my hat off to them. Safeway was clean and well lit as usual and the atmosphere in the meat department was top notch!! Multiple items I purchased were more than marked, by a significant amount. How does this happen multiple times in the same shopping trip? Definitely do not trust the pricing on the shelves, even if it says the name of the item on them. In addition, I was using self checkout so nobody could even adjust the pricing for me, and there were no bags. The person there to help was occupied checking out someone else so I couldn't even have the mis-priced items removed and I didn't notice one of the other ones until I had gotten home. The wrongly priced items increased this shopping trip cost by nearly $20 more than I intended to spend. Reprimanding a new person she was supposed to be training bagging groceries in front of customers and then saying to the customer loud enough for others to hear..."this is just what I need as my shift is ending", then gave me a hard time when I asked why my online discount coupons weren't reflected in the total. I don't understand the reviews stating only one check out line open. There is a sign claiming a 3 person guarantee. More than 3 people, they open another check out. Maybe this is a direct result of past reviews, but I've seen it in action. That being said, I go to this store because it's right down the road from me. I use the Safeway card, in store specials, flyer coupons, and the 10% senior discount on Wednesday to save a bundle. Last trip I saved 48%. I got fuel points toward a discount at the pump also. This is not where I do most of my shopping, but I do watch the flyers and snatch up the deals here. read more

After going to every local grocery store, I found a great one! Ok, first understand that not all have the same prices, selection or hours. If you want a football field sized store and walk a mile to save a few cents, then go to Walmart. I just don't have the time. I go to the store every day and MUST have what I need and good customer service to get what I need. Tried Fry's, Basha's, etc and found issues with customer service and lack of stock. This Safeway's staff, especially the manager, Joann, makes sure that everyone is happy with all aspects of the store, from quality to a smile! She knows everyone, asks about your day and remembers the little things! She makes you feel like you are a friend! She takes customer service VERY seriously. Everyone has a negative experience from time to time no matter where you go, that is normal for any business. What I like about this store is, I know if something is wrong, it will be taken care of. Just ask, just speak up! You will be surprised at how important it is to this customer service staff to hear your opinion! Is it possible to go to a grocery store and NEVER have an issue? NO! I live in the area, so it's not uncommon I hit up Safeway for early morning/late night grocery runs. As a full time student and worker, those are really the only times I get to waste time shopping at the store. And I mean waste in every sense of the word. Every.single.time. I go to this particular location I remind myself I'll never go back. Yes, I said NEVER, but living down the street and this being the closest grocery store, never really means I won't go back this week. So I find myself returning -- abusee/abuser relationship much? and my experience never changes. Anytime I'm at this location, there is only one checkout aisle open. Yes, I said that - ONE. So I quickly pick up the items I need-- you know, bread, milk, water, maybe a snack or two and then I painfully wait in line for what seems like an eternity - hey once I even watched hair grow on my legs as I waited... jk- but really 20 minutes go by and I finally get to the checkout. Plug in an old phone number for my Safeway card and finalize my painstakingly long order. After writing this review I sure hope I'll smarten up and just go to infinitely better stores (Sprouts or Fresh & Easy) down the road! read more

What a SCAM, Show a ham for 99c. When in Friday afternoon and pick a ham. Showed to butcher and he said wrong ham we have no product like that for that price you could pay $3.99. 2.5 days into a 7 day ad and have no product. I've gotten spoiled meat there on two separate occasions, a few months ago and this weekend. On Sunday I had a pickup order where they sold me gray pork chops that expired that very day (I never would have bought that if shopping in the store), and a steak that turned out to be rancid. I've been shopping here for 16 years - avoiding it when I can. Today was another reminder of why I go out of the way to Walmart or Frys. If there is a more poorly managed grocery store, I've never been there. Today at 3:00 - not many customers. Two checkers (NO BAGGERS!). An elderly woman in front of me with a few things. But she couldn't find something she had a coupon for. No problem said the checker, she'll go get it. And left. I muttered an obscenity that I need to go to confession for, and went to the other line. The woman in front had a large purchase that was wrapping up - but the dumb cashier took forever to count the correct number of Monopoly tickets. Finally got my ONE item rung up and paid. As I was leaving, the manager had taken over the other line - and that same old woman was still there and now she was angry how long this was taken, where did the stupid checker go? I've been waiting 16 years for some real competition at this corner. With all the construction going on, the huge retirement center going in, I pray that some well-run, quality store will open up across the street and force this damned Safeway to either go out of business or start operating like they want customers to come back. I don't like the idea of Walmart and Amazon taking over the retail world, but if companies like Safeway expect customers to want to come back, they have got to do a better job of serving us. Safeway discriminates against the elderly. how so? Many elderly folks can't afford one of these fancy computers to get the wink, wink, electronic ad price. Safeway employees can't or won't help the customer in this matter. It's there very deceptive add pricing that makes me not want to be a Safeway Customer. So I go into the Safeway looking to get a good deal and then I find out at the register; I can't get those prices unless I have added items to their electronic "app". Safeway's app sucks and it takes forever to go through and look at all of the items on sale to get that special price. Mostly I don't shop here anymore because of the deceptive ads. One you need to remember is the soda pop, if it's on sale, you have to spend $25 more to get the sale price on the soda pop. Making Safeway a planned hassle event instead of a just walk in and shop. You have to read though their ad looking for the tiny disclaimers; everyone loves doing this. It's not fun to shop at Safeway because of this. If you shop at Safeway and find that you have items in your cart and you're not getting the special prices; Let them put the entire cart away and leave. Old peoples lives matter. It's hard for old people to see tiny print. Sometimes deceptive print, in which the customer is left to calculate in their minds the value of items in the cart; taking into account sale prices. before getting to the register; making sure to account for the soda pop sale conditions. Totally disgusted and wish there was a way to put zero stars. We ordered a cake with writing and flowers on it when I arrive to get up, the woman in the bakerywas putting frosting onto cinnamon rolls with her hands, at this point she had gloves on. After she ignored me when I walked up to the counter, I decided to walk away and do the rest of my shopping, because I was disgusted. After gathering the rest of my items I went up to the counter again, this time she did not have gloves on and she was putting Kaiser rolls into sixpacks. She continue to ignore me so I looked at her name Tag and called her by name, "Jamie can I pick up my cake?" She rudely put down what she was doing took my cake form and went in the back to get the cake that did not have the proper topping on it, when I mention the flowers were wrong she said "well I don't know I didn't take the order" Gee thanks for fixing it. But I really didn't want her touching my cake after everything I had seen so far. I go to check out she informs me that the person doing bagging will help me to my car. So a young man named Zach does, he proceeds to put a bag of bread on top of the cake box ruining the top of the cake not that it wasn't already fucked up. $35 wasted and I'm totally disgusted and never want to buy anything from this bakery again. read more
